Prompt: Begin your story with "It wasn't my fault." Warning: Slight foul language
"It wasn't my fault."
I took deep breaths and paced around my room.
"It wasn't my fault."
I repeated this process, but to no avail, I slumped back down to my chair and screamed, "IT'S MY FAULT!"
I had driven him to think of suicide. I had pressurised and suspected him till he decided to attempt to. The end of the story. What else?
My reputation had dived then. The suspect had still lain in the hospital for weeks since then. Every day I wake up, I look down my balcony, and all I see are reporters trying to get into the building.
Lucky for me, there are online news reports, so I didn't have to go down to take the newspaper in my mailbox. But all it had talked about was shit about me, and I would say, it wasn't the least bit pleasant. Though, it had touched me my colleagues had tried to clear my name.
The noise from the reporters drove me mad, and the food in my apartment had been dwindling. I had managed to sneak out from the back exit of the building a few times, but the reporters had found out. Someday, I would have to leave this apartment to get food or I would slowly wither and starve to death.
Maybe the only way to solve this was to quit that job of mine. Though I would leave my dream job, I would at least have the rest of my life experiencing peace. Rather than waking up to the incessant noise of the reporters.
I decided to go back to sleep with my headphones on, with soothing music on, hoping it'll lull me to sleep.

I awoke to the sound of my phone buzzing against the table. It had been one of my colleagues.
"Hello?"
"Yoooo! I've got good news; the suspect woke up. He wants to talk to you."
"Why? He probably just wants me to die right now."
"No no! He wants you to solve this case for him."
Just then, I realised the noise from the reporters hadn't been there.

Today's dedication is slightly special. This story is dedicated to my loyal readers who used to read and comment on my unpublished Magic Kaito series. To be honest, I never thought that series of mine would get reads but wow, the first book got about 6k reads while the second one got about 4k reads.
And if any of you are reading this, I would like to present you with the possibility that I might rewrite a new Magic Kaito book :))
