"Let your light ignite the spark of others"

I went back to my hostel, feeling tired after the long day and campus and stalking you, so I just ate noodles with a Pepsi bottle and went to bed.

The next day, people at the campus talked about a dance competition that was going to be held in the theatre I saw you previously. They said a dance school organized a game, and the best 5 dancers would get a cash prize and a scholarship in the dance school.

I wondered why I hadn't heard about it since. That I just found out, probably because I spent so much time thinking about you and not actually paying attention to school and everything going on in it.

Attending lectures wasn't all that sweet because you weren't there and no minute passed by without me wondering where you had been. Judging from the way you left yesterday, I thought something had happened to you. Still, I kept reassuring myself that you probably entered into the competition, and you were just getting ready.

This was confirmed when I got to the packed theatre. The competition already began, and students were dancing their hearts out with fake smiles. When it was announced that it was your turn to dance, the theatre went silent.

The spotlight followed you as you walked to the middle of your costume; you looked like a Yoruba goddess. Your hair, makeup, waist beads, ankle beads, and neck beads; they were perfect.

Slowly the music began to play, and you moved your body weakly to the beat. The energy wasn't there. It felt like the stage was empty, like something in you was dead. You tried to twirl, but you missed your step and almost fell; you quickly regained your balance and stayed still.

I drifted my gaze to the judges,  and they look unimpressed at your performance. People were already getting bored with your solo, dance the dramatic pause in the song, making it more obvious. You looked at the crowd, observing everyone, but you stopped when your eyes met mine.

I smiled, and your lips slowly curved into a smile, for the first time that evening. That instant, the song began to play again. I could see the familiar light, even under the spotlight, you danced with fire, your eyes burned with passion as you hit every single beat with your hips,  the smile not fading.

People from corners of the theatre cheered for you, clapping with so much energy and love, the judges looked amazed, and I watched with the brightest smile on my face.

THE END.
