"so, how have you and Mason been?" Jade asks me as we sat in a coffee shop trying to catch up that evening after work

it had been about 4 weeks since i'd moved in with Mase, grape was doing well, i was about 22 weeks pregnant now, and my belly had decided to really show, so ive taken up wearing joggers and sweaters, its beginning to feel a lot more real now. Mase has just played his last game of the season last week and so we've been around each other a whole lot more now

"well, me and Mase have been bickering over dumb and stupid shit for no reason for a week and a half, and then we went to a baby store 4 days ago and we kinda fought over some of the stuff we needed, and since then he's just slept in the guest room, and we've barely spoken" i tell her while sipping on my cherry flavoured coffee

"make up with him love, you know better i swear"

"i don't know, i think if he doesn't apologise then ill consider apologising first"

"bickering is dumb, and you know that Lottie"

"yeah i know Jade, but anyways, you and declan, how's that going?'

"very well actually, he's really sweet all the time"

"well im glad its going well for at least one of us"

i head home and see that mase had cooked some salad and left me a bowl on the counter

i take my food and sit in on our bed scrolling through tiktok and finishing off some work on my laptop until i fall asleep

i wake up feeling quite sweaty, i can feel heat bouncing off my face onto the pillow and then reflecting back on my face, it felt as if i was sleeping on a constant mirror of heat, yes it is June but the weather isn't even that hot

i get up and wash my face, and as soon as the water washes my eyes and all the dust is washed off, i see my face

red of swelling

i look at my limbs 

red

my entire body is red

even my ears are red

i start panicking and i have no clue what to do, without thinking i know i need to tell Mason

shit shit shit

i walk to the guest room and carefully open the door

"Mase, ive got a problem"

he was still asleep

"mase, please wake up this is really serious"

"lottie not now"

"Mase, we need to go to the ER"

"what, turn on the lights" he groans and sits up

i press the light switch and he looks at my horrific state

"get dressed, and call Jade she's a nurse isn't she, ill get up and we'll go"

i ring Jade

"Lottie? its 7 am why are you up, you don't have work friday do you?"

"Jade, my entire body is covered in hives and its all swollen and red"

"shit, go to the ER lottie, your pregnant too, go to the ER, i don't have much to tell you, just get there as fast as you can"

"okay"

i change quickly into a large t shirt and a long skirt

"LOTTIE GET IN THE CAR" Mase shouts

i run downstairs and we both get in the car

"your not allergic to anything are you?" he asks

"as far as im aware im not, no"

he turns on the car and finds his way onto the main road

"slow down, mase, your going to get a ticket"

"fuck the ticket, all i want is to make sure your okay"

 i nod

my skin begins to feel itchier and itchier and itchier

we finally arrive at the hospital after what felt like an eternity, at that point my lips were swelling and i was starting to find it hard to speak

as soon as i walk in, a nurse admits me into the hospital, ties a blue wristband onto my wrist and takes me into a room

minutes later a doctor walks in, and i show him my arms and legs which were somehow swelling more

he leaves and we can hear him shout something to someone, and barely a minute later a nurse runs into the room and gives me a really painful needle in the thigh, as well as inserting an iv into my hand

mase is sitting on a chair next to me caressing my swollen hand

"Lottie im sorry for all the dumb bickering"

"and im sorry too Mase" i manage to mumble out

my skin seemed to be calming down, and about an hour after we had first arrived, a doctor comes in to speak to us

"im going to ask you a few questions now to try and help us determine what caused this, as far as our records go, your not allergic to anything, are you?" she says

"no, ive never been allergic to anything in my life"

"okay, have you been taking any new medicines?"

"other than my pregnancy medications, nothing new"

"well, were going to have to keep you in until we are sure that you are in a stable condition" she says as she leaves the room

i nod

"well ill go home and grab you a couple things, ill stay with you at least for tonight"

"you really don't have to mase"

"i want to Char"

i nod

after Mase leaves, i try and put my head down to take a nap

im woken up out of a shortness of breath

i look around me to see its completely dark, and i can just about make out mason sleeping on the couch in the room

"Mase" im able to mumble

"Lottie? whats going on" he says waking up

he gets up and turns the light

i look at myself, my limbs and my face and my entire body were more swollen than ever

"im going to get a nurse" he says dashing out

he runs back in minutes later with a nurse, who sees the state im in, she runs in again replacing the iv with what seems to be a stronger solution, another nurse comes in holding a needle in her hands

"dear, were going to have to give you this needle, its going to hurt i know, but this is what is going to help"

i nod as i am not able to speak

she jams the needle into my thigh, and it doesn't even hurt going in, but as soon as it comes out, i feel the aching pain, it is 10 times worse than any needle i've ever been given

"are you able to speak?" she asks

i shake my head

"is your breath heavy?"

i nod

she runs out the room and comes in minutes later while dragging a machine which she puts next to my bed, she clicks a couple buttons and places the oxygen tube in my nose, after which it instantly feels easier to breathe. The nurse tells me to sleep which i do after a couple minutes of getting used to the tube in my nose
