Chapter 4: Shattering
Levi's POV
"I need to work, and as much as I don't like having you at home by yourself, you have to stay here," Henry says as he grabs his briefcase and car keys. "Stay inside and don't do anything. My daughter will be home soon. Remember, stay away from her."
I remember his words as I walked around his house. I was tempted to see inside their rooms but held myself back. I want to know Hanji much more despite what her father says. She's so beautiful... she's enchanting...
It wasn't long until the front door opened and I heard Hanji's voice. "Hold on, Nanaba, let me pack a small bag. You can come inside if you want."
"Of course, I'm coming in."
I turned to the front door and saw Hanji and another girl entering the house. Hanji took one look at me and quickly looked away. She whispers something to the girl before turning back to me. "Ah, I'll be here for a few minutes. Just grabbing some stuff for a sleepover."
"I can wait here, Hanji," The girl says, crossing her arms. Her eyes were daggers as they stabbed into my body. "I'm okay right here."
"Thanks, Nanaba."
Hanji quickly scurries upstairs as I'm left with her friend. We stared at each other until she finally spoke. "So, you're the creep staying with her family?"
"Creep?"
"A creepy man." She replies. "You have like... no emotion in your eyes. Haven't you noticed that?"
I shook my head, "No."
"Well, you're a bit of a creep. Hanji didn't talk much about your background. Where are you from? Like... why did her parents take you in? I assume they didn't want to tell Hanji... but at least tell me."
I continued to stare at her as I answered honestly. "Jordan's Juvenile Detention." The look on her face changed as she heard those words. "Still want to insult me with those words? I'm not causing any harm."
"You're a criminal..."
"Not exactly."
"What did you do to get into juvenile detention?"
I raised an eyebrow and leaned toward her. She jumps as her eyes grow small with fear. "Do you want to know?"
"I think I can handle a creep like you. Let me guess: you broke into some girl's house and stole stuff from her. Am I right?"
"Killed someone because they wouldn't leave me alone," I say. "I don't steal things. And no, I won't kill you. Unless you do something that pisses me off." I continued, not holding back. "That guy deserved it."
"No one deserves to die."
"Especially for someone that was beating up someone disabled?" I snapped, "He was the bully of the school. He didn't just bully disabled kids. He bullied both girls and boys. He belittled them because they were different. Again, he deserved to die."
The girl rolled her shoulders, almost justifying it. "Well, just stay away from Hanji. She thinks you're a creep too. Your weird stares and all... it's creepy. Jeez, how many times have I said that word?"
"Too many," I replied. "Stop it."
The girl and I stayed silent until the running footsteps came rushing down the stairs. Hanji had a duffle bag of clothes as she tapped the girl's shoulder. "Alright, I'm ready, Nanaba. Let's go."
"Right."
The girl stared at me until they turned their backs to leave the house. That girl didn't spike my interest. She questions too much about me. A bit annoying. But if they think I'm creepy- if Hanji thinks I'm creepy, I want to change that part of me. I want her... I really do want her... I don't think my heart and mind could stand the idea of me not being there with her. What can I do?
