"MAYA!!!"

"Huh? What are you doing, shouting out of the blue?" He spat in an angry tone that soon turned into an evil grin. "Hahah, too bad no one's gonna save you. We're alone, in the middle of the night... No one will hear your screams, isn't that awesome?" He gave you a smug look, and at that moment you wanted to punch him on the face. "You humans, are pathetic. I'll avenge my fallen comrades, by killing your low species"

You gritted your teeth but remained quiet.

'Guess I'm gonna die here... Sorry mom, dad, (B/fs)...'

You closed your eyes and patiently waited for your inevitable death, but as seconds passed, it never came. Confused, you slowly opened your eyes, only to notice that the dragon boy wasn't looking at you. Instead, his gaze was locked on a specific direction.

"What--"

You immediately shut your mouth as soon as you heard it.

A howl.

"Tsk... Looks like I have to finish this quickly" the monster turned to look back at you and he grabbed your neck with his paw. You struggled, starting to feel dizzy due to the lack of oxygen.

However, that feeling was gone in a blink of an eye.

The hybrid was now pinned down on the floor, and on top of him, a big black wolf with yellow eyes whose claws were pressed on his shoulders, drawing a bit of blood.

The dragon tried to get away from her grasp by biting their leg, they whimpered but they soon reacted and managed to make him stop biting them.

"Grragh, why are you helping a human? You... You are a traitor, I'll crush you!" The dragon attempted to scratch the wolf, but the latter one managed to dodge in time.

You were too shocked to speak, so you just stayed there, sitting down against the wall. Then, the wolf bit his neck hard and a 'crack' was heard. You involuntarily looked away, feeling a bit uncomfortable at that gruesome sight.

Your saviour slowly walked towards you and you hid between your arms and knees, thinking that they were going to attack you as well.

However, all your fears disappeared when you felt something wet on your right hand. You looked up at the wolf and noticed that they were licking you.

'Isn't that a good sign?'

A little smile made its way to your face as you started petting the animal on the head. The 'beast' closed their eyes and it looked like they were enjoying it.

"Thank you" you whispered, despite knowing that the animal wasn't going to answer anyway.

The black wolf was now looking at you with those yellow eyes, and suddenly, they tackled you making you fall down on the floor.

"Hey!" You tried to get serious but you couldn't as the canine started licking your face affectionately and it tickled you. "Heheh... S-Stop"

You two continued like that until you a familiar voice near.

"Maya!! (Y/N)!!" It was Konoha's voice.

"They're very close, I can smell them" Another voice said, now it was Hannah's.

The footsteps were getting closer and closer until the three girls were standing at the beginning of the alleyway and you saw them.

"There they are" Sasha said. She was the first one to reach your position as she moved at an incredible speed.

"Are you okay? We felt another supernatural presenc--" she trailed off when she saw the dragon's corpse that was laying on the floor "I see... Very well. Now, are you hurt?" She asked "I can smell blood..." Her eyes widened slightly when she saw the wolf's leg.

You quickly looked at their leg and noticed it. You almost forgot about that fight, and when that stupid lizzard bit their leg...

"That monster lizard bit them on the leg before..." You told her.

"'Them'? You mean 'she', right?" Sasha asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Is she a female?" You asked back.

Sasha sighed, resisting the urge to facepalm.

Even the wolf seemed a bit disappointed as she looked down and shook her head.

Before you could even argue, the animal took a step back and closed her eyes. Suddenly, a light engulfed her body as it started to grow.

You covered your eyes with your arm due to the blinding light, and once it was gone and you looked, what you saw made you open your mouth in awe.

There, where the wolf used to be, stood Maya, her clothes were a bit torn and her right left arm was bleeding. Her eyes were still yellow, but they slowly turned back to being blue. She sighed as she held her wound carefully.

"That damn walking lizard... I should've kicked his butt before killing him" she muttered with a expression that showed pain.

"Maya?? You... The wolf... What?!" You uttered, too surprised to make sense.

"I don't blame you, since we haven't told you before... But yeah, I'm a werewolf" she confessed.

"Are you telling me monsters exist? Or maybe I've hit my head hard and fell unconscious and now I'm seeing hallucinations..?" You started to speak fast.

You couldn't believe it, yet for some reason, the idea didn't sound too crazy now.

"Of course we exist, but... We don't call ourselves monsters, that's just rude" Konoha said, having just arrived with Hannah and having being able to keep up with your conversation.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you..." you sighed.

"Aren't there people like us in your world?" Hannah asked, as curious as ever.

"No way... Werewolves and dragons only appear in fairy tales and legends, they don't exist... I think" you said that last part unsure as you began to doubt your own words. You glanced at Maya's untreated wound and you quickly went to her.

"Maya... Will you be fine? We gotta treat her wound immediately!"

"Calm down... It's okay, this is just a scratch. It will heal soon, so don't worry about me" she forced a little smirk but you knew that she was trying to hide her pain.

"No" you turned to look at the other girls "Is there a hospital nearby? Or a house..?" You asked them.

"We live together in a mansion, but it is a bit far away" Konoha said as she let out a sigh.

"We should go to my house then. We will get there in ten minutes maximum" Sasha suggested. "Besides... It is quite late, and I am sure that the mortal girl needs to rest" she added glancing at you.

"Let's go then"

Konoha, Hannah and Sasha set off.

"Maya... Want me to carry you?"

"W-Wha..? I said I'm fine, I can walk properly you kno--"

You ignored her and lifted her body with ease. Afterwards, you followed the girls as you carried the injured werewolf.

"Jeez... You never listen to me" Maya mumbled with a faint blush as she carefully rested her chin on your shoulder, causing you to giggle softly.

Seven minutes later, you arrived at Sasha's house, which was a small one, but it looked comfortable inside.

"I didn't know you had a house here" Konoha said as she looked around the place.

"Time to explore" Hannah said with a little smile, just before she left to investigate the place.

You chuckled at her childish yet cute behaviour.

"That's because I've never told anyone before, but I have... A few houses around Vexlord" Sasha confessed, earning an amazed look from you and Konoha uttered a 'cool'.

"A few houses?? You must be rich then" you said.

Sasha shrugged. "Sort of"

"Uh... Can I walk by myself now?" Maya asked you with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh! Yeah, sorry" you laughed nervously since you had forgotten that you were carrying her. You carefully left her back on the ground.

"Thanks..."

"This way" Sasha gestured you to get inside a room, and so you did.

It was a more or less big bedroom, with an even bigger bed in the middle. Sasha told Maya to lie down on the bed.

"Fine..." She reluctantly obliged. "But don't you dare feel pity towards me, I'm stronger than this, okay?" she mumbled in a slightly embarrassed tone.

Sasha just chuckled as she went on to check her arm. "I would never underestimate my dear rival, do I look that careless to you?" She said in her usual calm demeanour, but behind that expression, you saw the glint of an arrogant smirk.

You unconsciously gulped, feeling an aura of superiority around the young white-haired girl.

"Why are you rivals?" You asked, feeling extremely curious.

Konoha then stepped in. "May I answer your question?" She spoke playfully, earning a smile from you. "Of course, you may" you said.

"Okay, so this girl here who looks a bit intimidating at first is Malcom's cousin. They both come from a royal lineage of vampires, the Bloodrivers. And that tsundere over there is a Darkwood, a well-known clan of werewolves. Basically, their families have been enemies for centuries... So it's in their blood" the pinkette explained.

"That explains a lot" you said. "Werewolves and vampires? Wow... Don't tell me you and Hannah are ghosts or something like that" you

Konoha giggled and the other two girls stared weirdly at you.

"If you mean spirits, then yes, they do exist. But no, we are not spirits" Konoha answered.

"Then--" you were about to ask again until something or more like someone jumped at you from behind, causing you to shriek. The girls were now laughing at you —even Sasha was trying to suppress a laugh—, you turned around immediately, only to find a certain blonde grinning at you with a sleepy expression.

"Hey" she simply said as she was now clinging onto your back.

"Heck, do you want to kill me so badly?" You sighed. After a talk about ghosts and spirits, it came as no surprise that Hannah had managed to scare you like that. "And stop laughing at me... That wasn't funny" you glared at the other girls.

"Sorry sorry..." Kokoha said as she tried to stop laughing. Sasha looked away, but you could see that she was still smiling, and Maya gave you a teasing smirk. "Oh, but it was funny" she said.

You rolled your eyes.

Thankfully, after a few minutes, they had finally calmed down. You looked at Konoha and Hannah with your arms crossed.

"You didn't tell me what kind of creatures you are"

"Right. I'm a guardian of the Sky, follower of God, protector of humans... I'm an angel" she confessed.

"Awesome. So I assume demons also exist in this world..?"

"They do. In fact, our friend Akane is one! But she's a 'friendly' one, if you know what I mean... I'm sure she'd be willing to be friends with you!" Konoha added.

You opened your mouth, about to say something.

"And before you ask, yes, there are 'good' demons and 'bad' angels as well" Sasha added as she continued treating Maya's wound. The werewolf gritting her teeth as she looked away.

"Oh" you looked at the vampire with a surprised expression.

'Can vampires read other people's mind?'

"And no, I do not have telepathic powers. You are just easy to read, that is all" Sasha spoke again. The vampire had finished to put a bandage around the wolf girl's arm.

Your eyes widened. "Please, stop doing that... It's freaking me out"

Sasha shrugged. "Okay, done" she said to Maya, and the latter one moved her arm a bit. "Thanks", mumbled the dark-haired girl.

You then turned to look at the blonde girl. "And what about you, Hannah?"

"I'm a kitsune!" She said proudly, you gave her an interest look. "I used to live in a temple, where humans prayed and gave me offerings as they put their faith on me" she explained briefly.

"Werewolves, vampires, ghosts, angels, demons, kitsunes... This is crazy" you muttered to yourself. Suddenly, a thought crossed your mind and you decided to make a last question. "And one last thing... Is everyone in Vexlord...?"

Maya was the fastest one to reply. "No. The major part of the inhabitants are humans, and some of them are already aware of our existence, and don't seem to mind. However..." Her expression became a serious and gloomy one and you couldn't help but look at her with worry.

Sasha was the one who continued the explanation.

"Recently, there have been some conflicts all around the country. Fortunately, Vexlord is one of few exceptions..." She sighed before she kept on talking "The population has been divided in two sides: the 'Antropo' side, mostly formed by humans who are against supernatural beings and fight against our species in order to erradicate our existence. And the 'Mythest' side, all the mytical creatures who want humans to disappear"

Then, it was Konoha's turn to speak.

"We, on the other hand, think that creating a war against both species would be pointless. Neither of them would win, since both sides would suffer huge losses. A lot of people will die in the battlefield, all thanks to some ridiculous radical groups"

"Exactly. We haven't told anyone in Vexlord about our true nature, in order to avoid problems. Some humans can be... Quite intolerant" Hannah added.

You had a thoughtful expression, trying to piece things together. That was a lot of important information in a short period or time, so you had to concentrate to keep up with what they were talking about.

"So, the monster lizard that attacked me..." Your eyes widened in realisation.

"Yeah, he was probably a Mythest soldier, or at least, he was in line with their radical beliefs" Maya said.

"Such a young boy... He didn't deserve to get involve in all this" you clenched your fists, feeling very angered. "Correct me if I'm mistaken, but this war... It has something to do with the ones in charge of the Capital, right?"

"You are very observant. Indeed, we believe that our rulers have come up with a drastic measure... That is, if there is an outbreak of war, people with low social status will fight between themselves, resulting in a decline in population" Sasha said.

With your gaze locked on the floor, you came to realisation... And the truth annoyed you to no end.

"And less 'poor' people in the country means... More money for the rich"

Woow, that was long asff... In fact, the longest one so far (2526 words). I'll probably make it shorter next time~

No choices this time, since it was a very dense chapter. So yeah, apart from future romantic situations and fluff 'fillers', there will be a serious plot, just to try making things more interesting.

I'll try to update soon, but it will probably take me a while so I'd rather not promise anything...
