Bismillahir Rahmanee Raheem, The Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If what you say about him is true, you are backbiting him, but if it is not true then you have slandered him. (Muslim)

Subhana'Allaah it is so easy to talk about others, and put them down. Many people do this to make themselves feel like they are better.

The best thing to do is keep yourself so busy with doing good deeds, that you don't have time to talk about others in'sha'Allaah.
