Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!
I present to you my review and recommendation of DormantWriter 's novel "Dormant Love"!
Cover:
It's quite intriguing. There's a lot on the cover for one to be instantly hooked. Looking at the girl, my mind began racing with questions, like why is a fraction of her face covered with a thick black line that stands out from the rest? Is there a hidden message to this? Why does her face have scratches on it?
Her eyes do seem like a window to her soul, or in this case, a novel with a promising mystery.
Blurb:
The blurb just peaks my curiosity and justifies the genre. It seeks to give more insight into the purpose of the title. I get to relate to the girl on the basis of confusion.
I also get a glimpse into the history behind the girl and boy which makes me want to know the things that could happen now that they met each other again.
Plot:
The pages to the lives of both characters are opened. Gabriella and all things the reader has to know about her is unraveled in each chapter. This leads to the discovery of other important characters and their roles, especially those wielding secrets. The same thing applies to Leander.
Through dialogue, narration and alternating points of view, the reader receives understanding and the plot is further solidified. I wanted to know how all the ignorance and secrecy surrounding the main characters would work into the plot as it progresses.
Grammar:
There aren't many grammatical and typographical errors and the spacing and paragraphing is acceptable. You should mind your punctuations and capitalisation though.
There is something about your descriptions which I have to point out.
The best way to avoid clichés is by using the classic words or simple synonyms of those words. Many writers in their attempt to avoid clichés end up creating their own hence, the words "orbs" and "crashing into a hard wall" all over wattpad making actual words rather underused.
You would want to avoid such forms of descriptions if you want your book to seen as unique.
Characters:
Gabriella seems highly affected by her past, unlike Leander, who doesn't even remember. It seems like other characters are trying to hide some form of truth from both of them. This really made me want to know how long they could keep hiding the full truth now that the main characters had found each other.
Generally:
Your book seems like there are some knots to be untied and realisations to be made. I'm interested to see how it all plays out!
