Chapter 8 - Sneaking out
*** Your POV ***
"(Y/n)... (Y/n)? (Y/n)!!" I woke up with a start as Haruhi shouted in my ear. She was stood next to my bed ready in her school uniform. Sitting up slowly, I looked around my room. Sunlight was peeking through the curtains, and my duvet was strewn across the floor.
"What time is it?" Swinging my feet out of my bed and placing them on the floor, I asked Haruhi.
"We have ten minutes until school starts..." Haruhi replied, poker-faced and monotone.
"What?! Why didn't you wake me up earlier?!!" Instantly I shot out of bed and began grabbing my clothes. Simultaneously Haruhi turned around while I changed my underwear and explained how she had tried to but I was too heavy a sleeper. She also blamed me for the fact we were up extremely late.
Frustratedly, I struggled to pull my tight yellow dress on over my underwear. Groaning in defeat, I surrendered and asked Haruhi to help. Soon enough, I was dressed, and we ran and dived into my car. My stomach growled in hunger and I yawned from lack of sleep, but that could wait for later. I need to get to school.
My mom got into the car, and we began driving down the road. Within 20 minutes we were at school. After we stopped me and Haruhi got out of the car after thanking my mom and saying good bye. We walked swiftly through the front plaza area of the huge school, and arrived just in time for our maths lesson.
As I walked in, Hikaru glanced up and gave me a brief smile. Smiling back in return, I placed my book on the table and sat down. I opened my book and listened to the teacher. Only three more hours until lunch.
Without thinking, I accidentally released a massive and obvious yawn. Clasping my hands over my mouth, I looked around. The teacher was looking at me with an unimpressed expression.
"Am I boring you, Miss (y/s/n)?" He stood with his hands on his hips. Vigorously, I shook my head and apologised. He was known for being mean and strict, and I wanted to stay on his good side. I glanced over at Haruhi who smiled at me. Knowing she was laughing on the inside, I smiled back.
The next three lessons were torture. My stomach growled every so often, and in the last lesson, in which I sit next to Hikaru, it growled the loudest. Hikaru jumped in his seat and looked at me in shock. I flushed red and put my head down in my arms. Hikaru laughed, before I heard scribbling and what sounded like the pitter of paper falling next to me. Lifting my head and seeing a piece of paper folded next to me, I picked it up and unfolded it subtly.
I know you're hungry. Sneak out for lunch with me?
I looked at him and wrote down:
Why, the food here's really good?
I threw it back and it tumbled onto his desk. He opened it and read it, before scribbling something down and passing back to me.
Yeah but it's more fun to sneak out ;)
Sighing, I folded the paper and tucked it into the back of my book. Looking at the clock, I found there were only five minutes of the lesson back. I guess I don't have a choice but to leave with him, do I? Turning to him, he was looking at me with one eyebrow raised, as if looking for an answer. I replied with a nod, and he grinned. I turned back to the teacher as he was finishing the class.
Our class was dismissed, and I packed my books up and stood up behind my chair. An arm looped around my waist and began pulling me to the door. I looked up and saw Hikaru. He smiled down at me as we walked, and we headed out to the front plaza.
"Umm... I just remembered I can't come because I don't have any money on me... I'm sorry." I frowned, but Hikaru continued to pull me along.
"It's fine, it's on me." He smiled again, and I nodded. I felt bad, but he didn't seem like he would take no for an answer. Hikaru continued to lead me through the gates, and a rush of adrenaline coursed through me. This is against the rules.
"Uh... What if we get caught?" I began to worry. Hikaru simply turned his head and laughed at me.
"(Y/N), you do know this is a private academy for the richest people in Japan, right? The teachers here have to suck up to us because every one of us is more powerful than them. They upset us, they upset our families. And if they upset our families, more often than not they get the sack." I gasped; how could they throw away so many people's jobs because they've disappointed others?
"Have you ever caused a teacher have to leave?" Curious, I asked him.
"Not yet, but you never know, do you?" Winking, he lead me round a corner, and we were faced with a long street. There were a few cute cafes which lined the sidewalk. "So, where do you wanna go?"
"Um... I don't know, I've never been here before. You can decide." Blushing nervously, I hung my head. Hikaru laughed at me, and we began walking towards a really cute looking cafe. We went inside, and Hikaru went and sat in a seat at a table next to the window. Joining him, I sat down and glanced at the little menu hanging above the counter.
"What're you getting?" Tapping my finger on my chin thoughtfully, I read the menu. I turned back to Hikaru to find he was leaning over the table to get a better view of the menu. His face was so close to mine that his cheek was centimetres from my nose. Blushing, I jumped back slightly. Hikaru turned and looked at me curiously, but I shrugged.
"I think I'll have the chocolate cake, what about you?" I asked casually. He thought for a minute.
"Probably the syrup sponge." He replied, sitting back again.
Soon, a waitress came and took our orders. There's just something about sweet foods which always get me energised. As the cafe wasn't very busy, the waitress soon arrived again with our cakes. Setting them down in front of us, we thanked her, and Hikaru paid her the money. Smiling down at the huge hunk of cake before me, I raised my fork. I was so hungry; I hadn't eaten all day.
Piercing the perfect piece of food, I scooped up a section and placed it in my mouth. My eyes fluttered closed as I savoured the flavour. This was the best cake I'd ever tasted in my life.after swallowing, I opened my eyes to see Hikaru laughing at me holding his phone up.
"Hey!" I cried, but he took his phone away.
"I knew you'd make a face like that if you ate here. It's the best cafe I know." He grinned down at his phone.
"Please don't show anyone." I giggled embarrassedly, and he nodded.
"However, I've never tried that cake before. You can try some of mine?"
Hikaru picked up my fork and scooped himself a forkful of my cake. He popped it in his mouth, and I was about to complain but then remembered that he paid for all of this. He then took his fork and placed a bit of his syrup sponge in my mouth. The cool syrup oozed on my tongue, and I swallowed happily. This place really was the best bakery I'd ever been to.
After we had finished, me and Hikaru sat back, satisfied and full.
"So, why did you choose syrup sponge?" I asked him.
"Oh, I just love anything syrupy. Syrup pancakes, syrup sponge, syrup. You name it, if it's syrupy, it's mine." He grinned. It was nice to have learnt something about him.
After that, we decided we should probably head back to school. The others would likely be wondering where we were as we normally sit with them for lunch, but obviously we didn't today.
As we came around the corner, and came to the gate, Hikaru grabbed my hand, and pulled me to the side.
"Thanks for sneaking out with me today. It was fun; we should do it again sometime." Hikaru leaned in and gently pecked my cheek. He then linked hands with me and pulled me to the dinner hall. Blushing like mad, I unlinked my hand and smiled at Hikaru. He smiled back and nodded.
However, when we got inside the building though, we ran into Tamaki...
