Day 22

Ezim

Good morning, Corinne

I hope you are well, healthy, and full of energy. Because we are already back in the middle of the week and approaching with giant steps to Christmas Eve.

I've been thinking for a long time about which chapters to give you a glimpse of and which ones to keep under wraps. My intention is to make you a little curious but still not to reveal too much. That's why I'm sticking to the current topic today, but I'm coming up with a special treat for December 24.

So, this here is my second to last post of "Hello from the other side" and unfortunately also somehow the reality:

This weekend, the Corona measures tightened abruptly. A curfew was imposed and the quartet, so to speak torn apart. The publicly known couples now shared a household and neither visits nor walks together were allowed. Not such a big deal for Maho, Toru and Torio, but April, Taka and Mina faced an enormous challenge.

The blonde American tried her best, as always, but the circumstance of spending day and night, the next four weeks with the singer, unsettled her a little. She didn't want to do anything wrong, play a good wife and also take over their tasks, but she constantly asked for permission, for this and that, actually for everything and that was really annoying. Besides, April was the only one in the patchwork family who knew nothing about Taka's daughter's alien genes. It had not been necessary to burden her with it, because Mina was fortunately a smart girl and could completely hide her additional sensory organs that aliens possess. Not even the suction cups on her hands were recognizable as such, and only at very specific times did she turn into an IUCHI. Amazing, but true.

So, they mastered their everyday life, not like the happiest married couple but it worked. Only the nightly hours tugged at the men of this now split partnership. The daily phone call between Taka and Toru was moved up to late at night, with both struggling to sleep and it was not uncommon for the guitarist to nod off.

"Honey? ... Babe? ... Are you asleep again?" After a brief moment, a familiar female voice spoke up.

"Hello Takahiro san?"

"Maho ..." The singer's voice sounded disappointed, even if he didn't want to show it so obviously to her, it was impossible to miss. He swallowed and waited, embarrassed.

"Yes, ... hi ... how are you?" And since the answer was a long time coming, she explained, "Toru had a busy day and already said at dinner that he was not feeling very well. He's been sleeping really little these days, and it's tugging at his body."

"Hm .. I know. ... It's my fault ... I don't leave him alone at night." A short pause arose, and Taka looked at the display of his cell phone. It was just before 11:00PM and the long night ahead was already giving him a headache. Although nothing out of the ordinary had happened since the last incident almost a week ago, an uneasy feeling told him that it wasn't over yet. The nightmares lingered, becoming short film sequences that repeated themselves over and over again.

"Takahiro?"

"Hmm ..."

"Tell me a little about Mina. I miss her ... we miss the three of you terribly already." He cleared his throat, then asked politely:

"But ... aren't you tired?"

"Ha, ha ..." She laughed softly into the phone. "Of course ... deathly tired, but still, I can't sleep. Too many things circling in my mind and I'm sorting them out. Good ones and not so good ones."

"Oh, that sounds exhausting, but ... you have certain advantages."

"You mean because I'm a psychiatrist? That's not an advantage. It just makes me more quickly aware that I am also crazy in a certain way," she chuckled cautiously.

"Aren't we all? The whole world is going crazy and you ... shouldn't be an exception," Taka said and now they both laughed. So the singer spontaneously decided to continue the conversation. It felt good and his tensions eased. So he really started to talk about his daughter, full of devotion and love.

...

After an exceptionally, quite restful night, the news was like a blow of a club to Taka. His whole body shook as if coming out of a blizzard that had suddenly caught him in the summer, freezing cold and merciless. He gasped for air, unable to say anything in response, pressing the phone so tightly to his ear that it was already hurting, trying not to overhear anything.

"Mori darling, I'm fine ... Please don't worry." Toru's voice wavered slightly. You could tell how hard he was trying to sound calm and collected so as not to worry his friend even more, but the heavy breathing was clearly not normal.

"Taka? ... I ... I have to hang up now. They're going to examine me and .. hopefully they won't find anything. I'll get back to you as soon as I know anything. ... Babe?"

"Yes ..." came hesitantly. "I ... I'll wait for your call. See you ..." He wanted to say a few more encouraging words and that he loved him dearly, but as he picked up, the line went dead, and he just looked frantically at the display where Toru's image disappeared. Taka knew it could be hours before his husband could undergo the standard examinations. He wasn't the only patient, so the fact that he was in a private clinic didn't help.

Now they were in the middle of this new problem, which appeared so suddenly and not only affected their country but threatened the entire globe. Corona could no longer be stopped, and thousands of people were falling sick every day.

You wonder what awaits Toru? Actually, we know. Two weeks of quarantine, isolated, desperate and alone ...

In my story, there are still well-meaning aliens who really do everything they can to save lives, but that' s not so easy anymore, despite the alien powers.

Who will be the saving angel?
