I'm so sorry for the long wait spelunkadunk ! Thanks for being so patient in letting me review "The Claimed: Rashika's Resistance"!
Cover:
I like that the cover is able to look simple yet sophisticated at the same time. The resistance is well portrayed by the crowd and their stance while holding the flags is a clear indication of their rebellion. The colors used are suitable for the monarchical system established in the novel and the fonts are nearly on point.
Now I say nearly because I think the "RASHIKA'S RESISTANCE" and your name at the bottom should have different font styles instead. The font used is not really visible enough. I think maybe a font with thicker words.
Blurb:
I must say that the blurb makes it easy for one to be riveted in the novel. It states what exactly Epsa is meant to do and the reason for doing it but it's interesting to find out how things do not seem to be as they are and how it not only distorts Epsa's mission but herself as a whole. Any reader would be willing to find out whether Epsa is truly going to go for side she thought she knew or this foreign, yet seemingly right side of truth.
Even though most people believe ending blurbs with questions are somewhat clichés and spoilers, I still think they only become so depending on how one asks the questions.
I therefore suggest that the latter part of the blurb be framed into a question, for eg. "Embroiled in a dangerous game of politics, would Epsa make the right decision on whom to trust? Whom to protect?
Whom to kill?"
It's your choice though.
Plot:
The story begins with a level of tragedy followed by some really captivating mystery. The effects of this childhood trauma is revealed in the current traits of Epsa, the main character. It's nice to see, however, that it makes her stronger to some extent. The plot is well-endowed with rich culture. It's quite interesting to see the switch Epsa makes in her beliefs and level of commitment to a side she had been with for so long and I was worried about what would happen when she was found out.
Characters:
Izra and Epsa seem to have vulnerable traits hidden beneath their tough exteriors which look like they'll unravel out of each other.
I hate and sorry for King Makapu at the same time with what is coming or should come to him.
Generally,
Your novel certainly has all the elements to make it a must read. And I'm not just saying that because this is my last review!
Thanks so much for requesting! Don't forget to check out "The Claimed: Rashika's Resistance" by spelunkadunk !
