Chapter 2 - What Is A Host Club?

When study hall came around, me and Haruhi decided to go find a library to study, because libraries are quiet places right? If we both wanted to stay at this school, we had to keep our grades up, and this meant not slacking off ever, not even on day one.

However, all of the libraries sounded like someone was trying to host a bloody music festival in there, so we had to go up another floor. We found the music rooms, and this hallway seemed a little more quieter (ironic much).

We peaked in the first two music rooms but they appeared to be occupied by students doing things that actually had something to do with music. However, when we approached music room number 3, everything was changed.

As I pushed the door open, rose petals flew into my face. I ungracefully began sputtering as one flew right towards my mouth.

As I opened my eyes because I couldn't feel flowers attacking me anymore, I saw six young men in school uniforms spread out on a couch. I stared at them in confusion.

"Hello, Prince and Princess. Welcome to the Ouran HighSchool Host Club." A tall blonde guy with violet eyes strolled over to me and Haruhi and took a lock of my (h/l) (h/c) hair between his fingers. He must be a foreigner. "How may we assist you today?"

Wait, Prince? Did he think Haruhi was a guy? I mean, her get up wasn't extremely on the feminine side but... I thought it was obvious. Maybe it's just me.

"Uh... Sorry, but, what's a host club?" I asked bluntly. However, this was a mistake, as it caused Blondie to give me a lecture about how, in short, 'a host club is when young men with too much time on their hands entertain young ladies with too much time on their hands'. He said it was sort of like a community service.

"So who will it be? Do you prefer the Loli-Shota type, the Strong and Silent type, The Devil type, or the cool type?" He said enthusiastically, motioning to all the different types. Just then, I recognised the twins that were in my class. They're everywhere. The blonde guy walked over to Haruhi, and tilted her chin up so she was looking into his eyes. I could see she was blushing a bit. "Or would you like me, Tamaki Souh, the Prince Charming type?" He leaned in very close to Haruhi.

She became flustered, and began to walk backwards to get away from him. All of the hosts were laughing, and so was I a little bit, until Haruhi stumbled, and knocked over a pretty blue vase. I gasped in shock as it hit the ground and smashed. Everyone went silent.

"Aww man, you've gone and done it now." Groaned the twins in unison. Creepy.

"We were going to auction that off starting at 8 million yen." Said "the cool type".

"E-Eight m-m-million yen?!" Haruhi cried out in disbelief. I stared wide eyed at the vase which was lying broken on the floor.

"Well, I guess there is a way you could repay us..." Tamaki spoke up, looking very deep in thought. "If you worked for the host club!"

"Well... If that's the only way..." Haruhi reluctantly agreed. This meant she would have to pretend to be a guy.

"Wait! If she has to get stuck working here, I'll help too!" I cried, not really thinking my heroic decision through.

"Great idea!" Cheered Tamaki, "The debt will be paid quicker, and not to mention, we now have a super cute maid working for us!" He ran over to me and pinched my cheeks as if he was my great aunt or something.

"Don't you think we should introduce ourselves?" Mentioned the little blonde guy. Tamaki then ran around introducing all of hosts. The twins were called Hikaru and Kaoru, the guy with glasses was called Kyouya. I didn't remember their full names as they were very long, but the nicknames of the really tall guy and the small guy were Mori and Honey. So as I'm lazy, I only remembered the nicknames.

The twins went to a door at the back of the room and came back out with a maid outfit and chucked it to me. I went to the changing room at the back and changed into it. It went down to about mid-thigh, with a small lacy apron on the front. It came with a head piece which I just held in my hand. I stuffed my dress in a plastic bag.

"Is this really necessary?" I asked as I came out of the changing room and stood before everyone. Kaoru was blushing a tiny bit looking at me, which made me feel more self conscious.

"KYAAA! My daughter is looking so cute!~" Tamaki squealed as he flung his arms around me and squeezed me super tight.

"Tamaki... Can't bre- Wait what, daughter?" I looked at him confusedly. He just laughed and held me tighter, telling me how cute I was. I rolled my eyes.

"So, you're first job as a maid can be to clean up this mess."Kyouya motioned towards the smashed vase on the floor once Tamaki had set me free. I nodded, and Mori silently passed me a a dustpan and brush.

While I was clearing up, I could hear Tamaki giving Haruhi a lecture on how to be a good host and whatnot. I can't believe he can't tell she's a girl, but maybe I'm just observant and he's really dense.

That study hall, instead of studying, I walked around, helping the hosts, delivering cakes to Honey, and chatting with all the "customers". In all honesty, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy myself a tiny bit.

Once all of the girls had left, and just the host club remained, I took my weird little head piece off and let down my hair from it's tight bun. I sighed as I walked over to everyone, Tamaki having a fit.

"How could you guys not tell me Haruhi was a girl?!" He was shouting at the top of his lungs. I rolled my eyes for about the millionth time this afternoon. We explained to him, and the hosts told us how they only noticed part way through as well. Turns out me and Haruhi are the only non-idiots in here after all. And maybe Kyouya too, he looks smart.

I went to the backroom to get my dress back, before grabbing my phone. I had 5 texts from my mom, saying things like, 'Where are you'. I realised it was half an hour after school had ended. That meant my mom had been waiting outside the school for nearly half an hour. I gathered my things and began to sprint towards the exit.

"Wait where are you going?" Asked Kaoru, grabbing my wrist and stopping me.

"Why you leaving so soon?" Added on Hikaru, coming round the other side of me and leaning casually on my shoulder. I shook them off and carried on towards the door.

"My mom's been waiting outside for ages because I forgot to tell her I was staying so let me go!" and before they could say another word to me (that I could hear) I walked straight out of the host club and legged it outside. This meant running down 2 flights of stairs, which was not good for me. I saw my mom's car, and launched myself inside.

"Why are you so late? And what are you wearing?" She asked me as I did up my seatbelt.

"No reason." I replied as we began driving. I was still panting from running that marathon. Mom didn't believe me though, and continued to ask, until I told her the whole shebang. This just made her laugh at me.

"Well as long as you're not doing dirty things with boys, it's all good." She warned and I rolled my eyes. As if I'd want to do anything with those self centered rich kids...
