Journal Entry 1,097- On The Road

So let me catch you up. This guy- Murphy- got the cure for the zombie bite and now we have to get him and this military dude to another group at a high school. We picked up three other people from Camp Blue Sky to come with us. Everyone else is dead, this is the reason I didn't socialize with them. I knew their names. Addie, Mack, and Doc. None of them knew of Blix yet, since she was under a tarp hiding from the heat. I should probably tell them so they don't freak when she gets out. I'll tell them. See you later journal.

I closed the book and turned to Addie and Mack. Addie was leaning against Mack who was watching zombies pass. I leaned my head on the window of the truck and tried to sleep. It's hard to sleep when the truck screeches to a halt and you go flying though. I landed on my back on the opposite side of the bed that Mack and Addie were on.

I was glad Blix didn't go flying into them. Everyone got out at what looked like a high school. A very run down one. There were dead bodies scattered about and Zs trapped under fallen mesh fences. I scrambled to get off the side of the truck without falling and twisting my ankle again. I whistled and Blix's tarp flew off. She leapt over to the side and grabbed my shirt with her teeth. Blix lowered me to the ground and then jumped down beside me.

I walked past Garnett and the military dude. The guy tried to give me orders as I walked past but Blix snarled at him and he shut up. I started looking around and saw a cool gun on the roof. I pointed at it to Blix and we started climbing, her being my spotter. I climbed the last few inches and hauled myself up onto the roof. I looked over to where the gun was and saw a boy and a girl, both looking around 16 maybe. I scrambled backwards to the edge and Blix poked her head over to make sure I was okay. I noticed her claws slide out and she started growling. I stroked her head to calm her down. It didn't work. The boy had a gun pointed at her and the girl had a knife threateningly close To my face.

"If you'd stop waving those in our faces like weapon wielding weirdos maybe she'd calm down." I turned to Blix and said, "Blix don't get your tail in a twist and your fur in a bristle. These mousebrains aren't worth it. Let's go."

We climbed back down to the group, leaving the couple of strangers confused. I climbed back into the truck to take a nap since there isn't much else to do.

I was asleep for no longer than five minutes before I was hit in the gut with a bag of something. I heard it rattle like beads or something. I cracked open one eye and looked at the bag. I shot straight up at the sight of candy. Addie was standing at the side of the truck. "Found a baby. Doc almost died. Found a girl. Baby is dead. Military dude is dead too. We are now in contact-" she paused to haul herself into the truck. "With some guy named Citizen Z. Also I found you a bag of candy."

"Thanks. And how long was I asleep? It felt like five minutes! So much happened."

"Heh, yeah. It was only five minutes." She helped Mack climb in. I started eating the candy, tossing some to Addie and Mack as I ate.

"Hey hey! Kids! Your the sharp shooter who saved my ass, aren't you?" The tall boy nodded at Doc's words. "Need a ride?" The girl nodded gratefully and climbed in first helping the boy with his stuff.

The girl sat next to me and the boy sat on the edge of the truck next to her. I hit the truck as we started moving. "Doc hold up! Blix is still over there." He stopped the truck and I called for my leopard.

"Is Blix a dog orrrrr-" The girl's eyes went wide when Blix leapt onto the edge of the truck by Addie. Blix stalked along the edge and leapt onto the roof to sit. I stroked her tail and she started purring. The purrs made the metal of the car shake. "Wow. Um. Nice, cat? I'm Meg." She held out a hand. I took her hand and pointed to the now frightened boy.  "Oh, don't mind 10k. He hasn't had much luck with cats the past few days." She chuckled.

"Cats don't like me." He quickly squeaked.

"We met a cat I named Jay and it kinda almost clawed his eyes out." Addie started laughing with Meg.

"Blix almost tore off my leg when I met her. I gave her jerky and she forgave me for disturbing her." I told her. We continued to talk for a while before we had to stop again.
