Chapter Four

"Life isn’t always sunshine and butterflies. Sometimes you got to learn to smile through the pain.."

~

Three months.

It has been nearly three months since me and Sakura have been together. And I can't be anymore happier.

Today, is her birthday. She's turning 18 so, I already prepared a surprise for her.

I'm going to ask her to marry me.

I know it's a little too early for this but, I'm absolutely sure about my decision. I want to marry her.

I have never been so in love with someone in my whole entire life before. I know I love her, and just want this, us, to last forever and ever.

Let's just pray to God that she's ready for this though.

Tonight, I plan to take her out to a five-star restaurant in town. I already made a reservation, and also informed the restaurant management about my proposal.

Early this afternoon, I stuffed the velvet red box which contained the ring, inside my pocket.

The only thing that's left now, was a certain pinkette.

Knock. Knock.

I bravely knocked on the front door of the Haruno's residence, only to be greated by a man who I suppose is Sakura's father. "Good evening Sir." I bowed in respect "Is your daughter th-"

"You must be my daughter's boyfriend, am I correct?"

Damn. I forgot that Sakura's father is strict, based from the stories my girlfriend often tell me about.

"Yes Sir. My name is Uchiha Sasuke and-"

"You better not do anything bad to her, or else." He said and gave me a glare.

"Mr. Haruno, I assure you. I will never try anything on your daughter. I love her, and I'm pretty sure I deserve your trust, for I respect her with everything, down to the very last drop of blood my body has."

He then sighed and smiled. "Very well then."

As soon as our conversation finished, a stunning female in her elegant peach thigh length dress came to us. Her short baby pink hair was let down and pinned at the back with a golden cherry blossom hair pin.

She looks amazing tonight- scratch that! She looks freaking amazing every single day!

"So, shall we?"

She giggled a bit and pecked her father's cheek before saying goodbye, and ran towards me.

As we were in the car..

"Hey Sasu-kun, Why won't you start the engine yet?" She cutely asked. I wanted to smirk but tried to hold it back and frowned instead. "You didn't kiss me yet." I answered.

She blushed and quickly pecked my lips. "There! Now can we go?" I shook my head and cupped her face. "Tsk. Haven't anyone taught you how to kiss before?"

Then, I smiled and placed my lips on hers. Our lips sinked in motion as it became passionate. I slid my tongue inside her mouth and explored every inch of it.

"...S-Sasu-kun.." she breathe in between our kiss. I pulled away. "Hn?"

Smack!

"Oww! Sh*t! Blossom, what was that for?!" I cried in pain. Damn, my girl really knows how to spell the word 'mood swings'! "Tsk. Baka! We can't make-out just only ten feet away from my house! What if Dad sees us?!"

I sighed and pecked her cheek instead. "Fine. We'll just do it later.. to where no one can see us." I seductively whispered and gave her a wink. She turned beet red after that. "S-Sasuke! Stop seducing me!"

I chuckled and started the engine. "Happy Birthday, Babe." But before I could drive my car, she suddenly poked my cheek.

I turned to her and she whined "Sasu-kun, can I drive?" I cocked an eyebrow and questioned, "Do you even know how to?" She beamed me one of those smiles and said "Of course I can, silly! I'm already eighteen."

Smirking, I only shook my head as she pouted. "Pweeeaaase Sasu-kun??" Oh crap. Tell me, how can I resist such a cute face? She has that great of an effect to me! I could even buy Konoha for her!

"Hn."

"Yeay!" I unbuckled my seatbelt and switched places with her. "I love you Sasuke-kun!"

"I love you more, Sakura."

><><

I assisted Sakura as she drove down the road. She was smiling at me the whole time as she drove at almost full speed. "Keep you eyes on the road." I reminded.

She just laughed and said, "Don't worry too much Sasu-kun! It's not like I can't handle anything."

"Anything?"

"Yeah! I can handle anything!"

"Even being a mother to my children?"

"Yes! Certainly, I can handle being a- wait! What??"

"Oh nothing.." I teased as I nearly laughed at her confused reaction "But I know you'll make a perfect one."

"Sasuke, what on Earth are you talking about???" I turned to me and raised an eyebrow.

"Sakura, I just- DAMN IT! TURN LEFT!!"

I completely yelled as I grabbed the wheel and tried to avoid the huge truck that was heading towards us. Sakura screamed. "SASUKE-KUN! WATCH OUT!!!"

I tried to control the car as she started to tremble and cry.

BEEEEEEEPPPPPP!!!!!

Everything suddenly became slow as the truck came nearer and nearer. I turned the car to the left and successfuly avoided it in split seconds, but failed to notice the twenty-story glass-windowed building.

I tried to step on the breaks, but it didn't worked.

We were about to crash.

By that moment, I knew Sakura's position was in danger, as shards of glass can pierce her deep.

Shards of glass, that can kill her..

But I'm not going to let that happen.

I immediately grabbed hold of the crying pinkette and buried her head in my arms to save her from the impact. But before that, I managed to comfort her, before the tragic moment came..

That can be the cause of both our deaths..

"I love you, Sakura!"

SMASH!

......

TIME SKIP: Seven days.

As I regained consciousness, I heard voices around me. "...but aside from that he's free from any other damage." Finished a what I thought a doctor?

"Thank you, Dr. Yamashi."

Wait. That voice.. it sounds familiar. I can't be wrong. "S-Sakura?" My voice cracked. I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn't.

"S-Sasuke-kun! You're finally awake!"

I then felt someone hugged me as I heard her sobs. "I missed you so much!" She cried as she tighten her hold on me.

"A-Are you h-hurt?" I weakly asked. I don't care what happen to me after the accident, all I care about is her.

"Idiot!" She scolded and sniffed, "How could you care about such little things when you're the one in the hospital bed! And no, I'm not. I just got a few shallow cuts from the glass, that's all.."

Thank God she's safe..

"S-Sakura-"

"Shhh.. you need to rest, Sasu-kun."

"W-What happened t-to me?"

"Here." She then placed a glass of water in my hand. I gulp it down to relief my dry throat. "Thanks. So?" I then tried to open my eyes again, but miserably failed. I took in a deep breathe, and tried to convice myself that nothing permanent happened to my eyes..

"S-Sasuke... ah.." then she started to sob again and hug me. "I-I'm so sorry!"

"Miss Haruno, I think it's best if I'll be the one to explain your boyfriend's condition."

"O-Okay.."

Damn it. What's happening here?

"Mr. Uchiha," the doctor called. "Hn." I acknowledged as I felt my girlfriend leave my side. The door closed shut. Maybe she went out?

"Ahem.. as I was saying earlier, I think it's best for me to explain your 'condition'."

"What condition?"

"Mr. Uchiha, I'm afraid that, during the accident, little bits of broken glass from the building window.. punctured about 76% of your cornea."

"So, does this mean that I'm temporarily blind?"

"...It's possible, if we can determine whether or not, your retina is also affected. If it isn't, then we can conduct an eye transplant. But if not, I'm sorry to say that you will be..

...Permanently blind."

My heart broke at the thought of me being blind forever..

But after that conversation, Sakura promised to take care of me, and never leave my side, no matter what.

And that gave me the strength to continue life..

Her promise was the only thing I held on to..

But as they always say..

Promises are just made to be broken.
