Chapter 15
"I hope you learned from your detention, (Y/n)," her mother told her. "You gave your father and I a good scare. It won't happen again, right?"
(Y/n) nodded, defeated. The day after the incident in the hall, she had been given her first detention. It had been silent, and incredibly boring. At least she had brought homework from her morning class.
Sure, (Y/n) felt bad for scaring her parents. But there was no regrets when it came to Yugi. And maybe Anzu, she thought. But there's no way she'd believe me now.
I'm all on my own.
Gazing into her mother's eyes, (Y/n) nodded obediently. "I promise," she answered. Her mother stared at her for what felt like forever before she moved on to make dinner.
"Can you check the mailbox while you're up, (Y/n)?" She asked. "I meant to check it when I got home, but I forgot."
"Sure," (Y/n) replied lightheartedly. Slipping on her shoes, she stepped outside. The skies were cloudy, grey and miserable. The girl's eyes darted all around. Is this what paranoia feels like? She wondered at the back of her mind.
Underneath her mailbox sat a brown cardboard package. (Y/n) was curious and wary. That better be for mom or dad, she thought worriedly.
Unfortunately, that was not the case. A quick glance at the package told (Y/n) that it was for her.
Strangely enough, the package had no return address. It had been blacked out with a marker. Even better, she thought sarcastically.
After grabbing the abundance of envelopes shoved in her mailbox along with the package, (Y/n) bolted for the door. Just in case.
"Here's your mail," she said as she dropped the envelopes onto the kitchen table. (Y/n) grabbed a nearby pair of scissors and began carrying the parcel up to her room.
The inside of (Y/n)'s room had become a literal nightmare. Notes upon notes had been scattered throughout her room. Some were diagrams, newspaper cutouts, and just general theories about Yami, why he existed, and how she could, well...
Take him out. For good.
He is a work of the devil, no doubt about it.
Shoving some notes aside, (Y/n) placed the package on the floor. Using her scissors, she cut the tape sealing the box shut. When she opened the box, the top of the box contained a letter.
Dear (Y/n),
We've been watching you for quite a while now. I must say, you are truly an extraordinary case.
You are very different from your friends. You're able to see the truth about the situation, to break it down and disassemble the pieces. To understand why things are the way they are.
To put it simply, I know your little secret. I've seen how skittish you can be around the Yugi Muto. He really scares you, huh?
Stop.
But that's the thing; it's not really Yugi you're afraid of. It's that other Yugi, isn't it?
How. I never told anyone.
I understand why you're afraid, (Y/n). I know just how brutal he is. I know this because I am one of the victims of his terrible games.
Hold up.
You've met him. You've actually played a game with him.
(Y/n)'s eyes lit up with interest as she kept on reading.
He punished me terribly. I played our game fairly, and he punished me because I did something that he didn't like. He made me hallucinate terrible monsters, (Y/n). Bloodthirsty beasts that were prepared to rip me into shreds.
But that doesn't have to happen to you. If you have the courage, you can stop this madman once and for all. And I will do everything I can to help you.
(Y/n) gawked at the letter. Someone actually took her side in the matter?
I have already determined that you are the perfect person for this case. If you are curious, I was the one who sent the person to cut your electrical wires. I wanted to test you. To see how you'd react.
If you're truly scared of the Other Yugi, then now is the chance to overcome your fear. Next week, there will be a school dance. Inclosed in this package is what you'll need to defeat this tyrant once and for all, to show him that you will not cower in fear.
As long as you don't reveal me as the person who told you this, then I will remain your ally.
Sincerely, Seto Kaiba, CEO of Kaiba Corporations
(Y/n) didn't care about who sent the letter, even if he was this big and important CEO. All that mattered now was taking out Yami.
Digging through the package, she found her weapon. Her source of victory.
It was a box of matches.
