Chapter 10
You moved cautiously through the rubble, heading towards the center of the facility. Kirishima and Bakugou followed close behind you, putting you on edge. "You don't have to walk behind me you know?" You said bitterly, glaring at them. "I'm limping. Not dying."
"Yeah, but if we get ambushed-"
"I'll use my quirk and get away." You cut in.
"You're quirk is out of commission." Bakugou argued.
Your face reddened as you whipped towards him. "Just because you know my weakness doesn't mean you can spot it from a mile away."
"It doesn't take a genius." He shot back.
You furrowed your brow and growled, turning your back and walking away. "Come on losers... we gotta find everyone soon."
"Yeah." Kirishima agreed. The phantom of a grin ghosted his face.
Your ears perked as the sounds of battle grew louder. Your breath caught and you shot into action, darting forward at almost inhumane speed. Your mind shifted gears and you were prepared. Your body didn't shift elements, but you could at least take out a few villains without straining yourself. Bakugou and Kirishima were close behind you as you broke through the plaza.
Your eyes scanned the scenery and you gasped audibly at the sight of your teacher. He was pinned beneath a crude looked creature, it's mouth malformed and beaklike with brain exposed through a layer of glass. Its body was rippling with thick, black muscles. "Aizawa sensei!" You called instinctively.
You succeeded in taking attention off of Aizawa. However it all turned to you. "Get her!" The blue-haired creep bellowed, pointing at me with one of the few hands that wasn't part of his getup.
You yelped, diving sideways a wave of assailants descended. Your eyes scanned the scenery as a blast from behind you blew away the first few people. "You idiot!" Bakugou barked at you.
"Yeah yeah!" You spat.
As you looked for something to fight with, your eyes caught on familiar green hair. Your eyes widened as they met with Izuku, your heart fluttering as you noticed his location. "Bakugou! Cover me!" You ordered, scrambling to your feet.
"What-" He didn't have time to deny as you darted quickly, aiming for the body of water.
"(Y/N)! What are you do-"
You jumped, diving swiftly into the water and disappearing. It didn't take much to adapt and when you opened your eyes you felt rejuvenated. "Water!!!" You cried out in glee, rising from the surface as completely water.
Your hand rose with the water, the body manipulating and shifting with your will. "Take this fuckface!" You screamed, swiping the adversaries in one fail swoop. They screamed out as you sent them sky high. You cackled maniacally, happy to be in with your strongest element.
When adapted to water, you didn't use much, or really any energy unless you were actively changing the water itself. It moved physically as easily as you moved a finger, the crushing force only weakened when you were faced with incredible heat or cold.
"(Y/N) be careful!" Izuku warned.
You looked to your brother and saw as he, Tsu, and Minata struggled to maintain in the water. You hissed to yourself and pushed then from the water on to the stable land away from the fight. "Get everyone safe!" You ordered. You folded your hand into a fist and smirked. "I got this now that I'm in my element."
"You have to be careful! That guy is bad news!" Izuku warned.
"Don't worry bro." You cooed cockily.
Grinning, you went back to your enemies, taking them down swiftly. Bakugou and Kirishima fought a little ways off of you, mostly those who you smacked in their direction.
Your smile was permanent and your eyes wide in insane delight. It was the lesser downside to this part of your quirk. With all the power, you often were a little unstable as you fought. One time it resulted in leaving a kid in the hospital. Your ears drowned out the world as you focused on sending villains, one by one, on their own free flying lesson.
"Nomu!" The freak called. "Take care of Eraser head. I'd like to rid us of such a bothersome pest."
Your eyes darted to him, his body moving like lightning then suddenly sitting in front of you. You sucked in a short breath then smirked. You couldn't hold water.
His hand whipped forward gripping your cheeks. Your eyes widened. Your body dropped out of the water and the skin from your face started to flake away, leaving large red gashes on your cheeks. You screamed before you even registered your own thoughts. You could hear Aizawa yelling before suddenly the guy's quirk stopped. You pulled back and cradled your right cheek where blood trickled through your fingers.
Your hands trembled as you looked up. He reached for your face again, Aizawa crying out as the Nomu character smashed his head into the ground. You froze, unable to move in sheer fear. You blinked and everyone was gone, except for one. You saw a mop of green hair. Your hands gripped tightly at the side of the water, barely holding on as your brother swing a heavy blow.
"Izuku..." You muttered in a low tone.
When the dust cleared, you both sucked in a tight breath. You almost screamed as the beak of a mindless freak sat between Izuku's fist and then handy guy. His face fell but his arm wasn't damaged like it usually was.
You began to laugh, tears on your face. "Wow kid, you could have killed me with a blow like that. I don't like that too much. Nomu, kill him." He ordered.
Izuku risked his life for yours, throwing his all into an attack but getting no where. You grit your teeth, time slowing as you shoved Izuku behind you and crossed your arms before you. Your mind was too scrambled to focus on adapting. You cried out as Nomu's ginormous palm clung to your stomach, squeezing at you as you screamed in pain. You could hear as ribs snapped beneath your suit, blood spraying over your lip.
"Oh, wrong one I guess. Aw well it'll do." Blue shrugged. You kicked your legs as hard as you could but it didn't nothing to save you. His grip tightened and you cried out again. "(Y/N)!!!" Izuku cried out.
You opened your eyes again and everything seemed blurry through thick tears. You saw ash blonde hair and crimson eyes. It seemed to calm you. You smiled before coughing more blood.
"I don't think so!" A heroic tone boomed.
Suddenly your body was airborne and a strong, arm caught you easily. You winced, gasping for breath as you were sat down on the ground, laid out. Your head rolled to the side and you looked at familiar golden hair, accompanied by the huge smile turn away from you.
You watched as he approached the creature that crushed you, his speech much too distant for you to understand. Izuku was paralyzed in both fear and awe. What a geek. You laughed, wincing often in pain.
Someone gripped your arm and you looked at then drowsily. Blonde hair. Crimson eyes. "Hey blonde." You winced, forcing a smile.
"Stop talking idiot, you're hurt." He said bitterly. Wet trickled on to your arm and you were confused.
"Look, I'm really tired. Make me a promise won't you?" You hummed.
"What?! No I-"
Ignoring his response you kept going. "When I wake up, we better have won. I have a date." You snickered. "I hate the guy but he tries."
You could feel the arms that wrapped around you, moving you somewhere a little more quiet and out of the way. Your eyelids drifted and you laughed. "I swear to God. I'll be so pissed if I die like this." You teased.
"You won't die." They snapped in an annoyed tone.
"I could."
"You won't."
"How do you know?"
"Like you said, you have a date."
"Oh yeah. Well, I don't know how internal bleeding works but I'll try not to-"
Your eyes closed and you didn't open them again. You felt cold. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
You woke suddenly, heart racing from violent dreams and nightmares. A heart monitor was beeping frantically, trying to keep pace with your own. You heaved your breath, holding your chest as you focused on the edge of the bed.
"Izuku... Bakugou... where is everyone? Are they okay?!" You asked.
You looked around, the room empty except for one startled nurse. Your awakening must have been more sudden than you intended. "M-Miss (L/N) please calm down. You have extensive injuries."
"Are my friends okay?!" You yelped, gripping your mattress as you looked at her.
"Ma'am please-"
"(Y/N)!!!" Both of your eyes fell to the door as several students tumbled in. Izuku was the first to scramble up, darting to your side and looked at you. "(Y/N)! We were so worried! I can't believe you're still alive."
"Of course she's still alive Deku." Bakugou growled.
You sighed in relief and fell back in your bed. Your laugh was low, but just enough to be heard. "I'm happy nothing changed while I was out." You teased.
Uraraka gripped your hand and wrapped you in a hug. "You really did have us worried (Y/N). You were really hurt."
"Technically I still am, just healing." You joked.
Izuku sighed. "Can you take anything seriously?" He asked.
"Lives." You said frankly.
He rolled his eyes and Uraraka giggled. You looked around, most of your classmates trying to wedge into the room. "Who all got hurt?" You asked, trying to summon up the roster from memory.
"Well, there were several casualties but they weren't that severe. Scrapes and bruises at best." Iida informed you. "You're the one who suffered the most severe injuries."
"What?!" You snapped, covering your face. "How embarrassing..."
Your class seemed surprised by your reaction. Your hand brushed the bandage on your right cheek and your brow furrowed. "Why is my face bandaged?" You muttered.
You took hold of the bandage, making Iida jump at you, yelling not to remove it. Too late now. A chorus of collective gasp hung in the air as you let the wrap fall to the ground. "Is it that bad?" You asked sheepishly, unable to see it. "Izuku, let me see your phone."
He handed over his phone without question and you looked at yourself in the camera. A large scar was starting to form on your face, making it look like shattering porcelain. "Geez, it does look that bad." You laughed, giving Izuku his phone and laughing.
"It's not that bad!" Uraraka jumped in, smiling cheerily.
"Sure it is." You shrugged. "Good thing I like scars then."
The statement causes confusion and you brushed it off. You brushed your hair from your face, forgetting you'd given your ribbon to Bakugou. It was weird having it hang around your face. For a moment everyone just stared at you. You shifted in the bed uncomfortably and coughed. "So, um, what's up?" You asked, trying to break the silence.
Iida cleared his throat, sensing the tension and turned to the class. "Come on. (Y/N) needs her rest to recover completely. We should be going."
Silently you made note to thank Iida later. Your peers leaked out of the room slowly, each muttering a condolence or bit of encouragement as they left. You grabbed Izuku's wrist as he turned to leave, causing him to freeze.
"(Y/N)?" He asked quietly, turning to look at you.
"Hey, before you go... could you remind me what happened after I passed out? I'd like to know what happened after All Might showed up."
"Sure, but in return you have to tell me something."
"Deal." You chirped, smiling.
He sat at your bedside and began to explain what happened, from All Might's battle to the villains retreat from campus once the villains showed up. You felt proud. All of your friends fought off the 'League of Villains' the best they could.
And then there was you, taken down by a squeeze of some brute's fist. Your expression slipped and for a moment you looked at your hands. You remembered them shaking. In fear. What a hero you were...
"Hey, (Y/N), it's turn for a question." Izuku announced, taking your attention.
"Um, yeah. Sure. Shoot." You said with faux enthusiasm.
"Why did you jump in front of me, if you knew you couldn't shift again?"
Your breath caught in your throat and you fell silent. You lowered your gaze and turned your head so you looked up at the ceiling. "I don't know. I guess I'm an idiot or something." You teased, forcing a chuckle. He didn't seem satisfied with your answer and you sucked in a deep breath. "Izuku, I guess I just... didn't want to see you get hurt. I watched that Nomu guy take down Aizawa sensei and I just felt so... scared? I'm not sure if that's the word. But when Hand freak said to kill you I didn't feel like I was moving until I already had. I didn't want to lose the only family I had." You laughed, a tear sliding down your cheek away from your brother, "Imagine if Mom found out her only son died. Her entire world would collapse. And I wouldn't be able to hold it together. Then I'd be left all alone again. Kinds selfish huh? What kinda hero am I?"
You finally said it aloud. You sent him a glance and he looked down at his hands. "Do you remember when I tried to save Kacchan from that sludge villain?" He asked.
You nodded. "I screamed at you for an hour for being an idiot."
"Well, when I did that, I did the same thing. I just started moving before I could think. A hero told me, that the courage it took to do that is what gave me the bearings to be a hero. He told me I was brave enough to launch myself into danger even if it would mean my life. The same applies to you, I think."
You smiled, closing your eyes. "You know what, I think you're right." You hummed. "How else would a loser like you get this far?"
"H-Hey!" He stuttered, looking at you with wide eyes.
You laughed, pulling him into a hug and ignoring the pain in your chest. Damn broken ribs. "Thanks Izuku." You said softly. "I needed to hear that."
He hugged you gently and then you sat back in your bed. "When do you think they'll let me out of here?" You asked.
"Well, with recovery girl on it you could probably go to class after tonight. Broken ribs aren't that hard for her."
"What about internal bleeding?" You asked.
"Just bruising." He laughed. "You'll be sore but good enough for class. But you're scar..."
"It'll be fine." You cut in. "I always did want a sick scar. Just didn't think I'd get it before gradation."
Izuku rolled his eyes. Standing, he started towards the door. "You better get your rest. I'll bring you your uniform in the morning."
You nodded and grinned. "Thanks Izuku."
"Goodnight."
The door clicked shut behind him and you rested your head back on the pillow. Your eyes were glued to the ceiling, your eyes heavy. "I guess it all worked out." You muttered to yourself. "I'm glad everyone is okay."

I yelped when I saw Kacchan waiting outside the door, leaning against the wall and staring at his phone. He looked up at me and snarled. "Deku, when is she going to be out?" He snapped, tone more gentle than it usually was.
"O-Oh, well she should be back in class in the morning..." I stuttered, looking down.
I hesitated when I saw (Y/N)'s ribbon in his hand. It had belonged to her mother. She barely even let me touch it. "Why do you have her ribbon?" I asked, pointing to the strip in his hand. He clutched it tightly and shoved it in his pocket.
"She gave it to me." He growled.
His red eyes seemed intent on holding on to it and I gulped. "O-Okay. Goodnight Kacchan."
I rushed away, leaving Kacchan in front of the nurse's office.
