Chapter 2
It's been two days since the dinner at their parents' house. Aashima was in the pack office going through some important documents while her wife was sitting in front of her helping her with them. As they were going through these files, Aashima noticed something in one of the files. Something that made her blood boil. Her sweet, calming scent of sandalwood changed, causing her wife to whimper.
"Aashima! What is it?," Nisha said, her peachy scent tinged with distress.
Aashima stood up from her desk and said in clipped tone, "We have to go to our parents' house, right now." With that she stormed out of her office followed by her confused mate.
--------
Aatish was standing in front of a class of kids who were like him, teaching them sign language. He was a teacher in the school for disabled kids which was called 'Ummeed ki Kiran' or Ray of Hope. He taught human kids to help them communicate with each other. The kids were so attentive, all eager to learn what he had to offer. They sighed together with him. Once his shift was over, he went to the staff room to get his things and left. He was leaving the school campus when he received a text from his sister. It read, 'Come to Dads' house quickly.' Aatish frowned at the text. He was thinking of going to the pack's park to spend some time alone, away from everything. But his sister's message had him change his plans and he made his way to his parents home. Once he was there, he found Nisha standing in the front yard, her features contorted in distress. She looked up when she smelled his scent and released a relived breath, hastily making her way towards him.
"Oh, Aatish. Thank Gosh you are here!," she signed before grabbing his forearm and dragging him towards the home.
When Aatish entered his parents' home, he was hit with a strong smell of burnt sandalwood combined by his dad's calming scent of strawberry and his papa's caramel smell that also smelled burnt right now. He saw his sister sitting in the sofa chair glaring at her parents with barely controlled anger. Abhay was sitting on the couch, his posture screaming power and authority. Beside him was Drishya, who even though was facing two raging alphas, was as calm as the Pacific Ocean.
Drishya smelled the scent of honey and lavender, he looked up and saw Aatish standing at the door. He stood up causing the two alphas locked in staring contest break their gaze and look towards their Luna in question before looking to where he was staring.
As soon as Aashima's eyes landed on Aatish, she got up from her seat and ran towards him to hug him. She let him go and signed, "Aatish, I need to tell you something." She pulled him to where their father was sitting. Once they reached their father and Aashima let go of his hand.
Aashima glared at Abhay, before turning to Aatish as she signed while saying, "Did you know that three days from today, the Eastern pack, that is, the Celestian pack are going to arrive here?"
Aatish nodded.
"Do you know why they are coming here?"
Aatish was hesitant at first before signing, "Yes, I know."
Aashima frowned.
"You know?," she signed as she looked at her baby brother in disbelief.
Aatish nooded.
"Since when?"
"Since last time we had dinner here."
"And you did not tell me about it? Why?"
"I did not want to upset you."
Aashima's frown deepened. Her brother did not tell her about something this important, this drastic, because he was afraid that she might be upset. Aashima closed her eyes and took a deep breath before opening them. She looked straight into her brother's eyes as she commanded while signing, "Tell. Me. Everything."
Aatish took a deep breath before starting.
Flashback (two days ago)
(Trigger warning:- Mention of suicide)
After the dinner was over, Aashima, Nisha and Drishya were sitting in the living room, watching television, while Abhay and Aatish were in the kitchen doing dishes. Aatish was washing the dishes while Abhay dried them and put them away, nervously glancing at Aatish every now and then. They were almost done with the dishes when Abhay stopped doing what he was doing and looked at Aatish. He tapped Aatish's shoulder to get his attention.
Aatish looked up at his father in confusion.
"Can you put down the dishes?," signed Abhay. "I need to talk to you."
Aatish nodded. He washed his hands and dried them then followed his father to his study room. Once they reached there, Aatish went inside followed by Abhay. Aatish looked around the room. It was the same as always. The main wall of the room held a huge painting of a full moon peeking from behind the mountains. There was forest in front of the mountains. Two werewolves, one white and one black, stood facing each other. In front of the wall was situated his father's office desk. There was a stack of files, a paperweight, a desk lamp and a computer placed on the desk. One huge couch and a number of sofa chairs were placed facing the office desk. The huge window on the left wall was open allowing in the cool night breeze. There was a wall shelf behind the couch which was filled with different types of books from all over the world. The room was bathed in white light coming from all lamps hanging in all the corners of the room as well as from the chandelier hanging above the office desk.
"Take a seat, Aatish," said Abhay as he shut the door.
Aatish sat down on the couch. Abhay sat down beside his son. He glanced at the painting, smiling lovingly as if lost in some faraway memory.
"You know, Aatish," he started while signing simultaneously. "That painting of two wolves over there is very special to me. That painting has a story behind it. Once upon a time, there used to be a very rebel werewolf. He was young and had just turned eighteen. He liked roaming around the world. So now that he was an adult, he decided to leave his pack and travel the world. He asked his parents' permission and left. For months he travelled his country to his hearts' content until he happened upon a small pack in the south. It was there that he smelled the most enticing scent of jasmine. That was his mate. He looked around and saw the most beautiful woman he had ever since. Their eyes locked and they knew they will spent the rest of their life together. They started to spend most of the time together. But everything changed when the Alpha of the pack found out about that. He wanted to marry of his daughter to the heir of the most powerful pack of the country. But his daughter fell in love with a commoner. He could not have that. So he locked his daughter in her room. The alpha was broken. He wanted his mate by his side. So he decided to come clean and tell everyone that he was the heir of the pack his mate's father wanted his daughter to marry. But it was too late. That woman had killed herself. The alpha was distraught and he became suicidal. But then came a beacon of hope. A kind, gentle, caring and loving omega who saved that alpha. They became friends and then lovers. Their bond and their love much stronger than that of a mate bond. They mated and are now living their life in bliss with their daughter, their son and another child on the way." He turned to face Aatish. He smiled at his son's confused expression before continuing.
"Son, you know I love you, right. You know that I want the best for you, right" Abhay said as he signed.
Aatish nodded a bit sceptically at where this coversation was going.
Abhay took a deep breath before saying, "The Eastern pack, the Celestial pack has sent a marriage proposal to our pack."
Aatish felt a sense of dread fill him.
"The Alpha of the pack, Pawan Sharma, has an omega brother. His name is Dilip Sharma. He is twenty nine years old. Five years ago he lost his mate in a battle with another pack. He has been depressed, broken and suicidal ever since."
"Why are you telling me this?," signed Aatish.
"Pawan has sent a marriage proposal to our pack. For you. He wants his brother to marry you."
"What! And you agreed? Without asking me first? Pa, how could you?"
"Son, I did not agree. I told him that both Dilip and you should meet and get to know each other."
"But..."
"You don't have to marry him. Just try and help him. Please, son. You can save someone's life."
(End of flash back)
Aashima just sat on the chair holding her mate close to herself. She looked at her parents and her brother. And then she nodded.
