#TWELVE

Hajiya Maimuna and Aisha who's holding Imara around her shoulder barged into the room the second Adnan rounded a corner probably to go see Doctor Abdussalam. Jannah was standing by the window just realizing that she was wearing only a vest beneath the gown and no other undergarments. But he wasn't staring at her body right?

"What happened? He looks almost emotional, like human when he left. What did you say?" Aisha beamed, placing Imara back on the bed to continue watching her movie.

Jannah gulped, something is stuck in her throat. "I called him a psychotic idiot and he left."

Aisha's smile broadened, taking up her entire face., the girl is such a maverick"Yes! That's the spirit, girlfriend. I'm so loving this already. Wait, where's my phone?"

She probed for her phone only to conceive that she's forgotten to tap record video when she left the room. It's all that Adnan, so freaking intimidating. She groaned and stomped her feet on the floor.

"Psychotic idiot? That's temperament, it'll work I guess. Can you recall your entire conversation? I want to make sure he is not trying to outsmart us." Hajiya Maimuna draw her to the couch, ordered a dismayed Aisha to close the door and stay there to guard.

Jannah told her everything from the sarcastic words she's mistakenly blurted out when he hovered over her down to the emotion she's seen in his face before he schooled his expression though she is still doubting whether she's seen it or her eyes were playing gimmicks on her. The man is not capable of those, that's just how he is.

By the end of her spiel, Hajiya Maimuna is beaming and Aisha is jumping around like a kangaroo about to give birth. "You will have him shackled in no time. I can feel it in my veins and blood."

"I also have a feeling that something positive is going to come out of this. And dear, that feral side we were talking about was all in you. From the conversation you just had with him, I know that is all within you and you weren't acting at all. Don't hold back." Hajiya Maimuna advised, her hand on one of Jannah's shoulder.

Jannah gave a smile absently before going to the bed to join her daughter. "When are we leaving?"

"I think in an hour or so. I'll go talk to Doctor Abdussalam and Adnan." Hajiya Maimuna left the room quietly, a few things webbing through her head. She needs to talk to Adnan about something, a few.

She made it to the office to find him already standing up ready to leave. She stopped him then push him back into the office. Her attention businesslike yawed to Doctor Abdussalam. "Can you arrange the discharge papers for us? I'd like to take my daughter-in-law back to her home."

Dr. Abdussalam narrowed his eyes slightly but nodded. "Right away." And he left the office leaving the two of them alone.

Hajiya Maimuna crossed her hands over her chest earning a raised brow from her son. Why are they all doing that today? First it was Jannah and now his mother too? That's why he hates staying around because he despise being bossed, only his mother can do that. Seems like Jannah is about to start that too but he'll halt it, he's leaving the country to Russia in a few days.

"I heard that she wants out of this marriage? What did you do to her, AD? I don't like how things are going already when you know this girl is now sick. She doesn't remember anything but she's already perceived that you had a terrible conjugation. This is so not done. You have to do something about it." She chided, her eyes sternly looking up at him.

"Do what? Change who I am because she isn't happy? What's happiness? Right, have food and shelter and she's got everything and more. Then what more does she need?" He frowned at his mother, turning his back to her as he searched absently around Dr. Abdussalam's office.

She followed him to nag some more. "She needs love! She's got needs of a woman with husband and I can clearly tell you aren't fulfilling those things. That's not marriage. Giving her food, clothes and shelter is not all marriage entails."

"What does love guarantee?" Adnan scoffed shortly. "How many cruelties have been committed in the name of love? For centuries, women have been abused and betrayed by the men who profess to love them. If you ask me, a woman would benefit far more from a diversified investment portfolio than love. That's my view and I'll stand by it."

Hajiya Maimuna's mouth hung open, she isn't susceptible though. If she could remember clearly, he's never been in love with any woman in his life so then why this much hostility towards love? Is there something her son is hiding away from her? There must be, he's never spoken like that about love not even when he married his first wife eight years ago.

"Love guarantee a lot of things from the right person. You'd know that if you've ever been in love." She closed her eyes to breath unsteadily, she's felt that too several years ago but it got snatched away.

Adnan didn't say anything for awhile. "Then I'm not the right person for her it seems. I am not capable of loving anyone, not even myself so it's either she takes what I'm willing to offer or go find herself another man that's capable of love."

"You cannot have two ex wives, you hear me? I won't allow you to divorce this one too and I seriously love Jannah, a lot." She buckled her expression, seeing just how hopeless her son is in matter related to love. Only for his daughter it seems.

He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. "That's what you said about Zaida and that's up to Jannah too. I don't have any problem having her as my wife but if she doesn't want to stay, she can leave. I won't force her to be with me. I'm not worth that much anyway."

He was not like this with the Zaida he married years ago. Zaida wanted a social life and when she married him, she made sure to take advantage of that to flaunt her riches in other people's eyes. It was an arranged marriage when her father proposed to Adnan about the arrangement, he agreed mainly because he wanted to merge business with Nazir Aliero.

They got divorced two years later when she fell in love with another man and got pregnant out of wedlock. When he found out, he gave her lots of money and told her to run away with her lover knowing how brutal her father is going to be when he finds out. He is generous when he wants to be and it's not like she's ever done him wrong while they were together. Only tried making him fall for her but it didn't work so she gave up and went for one of his employees.

The guy still works for him in one of his refineries in Italy. Her only mistake is trying to influx sentience into his torpid and dormant heart.

"What about her needs and rights as your wife?" She probed, not about to let that slip.

"I'll see to that but I'm not promising anything. Like I've said, she can fall in love with another man and I'll gladly divorce her and even compensate."

"Stop talking about divorce! Even if she beseeched that, don't ever do it or you find yourself another mother." She said it like a testament earning narrowed eyes from her son.

"I want you to stay with her for the time being. She needs a little push to recall her past but don't force things on her. Seems like this is an entirely different person we are dealing with. Not the other malleable Jannah." She suggested with a sigh, hopeless course.

He made his way to the door before calling out. "I'm only here for three days. No more than that."

"He will only be here for three days so make sure in those three days you've started leaving imprints in his head." Hajiya Maimuna advised as they stopped by her sons mansion to drop them off, Aisha included.

"I'll be there to guide her if she ever forgets, don't worry." Aisha chirped in, unbuckling Imara from her baby car seat.

"You should trust her words, we'll be alright." Jannah wanted to give the woman a hug but just because she's start acting doesn't mean she is still not shy so she gave her a grateful smile and dismounted the car.

Her eyes zeroed on Adnan's BMW accelerating into the house, she smiled inwardly. She then watched as her mother-in-law left their home so she asked Aisha to go inside that she'll be there with her in a minute. She waited until Adnan's car stopped right by the stairs that lead into the mansion before going to stand by the owner's corner watching Edward, his driver open the door for him after tipping his hat at her.

Jannah is wearing a coral flowery maxi dress with bishop sleeves and golden Dior belt in the middle. Her feet are clad in kitty heels and a veil wrapped classically across her shoulders. When Adnan noticed that she isn't dressed the way she normally does, he scoffed inwardly. This Jannah is probably going to be a colossal problem.

"So we live in this house? No wonder you were so arrogant when you told me my parents sold me. You are...affluent." She smiled sassily, her expression serene and cool as cucumber.

"If your eyes haven't lost their visual modality too, I'm trying to get out of the car into my house. Now, excuse me." His eyes are on his phone, typing an email fast.

She frowned, it's not working it seems. "And I'm getting to know my husband. Is that a crime? You are supposed to help me convalesce."

"Do I look like a nurse or a baby sister?"

She gave him a once over from head to toe then scrunch up her nose. "From another angle, you sure do. That suit, the stern expression of a Shrek. You sure cut out the look."

Adnan's brows lowered down to his eyelashes, bothered. "I'm starting to doubt whether you are my wife or not. She was never like this and I'm not liking this version of hers."

"I really don't know what your problem is but it must be hard to pronounce. You're so stuck up. Have fun for a little while." She purses her lips to one side, still not giving him an aperture to leave the car.

"And you think having fun brings wealth into people's lives? You must be denser than I thought." He shook his head still not glancing up at her, eyes on phone.

He is starting to make her blood boil with his nonchalance and rude remarks. Is that how he really is? Then she is glad they never had serious conversations then or she would've cried after overthinking it for a long time. How could someone be this heartless and rude to his own family? Is that how his world is? So dark and filled with office work?

Finally after what seems like forever of her drilling holes in his head, he looked up. "Why are you glaring at me? Or your visual modality is wrecked too?"

She gave him a tight lipped smile. "I'm hoping you'll spontaneously combust."

He chortled nastily before sliding to the other end of the car to open the other door. "It'd take more than that for me to combust. And be rest assured, there are a lot of people that want to do that for you."

He dismounted the car and made his way up the stairs but she immediately followed suit. "You've got so many enemies? With rude remarks and that arrogance, you'd pack many. It's a wonder you are still not yet beheaded. Or at least, crippled."

"It's not easy being me. Keep in mind you won't be able to do anything to me too, not even while I'm asleep." He turned around suddenly, she bumped into his back taking a whiff of his strong manly scent that made her shiver and eyes to dilate.

His eyes fell into hers in a way that made her intestines quiver. With that look, no one will be able to come close enough even though she is standing just inches away from him. She cannot go closer if that's the expression he always possess to scare people away. He knows how to pull it up!

She gulped but raised a carved brow up. "You think I won't be able to suffocate you while you're asleep? Puh-lease, not with the way I want to stab you right now."

He smiled chillingly. "You've got my wife's face and body but you are vicious while she is docile. Thread carefully. There is a reason I chose to wife her and not any other woman."

"Because she allows you to match all over her with your shitty attitude? Then I hope to God I never recover enough to witness that. I'd regurgitate my intestines when I see that now." She surmised with a look of pure disgust all over her face.

Adnan is surprised to say the least and that emotion is something he hasn't felt in a long time. "I really don't like you right now."

Her eyes stung but she blinked rapidly. This man is so heartless, it's better being away from him than talking to him. Maybe that was why Allah turned her against him because he was no good for her. Maybe she is making a terrible mistake by deciding to get close to him to help her daughter. He is only hurting her, the coldhearted reptile.

"And I bet you never did." She tilted her head to the side waiting for an answer that never came. "That's a shame because my middle finger seems to like you." She gave him the finger and rushed into the mansion before him.

Adnan stood back there watching her small figure disappear behind the large elmwood doors. That little wife of his sure is going to make his life a lot difficult with her memory loss. He might as well leave the country earlier than those designed three days, he doesn't need distraction at this moment. There are so much that needs to be done and his wife's tantrums aren't enlisted.

But maybe what his mother had said is true after all. His wife's got right over him. He's only touched her once but that's where his nightmares always root out from. He is so against physical relationships like his hate for poverty, a past that always emerge.

An image popped behind his eyelids. "That's what love is all about. Let me do that to you again. It'll disappear." And so did the image leaving his eyes wide open and brain in chaos.

It's been a long time since he's last permitted himself to visit the past, he controls it like he would any contract. He won't be able to fulfill her rights, she'll have to choose. Either stay like that unattended or just leave him.
