Chapter 10

(Y/n) turned around to see... Well, it's Yugi, but the Yugi who broke into her room that one night.

"W-why... Why are you here?!" She stuttered in confusion. "The windows are too high up and nothing is close enough for you to climb up. And I'd have heard you use to door..." (Y/n) stopped herself, puffing.

Yugi only smiled. "I had come here to see a friend, to see if she wanted some company," he spoke lightly.

Then his smile faded. His lips curled into a small frown, filled with what (Y/n) thought was disappointment. "But then I found this,"

Yugi held up the book (Y/n) been writing in. She gulped. Don't tell me he read it, don't tell me he read-

"Yes, I did read the words that you've written," he murmured. Yugi looked down on (Y/n), those red eyes lightly gleaming with the same disappointment that his lips had.

"My only question is... Why?" He asked. "Why are you wondering about me? Can't you trust that I'll do the right thing?"

(Y/n) looked away, feeling guilty. She knew she had been caught. I want to trust you, I really do!

But...

(Y/n)'s mind flashed to the people he had hurt. He had killed. All for his friends. To say the truth, (Y/n) didn't know what to say to this man who acted like they were the closest of friends.

But it was weird. At one point, she wanted to kick him out of her house. He had invaded her privacy, and acted like he hadn't offended her. But at the same time, she wanted to burst into tears, give some big, fancy apology, and maybe even share a hug if he didn't mind.

I know exactly what to do, (Y/n) thought. So, she went with option c:

She simply left the room, as if nothing had happened.

"(Y/n)? Where are you going?" Yugi called, following. You walked down the upstairs hallway. Swiftly, she entered the bathroom, closed and locked the door, and sighed.

"(Y/n)! All I wanted was an explanation!" Yugi explained outside the bathroom while she sat on the edge of the tub, his voice tinged with concern.

"You're not the only one," (Y/n) hints at him. For a while, she sat in the bathroom by herself, in complete silence. What else could she possibly do? I don't know, (Y/n) thought.

After a good while of silence, (Y/n) heard Yugi's voice.

"I don't know if you're interested, but I may or may not have found a box of cookies in your pantry," he admitted, almost sheepishly. She couldn't help but giggle at the uncertainty in his baritone voice. "So if you wanted to come out, we could talk this whole thing out properly...?"

Sighing, (Y/n) unlocked the door. Opening it, she saw ' Yugi ' standing in front of her. "Fine," she said with a straight face. Pointing one finger at him, (Y/n) continued. "But only because of the cookies,"

He let out a small chuckle. "Alright then," he responded before leading you downstairs.

~***~

God damn double-stuffed Oreos, (Y/n) thought in irritation. Why the hell must you be so delicious?

Both teens ate in silence for a few minutes. Every once and a while, he'd glance at the girl knowingly, as if he was expecting her to confess.

Finally, (Y/n) felt like she had to speak up. "I just don't understand," she began. "It's honourable in a way, defending your friends from those wretched people. But the method you use..."

She sighed, looking away from the other Yugi. "It isn't right. Hurting people is one thing, but killing them?! That could get you arrested! There are-"

"They think he accidentally set himself on fire," the other Yugi cut her off. (Y/n) looked up into his red eyes, startled. "What?" She replied breathily.

"You heard me. They have no idea that it was me," he got up, and brushed his fingers over (Y/n)'s left cheekbone. " Someone had to do something. That criminal was dangerous, (Y/n). He was on death row anyways, so the police wouldn't even care to much if he was killed by someone else," The other Yugi's voice became filled with grit, and his eyes seemed to darken with every word. "They knew very well he deserved to die."

(Y/n) grabbed the other Yugi's hand and removed it from her cheek. "I think you should go," she whispered. He looked like he was about to object, but instead he nodded solemnly. "I suppose you have a point," the other Yugi said, his posture softening.

"But at least promise me that you'll trust me?" He asked. You looked into his eyes sadly.

"I can only try," you murmur.

Then you blinked, and the other Yugi was gone.
