Being Grateful to Allah - An exceptional reminder.
After my reminder yesterday on parenting, I remembered an encounter many years ago with a dear uncle who's passed away now.
He was the father-in-law of a brother I know, who had a cancer of the mouth that had been treated with radiotherapy.
We were having tea and I offered him a biscuit. He declined saying that the treatment for cancer had left his saliva glands inactive, so he had no saliva in his mouth and couldn't eat any dry food like biscuits or bread, only liquid food.
"You should thank Allah for your saliva" he reminded me.
I only met him once, but his words have stuck with me since.
We take so much for granted - our saliva, our tears, our skins, our immune systems etc.
It's only when they are gone or damaged we'd miss them as he did.
It made me remember this
اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّيْ عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ
Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatika
O Allah! Assist me in remembering You, in thanking You, and in worshipping You in the best of manners.
"One day the Prophet (S.A.W) took Mu'adh Ibn Jabal (R.A) by the hand and said 'O Mu'adh, by Allah I love you, and I advise you, O Mu'adh, never forget to recite (this Du'a), after every prayer (Fard)". [Abu Dawud, Book 16, Hadith 1422]
- This reminder was posted by Dr Abdul Wahid - can't tag the brother but this is a much needed reminder for myself.
