Why Didn't I Panic?
Ten years earlier, I'd been to a retreat in Arizona. Every morning we were taught Kundalini Yoga. One exercise had you let all your air out and wait until you felt it was necessary to inhale. This exercise helped you lose your fear of death. It didn't occur to me at first, but I later realized this kept me from panicking. I'd practiced being without air.
Not panicking helped, but years of meditating did as well. Being capable of slipping my body into a jelly-like relaxation had been embedded in my brain. Thank goodness, because it'd been more than a few years since I'd meditated.
At one point in my life, I spent one hour three times a day meditating. I had amazing life experiences and incredible inner joy. This is not hyperboyle. If I told you what happened to me, you would likely think I was a liar or crazy or both. Okay, I might be a little happy-crazy, but what is normal?
*Always consult a doctor before beginning any exercise. I strongly recommend that anyone interested in Kundalini Yoga go to a certified instructor. I do not recommend practicing on your own. It is a powerful yoga and can be dangerous. There are both physical and emotional risks. A good teacher and doctor will guide you through those experiences.*
An excellent book is The Kundalini Yoga Experience by Guru Dharam S. Khalsa and Darryl O'Keeffe ISBN 0-7432-2582-1. It is based on the teachings of Yogi Bhajan, who is considered the person who brought authentic Kundalini Yoga to the modern world. There are Kriyas for each organ of your body coordinating with related emotional centers. It balances your mind, body, and spirit.
A great organization is the 3HO Foundation. They were offering Kundalini yoga workshops as taught by Yogi Bhajan. It's been awhile since I've been on their website, but I would think that they still offer them.
