Kalos

I groan. It hurt. Everything hurt.

"Hey, are you okay?" I heard a voice ask.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked for the source of the voice. I didn't have to look very hard. A tall girl with short, blonde hair was leaning over me. She was HUGE. I mean, not fat huge, just HUGE. Like a giant, almost. I never thought people could grow to be that big.

"Good. You're okay. Now to check on the other two." the girl stated, moving to my left. I looked left, and saw that Genevieve was laying to my left. She, also, appeared to have grown. What was going on?

I pushed myself up into a sitting position, then immediately regretted it. My head spun, and dots danced before my eyes. I laid back down and waited for my vision to clear and my head to stop spinning. I attempted to sit up again. This time, no dots came, but my head still spun a bit. I waited for it to stop, then looked around.

It took me about three seconds to realize I was not at the zoo. Nowhere close, in fact. I was in a field that I didn't recognize. Running along side the grassy area was a river, and in front was a deep forest.

"You awake!" a voice behind me exclaimed. I turned around, and it took all my self control not to scream. I stared at the creature in front me, dumb-struck. It was a Chespin. The Chespin stared back, then noted, "You could say hi, too, you know." I just stared back. The Chespin blinked at me. "Not a big talker, huh?"

I finally got my self together enough too mutter, very intelligently, "You're a Chespin."

The Chespin straightened up, "Yah, I know. I'm pretty amazing. Surprised to see a starter Pokemon, now are you, Pikachu?"

I looked at the Chespin curiously. I had no idea why he was calling me a Pikachu. Sure, the world seemed bigger, and he seemed about my height, but I wasn't a Pikachu. I thought about the comment a little while longer, and a scary idea formed in my mind. I looked at my hand, and instead of a hand, I had a bright yellow paw. I couldn't stop myself. I screamed.

"Whoa, Pikachu. Are you okay?" the Chespin asked. I couldn't bring myself to answer him. I was a Pikachu. A Pokemon.

The girl from earlier heard me scream, and walked over to where I was. "Are you okay, Pikachu?" the girl asked, "Is Chespin scaring you? Be nice, Chespin." Chespin looked annoyed, but said nothing.

I rushed over to Genevieve and started poking her. I wondered why Genevieve hadn't transformed into a Pokemon. I glanced to Genevieve's left and saw a Charmander. I walked over to the Charmander and started to poke him. "Conner?" I whispered.

The Charmander groaned and rolled over. The girl came up behind me. "They're still sleeping," she stated. I looked up at her, and she crouched down next to me. "Where are my manners? Pikachu, my name is Morgan. I's nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you, too," I replied, though it probably sounded more like 'Pika, pikachu.' I got a good look at Morgan. She was wearing blue jeans and a yellow t- shirt. A belt holding Pokeballs was strung around her waist, and she wore a black beanie hat on her head.

A rustling sound came from the grass behind Morgan, and I glanced behind her. Morgan looked too, and then grinned. "Looks like a wild Pokemon," Morgan whispered. She drew a Pokeball from her belt, and out popped Chespin. "Come on, Chespin! Let's see if we can't catch that Pokemon!" Morgan and Chespin raced into the rustling grass.

Soon I heard the sounds of two Pokemon battling. I turned my attention to waking Genevieve and Conner. I thought for a moment , then remembered something. Genevieve was ticklish. I walked over to Genevieve and started to tickle her along her side. Genevieve woke up with a yelp. She sat up. "I don't want to go to school today," she complained.

I stepped into her line of view. "And you're awake," I noted.

Genevieve opened he mouth to scream, but I covered it up, then pointed to where Morgan and Chespin were in the midst of a battle. Genevieve looked at me. "So, you're a wild Pikachu?" she asked. I shook my head and wrote 'Amanda' in the dirt. "Amanda?" Genevieve asked, "How come you're a Pikachu?" I shrugged. I really had not clue. I had no clue how we even got here. I had no clue where we even were.

I heard a groan next to Genevieve, and glanced over to where Conner the Charmander was laying. "Are you awake now?" I asked him.

I walked in front of him, and he stated, "You're a Pikachu."

"Thank you, captain obvious," I sighed, "And you're a Chamander."

"I'm a human dress up as a Charmander, if that's what you mean," Conner insisted.

"No, you seriously are a Chamder," I argued.

"Really?" he asked. He held up his hand, with was now a Charmander hand, and gasped. "Okay, so maybe I am a Chamander."

"Yes, and Genevieve is somehow still a human," I noted, glancing up at Genevieve. Absolutly nothing had changed in her appearance.

Genevieve bent down to look at the two of us. "I wish that I knew what you two are saying," Genevieve sighed. Genevive looked at Conner, then asked, "Conner, are you a Charmander?" Conner nodded in response.

"Yay, I caught a Pidgey!" and excited voice exclaimed from the grass, "Great job, Chespin!" Morgan emerged from the grass, followed by Chespin. Morgan noticed that Genevieve was awake.

"Hi," Morgan stated, "it's good to see you're finally awake."

Genevieve stood up and looked at Morgan, then asked, "Who are you?"

"I'm Morgan," Morgan answered, "I just started my Pokemon journey from Vaniville Town with Chespin," Chespin straightened up at the mention of his name. "Who are you?" Morgan asked.

"I'm Genevieve, and my Pikachu is named Amanda, and my Charmander is named Conner," Genevieve replied.

"Cool! So you nickname your Pokemon," Morgan noted.

"Sure do!" Genevieve answered, grinning.

"Do you have a Pokedex?" Morgan questioned.

"A Pokedex?" Genevieve asked.

Morgan nodded, "Most trainers get them when they start they're Pokemon journy," Morgan expained, "It records Pokmon that the trainer's met, and can even tell them what moves their Pokemon know."

"Uh, I don't know if I have that," Genevieve replied. "Do you know where I could get one?"

"Why don't you check your backpack?" Morgan suggested, "Maybe you have it, but forgot you do."

Genevieve took of here backpack. I hadn't even noticed it was there until just now. It must have traveled here with us. Genevieve took off her backpack and started to rummage through it. She pulled out a Kalos Pokedex. I stared at it. How had a Pokedex gotten into Genevieve's backpack?

"See? I knew you had it," Morgan smiled, "Almost everyone does. A whole bunch of people manage to loose theirs, though. Can you imagine loosing your Pokedex?"

"No, I can't" Genevieve lied.

"Well, that's enough of that," Morgan stated, "So, now, like any trainers who meet on the road, I need to challenge you to a battle! I would like to test the strength of my new Pokemon."

I looked at Genevieve, and saw my anxiety reflected in her eyes. Genevieve had absolutely no ides what moves Conner or I had, and I had no idea how to use mine. Genevieve gulped, "Okay, sure. A single battle with two Pokemon?" she asked.

"Yes," Morgan replied, "That's exactly it. You are familiar with the rules, correct?"

"Yes. Only one Pokemon is sent out at a time and all that stuff?" Genevieve replied.

"Exactly right," Morgan answered, "So, for my first pick, I choose Chespin!" she exclaimed. Chespin hopped in front of Morgan.

"You ready?" Chespin challenged, "I maybe new to battling, but I'm really strong."

"Really?" Genevieve asked, "Go, Conner!" Conner yelped and hid behind Genevieve's legs.

"Seriously?" I asked. I dragged Conner out from behind Genevieve's legs and out in front of Chespin. I glanced up and saw Genevieve scanning Conner, Chespin, and I with the Pokedex. Well, at least she would have an idea of what to do. But I wasn't sure if Conner knew how to use his moves. I knew I didn't.

I left Conner in front of Chespin and climbed on to Genevieve's shoulder. I glanced at her Pokedex, and saw the I was up on the screen. Apparently, I knew Thunder Shock, Quick Attack, and Attract. The only problem was that I had no idea how to use the moves.

"Okay, Conner!" Genevieve exclaimed, drawing my attention back to the battle, "use Ember!"

Conner took a deep breath in and breathed out a breath of fire. Which was a great attempt, only all it did was explode in his face. Conner coughed and backed up a couple of paces.

"Really?" Morgan laughed, "That's the best you can do? Chespin, use Vine Whip!"

Small vines extended from Chespin's back and head towards Conner.

"Conner, try Ember again!" Genevieve exclaimed.

Conner took another deep breath in, and exhaled sharply. A small burst of flames emitted from his mouth and singed Chespin and his vine whips. Chespin withdrew the vines.

"Quick, Conner, use Scratch!" Genevieve exclaimed.

Conner rushed forward and scratched Chespin. Chespin staggered back to Morgan. Morgan held out Chespin's Pokeball. "Return!" she demanded. A red glow encased Chespin, then was sucked into the ball. "You did good," Morgan complimented him. She drew a second Pokeball from her belt. "Alright, I'm not loosing this time! Pidgey, I choose you!"

"Come back, Conner," Genevieve ordered, "Go, Amanda!"

I leaped off of Genevieve shoulder and landed on the ground. I was facing a Flying type. This should be very easy. If, that was, I actually knew how to use some of my moves!

"Okay Amanda," Genevieve stated, "use Thunder Shock!"

I closed my eyes and imagined electricity sparking from my cheeks, and I heard sparking noises. I imagined the energy building up inside of me until it came out and headed to zap Pigdey. Nothing happened.

"Pidgey, use Tackle!" Morgan exclaimed. The Pidgey flew at me. I yelped and dodged to the side.

"Amanda, use Quick Attack!" Genevieve shouted. I rushed at Pidgey faster than I had ever run before and slammed into him, knocking him across the grass. Pidgey struggled to get up.

"Before he has a chance to get up, use Thunder Shock!" Genevieve exclaimed. I charged up and attempted to attack again, but the results were the same.

"Pidgey, use Tackle again!" Morgan stated. I rolled to the side and the Pidgey missed  me by inches, but it wheeled around as fast as lightning and slammed into me. I tumbled across the grass.

"Amanda, try using Thunder Shock," Genevieve stated.

I attempted the attack again, but before I could focus enough to actually get it to work, Morgan yelled, "Pidgey, use Sand Attack!" I had to cover my eyes to keep the sand from getting in them. "Follow it up with Tackle!" Morgan ordered. I uncovered my eyes just in time to see the Pidgey fly at me. Before I could blink, it slammed into me and knocked me farther across the field.

"Amanda, come back," Genevieve shouted.

I slowly stood up, then turned to face Pidgey. "No, I'm not going to loose!" I exclaimed. Without Genevieve telling me to, I rushed at Pidgey and slammed him with a full force Quick Attack, sending him tummbling across the field.

To follow up the move, I tried to use the move Attract. I posed and winked at Pidgey. Hearts flew out and encircled him. When the hearts vanished, the tiny bird Pokemon looked at me dreamily. It had worked. Now to finish him off.

I gathered up for a Thunder Shock attack, and this time, instead of trying to concentrate on it, I just let it flow. The electricity coursed through me, and the attack built up power. A deadly bolt of electricity shot out and zapped the Pidgey with the force of a lightning bolt.

Sparks danced around Pidgey, and it didn't try to get up. Morgan held out a Pokeball. "Pidgey, return," she sighed, "You did your best."

I bounced up and down in glee. So maybe I did know how to use my moves after all. "Great job, Amanda," Genevieve praised me. I smiled at her.

"That was a really good battle," Morgan commented, "I'd love to challenge you again sometime, but right now I've got to Aquacorde Town and heal my Pokemon."

"How far is Aquacorde from here?" Genevieve asked.

"Just down the route a little ways. We're on Route Two, which is just outside the town," Morgan answered, turning down a well- worn path.

"Mind if we come?" Genevieve questioned.

"Not at all," Morgan replied, "Some company would be nice. You can go an heal your Pokemon there, too, and maybe even get some Potions or Pokeballs if you're low."

I climbed up onto Genevieve's shoulder and and rode there. Conner walked on her left side, and Morgan at her right. When we reached Aquacorde Town, which was just over the hill, Morgan went into a building, where she said she was going to heal her Pokemon. I jumped down from Genevieve's shoulder and raced over to the map at the center of town. The top of the map read 'Kalos Region Map.' So we had been transported into Kalos. I sighed. How could we get home now?

Genevieve came up behind me. "Hey, Amanda," she stated, "Whats wrong?" Conner came up behind her and looked at me expectantly.

"I want to go back home," I admitted.

"Same here," Conner added.

Genevieve looked at me. "It's so annoying that I don't know what you're saying," she sighed.

I looked at her, then slapped the map with my tail.

"What about the map?" Genevieve asked. I shook my head, then traced a picture in the ground. A simple triangle over a square. House, home, whatever you wanted to call it. I tapped on the map again, then pointed to the picture.

Genevieve looked at the drawing, then at the map. "Does the map reminds you of how far away from home we are?" Genevieve guessed.

I shrugged, then nodded. She was close enough. And it was true.

Morgan came out from the building she had gone into with Chespin walking by her side. "Where are you going, Genevieve?" she asked.

Genevieve looked at the map, then answered, "I'm going to head for Lumiose City."

"Really? Cool," Morgan stated, "I'm going on an adventure to collect all the Gym Badges and challenge the Pokemon League. I'm heading for Santalune City, which has a Gym in it. It's on the way towards Lumiose City. We could travel together for a while," Morgan suggested.

"Sure," Genevieve replied, "Are you two okay with it?" she asked me and Conner. We both nodded.

"So it looks like we'll be traveling together," Chespin noted.

"Sure does," I agreed, "Maybe I could give you some battle tips. Your style could use some work."

"Says the Pikachu who almost got beaten by a Pidgey," Chespin huffed, "I actually defeated him."

"You would never stand a chance against a flying- type who could use a flying- types move," I shot back, "You were just lucky that, at low levels, Pidgey don't know any flying- type moves. Other wise I can assure you that Pidgey would have beaten you to a pulp."

"And you two can stop now," Conner sighed, "You're making my head hurt."

"Come on, Amanda and Conner!" Genevieve exclaimed, "We're wasting daylight! I don't want to get stuck in the forest at night."

"Let's get going, Chespin!" Morgan shouted excitedly, "Just a forest standing between us and our first Gym battle!"

The two took of towards Route Two at top speed with Genevieve, Conner, and I right on their tail.
