45. Umm Rayyan
To the children who feel entitled and think their parents didn't do anything for them.
- At least your mother carried you for 9 months and chose to bring you into this world? Unlike many others who have and who still choose to end their unborn children in their wombs.
- At least she fed you from her bosom and kept you breathing, and didn't let you starve to meet your end?
- At least she stayed up at night, giving up her own sleep to tend to you?
- At least your father gave you a roof and safety of a home?
- At least he slogged day in and day out to put food on your plate?
- At least he rushed you to the hospital when you were sick and didn't leave you to your consequences?
Allāhﷻ says:
"And We have enjoined on man to be dutiful and kind to his parents. His mother bears him with hardship. And she brings him forth with hardship..."
[al-Ahqaaf 46:15]
And Allāhﷻ also says:
"say not to them a word of disrespect"
[al-Israa' 17:23]
If they did not do anything for you, the least they did to you was kept you alive, kept you safe, kept you breathing and living. Allāhﷻ did not just raise the status of parents in our lives, Heﷻ did not just make them a means of attaining Jannah.
Wake up from your slumber, open your eyes and give them their dues just as they fulfilled their duties towards you.
It's not that you can ever repay them for even a drop of sweat that fell on the floor for your sake, but do for the sake of love and compassion, out of sincere gratitude towards them.
For the one who does not show gratitude to human beings has no gratitude towards Allāhﷻ.
Yours Sincerely
Umm Rayyan.
