Rollercoaster

I gave you peace
and it terrified you.
You wanted the ups, downs,
and to never know what was coming next.
One day when you're a real man,
instead of 23,
you'll think back with regret
of when you were younger
and let me go.
Knowing then,
you were just like all
the boys at the fair
that only had eyes for the rollercoaster
and how eventually
the butterflies they gave fade
or become motion sickness.
Now you're older and
tired of traveling fairs,
wishing you'd settled down
with my consistency.
