Route to Santalune
I yelped and rolled to the side as the lead Geodoude aimed a Rock Throw straight at me, barely dodging the attack. The attack sailed over the pot Chespin was hiding in and plowed straight into Conner. The super effective attack sent Conner flying, knocking him back several paces.
Genevieve and Morgan noticed the commotion and looked at the attacking Geodude. "Geodude?" Morgan asked, "I didn't know any lived around here. I thought that they preferred rocky terrain."
"Obviously, they're here now," Geneveive stated, lifting up her Pokedex and scanning the Geodude.
"Geodude, the Rock Pokemon," the Pokedex said in a mechanical voice, "Geodude is often found on mountain roads with half of its body buried in the ground so that it can observe mountain travelers."
The three Geodude heard the mechanical voice and turned to face Genevieve and Morgan. "Why do I get the feeling that's not good?" Morgan questioned, backing up a step.
The three Geodudes curled into balls and rolled towards Genevieve and Morgan. Both dove to the side, barely avoiding the attacking Pokemon.
"Hey, it's not nice to go picking on random people and Pokemon!" I yelled at the Geodude. The three Geodude turned to face me and the leader used Rock Throw. I leapt up into the air, avoiding the rocks. I landed next to the pot Chespin was hiding in. When the lead Geodude rolled at me in a Rollout attack, Chespin jumped out from the pot and struck the Geodude with a Vine Whip attack. Conner, who had recovered from the initial attack, followed up with an Ember.
I looked over to the two Geodude who were focusing there attacks on Genevieve and Morgan. Morgan had released Pidgey to fight the Geodude, but the Flying/ Normal type was having trouble landing a hit on the two Geodude. "Chespin," I stated, "Go and help Pidgey. Conner and I can handle this Geodude."
Chespin glaceed at me. "Are you sure?" he asked.
I nodded. "Genevieve, Morgan, and Pidgey need your help right now," I answered.
Chespin raced towards Pidgey and the other two Geodude. As Conner and I watched him go, Conner asked, "Are you sure that was a good idea, Amanda? This is the lead Geodude we're battling, and there's no doubt that it will be stronger than the other two."
"I realize that," I noted, "But facing two against one is harder, and I couldn't let Genevieve or Morgan get hurt because Pidgey was at a disadvantage."
"You make it hard to argue with you," Conner replied, "Let's give this Geodude a battle that it won't forget."
With that, Conner aimed an Ember at the Geodude, and I followed it up with a Quick Attack. The Geodude jumped to the side then used Rock Throw, aimed at Conner, but I hit the rock with a Thunder Shock and turned it to rubble. Conner hit the Geodude with an Ember attack, but it did little damage.
The Goedude used Tackle on me and I attempted to counter with Quick Attack, but the Geodude was stronger and its attack overpowered mine, sending me tumbling back a few paces. Conner tried to hit the Geodude with another Ember, but the Geodude used Rock Throw and landed a super effective hit on Conner.
While the Geodude was focused on Conner, I used Quick Attack, although didn't do very much damage, because it was a Normal- type move. The Geodude attempted to use Rollout, but I dodged the attack. Conner stuggled to his feet and used Smoke Screen, surrounding the Geodude in a thick, black smoke. Using the smoke as a cover- up, I used Quick Attack and Conner followed it up with Ember.
The both of us paused while the Smoke Screen gradually cleared. Revealed at the center was the Geodude, still standing.
"This Geodude's starting to get annoying," Conner complained, "Its defense is so high, I feel like we're not even scratching it."
"Geodude are Rock and Ground type," I noted, "Fire and Normal moves aren't very effective, and Electric type moves don't effect it at all."
The Geodude started to glow with a faint brown light, and slammed the ground. The ground started to tremble, and the trembling increased each time the Geodude slammed the ground.
"What move is this?" Conner asked, stumbling as the move increased in power.
"It must be Magnitude," I replied, also struggling to maintain my balance on the shaking ground.
The second the shaking stopped, the Geodude used Rollout on Conner, landing several consecutive super effective hits. Before Conner could recover, the Geodude used Rock Throw, knocking him to the ground.
While Conner was still struggling to get up, the Geodude started to use Tackle, but I struck it with a Thunder Shock. Even though it didn't effect the Geodude, it still seemed to annoy it. The Geodude turned its attention to me and used Rock Throw. I avoided the move and used Quick Attack on the Geodude, although it barely did any damage.
The Geodude used Rock Throw on me again. I attempted to dodge, but was too slow, and the attack slammed into my side, knocking me back several paces. Before I could blink, the Geodude had followed up the attack with a Rollout, striking me multiple times.I struggled back up to my feet and turned to face the Geodude.
The Geodude started to use Tackle, but was distracted when Conner, who had recovered from the previous attacks, used Ember on it. As the Geodude turned to attack Conner, I used Quick Attack and attacked it from behind. As the Geodude turned to use Tackle on me, I leapt over it and landed next to Conner.
"Any ideas on how we can beat this Geodude?" Conner asked, panting from being hit consistently with super effective moves.
"One last idea, although I can't say that I like it," I admitted. As the Geodude turned to attack us again, I decided to try my plan. I struck a cute pose and winked. Hearts flew out and encircled the Geodude. When they vanished, the Geodude looked at me with an annoyed look.
I backed up a pace. "Why didn't it work?" Conner asked.
"Apparently, the Geodude is a girl," I answered, "Which makes me wonder why they called the Geodudes geoDUDES if some are girls."
"Please tell me you have another idea," Conner begged as the Geodude advanced.
"Wish I could but I can't," I replied. The Geodude shot another Rock Throw at Conner and I. We both dove to the side to avoid it. The Geodude followed up the Rock Throw with a Rollout, curling into a ball and rolling over Conner and I. As we both struggled to get to our feet, the Geodude used Magnitude and hit both Conner and I with a super effective hit.
I slowly rose back to my feet and turned to face the Geodude. The Geodude curled into a ball and rolled towards me in a Rollout. Before she could hit me, however, a green vine curled around her and tossed her away from me.
"Chespin!" I exclaimed as he withdrew the Vine Whip."Are you and Conner okay?" Chespin asked, eyeing the Geodude.
"I'm fine," I answered, "But I'm not sure about Conner."
"I'm all right," I heard Conner reply.
"You two can leave this Geodude to me," Chespin stated, turning to face the Geodude.
The Geodude, who now looked excedingly mad because Chespin threw it, used Rock Throw aimed at Chespin. Chespin leapt in the air to dodge the attack and used Vine Whip on the Geodude. When Chespin landed, the Geodude used Rollout, but Chespin countered it with his own Rollout.
Halting her Rollout attack, the Geodude shot multiple Rock Throws at Chespin. Chespin used Vine Whip and caught two of the rocks, then sent them flying back at the Geodude. Before the Geodude could retaliate, Chespin followed it up with another Vine Whip, sending the Geodude flying into a bush.Chespin waited for a second to be sure the the Geodude wasn't coming back, Chespin turned to Conner and I.
"That was easy," he stated.
"Maybe for you, but Conner and I were at a disadvantage," I replied, "And you were at an advantage."
"You've got a point," Chespin noted, "Let's get back to Genevieve and Morgan. They're remaking dinner with wild berries, which should help you two feel better."
"Where did they go?" I asked, "This was our campsite, but I don't see either of them anywhere."
"They went back to the main trail," Chespin answered, "Once we finish eating, Genevieve and Morgan want to hunt for the path to Santalune City."
"That makes sense," I agreed, "No use staying here with our campsite destroyed."
Chespin lead us to where Genevieve and Morgan had set up a temporary camp at the edge of the path using what they could salvage from our old one. Morgan had gotten a fire going and was cooking a second dinner. Genevieve was going through our remaining camping and adventure supplies.
"Hey you guys," Genevieve stated when she saw Chespin, Conner, and I heading towards her. Taking a closer look, she noted, "Amanda and Conner, you two look like that Geodude really gave you a beating." Conner and I reluctantly nodded.
Morgan, overhearing Genevieve's comment, replied, "It's a good thing that this berry soup I'm making is made with Oran and Lum berries that I found in the bushes near here. All of our potions were lost when the Geodude attacked our campsite."
Conner, Chespin, and I sat down around the fire and waited for Morgan to finish cooking. None of us said anything. Conner and I were to worn out, and Chespin probably was, too, although he'd never admit it. When Morgan finished making the soup, she released Pidgey and handed him a bowl before handing Chespin, Conner, and I each a bowl. She and Genevieve split the rest.
"Are you sure it's a good idea to keep looking for the path to Santalune City?" Genevieve questioned, "It's already dark out and we could get lost."
"We're already lost," Morgan pointed out, "And besides, we CAN'T stay here. We don't have the camping supplies we need. When we get to Santalune, we can rent a room at the Pokemon center."
"But we don't have any money to rent a room," Genevieve stated.
"Didn't you know?" Morgan asked, "The rooms in the Pokemon center are free for traveling trainers."
"No, actually, I didn't know that," Genevieve replied, "But how are we even going to get to Santalune City if we couldn't find the path in the daytime?"
"We'll just have to chance it," Morgan stated, "We don't exactly have a choice."
"I guess you're right," Genevieve admitted, finishing off her soup and setting it to the side. She stood up and started to put away the stuff that had been used to cook. The rest of us finished as well and helped put stuff away, and Morgan returned Pidgey.
Once everything was put away, we started in what we hoped was the direction of Santalune City. Occasionally, Morgan would glance at her Town Map to be sure we were on the right track. After walking for a little while, Morgan glanced at her Town Map and told us to stop.
"What is it?" Genevieve questioned, "I don't see anything."
"The Town Map says that Route Three, the route leading to Santalune, is right over there," Morgan answered, pointing to the right to the trail.
"But I still don't see anything," Genevieve stated, "If there was a path there, we should be able to see it, right?"
"You're right," Morgan agreed, "Unless..." She trailed off, staring at the place where the path to Santalune should be. She stretched out her hand, then quickly withdrew it. "Have Conner us Ember right there!" she exclaimed, "I think that there's something there!"
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Genevieve asked, "We might set the entire forest on fire."
"Just trust me," Morgan replied.
Conner looked up at Genevieve expectantly. "Alright," Genevieve sighed, "Conner, use Ember in that spot!"
Conner exhaled a small ball of flames and sent them flying in the direction of the spot Morgan had been pointing to. The small burst of flames hit something spherical and set it ablaze before causing it to fall of the forest floor and extinguishing the flames. Behind it was a path, the path to Santalune that we had been looking for.
"What was that?" Genevieve asked, looking at the charred sphere.
"I'm going to guess a Pokemon built its nest in the pathway, covering it up," Morgan replied.
"Won't the Pokemon be upset when it finds that we burned its nest?" Genevieve questioned.
"Probably," Morgan agreed, "Which me we've got to get out of here before the Pokemon comes back!" With that, she took off running down Route Three with Chespin following her. Genevieve, Conner and I ran close behind. None of us wanted another run in with wild Pokemon.
After we had safely put some distance between us and the exit to the Santalune forest, we slowed to a walk. Soon, we could see the lights of the city glowing in the distance.
"There's Santalune," Morgan stated, "We're almost there!"
"Yay!" Chespin cheered, bouncing up and down, "First Gym Battle, here I come!"
"The Gym's probably closed right now, Chespin," I noted, "Which means you're going to have to wait until tomorrow until you're Gym match. You probably wouldn't do all that good in a match right now, anyway."
"No way," Chespin replied, "I could probably beat that Gym Leader in my sleep!" With that, Chespin bounced to the front of the group, clearly eager to battle.
"I'd hate to break it to him, but if I'm right, Chespin's not going to stand a chance in this town's Gym," Conner sighed.
"You don't think that it could be her, do you?" I asked.
"I wouldn't be surprised," Conner answered.
"If it is her, I feel sorry for Chespin," I sighed, "The Santalune Gym Leader wasn't the easiest Gym Leader in the game to beat, I'll admit. And I was even using a Fire- type."
"We'll just have to find out, now won't we?" Conner stated, "I could be wrong, but I doubt it."
After that, we continued walking in silence until we reached the city. The first building you saw was the Pokemon Center. Without even looking around at the rest of the small city, Genevieve, Conner, and I headed straight for the Pokemon Center.
"Where are you going?" Morgan asked.
"The Pokemon Center, obviously," Genevieve replied, "You can't have your Gym battle until tomorrow, because the Gym's closed, and besides, I'm tired."
"I guess you're right," Morgan agreed, reluctantly following Genevieve, Conner and I into the Pokemon Center with Chespin following her.

~Author's Note
Sorry about the late update, everyone. I had almost finished writing the Geodude battle scene when I suddenly remembered that Geodude was a Rock/ Ground type, not a solid Rock type. So I kind of had to rewrite the battle. Sorry!
Also, if you notice any mistakes (spelling, grammar, ect.) please tell me! I'm not the best whenever it comes to spelling and stuff, and although I do try to check for errors, I'll still miss stuff sometimes.
And the normal VCK: Vote, Comment, and Keep reading (you do want to know what happens next, right?)!
