Flashback

"Mom! Stop!" I screamed. My mother was following me around the apartment we were in and I was trying to get her to stop and leave me alone. She was drunk. Again, and I knew what that normally resulted in when I was around.

A beating that I didn't deserve.

She was yelling at me and I would yell back. That got me a smack across the face.

It went on for a while and she finally grabbed my arm hard enough leaving a mark and shoved me into the bedroom. She grabbed a belt and I tried to get away but she locked the door. I grabbed my phone from my pocket and dialed 911. By the time they answered I managed to tell them my mom was drunk and starting to beat me. I had to leave the phone and try and move around the room. I'm sure the dispatcher was worried and trying to track my phone.

My mom and I were yelling and every time I said something back to hear it got me a good beating. My mom was pretty strong surprisingly and since I kept trying to run away she grabbed my leg and snapped it. I screamed. My mom kept hitting me, kicking me, using anything she could to hurt me, including her belt.

There was knocking on the door and I heard yelling from some men. I heard the door get slammed open and then the banging on the bedroom door too. I was on the floor and the room started to look blurry. They got in the room and it was some cops and paramedics. The paramedics ran over to me as the cops grabbed my mom putting her in handcuffs. They started to attach things to me and I could hear them talking and asking me questions. I couldn't find the strength to answer them. Everything was starting to sound distant.

Then everything went black.

Astrid's POV

I slowly came to my senses and heard the continuous sound of a beep.

'beep...beep...beep...beep.'

I tried to move and my one leg felt restricted. I felt things in my arms and I started to open my eyes. It was bright and I let my eyes adjust.

I was in a hospital room. I looked around slightly confused as to why I was there. There was no one else in the room. I saw my right leg elevated and in a cast. I looked at my hands and arms and saw multiple tubes and some bruises.  I felt oxygen in my nose and my head hurt too. I clicked the red button on the side of my bed. A nurse came running in and saw I was awake, she left the room again.

They came back and it was the doctor and the nurse. The doctor came close to my bed and sat down.

"Miss Hofferson," He started.

"Astrid. Call me Astrid." I said. He smiled a little.

"Astrid, do you know what happened?" He asked. I shook my head.

"No, but I have a pretty good idea. Was it my mom?" I asked. He nodded.

"Yes. You were brought in unconscious and you've been in a coma for two weeks." He said. I looked a little surprised.

"Am I okay?" I asked.

"You'll be fine. You're leg has to be in the cast for another 4 - 6 weeks though. Then you can come and get it taken off." He said. "But I'm gonna do a check-up today and see how you are. If everything looks good then we can send you home." He said. I nodded.

Later that day I was able to go home. They brought me my stuff and I changed into my clothes and grabbed my bag. My aunt came to sign the discharge papers since my mom wasn't allowed near me right now and I left with my aunt to go back to my apartment. She dropped me off and left and I sighed. Knowing my mom will probably be in the house, drunk again. My aunt told me that her boyfriend had bailed her out of jail. Which didn't really surprise me. I headed upstairs to my apartment and my mom wasn't home. There was note on the kitchen counter that said.

'Welcome home, I'll be gone for the day so help yourself.' ~ mom

I rolled my eyes and opened the fridge. There was no food. Just alcohol. I sighed and tried to reach for the jar I kept hidden in one of the cupboards so my mom couldn't find it. It had cash in it that I had been putting away for years. I grabbed $40 and grabbed my phone and headed to the living room. I ordered some pizza and then turned on the T.V. as I waited. When the pizza got there I got up on my crutches and got to the door. I asked him to put it down on the table and he did so. I thanked him and paid him. I hopped back over to the couch and opened the box of pizza and bottle of pop/soda. I poured some into the glass I had on the table and started to eat my pizza.

It was getting late and Astrid cleaned everything up. She hobbled with her crutches to her bedroom and closed the door. She got ready for bed and went to sleep.

It was the first day of senior year at school. I woke up to my alarm and sighed. I got up and got dressed. I put on my black jeans that had rips all down them. I grabbed my light blue t-shirt and black leather jacket. I put on a pair of black lace up boots and braided my hair. I went to the kitchen and made some breakfast and ate it. I grabbed my phone and book bag and the keys to the car and left. I got to school and went to find the office. People were staring and talking when I walked by. I ignored them. I got to the office, and the secretary helped me. She gave me some forms to fill out and gave me my locker number and combination. She saw the classes I was in and got me my books. I thanked her and headed to my first class. There was an empty desk in the back and I went and sat down.

I got through the day and headed back home. I reached into my bag and pulled out a pack of smokes. I stared at them for a minute. Remembering the dream I had while in my coma. I threw them out into a trash can along the sidewalk. I got home and went to my room and started working on homework. My mom hadn't been home for a few days and I could've cared less.

Later in the night I had a bath and got ready for bed. I crawled under my blankets and went to sleep.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been about a month and I had walked to school that day, since my mom had taken the car the night before and wasn't home. I was walking in the hall to my next class when a couple of cheerleaders pushed me.
"Oops." They said. "Didn't see you." They laughed as they walked away.
I rolled my eyes and started to pick up my books off the floor. I went to reach for one and saw another hand. I looked up to meet a pair of bright green eyes. I took my book from the person.
"Thanks." I said. It was a boy, who looked to be my age. He had bright green eyes, auburn hair and freckles. He gave me a small smile and he helped me up from the floor.
"I'm Hiccup." He said putting his hand out. I shook it and held my books and just stared at him for a minute. "Is there something wrong?" he asked.
"What? oh, no, sorry. It's just, you look really familiar. Your name sounds familiar too." I said.
"Really? Well my dad is the mayor." He said. I smiled a little.
"Yeah." I said. The bell rang and I sighed. "I'm gonna be late."
"What class do you have?" Hiccup asked.
"History." She said.
"Me too." He said.
We walked to class together. "So, what's your name?" He asked.
"Astrid." I said. "I'm new here."
"That's why I've never seen you here." He said. I smirked.
We went to class, and then sat together at lunch. We realized we had all of our classes together. The end of the day, Hiccup asked if I needed a ride and I accepted. We were just talking and getting to know each other.
"So, what about your parents?" Hiccup asked. I just sat in silence for a moment before answering.
"Um, well, my mom and I left my dad when I was five years old. So he's not really in my life, and my mom...well...let's just say she's not in great shape." I said starting at my hands in my lap. Hiccup stayed quiet for a moment. "What about you?" I asked.
"Oh, um. My mom died when I was little, and my dad is Mayor, so he's pretty busy. Not around very often. He's good friend Gobber was kind of like a dad to me growing up." Hiccup said making a turn. He turned into a Starbucks. "Do you want something?" He asked pulling into the drive thru. "My treat." He said with a smile. I smirked.
"Pumpkin spice latte?" I said. He smiled and nodded and ordered mine and his. He handed me mine and I thanked him. He kept driving and I told him where to go. He got to my apartment and I thanked him. He handed me a piece of paper and I took it and read it. It was his phone number. I smiled. We said goodbye and I went up to my apartment. I went to work on homework and texted Hiccup so he had my number. I was up late and then went to bed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It had been a few months and it was the new year now. I was at my locker putting some books away and Hiccup came up to me.

"H-hey Astrid. Um, I, uh, I wanted to tell you, that I, I like you, a lot, and I was wondering if um, if you wanted, um, wanted to, go, go out on a date with me." He said stumbling and being all nervous and awkward about it. I smiled and laughed a little. I could see a hint of a blush on his face. I took his face in my hands and kissed him. He settled into the kiss and kissed me back after a minute and I broke it and smiled.

"I would love to go out with you." I said. He smiled that cute dorky smile he had. The bell rang and I grabbed my books and closed my locker. I grabbed Hiccup's hand and we walked to class together.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hiccup asked for us to go out on Saturday night. I had gone shopping with a friend and bought a new dress and shoes for the date. I put them on and it was a dark blue, mid thigh dress with straps and a collar. There was white beads on the collar too. The bottom half of the dress flowed out. I went and put on a little bit of makeup and curled my hair in loose curls. I grabbed a small black purse I had and put my stuff I needed in it. I put on my black heels that I bought and had a text from Hiccup that he was heading up to my apartment. I looked in the mirror again and made sure I looked nice. I heard a knock and left my bedroom turning off the light. I answered the door and Hiccup was in a pair of dress pants and dress shoes. He had a white shirt on and black jacket. He looked at me and gasped a little.
"You look beautiful." He said. He handed me some flowers and I smiled and thanked him. I put them in a vase and then Hiccup and I left. He drove us to an expensive restaurant and we walked inside. Hiccup was holding my hand. He talked to the hostess about having a reservation and she brought us to our seat. We ordered our food and drinks and talked. It had been a couple of hours. Hiccup pulled out a box and handed it to me. I opened it and gasped a little.
"Hiccup." I said. It was a diamond bracelet with aqua crystals. "Is it real?" I asked him. He nodded. I closed it and handed it back to him. He looked at me confused. "I can't accept that."
"Why not?" Hiccup said taking the box.
"I'm not worth all of this. Hiccup, I'm not worth this restaurant or the bracelet." I told him. He opened the box and took the bracelet out. He put it on my wrist for me and I looked at him.
"You're right. You're not worth any of this." he said clipping it. I looked at him. He held my hand and looked at me in the eyes. I looked at his. "you're worth way more than that to me." He said. I smiled at him. I leaned over and kissed his cheek.
"Thank you." I said.
Later, at the end of the night, it was getting late. Hiccup drove me back and walked me upstairs. We had gone to the park afterwards and had spent more time together. We got up to my apartment and I sighed. I turned to Hiccup.
"Thank you for tonight Hiccup." It meant a lot to me, and for the bracelet. It's beautiful." I told him. He smiled. I was leaning against my door and he had one of his hands on the door beside me leaning in a little.
"You're welcome m'lady." He said. I looked up at him and I may eyes met emerald green ones. I could feel my cheeks heating up a little bit. He leaned in closer and the next thing I knew his lips were on mine and my body filled with a warm feeling and I didn't hesitate to kiss back. I wrapped my arms around his neck and his were around my waist. We kissed for a little while before breaking it to breathe. I smiled at him. Hiccup put his forehead against mine smiling. "Goodnight, m'lady." He said. I smiled.
"Goodnight Hiccup." I said. I kissed his cheek and than watched him leave. After he left I opened my door and went inside. I closed it and leaned against the door smiling. I let out a happy sigh. I took off my heels and went to my bedroom. I changed out of my dress and put on my pajamas. I went into the bathroom and washed my makeup off and tied my hair up in a messy bun. I went back to my room and grabbed my phone and sat on my bed and texted Hiccup. I picked up a book and started to read for a bit as well.
I was so happy that Hiccup was mine.
I love Hiccup Haddock.
THE END!!!!
Yes, sadly this is the last chapter of my story! I will be writing an epilogue next! Just so you guys know.
Also - some of you may be thinking "that first date sounds a lot like the other first date." Because it is. It's the exact same. but different outcomes of course.
The original is found in: Chapter 7: First Date
Also, if some of you are confused, I'm gonna clear this up for you for a minute.
So basically the entire story before this point is a dream. Astrid was in a coma from the incident that happened in the flashback from the beginning of this chapter. The entire story before this chapter is a dream that she had while in her coma. So this chapter is like the real time. Hence the title and the re-starting of senior year and re-meeting Hiccup.
I hope that helps you understand it!
Epilogue to come soon! Along with thank you's.
Love you guys!
bye! :)
