#TWENTY SIX

Jannah knew Adnan left the country but Aisha didn't until later in the day when she realized he did not come back home the night before. She confronted her with the matter, Jannah didn't know what to say so she shrugged her shoulders and pretended to be sleepy. She tucked her daughter into bed and went to her room to get some sleep too.

The next morning though, Jannah woke up to the sounds of racks in her walk-in closet and Aisha talking on phone with God knows who. Or is it Aisha? It sounds muffled. It's just eight in the morning, she only went back to sleep around six thirty after praying Fajr earlier. She groaned and closed her ears with her large pillow, buried her face deep into the bed. What on earth is going on in her closet so early in the morning?

More minutes into trying to get some more sleep with no luck, she threw away the duvet covers from her body and sat up searching for her glasses by her bedside. Placing it atop her nose, she drunkenly walked into the closet with narrowed eyes. But is she supposed to enter just like that without knowing who is in there? Who knows if it's one of Adnan's enemies?

She searched her room for something she could hit an attacker with, nothing. That is not safe, she'll get a knife or scissors in her room next time. She's found out her husband has more enemies that could fit in a large country and might still not be enough. They are drug dealers, illegal weapon importers and whatnot. One can only be safe.

She peeped into the closet her heart hammering fiercely in her chest only to see Aisha folding clothes inside two huge suitcases. She narrowed her eyes, why didn't she think about her? She is the only person that'll disrupt her sleep without an ounce of regret so of course she is the one inside. Her shoulders reclined unconsciously.

"What are you doing in my room so early? I am going to start locking up my room each night." Jannah entered the closet unexpectedly and startled Aisha, good for her.

The latter raised her head to smile cheekily at Jannah. "You'll thank me once everything is sorted. I came here to take care of a few things that'll probably waste our time if we wait longer."

Jannah crossed her arms and leaned her back supine on one of the many wardrobes. "And what is that? Why are you packing my clothes? I hope you are not going to take them to the orphanage again? They are new! And darn expensive!"

Aisha heaved a sigh, closed one of the suitcases and went to the next one. "Nope! I just found out that your husband is not in the country so I thought I should help you pack because your passport is ready and Hajiya Maimuna is on her way to bring it with your visa."

Her brows shoot up in question. When did they plan these things? Sure she has taken a few passports few weeks ago but were they for international passport? She had no idea, Imara also have one then? They were taken there together one blessed afternoon after their driving session with Aisha. Why are they doing things behind her back?

"Why didn't you tell me about the passport stuff? I have the right to know!" She countered looking around the room wrathfully.

They are making her feel small in her own home and marriage. Why are they doing things like that without her knowledge? Or do they think she is from a small town and she doesn't know anything? Are they viewing her just like her husband is doing? Trying to make her feel small while at the same time thinking they are shielding her? That is not how she feels though.

They should've at least thought better and told her about it. Now does she even have the right to say she won't go? It looks like they are planning everything without her consent or endorsement. And that is only making her feel small, irrelevant and just a character playing their drama. That is most definitely how it feels to her.

Aisha saw the way her entire face yawed downhearted, she knew what her friend was thinking. Standing up from the floor, she dusted her hands and made it to Jannah's side. Jannah didn't acknowledge her presence, too lost into her unhealthy thoughts to see her standing there looking every inch apologetic. What they are doing is not right.

Taking both her shoulders, she meandered her around so they are face to face. "I'm sorry if you think we are taking reins away from you. I promise you, that is not what we are doing. Is it wrong for us to think you want to do this more than you let on? That is why we are planning ahead for you. Nothing more."

Jannah's eyes searched Aisha's in front of her, she tilted her head to the side then suspire. It is all Adnan's fault. Yes! After yesterday, everything refuse to make meaning. She was on edge actually, sentient to everything around her. She only wanted someone to blame for her misfortune and that is not right. She is so not being herself anymore.

The person that did her wrong should be the one to pay for it. And that is her husband, the father of her little baby girl. He's got two things coming his way now. One, pushing him into the pool and the next, for what he did yesterday which she is not sure how to avenge.

"It's fine. I don't know why I'm being so moody. Do continue with your packing, I'll go take my bath and get Imara ready." Jannah squeezed Aisha's shoulders, her smile now genuine.

God, she is going to push her only true friend away with this attitude. Again, Adnan is going to pay for it.

"I don't know why you're being moody too but I hope you won't let it go just like that. Make that person pay. Whoever it is." Aisha goaded though she fully knew who did her bad, she wants him punished.

Jannah smirked naughtily, he won't see where the stones are raining from, that is a promise she's made. Not after throwing her into that arctic pool and ignoring her after they had slept together. He has messed with the wrong Jannah, he should know what he did was terrible. The other Jannah would've swallowed it up but this one, she is always ready for a war or two.

"He won't see it coming, trust me." And with that she turned around to leave only for Aisha to call out loudly from behind.

"Don't you want to know where he is hiding?" The excitement in her voice made Jannah halt on her way to the door.

She slowly turned around. "Where is that?"

"Maldives Island! Who goes there only for business? That is a place for vacation." Aisha pouted at the end, Draco is abusing everywhere with his foulness and fire.

"I'll search it up. I don't know the place, obviously." And she left the closet to her daughter's room where Imara is still sleeping.

She didn't wake her up just yet, she went back to her room to have a bathe. Aisha had already set out a dress for her, it's on the bed. But only, it is not a dress but jeans and a shirt! What is Aisha up to now?

"Why jeans? You know I don't wear them." She called out to the lady still not done packing. Is she going there to spend the rest of her life? One might wonder.

Muffled voice came from within. "I know but you'll thank me again later. Traveling in one of those dresses are very tiring and besides, you're going to the airport straight then inside the plane and you're good."

Jannah huffed but wrestled into the Mom's jeans, she stared at herself in the mirror with a laugh. She looks so funny wearing that but they are wide and comfortable. The shirt is mustard color, now she won't rest with yellow colors from Aisha. Not after finding out it is her favorite of all time.

Her feet were sheathed with white Nike sneakers or are they vans? She's got no idea but they make her look like this cute single mother taking her daughter on a vacation.

"Mama pwetty." Imara startled her when she came running into the room in her cute jeans and matching top.

Jannah looks confused at the dressed girl in front of her, she was sleeping just few minutes ago when she went to check up on her. Her eyes settled on Aisha who walked out from the closet. More confusion, it looks like Aisha has been there all the while. A taslim from the door snagged all their attention to the person there. Hajiya Maimuna stood in all her glory.

She is the one behind a dressed Imara then, her basil French lace looks wet around the bishop sleeves. Jannah trudged forward to greet the woman only for her to be enveloped in her arms. Shocked, she didn't know how to return the hug from the geriatric so she stood awkwardly.

Hajiya Maimuna chuckled after pulling away. "You need to relax around me. I'm only the woman that gave birth to your husband not the one who made him a dragon."

All of them laughed in the room except Imara who didn't know what was going on, she forced it out though. Jannah took her daughter in her arms and rained kisses all over her face. She is going to meet her father in an unknown country, she is looking forward to that.

"I found out he left the country yesterday from Edward. How are things between you two?" Hajiya Maimuna asked as they surrounded the dining table ready for their breakfast that was cooked by the maids.

Jannah shrugged her shoulders unconsciously, that is enough to define her relationship with Adnan. Is there more that needs to be said when everyone there knows whom they are dealing with? He is not some broken guy that'll break down his walls at the first piece of attention given to him. He was never broken, he just doesn't care. He is whole!

She's came to conclusion that no matter how much she tries to get closer to him and know him better, she'll still fall back to that dark abysmal pit right from the beginning. The man is too busy building an empire to give a shit about emotions. He lacks them. Along the way to his success, he's stopped feeling and doesn't know how to react to them.

With his daughter though, it is something he cannot control. The relationship between father and daughter is not forced, it is natural. But the mother of the daughter? That is an entirely different story when they were not in love from the beginning. It was just a marriage of convenience, she wanted it to stay like that. Not anymore.

It is unhealthy and treacherous but she wants it all now. She shouldn't have allowed herself to get closer to her baby daddy after knowing who he is but she's got a taste of his formidable poison, now she wants more. She wants to inundate herself in it until she cannot think straight or breath anymore. She wants to be his hellcat, a mythical creature that'll end up oxidizing along with him.

Imara's chair scraping the floor as a maid adjusted her on it pitched her back. What were those dark thoughts she was having? Adnan does not want that at all! He wants to be alone just like he's conquered the world by himself. He doesn't need a mate, a culpability that'll slow him down.

"We had a few conversations, got him to force smiles and broke my fever." Jannah answered sitting down also, watching the maids serve food for them.

So that is how the rich enjoy life with servants doing everything for them, always at their beck and call.

"Broke your fever? When did that happen?" She searched around the room trying to get Aisha's eyes. She should've told her about that.

"I thought it was their private moment together. But she's told you now which means it is not so private after all." Aisha pouted, that was a moment just for them. Jannah shouldn't be saying everything out. Well, she's hid what happened yesterday.

"Leave us." Hajiya Maimuna dismissed the maids that stood loitering around after they've served them the good looking breakfast.

"And what else happened? How is it you were sick and I didn't know?" Hajiya Maimuna leaned on the table, her food in front of her getting no attention.

Jannah squirmed on her sit. Should she tell her about it? How her son threw her in the pool from a two storey building at his balcony? But Imara will hear that and you never know what children will make out of a few words. She might understand what they are talking about so she nudged Aisha to tell her, she is closer to the woman.

When Aisha leaned in, she grinned mischievously. "Mr. Adnan threw her into the pool from his room balcony as a punishment because she blackmailed him into coming back home early. He refused to save her at first but did later on. Imara forced him to take care of her Mama."

Hajiya Maimuna raised a brow. Threw her into a pool? She is going to have to talk to him about this. He had no right pushing his wife into a pool. Is he mad or high on something? This wasn't how she raised him! But did she really did? He was always away from home working to his bones. He comes back home late at night and leave early again the next morning.

"You should've told me. Now I don't know when he is coming back to Nigeria. I will have to talk to him." She narrowed her eyes at the plate in front of her.

"Don't talk to him. I'll push him back too, it's a promise I made while I was sick. Tit for tat." The way Jannah commented savagely made Hajiya Maimuna's shoulder to recline almost immediately.

She's seen that chill savageness in her at the hospital just three days ago, she is seeing something more frigid now. If Adnan thinks he is a dragon, he's got a real hellcat after him. Jannah is going to make his life hell and soon get ahold of her life without their help. She is looking forward to that day.

"As his mother, I'm going to beg you to make sure he knows how it feels to be humble. I hope he gets sick too without any nurse around." She grinned mischievously, he shouldn't die though. He's never been sick as far as she could remember.
