Chapter 14

(Y/n) contemplated pretending to be sick. But then, she reconsidered. Another incident might occur.

So she went to school, careful to lay low. Every time she saw Yugi, she hid behind a wall, or slipped into a nearby bathroom. (Y/n) hated the idea of having to hide from the innocent boy.

He did nothing wrong, and now has to pay for the actions of Yami.

For most of the day, her plan surprisingly worked. Only Miho had approached (Y/n), chattering as if nothing had occurred. But eventually, Honda had stepped in.

"I don't know if she's interested in talking right now, Miho," he had whispered into her ear. Miho has started to protest, but gave up and walked away, her eyes sad.

Eventually, the school day came to an end. (Y/n) went to put her books in her locker and fetch her bags. It was then that Anzu had approached her.

"(Y/n)," she murmured lightly. "I think we need to talk,"

"Well-," before (Y/n) could respond, she saw that Yugi was standing beside Anzu, looking concerned.

Oh fuck.

"I don't feel like it," she whispered eerily, pretending like nothing happened. "I've got a lot of homework to do tonight, and I haven't had a good weekend. I just need some alone time, and I'll be fine soon enough,"

"Are you sure it isn't more than that?" Yugi murmured. "You have been acting strange lately."

Stop it.

"I said I don't want to talk," (Y/n) said again, her voice firm.

Anzu placed a reassuring hand on her best friend's shoulder. "We're here for you, if you ever need to talk,"

"Yeah!" Yugi piped up. "That's the whole point of friends. To have someone that you can confide in. To have someone you trust..."

Trust.

Something that is always broken in a matter of time.

"... and someone you care about!"

Care.

Something that doesn't exist.

Not in this cruel, cruel, broken world.

In a quick spur of action that seemingly came out of no where, (Y/n) violently shoved Yugi away. The small boy fell back, landing on the floor.

"(Y/n)! What in the name of god was that?!" Anzu gasped, shocked and angry.

(Y/n) stood over Yugi's frightened, fragile body. Her eyes seemed empty.

Broken.

Soulless.

She pointed a shaking, accusing finger at him. (Y/n) begged her voice to speak. And when it did, it was astonishing words that the girl had never dreamed of saying to anyone, let  alone a friend.

"Don't you bring that up," she breathed coolly. "You don't deserve to call me your friend. Not after this. Not after this weekend."

Yugi lay on the floor, shaking and nearly speechless. "... (Y-y/n)..." he said, voice quivering.

Anzu grabbed (Y/n)'s arm. "How could you do this to Yugi? Your friend!" She demanded. Although she was furious, her eyes still held concern for her best friend.

Without hesitation, (Y/n) shoved Anzu away towards a nearby locker bank. Without looking to see the damage, (Y/n) burst into a run. She ran as fast as her legs would let her.

I will not let that killer catch me, she told herself.

As she ran, (Y/n)'s breath grew heavier and heavier. She opened and slammed her front door immediately, leaping up the stairs.

As soon as (Y/n) entered her room, she headed straight for her closet. She swung the door open, rummaging through her belongings until she found the notebook. Pulling it out, she grabbed a nearby pencil and furiously began scribbling words into it.

No going back now, she thought.

You betrayed my trust so carelessly. Let's see how you like it when I do the same thing.
