Chapter 3: A Reunion With An Old Friend

READER'S POV

'...Zelda...you've been fighting alone all this time?! ...and the other champions and Link....they're all gone...dammit! if I wasn't so weak back then...I could've saved them all!!'

I thought to myself as I stared at the castle in the distance. I collapsed onto my knees and I started crying.

"I failed Master...I failed as a leader...I failed as a champion...I failed as a friend to the others...I couldn't save them...Revali, Urbosa, Daruk, Mipha...they're all gone because of me..." I spoke as my voice cracked and I began sobbing.

I punched the ground and shouted.

"I don't deserve to be called a Champion or the leader of the Sheikah!! I'm weak...I couldn't stop Calamity Ganon's puppet from taking control of Sari...I couldn't stop Keegan...I was at death's door and I fell into a 100-year coma...I'm a failure..."

Impa placed her hand on my shoulder and she said to me.

"You shouldn't blame yourself, my dear student...back then, we all knew he was going to return but...we had no idea that he would send his pets to defeat the champions and take control of the Divine Beasts or the guardians."

I continued to cry and then Impa rubbed my back and she said to me.

"Come on, let's head back to my home so we can get you a decent meal inside of you, some proper clothes and then we can talk."

I nodded my head and then I stood up from the ground. I followed Impa with my head lowered since I was ashamed to call myself the leader of the Sheikah. I know some of the members and the villagers were pleased to see me finally awake but, I wasn't. We got into Impa's home and then her Granddaughter served us some cooked bass and fruit. I slowly ate my food and then Impa said to me.

"I know you're feeling upset right now, but things will get better."

"How can they?" I asked her as I placed my cup of water down on the table. "Master Impa, you taught me to be strong and be a good leader...but in the end, I still failed to stop Ganon from taking control of Sari and trying to stop Keegan..."

"I know it looks bad right now but, this fight is not over, it never was."

I looked at Impa surprised and then she told me.

"After Link was injured, Princess Zelda asked my people to place Link in the Shrine of Ressurection. This was also 100 years ago."

"So, that means, Link is still alive?"

"Yes but, you know what happens to those who go into the Shrine and use its technology."

I frowned a little and I nodded my head in agreement.

"Yes, I do, by the time Link wakes up, he will not remember who he is or who we are or what happened to him."

"Yes, and you're still alive too after being placed in the Shrine of Healing. You two are the only ones who can take back control of the Divine Beasts and stop Ganon."

I understood this but, a part of me wondered if I am still capable of assisting Link despite the fact that I was too weak to stop Ganon and defeat Keegan. Impa noticed the look on my face and she said to me.

"Don't look so worried my dear student...you will do fine...as I told you before, you didn't know that Ganon was targeting the Divine beasts or that Keegan was going to betray you...the only thing you can do is help Link and Zelda and take back control of the five Divine Beasts."

"But...I'm worried, what if...what if I fail again?"

"You will cross that bridge when you come to it, which won't happen because you're stronger than you think."

I looked at the palm of my hand and I could feel my light magic flowing through me once again. It was faint but, I know that I will do whatever I can help my friends and make sure the other champion spirits' are put to rest afterwards.

"All right...Master, please help me get stronger so I'm prepared to take down the Yiga clan and Calamity Ganon."

"That's the spirit! that's the feisty Sheikah I remember!" Impa spoke happily after slapping her lap happily.

"First things first, you need a change of clothes, you can't go around travelling in that outfit."

I looked down at myself and she was right, there was no way that I can respect as the leader of the Sheikah if I'm wearing old and torn clothes like the ones I found in the cave. Impa stood up and then she left for a moment to come back with some new clothes. I took them from her and I got changed.

Now, I am wearing the armour and the clothes of the Sheikah leader. I'm wearing a dark blue suit with short sleeves with armour on the shoulders and on my legs. I'm wearing the Sheikah symbol over my chest which was a grey vest. I'm wearing braces on my wrists with fingerless gloves. A grey scarf was wrapped around my neck while the long ends were hanging off my shoulders. My (H/c) hair was tied back into a high ponytail. The weapons that I'm carrying are my trusty twin swords, a short sword was strapped on my lower back. A pouch that was filled of throwing knives and shuriken. The rest of the pouches were filled with healing potions, smoke bombs and poisonous smoke bombs.

Impa smiled at me as she looked at me up and down.

"You look just like your mother..."

"Thank you, master," I spoke with a smile on my face.

"Now then, shall we get started with your teaching again?"

"Yes please."

I spoke with a smile on my face. We got onto the cliff and we were both sitting cross-legged while facing each other.

"Remember what I taught you before, relax your mind...forget all about your worries and responsibilities...focus on the one thing that makes you feel determined."

I closed my eyes and I slowly inhaled and exhaled as we meditated. I cleared my mind and I focused on a certain goal in mind and then my body started glowing. I slowly stood up from the ground and then Impa said to me.

"Good...now keep that goal in mind as you use your attacks...feel your light magic flow through your body and through your limbs."

I opened my eyes and then I performed the fighting moves she showed me when she was younger. I could feel my light magic flow through me and then I stopped for a moment and then I focused my light magic into my hands and then I fired my lighting ball at the large boulder. After the explosion, I was shocked when I saw the impact it had and Impa was impressed.

"Ooh...that was impressive...you were holding back the last time I watched you train...I'm impressed."

I looked at the palm of my hand and I knew I felt different when I began to use my magic.

"No master...you are wrong..." Impa looked at me surprised before I continued. "I didn't hold back the last time you trained with me BECAUSE I don't remember my magic being this powerful."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know...but, for some reason it feels like something happened to my powers after I fought against Keegan. I don't know how to describe it but, my light magic feels more destructive than usual. It's almost as if...it feels unstable."

Impa thought for a moment and then she asked me.

"If you feel like that, it's probably because you haven't used them in 100 years."

"Yeah probably..." I mumbled before looking away from her.

'I want to believe her but...I feel like something has changed and it does not feel good, not good at all.'

"Lady Impa! Lady (Y/n)!" One of the sheikh warriors shouted.

We turned to look and then the Sheikah Warrior knelt down and I said to him.

"What is it?"

"It's Master Link! he has awakened and he's in the village as we speak!"

I smiled when I heard his name and then Impa said to me.

"Don't get your hopes up, there's a chance that he won't remember you."

"I know, I'm just relieved to hear that he's still alive."

I smiled before Impa and I headed back to the house. Once we got there, Impa sat in front of the tapestry while I sat next to her. I sat there with my head held high so I acted like a true leader before the doors opened.

"...So, you're finally awake," Impa spoke before raising her head. "It has been quite a long time, Link. I am much older now, but...you remember me and your old friend, don't you?"
