I sit down. Dan sits across from me but then I explain how at the lunch table we have a specific seat for guests. Next to whoever brought them. "No matter how squished?" Dan asks. I chuckle."Unfortunately." Then my friends ask him questions. Nice ones but then Tyler comes. Tyler is the mom friend. He starts asking what he wants for be and what colleges he is looking at. And then he asks for Dan's intentions with me. "Tyler stop, we aren't dating as much as you would love another same sex couple at the table. Leave poor Dan alone. Also we can't date as he is straight and I'm not." Then Dan starts hysterically laughing. When he calms down we ask him what that was about. "Phil. I'm not straight. A circle is straighter then me. An oval is straighter then me. Rainbows are straighter than me." And all I can say is "Oh. I apologize." And he answers with a smile on his face "I accept your apology" and then we just look each other in the eyes and laugh. My friends seem to like Dan. I like Dan. "Hey Dan. Do you want to sit here more often? You won't be a guest and you won't sit so squished next to me." I ask. He answers "I would like that but I like being next to you." I smile "Me too."
