#FORTY FOUR

Jannah cleared her throat uncomfortably, her smile reluctant and forced. "Hello, Ammar." She almost choked on the words but she forced them out.

His angular face held an amused expression. "Missus Jannah. Pleasure seeing you here."

Jannah blushed at the use of missus which means he hadn't forgotten all that had happened that day and would love to continue rubbing it on her face. She averted her eyes to his kiltie shoes, definitely Italian with the expensive burnishing leather. They wear the best just like their older brother though her embarrassed state wont allow her to compare them.

She raised her face again to meet his eyes. His composed face is now adorned with an attractive smile that eased her slender elegant shoulders. He wont rat her out. Of course, why would he? What would he achieve if he does that? Besides he is not a maid to do that kind of gossip. Thank God none of those maids caught her there.

"Likewise." She forced another grin showing her rabbit teeth while nervously adjusting her glasses. "Are you going inside?"

"Yes but I found you standing outside so something serious must be going on inside?" he tried looking into the room past her head, just to show her how much taller he is it seems.

"Well, they were having a serious discussion and I didn't want to interrupt them so I stood out here. But we can enter now that they are done. Just don't say anything." Her eyes found his mischievous ones.

"Cross my heart and hope to die. I don't know how they say it but you know what I mean." Another smile hauled her way, he gestured that she enters first before him which she did.

Nawal was the first person to notice her in the room followed by Hajiya Maimuna who still looks like she wants to scold her daughter about the matter they were discussing minutes ago. Didn't they hear the commotion outside? That would've been much better so Jannah permitted her shoulders to relax.

Her eyes settled on her mother-in-law's intentionally avoiding Nawal's in process. The geriatric took her in from head to toe then her thinned African lips that emaciated with age spread into a gargantuan smile. Whatever it is she is seeing in Jannah made her very pleased and that soothed Jannah too a lot.

Before her mother in-law could talk, Nawal did.

"Mom, who is this?" It was meant for only Hajiya Maimuna's ears but Jannah caught the words with her ever able ears.

Hajiya Maimuna raised a chiding brow at her daughter making her look like her son, he does that a lot too. "Don't you remember your brother's wife now?"

Nawal met Jannah's eyes still looking perplexed then perused at Ammar who was standing a little behind her. "You got married?"

Ammar laughed at her genuinely confused question. Jannah hadn't changed that much, has she? Just her way of dressing and the mafia way she wants to carry herself which is very much needed with a husband like hers. Her body, physique, complexion is still very much the same. Why on earth is Nawal now confused? Is the course she's studied messing with her cranium?

"She is Draco's wife, Sis. Don't you remember Jannah? Imara's mother?" He tilted his head enjoying this more than he should.

Nawal's captivating walnut eyes rounded as she unabashedly surveyed Jannah from head to toe, her eyes taking in each detail. "Is that Dior?" She asked pointing at her bag.

Jannah shook her head, surprised that she is not cowering when she normally do that around Nawal because she also has this imposing aura like her brother's. She answered in a steady throaty voice. "Bvlgari."

Instead of having the same skin tone like Adnan's olive skin or Ammar's slightly darker one, she is fairer than them both with her tan-bronze skin rooting for gold now that she hasn't been beneath Nigeria's sun. She has crocodilian eyes, dark fringed with spider-legged eyelashes combed with mascara to perfection. Eaglelike Roman nose stood austere in the middle of her diamond shaped face above her crimson-glossed lips.

Nawal Ibrahim Attahir is beautiful in a stern way. All her brothers are finer than her which to her is a disaster she cannot get rid of. She hated walking around with them since childhood and fortunately the most handsome one has been present for most of it. That doesn't mean she is ugly, not even close to that.

Hajiya Maimuna took the conversation. "Maldives people. Where is Imara? You look good by the way. How was Maldives? Oh, do come sit beside me and tell me everything."

The siblings stared at their mother excitedly speaking to her daughter in-law like she would her daughter maybe even more because they've been together for the past three to four years while Nawal has been absent for the most of it. Her eyes excitedly perused over her, the affection and adoration flushed all over her. She loves Jannah, a lot!

Jannah talked to the woman in a quiet tone not sure if she should raise her voice loud enough for the others to hear. They don't know about the memory loss thingy and she is not sure if she is going to be comfortable with the idea of them knowing all that about her. Maybe they might be able to help her in some way? Ammar already knew that something is fishy so does Nawal.

"What happened to you, Jannah?" Nawal interrupted their conversation, her brows knitted at being in the dark.

Hajiya Maimuna charged her with a glare but she only shrugged her shoulders and continued looking at Jannah for answers. Jannah was quiet because she doesn't know what to say at this point. What could she tell her? The entire plan from the beginning or she just decided to changed herself? They wont understand or would they?

God bless her mother in-law for taking over. She whispered in her ear. "I will tell them about everything because they wont let you be if they don't find out what is really going on. Besides, Nawal can also be too wild for my liking so she might be able to help with few more ideas. What do you think?"

What does she think?

Maybe this will bring her closer to her in-laws? They've never had any conversation. This should be the aperture right? They could bond up with the knowledge that the four of them have some sort of secret Adnan is not included in. Right? So she gave her mother-in-law a go-ahead nod.

With that Hajiya Maimuna told her children everything she knows about the amnesia and whatnot. Jannah was embarrassed by the side while watching the siblings' reaction to their childish scheme. When her mother in-law finished talking, the duo yawed their attention to her and it was almost comical watching them display their shock with open mouths and wide eyes. It was a good minute before they recovered enough to talk, embarrassing her further.

"I knew something was up when I went there last week but never thought this was the ca-" Ammar was cut off by Nawal who shrieked excitedly.

"That was totally unexpected but damn! Who would've thought the meek malleable woman that married my brother few years ago would come up with such feral idea?" Nawal exclaimed, hands to her mouth to shield another enthusiastic wicked guffaw.

Hajiya Maimuna hushed them. "Don't be too loud, we have nosy maids here."

"I hope I am not part of them, Hajjaju?" Aisha's voice floated from the door before her entire body drifted in behind.

She looks exquisite in her straight gown Ankara which Jannah is sure wasn't part of her clothes. Maybe then she sew it herself or hid them for such outings? Because she looks delightful. Albeit her chubby physique, the girl manage to have little to none belly fat to show in the dress or is it because it is extremely tight? Her hips flared promising a better view from behind, her breast molded to perfection. She draped a chiffon veil right then when she noticed two more audience apart from Jannah.

"If it isn't the lousy maid." Ammar commented his voice permeated with distaste and abysmal animosity. Why is that?

Aisha's eyes snapped to his, leaving Nawal's, the girl she is meeting for the second time but had heard a lot about her from her mother. She is a pleasant view but like the other maids had gossiped, a little dim in the presence of her two older brother even with the lighter skin.

Sending a sarcastic smile at Ammar, she replied. "And if it isn't the presumptuous son of the house."

"You've finally acknowledged that I am the son of the house. Now I know your brain isn't too damaged with so much arrogance." He gave a cool smile, his eyes fixated on her face trying not to search any other place though it is a huge effort doing so.

"I haven't but to get you off my back." She opened her arms in a gesture that supplied she is more superior than he could ever be.

Studying her for a few seconds, deep into those pools of sad depressed eyes, Ammar knew there is more than meets the eye with this maid. She is clearly not from the village and circumstances brought her to where she is, a place she's never thought to be in her entire life. Picking up at him lessens the burden which is why he entertains her as much as he can.

"Your life is so sad." He shook his head and yawed his expression to that of a conceited man so she wont see that he is seeing deep within her. For one thing he's known about depressed people is, they don't want anyone taking a modicum of glimpse into the grotesque they are cloaking.

"That is because you are obviously in it." She backfired raising both her brows because she couldn't lift one at the same time like Adnan does.

"And who said I am in it? You are just a maid in my house and nothing more so you shouldn't worry about me being in your life... except of course, if you want me to be in it." He punctuated his presumptuous words with a cocky smile that one would think he earned for advertising a toothpaste.

Aisha managed to look repulsive though that lopsided grin made her heart stutter for very much bizarre reasons. "Oh, please. You are the last person I would want in my life and FYI, I don't work as a maid anymore. Are you blind to not see the absence of the uniform."

Right then Ammar knew he couldn't hold his eyes from perusing, surveying, assessing, investigating her from head to toe. He gulped at the sight of her fair chest, not even a glimpse of what lays beneath showing but he became restless and tore his eyes away from her. Fuck! Why did he bother listening to her? He'd seen that she wasn't wearing the uniform but just so she wouldn't think he pays attention to every detail related to her.

He slant her a look she couldn't decipher. "Don't bother. I knew you were a maid and that is forever going to be the view of you I have in my eyes, maid."

Aisha scoffed ready to retaliate when Hajiya Maimuna's laughter along with Jannah's stopped her from retorting. Nawal on the other hand continued looking back and forth between them as if waiting for them to keep fulminating, it has come to an end courtesy of her mother and sister-in-law. Sister-in-law? Oh, yeah they were discussing something.

"These two aside, why don't we talk about what you finished saying about Draco? And if I am not wrong, she is also involved in this little scheme of yours." Nawal's attention yaw to Aisha who embarrassingly stood in the middle of the room like a chided student.

Aisha gave her a sheepish smile as Hajiya Maimuna commented adoringly. "She is behind everything with a mind like the devil's."

"Now she is a devil too? I should've expected it." Ammar jumped in readily waiting for any jeer related to Aisha.

Opening her mouth to reprimand him and give him a real taste of what she is like when poked, Nawal raise a hand at her. "Please don't answer him, he only wants your attention but lets think about something better for Jannah and Draco. I am so excited to see how things are going to turn out. Why did you even hide this from me?" She meandered to pout at her mother.

"You weren't here, were you?" Hajiya Maimuna raised a mocking brow at her daughter who grunted then turned to call Aisha forward.

"Now come and tell me what's happened since. And Jannah, are there progress?" She poked from behind her mother's larger shoulders.

Jannah's lips flattened just a little. "I wouldn't say progress but yes, a few changes from him and nothing more."

"We are going to get there." Nawal rubbed both her palms together with an evil grin all over her face. "Though it's going to be comical seeing Draco all whipped, I'd do giveaway with my new G-Wagon in a heartbeat to see that."

"If you do giveaway with that car, Nawal, I will make sure you don't get anyone like it anytime soon. Do you know how expensive that rubbish pink thing is?" Ammar glared at her waiting for her to argue which she did almost immediately.

"Draco will buy ten more if I ask for it, don't try getting ahead of yourself, bro." She patted his thigh after standing up as he is sitting far away from her. He swatted the hand seeing a fond smile catching on Aisha's lips at the sight of their physical banter.

Hajiya Maimuna sighed and murmured in Jannah's ears. "I don't know why they always hate each other's guts especially when it comes to Adnan. They always want his attention like little kids."

Jannah contemplated before supplying her answer in a whisper too. "Maybe because they lacked it growing up?"

"Perhaps." She shrugged her shoulders her eyes looking a little faraway. "Which is why we must stop this from happening to Imara."

"Yes!"

Nawal chortled, yawing her attention to her mother and Jannah. "What do you have planned for today?"

"Nothing." Jannah supplied.

"That won't do." She made a baby face and turn to Ammar who immediately looked away from Aisha who was also concentrating on what Nawal was saying. "Don't be like that, bro. You know I'm your favorite sister, right?"

"That is because mom decided to give birth to you only. I have no doubt you wouldn't have been my favorite."

"That is harsh! But I'll take it just listen to my request."

"Go ahead."

"Where is Draco right now?" She tilted her head, her hands twitching on her handkerchief cotton skirt.

"I don't know." He answered instantly and made a move to stand up only to be brought back by his mother.

Aisha stood up and went to stand by the door like a guard which he rolled his eyes at. "You know if I hit you from that place you'd end up with several broken bones, teeth and maybe without one leg?"

"I'd like to see you try that. Now listen to your mother." She crossed her arms beneath her chest and turn to look at the aforementioned.

Hajiya Maimuna leaned further on the couch she is sitting on. "Tell me where your brother is right now."

Ammar made a face looking torn apart from within. His brother will slit his throat if he finds out he did this, sold out his location when he wants to be alone. Whenever he takes this one day break, he wants no human to interrupt him.

"At his farmhouse."
