#1: It happened so fast. A new virus was discovered and despite it being resolvable like the flu or COVID-19, it only continued to spread and corrupt. The virus made people change.  It would almost seem to destroy whatever bit of humanity they had left and turn them to bloodthirsty monsters who only seemed out to infest and corrupt more people. It was a harsh reality but it was one you were forced to adjust to. Your group had been split up into a multitude of smaller groups and you had been unsuccessful in finding the rest of your friends. One of these friends was (crush). You didn't know if they were okay, or if they had been infected. You could only hope they found somewhere safe and were strong enough to last this long. Traveling along with (friend 1) and (friend 2) you were on the hunt for a place of solitude and safety but also other survivors. Survivors you could trust.
