A Devastating Truth
When Marik woke up, he noticed that Atem was gone. He got out of bed groggily and walked out into the living room. Nobody was there either.
Where could they be? Marik thought and looked out a window.
There were two solid gold chariots made standing outside with two black stallions fastened to one. Atem was already in the one with the black stallions, holding the reigns. Bakura was pulling two chocolate stallions toward the second chariot and fastened them to it.
"We should go wake up Marik," Atem said to Bakura. "We'll be leaving in a little while and we wouldn't want to leave him behind."
Bakura nodded his head and said, "I shall get him my Pharaoh." Atem nodded and Bakura walked toward the house.
Marik ran towards the hall in a frenzy. He ruffled up his hair, so it would look as if he'd just woken up. He apologized to his hair silently, I'm so sorry hair. I never thought I'd have to do this to you but it's so I won't get in trouble.
There were footsteps on the cold limestone floor that gradually grew louder. Bakura appeared in the hallway where Marik stood.
"There you are, I came to get you but it seems you're already awake." Bakura said, his tone was sinister yet full of glee for some reason.
"Yeah," Marik did a fake yawn and stretched. "I'll be out in a few minutes, don't leave without me."
"We wouldn't want that to happen now would we?" Bakura muttered and left.
After he left, Marik narrowed his eyes at him. He's up to something, he thought. He walked back into the room and began to straighten his hair up. Marik took great care of his hair, well, who didn't? His hair mattered to him a lot, it was one of his most prized possessions. It took about 15 minutes for Marik to get it into place as he wanted.
After he finished, he went outside and as soon as he came out, Atem and Bakura were already in the two chariots. Atem in the one with the black stallions and Bakura with the two chocolate stallions. "What took you so long?" Atem asked.
"I thought I'd... um found something..." Marik lied. He knew Atem would be annoyed with him if he found out that he took all that time to think, sleep, and put his hair in the precise way he wanted it to be.
"Like what?" Bakura sprang into the conversation.
"Oh, um..." He paused trying to think of something. An idea burst into his head after a few seconds of silence. "Like a Millennium Item! But I was wrong, it was just a... erm," He paused again. Another few seconds passed and Marik said, "a statue! That's what it was."
Atem and Bakura looked at him strangely. "Alright then," Atem said and nodded, convinced. "Are you ready to go?"
Marik nodded and jumped on to the same chariot that Atem was on. Atem and Bakura flicked the reigns and they sped off towards the Pharaoh's palace and passed through countless towns. All the citizens recognized their beloved, new Pharaoh and bowed before them as they passed through like lightning.
It was Atem's first time driving a chariot, and he drove extremely well. Bakura pulled his chariot over closer to their's.
"You're driving wonderfully, and it's your first time Atem." Bakura called out as they rode.
Atem grinned and nodded. "It's like an instinct!" He called back.
Marik crossed his arms and looked down at his feet in the golden chariot. I know what he's up to, he's trying to gain the Pharaoh's trust bit by bit. It'll kill Atem if he trusts him even a pinch!
They arrived at the palace two hours later. Bakura was the first to arrive and get off. He walked up the neat white stairs and stopped in front of the golden, limestone double doors.
The palace itself was the color of solid gold, it was made of large limestone blocks and was very colossal from all views. The limestone double doors were the entrance into the interior of the palace and the doors were gigantic. It was basically a gigantic chunk of limestone that was cut into two pieces with hieroglyphics etched into it. There were multiple guards posted outside with either swords, spears, or bows and arrows as weapons. As soon as they saw Atem, they bowed immediatly.
Atem got off the chariot with Marik following behind. Bakura clapped his hands and servants appeared and took the two chariots and four stallions to the stables at the back of the palace.
Bakura stood in front of the limestone double doors and waited for Atem and Marik who were climbing up the white steps.
When they reached they top, Bakura began. "All this,"the doors creaked open behind Bakura. His arms were raised for emphasis, "is yours Atem."
Atem's eyes widened in astonishment; Marik looked at him puzzled.
Bakura's voice sounded sorrowful, "yes Atem, they have passed on to the Afterlife. Your parents are dead.
