"I knew you can do it! I trust you, Jay. Now get that ass to his room and meet him." She gave Jannah another once over at the sound of the front doors closing announcing Adnan's return back home.
The day has been long that it felt like they've already slept and awoke. They don't have much time though, every second is as important as the next. They are going to use it the best they can just like what they've achieved today. Getting Adnan to come back home around eight in the evening, that wasn't part of the plan but Jannah is getting ahold of it.
She is presently wearing on a jet black Versace evening gown that emphasizes her svelte figure with bishop sleeves and high neckline. Adorning both her ears with loop earrings, applied some eyeshadow by the edge of her eyes then cover them up with her cat eye bifocals. Instead of wearing heels, she opted for Princetown Leather Slippers.
Taking a deep breath, she kissed her sleeping daughter's forehead, she was working with them throughout dinner until few minutes ago when she couldn't keep up and slipped out of consciousness. Jannah straightened her spine, cocked her head to the side as she reread the things she's planned on saying to him. Though the problem is, she won't be able to say them like she'd initially planned. Something tend to wreck it whenever she sees him.
She made her way to his room one step at a time. By the time she reached his door, she's taken three minutes in something that usually takes forty seconds. She wanted to barge inside without knocking then thought otherwise. Maybe he is naked after showering or about to shower, she is not about to see what she cannot unsee. Not yet.
She knocked twice on the door without an answer, she pushed the door and sauntered inside. Adnan is nowhere in sight so she entered inside the room, quietly closed the door behind her. The room hasn't changed but there is this new fragrance inside that made her stomach churn pleasantly. She went to the floor to ceiling glass window watching the balcony.
"Don't breath on that, it's expensive." She jumped up in fright, turned around to view her husband walking out from the bathroom in only a towel!
She blushed, her face flushing and heating up furiously. Look away! She chanted in her head but she couldn't though that's exactly what she should do. She stood there with her mouth hanging agape and her eyes taking him in for the next forty six seconds until he started ferrying towards her. She blinked slowly, licked her lips while taking lip gloss inside her mouth.
Her cranium snapped when he stood at an arm's length where she could smell his soap and aftershave, she almost inhaled deeply but gripped her mouth shut. She looked away to calm her raging heart and breathing, he shouldn't have this effect on her or at least, he shouldn't see it broadly. The man will take advantage of her then leave her to tend to herself.
"Expensive? Wow, I didn't know." She made sure he could see the sarcasm dripping all over her face and words, submerging them all.
"You wouldn't." He shook his head mockingly. Now he is talking about something entirely different, she is not liking him anymore.
She decided that changing the topic is a lot more easier than arguing about his wealth and her own status. "Anyway, I decided to stop by so we could go to the dining room together."
The way his eyes scanned her again, made her want to slap him and kiss him at the same time. It is so thorough that her skin prickled. "What for?"
Rubbing her warm fingers all over her wrists to stop herself from touching her glasses, she beamed. "What do you mean what for? To have dinner obviously."
"Dinner?" Okay, this is getting so vexatious now she's picturing herself strangling him.
"Did you hit your head somewhere? Why are you asking questions like you've also lost your memory somewhere? Are we twinning? That'd be totally cool." She tilted her head in ways to keep the conversation light, she is really trying and she knew that.
"I didn't. Because I want answers. We are not. Okay." He answered each of her questions while counting with his four fingers. Isn't that strange?
She stared at him as though he's hit his head somewhere for real. He sounds crazy already and she's not started anything.
"Okay, this is so not you. Why are you acting weird? No, you know what? Don't answer that, you're always weird. Let's just go have dinner."
"About that..." he trailed off keeping her on edge, her expression screams talk or I kill you right now but he is taking his leisure time by doing the exact opposite.
Tired of waiting, she goaded. "What about that?"
He took another step closer to her his head tilted to the side, he surveyed her face heatedly. "I didn't like the way you threatened me earlier, I don't go well with threats no matter how sma-"
"Or anything for that matter. Now what are you going to do about it? You shouldn't have allowed me to know you don't want us in the public eye, I wouldn't have done that. Besides, that wasn't a threat." She puffed out her cheeks and crossed her arms beneath her chest.
She should be mad that he doesn't want the public to know about her but look at him looking all too stern because she's used the only thing she knew will get him right on a leash. She didn't know actually, until he instantly agreed with her last option earlier. It made her heart bled knowing he is ashamed of being her husband but she shouldn't dream big huh? It's all about her daughter after all.
Adnan took another step leaving only one foot between them, she gulped. Something terrible is going to happen, her toes are curling and goosebumps are rising all over her body. Even her nerves are on edge now, standing on high alert, extremely vigilant. What is he trying to do now? Intimidate her with that aura of his and height cause it's working damn well.
"What was it then?"
"I don't know. Just a wife blackmailing her husband or more like bullying him into coming back home early. It happens in many marriages." She shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly, ignoring the chaos going on in her head and heart.
"Is that so?" That raising of brow again. The one that she is slowly getting used to and loving it too in process. It makes him feel more human, dark and completely fascinating.
She gave a meek nod, a small innocent smile touching her lips. "Yes. Normal couple at least."
"And we aren't normal so I'm going to punish you for that so you won't try it again next time. No one threatens me and go exonerated." Another step closer and she is flat against the glass wall behind her, something poked her lower back. Like a doorknob.
She adjusted her glasses nervously. "Punish me? I'm your wife!"
He shrugged his shoulders, the next minute the door opened behind her letting in cold breeze into the room that made her shiver. Adnan wouldn't stop walking and she kept moving back on instinct stepping out of the room into the cold air where her back yet again, hit the silver balustrade behind her. She stopped with a jerky breath and slowly look down at the gleaming blue pool below.
She wasn't given time to glance up at him again when he upshot her down the balustrade and straight into the crisp, wintry and frosty cobalt water with a loud splash, her voice piercing the night air. What? She didn't expect that from him.
She cannot swim but she can at the same time because they used to do that once in a while back at her hometown in a small pond. She kept trying to get to the edge but the water is colossal and super mammoth. Her heart lurched in her throat, is she going to die already? She hasn't done anything to him yet, she cannot die!
While she was struggling for the next few minutes, she heard the sounds of footsteps and hysteric voice calling out her name. A huge part of her wanted this person to be Adnan so she can forgive him easily and not feel like a desperate woman while the other part knew he is not the one. He pushed her as a punishment. The goddamn terrible little shite that wont let go of his principles for his own family.
"Hajiya, Hajiya hold up. I'm coming." It was Mallam Sani, the gateman stroke guard.
He came to the edge of the pool offering her his strong hand. He saw everything from his room by the gate right after coming out to go micturate. His eyes bulged when he saw the way Adnan threw a woman into the pool intentionally. He didn't know it was his own wife from afar until he heard her voice asking for help.
What on earth is wrong with Adnan? Maybe his mental stability should be checked.
She gave him her hand only to take it off when a plan slanted through her head. "Do me a favor and go inside the mansion. Tell my friend to come here but first tell my husband I'm out here drowning and you cannot swim."
"No, allow me to help you out of here. It's freezing like death." He persisted surveying the pool like it did him wrong not his boss.
Jannah shook her head still floating inside the water while trying to fight the friction. "Hurry up I can't stay here for long. Make sure he comes out."
"Hang in there." And with that Mallam Sani rushed inside the mansion to get her work done.
He didn't know much around the inside of the mansion so he thanked the heavens when he saw the friend she was talking about. He's seen her quiet a few times inside the house to know they are friends and she isn't a maid. When she saw him standing by the door, she came with furrowed brows, her hands filled with different sort of junk -ice cream, dairy milk, pizza and yoghurt.
"What happened, Mallam Sani? You look pale and-" she was cut off hastily.
"Hajiya is drowning in the pool but she won't allow me to help her out. Can you get Alhaji Adnan out to the pool? Hurry up please. It seems like she is not a good swimmer." He explained frantically, not knowing whether it's the pee in him or fear of Jannah drowning.
"How did that happen?" Her eyes are filled with deliriousness and voice frenzy.
Mallam Sani perused over his boots, they are dirty. "I think Alhaji pushed her down from his room's balcony."
Everything in Aisha's hands fell down on the floor, she rushed up the stairs like Usain Bolt's female version. She even tripped on two or three steps but he turned around and went back to Jannah just in case. Aisha made it to the room, knocked with both of her hands hard against the wooden door. There was no answer so she barged in.
Adnan is all dressed in sweats lounging on a couch with his phone in hand while smoking. Her eyes widened, she never knew he was a smoker and Jannah didn't tell her about it too either. She thought it was her husband's secret behind the doors but the so called husband doesn't want it to be a secret it seems. Or because she barged into his room?
That aside, she moseyed inside. "Sir, you should go and save your wife from drowning. She is in the pool."
"She won't die." Was all he said, taking a long drag of his cigarette.
Aisha's veins waltzed all over her forehead. "Sir, with due respect, you need to go get her off that pool you pushed her into or I call the police on you. That is brutal."
"Be my guest." He was giving all those answers without looking up at her.
"I'm calling your mother then. I'll tell her everything you did. Maybe then, she'll know she gave birth to a monster and she should've thrown you away when she gave birth to you. Go save her from that pool." She ordered the last part crossing her arms beneath her chest.
She's concluded that Jannah wanted him to go get her from the pool or why else would she have asked the gatemen to call him? He could have easily saved her from the water. Aisha will do anything to get him there, she is looking forward to what jannah is planning this time around. She is too good in the game.
"Make me."
"Your mother already made a mistake." She spatted venomously, that got him raising his head to look at her sharply. She quivered, her eyes widening at the terror inside. They scared her so she found herself saying. "I'm s-so sorry. I'm just worried she might die there or some genie will get to her. They are hard to get rid of nowadays."
"Ask the guard to get her out of there. Or the other workers." He flicked his wrist as if to send her away, she is not a dog or his servant.
"Sir, the gateman is not a good swimmer and the other workers have retired for the day. You are our last option." She stood her ground albeit trying her best not to let her sharp tongue dance again.
She can see why he is called Draco, he can be extremely dangerous. And she is alone with him...
Adnan relaxed against the leather couch. "You two should try something. I'm dealing with important stuff here."
Okay, that's it. She won't be calm anymore. She is going to close her eyes so she won't see his face and her intimidated again. He should throw her into the pool too or kill her, that's his problem.
"Sir, if anything happens to Imara's mother, you are going to pay for it dearly! I don't care how traumatic she is going to be or whatever, I'll tell her her father pushed her darling mother into the pool and refuse to save her from dying. Maybe then, you'll be taught a lesson or two by your own daughter. This pure heartlessness is inhumane!"
Adnan stopped typing in his phone and abruptly stood up. After hearing her rant about his daughter, she knew he won't stop at anything until Jannah is safely tucked in bed. He caused this and his daughter will hate him forever if she finds out about it in the future. She is the only constant safety in his life, he cannot lose her.
What Jannah did though, he had to acknowledge it or she will continue thinking she is going to have her way with him all the time. He is not that type of man and the sooner she realize that, the better it would be for everyone. She should stop forcing him into becoming the person he is not. This small pushing into the pool wasn't what he wanted to punish her with.
Something a little more spicier and sexual but this will do for now. She'll remember this night for the rest of her life.
But first. "I'll caution you not to ever talk to me like that again. This should be the last time you use that tone with me." He stood towering over Aisha's figure, her eyes still closed but she quivered and lowered her head much to his satisfaction. A sign of submission. Jannah should learn from her little maid.
