Zoethian ~ The Feeling Of Colors

Alright, I have finally done it! I've come up with what I think is an amazing Zoethian (which is my Yog-OTP, by the way) one-shot I believe a lot of people should enjoy! Then again, you may have no idea what I'm talking about, or who I am talking about, but whatever! I just hope you enjoy it, whoever you may be!

------------------------------------------------------------------

We watched the sun set off in the distance, sinking slowly under the horizon. I leaned back on my hands, relaxing as we enjoyed the bright colors in silence. Well, as she enjoyed all of the bright colors, and I enjoyed most of them.

"Isn't it so beautiful, Rythian? I wish this moment could last forever, so we can bask in the sun's glow for eternity," Zoey said from beside me, breaking the silence. I considered her wish for a moment, then responded with, "Yes, it it a beautiful sight. Yet, I'm glad it doesn't last forever, I wouldn't find much joy in that, I must admit."

"What?" she asked, sounding astonished. I looked over at her to see her gaze on me. "So, you mean to tell me that you don't enjoy all the bright colors of a sunset, or sunrise for that matter? All the oranges and reds and yellows?" The look she was giving me told me that she thought I was insane right now. Well, I have been keeping this a secret from her for this long, I may as well tell her the truth now.

"Well, I do love all the colors of sunrises and sunsets, and of nature, as well. I just don't have the... capability to see all of the colors, that's all," I said, choosing my words carefully. But, I knew that if I just blatantly told her or sugarcoated it, she wouldn't take the news easily.

"What?!" she exclaimed so loudly, causing me flinched a bit. "You're telling me that you're colorblind?!"

"Well, partly, yes," I said a bit sheepishly. "I can't see the colors red or green." It felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders as I spoke. I was happy to have gotten one secret off my chest, no matter how small a one.

"Oh my gosh, why didn't you tell me?" she asked. She was treating my colorblindness as though it was a life-threatening disease. It kind of annoyed me, but I still loved all of her annoying little quarks.

"I didn't think that it was important," I said, turning back to look at the horizon. "Besides, I've learned to differentiate the colors by what shade of gray they are. Really dark grays are red and lighter grays are green." I looked back at her. "For example, your hair is red, but all I can see is a dark gray." I picked up one of her red curls and twirled it around my finger for a second. She took her hair into her hands and examined it closely, as though there was some kind of clue hidden in it. I chuckled at her and she looked back up at me. "So, you've never seen the colors red and green before in your life?" she said a bit quietly.

"Nope," I said, watching the last of the sun disappear under the horizon. "And it doesn't really bother me, honestly." She didn't reply. I looked over and didn't see her there. I frowned, looking all around for her. Then, from inside the house, I heard her voice say, "I'm going to bed! Don't stay up too late!" I smiled to myself and called back, "Okay, I'll be down in a minute!" I cast my gaze over the mostly gray landscape. I was afraid this would be her reaction. At least I didn't have to tell her any more of my secrets.

I turned around and entered the house through what Zoey called the "mage tower". I walked into our bedroom and saw that Zoey was already lying down on her side of the big bed. A small smile made its way onto my face as I crawled under the covers and laid down with my back to her. "Good night, Zoey," I said to her. It was part of our nightly routine, I guess, that we always told each other good night. Plus, it was just common courtesy.

"Good night, Rythian. Sweet dreams," she mumbled, sounding extremely tired. As I closed my eyes, I had to restrain myself from telling her that I almost never had any good dreams. But, I didn't need her worrying about me that much.

                                        *     *     *     *     *

"Rythian, get up! Rythian, I have something to show you, get up!" Zoey yelled, jumping up and down on the bed. I groaned and hid my head under my pillow. "Five more minutes," I mumbled into the pillow.

"Nope, you're getting up now! I have something for you!" she said, continuingly jumping on the bed. I sighed and removed to pillow from over my head. I sat up and said, "Okay, okay, I'm up, I'm up! You can stop jumping on the bed now!" She bounced into a sitting position and smiled at me. "Now, what did you need to show me?"

"Come on, I have to show you outside!" she said. She grabbed me by the hand and pulled me out of bed. I stumbled after her as she led me down a flight of stairs and outside through the front door. She finally stopped a few feet away from the door. She looked back at me, still smiling her smile and only slightly out of breath. "Okay, what did you need to show me?" I asked again.

"I came up with a way for you to see red and green! Well, not necessarily see them, but feel them!" she said excitedly. I gave her a strange look. "Feel colors? Well, that's a new one," I muttered.

"Yep! Okay, let's get started!" She turned around and picked something up. When she spun back around, I saw that she was holding the nature ring I had made her so long ago. She didn't wear it because the grass would grow up tall around her if she was standing on dirt, and she knew how much I hated grass. But, she was also holding a handful of dirt in her free hand, which I found interesting. She said, "Okay, let's start with the color green. It symbolizes growth, as well as harmony. Here, take this." I opened up my hands and she put the dirt in them. She then put on the ring and opened her palm above the dirt in my hands. It started to glow green, or what I thought was green, and a small stem burst from the dirt. It grew right before our eyes until it bloomed into a beautiful white lily. I smiled at it, then looked up at Zoey. I picked the flower from the dirt and stuck it behind her ear. She smiled at me and we just stood there for a moment in silence, smiling at one another.

Then, Zoey broke away from my gaze and as she turned back around, I spilled the dirt from my hands. When I looked back up at her, she was holding a bunch of gold. Where she got them, I did not know, but I let her carry on without questioning her. "But, dark green can symbolize greed." She handed me the gold ingots and I took them from her. Then, she said in a deep voice, "Hey, give me all your money, punk!" She snatched back all the gold from my hands and she couldn't help but start craking up. I started laughing with her, and said, "Amazing voice, Zoey." She just giggled, and I felt my insides flip. I loved it when she did her cute little giggle, and I tried to make her laugh as much as I could because I just loved to hear it. Then, a question came to mind.

"What about red? What does that symbolize?" I asked her, genuinely curious. I was having fun doing this with her, and, plus, it was allowing me to partly understand what the colors I couldn't see meant. I guess I was feeling colors after all.

"Well, that one is a bit more difficult to display to you," she said, her smile fading a bit. "It can symbolize war, danger, strength, and power, but also blood." She turned over her wrist and flipped out a knife. "Zoey, no!" I said, but I was too late. She cut a line in her skin and cringed as a flow of blood came from it. I took her wrist in my hands and looked at the tiny wound. "You didn't need to do that, I've seen blood before," I mumbled, looking up at her. She just shrugged like it wasn't a big deal. But, it was a big deal to me. I didn't ever want to see her hurt, never in a million years, even if it was just a scratch. I let go of her wrist and she went over to the shoreline, washing the blood away in the water. After a moment she came back over to me and smiled up at me. Then, she suddenly looked away, as though embarrassed. I frowned and asked, "What's the matter?"

"Well, red can symbolize one other thing...," she trailed off, still looking down at the ground. Just as I was about to ask what, she did something that completely threw me off guard.

She kissed me. She got up on her tip toes, put her hands on my shoulders, and kissed me. I was surprised at first, even startled, but I quickly and easily began to kiss her back. I closed my eyes and wrapped my arms around her. We stayed that way for a long time, but how long exactly, I did not know, nor did I care to know. When we came up for air, I opened my eyes and looked into her magnificent, bright blue ones. She looked so happy. "Love," she whispered. "Red can stand for love." She gave me a soft smile and rested her head on my chest. I put my chin on top of her head and ran my fingers through her hair.

I think I found my new favorite color.

OH MY GOSH, I GAVE MYSELF THE FEELS!

By the by, Rythian is actually red/green colorblind irl, and me and a friend were talking about it when I got the idea for this one-shot. And, needless to say, I'm pretty sure it was really good. Anyway, a vote or comment would be much appreciated, and I love you all! Galaxy out, peace! Enjoy the feels! <3
