His smile, his happy tone, his way of interacting, it was all different and it was pissing Gene off.
Gene watched as he takes orders with his mask off smiling brighter than Gene seen in awhile, but something was off, and gene wasn't about to let it slide, Gene has been watching Zane even more closely ever since him aphmau, Lucinda, Kim and garroth had come back, even though Aaron had gone with them he was nowhere to be seen, garroth had informed everyone that he went on a business trip for his family and wasn't going to be back for a while. Aphmau Being in a bad State since her lover was gone, was unable to do much, so Zane took charge and is running the cafe while aphmau is still coping.
But it wasn't just aphmau who is odd when they came back, Lucinda closed her shop and has been secluding herself for a while with Kim with her, garroth has been more air-headed than usual he keeps staring off in deep thought, and then the person who was changed the most, The Fragile boy Gene tortured in high school, the boy who hates him the most out of everyone, the boy he teases so he would be mad at him every  he's in la-la land, just so Gene can hear the insult that comes out of his covered pink Freckly  lips, the boy who Gene wants to be closest to,
Zane ro'meave, the boy Gene has fallen in a deep love with.
Zane was a complete opposite of himself, he was cheery always smiling, and it was a site that Gene longed-for, but he could see that it was forced, the Cheery expression, that smile that people melt over, the glisten in his voice, all fake Gene could see past that and he notice things that others haven't.
Zane had put what appeared to be concealer under and around his eye, his skin had a kind of pale that looks harsh from his normal milky porcelain tone of skin, he lost some weight from his normally somewhat plump appearance that gave him a nice curve in his hips and waist, and his eye, oh his eye, filled to the brim with ache, and sadness almost as if he could break down any second,  that's what Gene had noticed, and he could see how much it looks like the dear boy he loves needs to talk, hug, feed him, make him get sleep and cuddle him until he melts into nothing but love and hope, and Gene sure as hell wasn't about to let that thought go unfulfilled,

(Gene's POV)

While I'm washing the dishes I can see a zane taking orders with his mask off and smiling brightly, I would normally smile at Zane if he was in a good mood, but no I'm wearing a pissed-off expression, gritting my teeth, darts in my eyes and if you dared speak to me even after seeing my mood, my words would be filled and overflowing with poison, this was not Zane and something's very wrong. You wouldn't know this from all signs, if people knew him like I did they would know he's in some serious pain, but no one can see the pain and aching his icy eye,
"G-Gene~kun a-are you o-ok?"a shaky voice croaked out, I look to my side to see the pink haired meifwa looking up at me.
I don't have a good opinion on this girl she thinks because she has three things in common with Zane that she can just steal him away whenever she pleases, Zane obviously goes along with her because he wants to show off how he can make more friends.
Oh, and don't think I don't know about her little crush on MY Zane, sure we're not official and he doesn't know about me lik-sorry, LOVING him but still, she has a nose and meifwas can smell when someone has been scented and trust me I've scented him plenty
"WHAT?" I Spit with more Venom than necessary
"Well you broke that plate and you haven't even noticed, you're just staring at the customers" she squeaked"and the customers are getting uncomfortable" she adds I look down at my hands to see that I was very badly cut from the porcelain plates, the delayed pain soon erupted from my hand" FUCK I'll be right back"I say rushing into the changing room where medkit is located. I scanned the room and spot the red box with a white cross on it, grabbing it swiftly and sitting on the bench that is in the middle of the room, it was difficult to open the box but I eventually did, getting a lot of blood on it in the process.
"Gene?"a familiar deep voice said with worry in there tone,
I looked up to the door to see Zane looking at me, his beautiful
Icy blue eye made my heart skip a beat, but soon it travelled down to my hands that were covered in the fiery liquid, his eye widen and he rushed to me
"How did this happen"he said to me in a terrified tone that makes my heart ache. He grabs my hand lightly but that doesn't stop it from stinging, I grunted and grit my teeth
"Heh I broke a plate on accident doesn't hurt though"I lie through my teeth as he takes off his gloves as well as mine to do a thorough cleaning,
" Gene please be more careful, I know you got that bad-boy thing going on for you, but even I can see that you're in pain"
He States starting to pick out the white shards with a pair of tweezers that were located in the med kit.
"You're one to talk"I mumble under my breath as I Look Away, not just from the blood, which I can't lie I'm squeamish, but to not look at his worried expression,
"What was that?" he asks, looking up from his cleaning, tilting his head and his lips slightly parted, I just wanted to scream
'STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT I'M TRYING NOT TO GET FLUSTERED BY YOUR CUTENESS'
"Nothing, nothing, sorry for having you clean up my mess"I say to him apologetically.
he looks up at me and gives me a genuine smile, not the fake one he's been giving everyone for the past while, his soft pink lips curved up his eyes in a caring State, I couldn't take it anymore, my hand made its way to his cheek, and rested upon the freckle surfaced his expression soon turn to surprise as I started to lean in and......
