Chapter 15: The Swedish Job

"If everybody had an ocean
Across the U.S.A
Then everybody'd be surfin'
Like Californi-a"

1963

Esme hummed as she walked down the street with a smile on her face, waving to a few people that greeted her. Her yellow and white checkered dress complimenting her well along with a large yellow bracelet on her left wrist. Her brunette hair was long and she had it up higher in the back as the rest flowed down in the front.

"Nice lawn Stewart." Esme called out to her neighbor across the street as he looked up to her.

"What?" The older man questioned, not quiet hearing her.

"Your lawn looks nice."  She said a bit louder, her smile still on her face.

"I have a nice bum?"  He questioned again which made Esme let out a giggle before shaking her head slightly as she walked up to her front door and opened it.

"Thomas, I'm home."  She called out, shutting the door then taking her heels off, one by one as the music from the radio in the kitchen played.

Esme entered the kitchen and saw the back of Thomas as he was sitting on a chair, cleaning his sword.

"Thomas put that down." She rolled her eyes, smiling a bit as she walked up to the sink and began to wash her hands.

A smile tugged on his lips as he looked up at her. "What do you have against me and my sword?" He questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"I swear you spend more time with that sword then you do with me." She joked, turning to him slightly.

"Not true. We played cards last night." He pointed out and she shook her head some more before grabbing a towel and drying her hands.

"Which I beat you in." He smiled cheekily and she walked over to him, slapping his arm playfully. "Rematch tonight. That was just luck."

"If you say so."  Thomas said lowly, chuckling a bit before walking in the bedroom to put his sword down.

Esme looked at the papers spread out on the table in the living room, she sat down on the couch and began to move them around while she flipped a pen between her fingers.

"Hey, Esme I was thinking that we could-I thought I told you to take a break from all of that."  He looked at her softly.

"I know. I just.  I want to be ready or do it in advance."  She brushed some of her hair out of her face.

"It doesn't take place till 1969, we still have six more years. Plenty of time."  He reassured her.  Esme didn't say anything, just looked at the picture in her hand.  She then let out a sigh, nodding.

"You're right."

"Of course I am."  He smiled innocently.

"Now. I know you just got home. But let's get out of here and go dancing. I know it's your favorite." He commented.

"Yeah. I could use a night out. When do we go?" She looked up at him.

"Six. So in two hours and just for you I'll even wear a suit." He grabbed an edge of the black hood on his face.

Esme let out a dramatic gasp and smiled some more. "Didn't know you did that." She stood up and dropped the picture on the table, walking past him.

"Hey. I love this hood. Makes me mysterious." He told her as she shook her head, heading into the other room.

Thomas continued to have his smile on his as he watched her leave then looked down at the scattered mess on the table, before his eyes flickered to the picture she was holding of Sharon Tate. With one last look he left the room as well.

Klaus opened the car door to the drivers side as he hoped in, placing the two cans of paint in the passenger seat. Ben watching him from the back.

"So this is why you dragged me away from San Francisco, so you could rekindle your little Vietnam fling?" Ben asked annoyed.

"Why don't you stay out of my business, Casper?" Klaus groaned slightly.

"Your business is my business." Ben pointed out.

"Oh, well, then, congratulations, because you're fired!"  Klaus clasped his hands together, turning towards Ben a bit before facing forward and turning the car on.

"This is wrong, Klaus, it's selfish." Ben said gently, pausing debating if he should continue and he did. "Esme would agree with me."

Klaus was about to start driving but stopped and looked straight ahead. He missed Esme, she was always there for him, believed in him when the others didn't.

"Just stop, Ben." Klaus sighed.

"She would be disappointed in you."

"Would you stop?"

"It's selfish!"

"Damn it! Listen to me." Klaus turned towards Ben.

"Stop bringing Esme up in whatever little thing I do. It's really annoying and I'd do anything to see her right now and second, Dave told me the day he enlisted. It was the day Kennedy was murdered. If you could please stop bothering me for five minutes, I could convince him to not sign up and save his life!" Klaus went on and turned around to face the front.

"God dammit." Klaus hit the steering wheel while Ben didn't say anything else.

"Ow." Klaus hissed softly and rubbed his hand.

"Look..." Ben started again, his tone much softer.

"I miss her too, but I'm sure she's doing ok. Maybe Diego or someone found her. Or maybe she is living her life, with a guy, maybe has a kid or two and is happy. She deserves that life."

Klaus looked down at his hand sadly as he listened to Ben, taking it in, he was right. Hopefully she was living her life and is happy. Out of everyone she deserved it the most.

"But, just promise me you can handle this. Whatever happens." Ben looked at the back of Klaus' head while Klaus rolled his eyes, looking into the mirror to see Ben.

"Yeah, yeah. I can handle it. I can handle it." In the middle of Klaus saying that sirens were heard and soon two police cars with lights on went pass them.

"Oh, shit. Allison." Klaus looked out the window where the police cars passed, Ben looking as well.

Esme was fixing her hair in the mirror while Thomas was getting ready in the bathroom.  Esme tapped her foot lightly as she hummed, a wide smile on her face.  She was happy.  The happiest she has been in a long time.  She was living life.

She does miss her family, dearly.  But, it's been three years and she had given up that she will ever find them even though Thomas has continued to try.  She knew her family wouldn't want her to mope around.  They would want her to be happy and she wishes the same for them as well.

"Esme. We have a problem."  Thomas' voice interrupted her thoughts as she blinked a few times before turning towards him.

Thomas came out in a black and white tux that had a little black bow.  He had his mouth open slightly as he looked down at himself then to her.

"It's not gonna work."  He told her seriously.

"Oh, stop it."  Esme waved her hand slightly then walked in front of him, fixing his tie.

"You look handsome."  She gave him a smile.  "It's good to see you in something besides that hood."  She ran her thumbs gently across his dark lines under his eyes, giving him a reassuring smile.

"Let's go. I don't want to be late."  She backed away and grabbed her small bag before walking out first.

When they got to the park there were many people there, dancing and laughing. There were lights and a band playing, it just sparked joy.

"Come on!"  Esme shouted happily and grabbed Thomas' hand as she dragged him over to the dance floor.  The beat of the music was very upbeat and the two danced along with others around them.

"You know, I didn't think I would love 60s dance styles that much."  Esme told Thomas over the music.

"Really?"  He questioned, his eyebrow raising as he spun her around and brought her close to his chest.

"I honestly didn't think I would be dancing if I was being honest. It's pretty fun, normal."  His voice died down.

"Hey."  Esme looked up at him, with a serious look.  "You're not that anymore and you're certainly not going back.  You can do whatever you want now."  She reassured him.

The song ended and the two clapped along with the crowd. Esme turned around, clapping as she looked at the band. Her eyes drifted a few feet away from them and her smile disappeared.

Lucifer stood there, giving Esme a little wave. She looked at him harshly then to Thomas. "I'm going to go get a drink. Want one?" She questioned.

"No thank you." He was about to say something else when a man came up to Thomas.

"Hey! Tom, how are you."

"Hello Mark."

Esme easily slipped away from the two as she made her way to Lucifer.

"He's weird looking." Lucifer commented as he eyed Thomas.

"Get your ass over here." She hissed lowly and made her way away from the party, Lucifer following.

"Why are you so mad at me? I saved your life." He gave her a look.

"Because I don't want you here!" She said frustrated, her hands at either side of her.

Lucifer looked at her blankly and she let out a deep breath, sighing as she ran her finger through her hair.

"I am finally having a normal life.  I don't want to use my power anymore.  I haven't seen you in three years since that night, and it was nice.  I felt normal-"

"News flash Esme!  You're not normal."  Lucifer growled slightly as he looked at her a bit angry.

"You'll never be normal."  He continued and she closed her eyes.

"Go away."  She breathed in deeply and when she opened her eyes he was still there.

"So, after all these years you just want me to go away?"  He questioned.

"You have been gone!  And not just for these three years. You pop in and out of my life.  Yes.  There were some good times and you have saved my life multiple times, but I still remember what you did to me when I was a kid."  Her eyes began to tear up.

"I was helping-"

"Just like how my father helped me?"  She questioned, showing him one of her arms that held a few scars.

"This was when I was eight, from you."

She pointed to another one.

"When I was twelve, from you."

Esme held a strong glare to him as she moved her hair away from her neck, three claw marks from her neck and ended to her collarbone.

"Sixteen...from you."

Lucifers eyes held guilt and his mouth opened, but he didn't know what to say. Esme just stared at him, her eyes filling with lost and anger.

"What about that guy?" Lucifer pointed in the distance.

"Tony-"

"Thomas." She corrected him and he rolled his eyes.

"Whatever. Didn't he like kill you?"

"In an alternate universe and it wasn't really him. He's a good guy, he's changed. He is helping me find my family and we're figuring out how to save Sharon Tate." She gave him a look and he scoffed.

"I just need time and before you say something about these three years. I need more. I still have things to figure out. This isn't goodbye Luc." Her tone was much more soft.

Neither said anything, they just looked at each other. Slowly Lucifer nodded, he still held anger, but he always held anger. Guess, the little Esme he used to know was growing up.

"Ok..." His tone was gentle.

"But I'll always be around. Guess I'll go find someone else to pester." He joked, earning a small smile from her.

"Call if you need something."

And with that, Lucifer was gone.

Esme let out a deep breath she didn't know she was holding in.  She could hear the band and laughter in the distance, but she didn't feel like moving, she just wanted too...

"Esme."  A voice called out to her, but she paid no mind.

"Esme. Hey."  The voice was more worried as a hand shook her gently.

"Esme."

She blinked and saw Thomas with worried eyes in front of her.

"Hey. You ok?  You were gone for ten minutes and I began to worry, then I saw you just standing here."  He asked worriedly.

Esme didn't say anything, her thoughts were running so much she just shut herself off, she hasn't done that in a long time.  All Esme did was put a fake smile on and gave him a nod.  However, Thomas saw right through her.

"I'm fine."

Thomas' eyes held sympathy and he shook his head, his hands never leaving her shoulders.  "No, you're not."

Her lip began to tremble as they held eye contact.

"And it's ok to not be ok."

With that Esme bursted into tears and Thomas pulled her into his arms, running his hand gently through her hair as she clung onto him.

"Let's go home."  He told her softly as he held her close, the two walking down the dark sidewalk as the music began to disappear into the night.

I quite enjoyed this chapter. I'm sure I'm just breaking your hearts, hehe. I'm evil. No, I'm quite nice when it doesn't come to my writing.  Anyways. There's a meme at the end and a gif because why not. Also here are some questions from last chapter:

Whose her love interest?
This one is funny because I see it all the time. I actually wasn't going to give her one, but you'll have to wait ;)

Who is Dread's FaceClaim?
Daniel Sharman's character from Cursed. There's a gif from last chapter and in Extra Characters. Also, Dread and Thomas are the same person. So Thomas' FaceClaim to be exact. That was his 'new name' when he was all controlled and evil.

Are they married?
No, Thomas and Esme are not.

If there are any questions from this chapter, just a random question or anything you want to ask. Feel free. Will be answering at the end of next chapter. Enjoy this meme and gif and thank you for reading :)

Like. Just look at him. So beautiful 😍
