Astrid's POV 

Yes, Hiccup asked me out. Now the only thing I was worried about was what I was going to wear. I had couple of days before our date, and I was going through my wardrobe. Mostly jeans, leggings, a few skirts and tops. No dresses. I sighed. 

"I could've sworn I had one in here." I said to myself. I kept looking through my closet and drawers I finally found one. I took it out smiling and frowned at the site of it. It was long and flowy.  It also was not my size, anymore. I realized it was a dress I've had for years. I sighed putting it down. "Nothing." 

I grabbed my phone and texted one of the girls I was becoming good friends with, Leah. 

A: Hey, Can you help me with something? 

L: Hey, sure. What's up?

A: I need a dress for my date with Hiccup. He told me to dress up. 

L: Awesome! I'll come pick you up! 

A: Thanks!! 

I grabbed a jacket and my bag and went to wait for Leah outside. 

When Leah got there I got in the car and smiled at her. 

"Hey." I said. 

"Hey, so shopping?" She asked and I nodded. 

"I need a dress." I told her. 

"I know the perfect place." She said smiling. 

After about 15 minutes we got to the mall. We walked in and found a store that sold nice dresses. I sighed at the fact that it looked expensive. I took out my phone and went to my bank account. I saw that there about $1200. I took out rent which was about $650. Than the other bills, and groceries, and I was left with just about $100. I sighed. 'Don't get anything too expensive.' I thought. 

Leah was looking through one of the racks and pulling out some dresses. 

"What about these?" She asked. I looked up and walked over to her. 

"Definitely not pink. I was thinking a dark blue or black." I told her. I started looking through a rack. I read some of the prices and widened my eyes a bit. I shook my head and went to find a sale rack. I found one after looking around the entire store. I started going through it and found a few dresses. I grabbed them and found Leah and went to the fitting rooms. She sat outside on one of the chairs while I tried one of the black ones on first. I came out and showed her. It was cute. But not really my style. I tried on two more and I had one left. I really liked the last one. It was dark blue, mid thigh, had straps with a collar. The collar had beads on it. The bottom half flowed out. I came out and Leah saw it. 

"What do you think?" I said. Leah gasped and smiled. 

"YES!! It's perfect!" She said. I smiled. 

"I think so too." I said. 

"Do you need shoes?" Leah asked. I looked at her. 

"Probably." I said going back into the fitting room. I put my own clothes back on and left with the dress I was buying. We went to the shoe rack that was on sale as well. I saw a pair of black heels that I fell in love with right away. I saw they were only like $15 because of the sale. The dress was $50. Which was half off it's original price. So I was still spending like $70 after taxes. The cashier bagged the dress and shoes for me and handed it to me and I thanked her. Leah and I headed out. 

Author's POV 

Meanwhile Hiccup went to a jewelry store to get something for Astrid. He walked in and one of the consultants came up to him. 

"Hi, can I help you find something?" She asked. Hiccup smiled at her. 

"I need a piece of jewelry for a girl I'm taking out in a couple of days." He said. She smiled. 

"Just something simple?" 

"Yes, but still beautiful. A necklace or bracelet." 

"Follow me." She said. Hiccup followed her to one of the displays to look at some necklaces and bracelets. He looked at them through the glass and spotted one that caught his eye. He smiled at it, knowing that would be the one he got her. It was just a small bracelet. Silver, with diamonds, and aqua crystals on it. 

"That one. That one is perfect." Hiccup said pointing to it. The consultant smiled and took it out and put in a box for him and wrapped it. 

Hiccup went to pay for it. 

"It will be $500 even." She said. Hiccup took out his credit card and paid for it. She handed him the bag and smiled. "There you are." 

"Thank you." Hiccup said smiling. He took the bag and left. 

Astrid's POV

It was the night of the date, and I was almost ready. I had my hair down in lose curls, light make-up, and my dress on. I found my little black clutch I had to put my phone and keys and wallet in. I grabbed my shoes and went to the door. I knew Hiccup would be here any minute now. I put my black heels on and left the apartment going downstairs. It was only about 6:30pm. I came out of the building and saw Hiccup waiting by the car door and he looked up and saw me, I smiled at him. 

"Wow, Astrid. You look, beautiful." He said blushing lightly. 

"Thank you. You look very handsome yourself." I told him blushing lightly. 

He opened the car door for me and I sat down. He closed the door and went to the other side getting in. We were on our way to the restaurant. 

"Where are we going?" I asked. 

"That m'lady, is a surprise." He said making a turn. 

After a little bit he pulls into a restaurant. I see the name of it 'Bistro Voltaire' and know it's one of the most expensive restaurants in the city. We get out and head inside. There was a hostess standing at a podium. 

"Welcome to Bistro Voltaire, table for two?" She said very friendly. I was looking around at the restaurant and the decorations and set ups. Hiccup was holding my hand and talking to the hostess. 

"There should be a reservation for Haddock." He told her. 

"Haddock." She said looking down the list. "Ah, there it is. This way please." She grabbed two menus and we followed her to our table. Hiccup pulled out my chair and I smiled at him. He took his seat across from me. 

"Your waiter will be with you in a moment." the hostess said before going back to the front. 

I looked around in awe of the place. I noticed Hiccup watching me and smiling. 

"Hiccup, this looks really expensive." I said. 

"Don't worry about it." He said to me. A waiter came to the table. 

"Good evening. What can I get for you to drink tonight?" He asked. I looked at Hiccup and he smiled at me telling me to go first. I smiled back. 

"I'll just have an iced tea, thank you." I said. 

"Okay, and for you sir." The waiter said asking Hiccup. 

"I'll have an iced tea too actually. Thanks." He said. 

"Alright, I'll be back shortly with your drinks." The waiter said leaving. 

I opened the menu to read it and saw the prices of food. I was shocked. It was like $40 for one meal. As I was scanning the menu, Hiccup piped up. 

"You can get whatever you want. Okay?" He told me. I smiled at me. 

"Hiccup, this is really expensive. Are you sure this is okay?" 

"It's fine, Astrid. Don't worry about it." He smiled. I smiled back. The waiter came back after a bit with our drinks and we ordered our food. We talked about everything, while we ate. Life, school, family, ourselves. It was 9:00pm now and we decided to order dessert. 

"I have something for you." Hiccup said. I looked at him. 

"Hiccup, you already took me to the most expensive restaurant. You don't need to give me a gift." 

"But I want too." He said pulling out a box. It was about a medium size, and I was curious of what it was. I looked up at him. He handed it to me and I took it. 

"Open it." He said. I looked at him and than at the box, I opened it and gasped a little. 

"Hiccup." I said. It was diamond bracelet with aqua crystals. "Is it real?" I asked him. He nodded. i closed it and handed it back to him. He looked at me confused. "I can't accept that." 

"Why not?" Hiccup said taking the box. 

"I'm not worth all of this, Hiccup. I'm not worth this restaurant or the bracelet." I told him. He opened the box and took the bracelet out. He put it on my wrist for me and I looked at him. 

"You're right. You're not worth any of this." He said clipping it. I looked at him. He held my hand and looked at me in the eyes. I looked at his. "You're worth way more than that to me." He said. I smiled at him. I leaned over and kissed his cheek. 

"Thank you." I said. 


Later that night, Hiccup brought me to a park. 

"What are we doing here?" I asked. 

"Just because it's nice out." He said. I smiled. He held my hand and we were walking around together. I shivered a little. I think Hiccup noticed because next thing I knew he was putting his jacket on me. I smiled at him. 

After a little while Hiccup brought me home. I got out of the car and was carrying my shoes and clutch in one hand. I still had his jacket on and he was holding my other hand. He walked me up to my apartment. We stopped at the door. I took off his jacket and handed it to him. He was taller than me and I didn't mind. 

"Thank you, for tonight Hiccup. It meant a lot to me, and for the bracelet. It's beautiful." I told him. He smiled. I was leaning against my door and he had one of his hands on the door beside me leaning in a little. 

"You're welcome m'lady." He said. I looked up at him and I may eyes met emerald green ones. I could feel my cheeks heating up a little bit. He leaned in closer and the next thing I knew his lips were on mine and my body filled with a warm feeling and I didn't hesitate to kiss back. I wrapped my arms around his neck and his were around my waist. We kissed for a little while before breaking it to breathe. I smiled at him. Hiccup put his forehead against mine smiling. "Goodnight m'lady." He said. I smiled.

"Goodnight Hiccup." I said. I kissed his cheek and than watched him leave. After he left I opened my door and went inside. I closed it and leaned against the door smiling. I let out a happy sigh. My smile turned into a frown when I heard my mom's voice. 

"Where were you?" She spat. I looked over and she had a bottle of wine in her hand. 

"On a date. Why do you care?" I said. 

"Because I'm your mother." 

"Well than act like one." I said. She glared at me. 

"Don't talk to me like that." I just rolled my eyes and went to my room. I changed into sweat pants and a baggy t-shirt and tied my hair up into a messy bun. I took my make-up off and my contacts out and put on my black rimmed glasses. I headed back out of my room and my mom was in the kitchen getting another bottle of wine. I opened the cupboard and got a glass and went to the sink to get some water. I went back to my room and sat on my bed. I grabbed my phone and texted Hiccup. 

A: Thanks again for tonight. I wish I could be with you all the time. 

H: :) You're welcome m'lady. Anytime you want we can hang out. 

I was about to respond when I heard something break. I brought my phone with me and went to the living room. 

"Would you stop breaking things!" I said to my mom. She looked at me. "You're being so irresponsible and immature. You don't even have a job anymore. I'm the one paying for rent and all the bills and food and all your alcohol and crap. Why can't you be the mother here and let me be the daughter?" She glared at me. 

"I raised you, your entire life. I saved you from your father who wanted to beat you, and your saying I'm not a good mother?!"

"You may have done that, but once we moved you hated me! You could've cared less what I did or where I ended up. You just started seeing guy, after guy, forgetting about your daughter. You started going to bars every night and buying alcohol to have at home all the time! How is that being a mother!" 

"You don't know what you're talking about! You ungrateful girl!" She was screaming at me now and I screamed back. 

"All you do is get drunk and sleep around! You're a slut mom! What girl wants a slut as a mother! I have no one to look up too. I take care of myself because you're to busy getting drunk and sleeping around." I shouted at her. She grabbed my arm and slammed me against the wall. 

"Don't talk to me like that. Don't call me that. You'll pay." 

"Oh really? How? What are you gonna do to me?" She backed away from me and found her purse. I started to walk away. 

"Turn around."she said. I turned back and looked at her shocked at what she had in her hand. "You're ungrateful, you know that? Something else you should know. I never wanted to have a child anyway." I looked at her and heard the click. 

"Mom. Don't." I said staring at the gun that was in her hands. 

"You can't stop me." She said. She started to press the trigger and I ran over and grabbed her up and moved it so it shot the wall. I guess the neighbours heard this and called 911. Reason being that my mom kept shooting. I tried to hide, and get away. But she cornered me. 

"Mom, you'll regret this." 

"No I won't." She said shooting again. I moved but I wasn't fast enough, I felt the bullet hit me. It hit me between my shoulder and collar bone. I screamed in pain falling to the floor holding it. I looked at my mom. I heard banging on the front door and it got busted open. I was on the floor and looked to see, it was police officers. They did what they needed too and put my mom in handcuffs. Paramedics came in and rushed over to me and saw the gunshot. 

"I want Hiccup." I told one of the paramedics. 

"Who's Hiccup?" They asked. I saw my phone not that far and reached for it wincing in pain. I grabbed it and unlocked it. I got it to my contacts and hit Hiccup's name and handed it to the paramedic. He took it and called Hiccup. 

H: Hello?

P: Is this Hiccup?

H: Yes. 

P: I'm a paramedic at Astrid Hofferson's house right now. She was shot by her mom. She would like you to meet us at the hospital for her. 

H: Yes. Of course.

They hung up and he handed me my phone and got me on a stretcher. I saw the police take my mom out and put her into the back of a police car while they loaded me into the ambulance. I was loosing quite a bit of blood from the gun shot and they turned the sirens on and hooked me up to stuff in the ambulance and continued checking me over. All I was hoping for was to see Hiccup at the hospital.

So this took me like 3 and a half hours to write! Also it's over 2700 words!!! WOO!!!
