The Return of Red
Sky's POV
I have no idea what a Mudkip is, but Jason must, because he looks shocked.
"How are you alive? I thought your species was wiped out!"
Quentin looks at the ground. "Yeah, they were. I'm the last one."
I can't help myself from asking a question. "Who wiped out your kind?" I questioned, and the sad look in Quentin's eyes is replaced by burning hatred.
"The squids."
Mitch facepalms. "Of course."
Ssundee nods understandingly. "I hate those squids. They destroyed my family, and kept me prisoner for five months."
I smiled, coming up with an idea. "Hey, Quentin, can you walk on land?"
"Umm, duh?" He said. "Of course I can."
"Awesome. We're forming an army against the squids."
Quentin backs up. "Who are you guys?"
"We're Team Crafted." Jerome said.
"The whole army?" Quentin questions.
"No, the whole army is the Sky Army. Team Crafted is just us." Ty explains.
The worried look in Quentin's eyes is replaced by excitement.
"Can I join the Team?" He asked hopefully.
I look towards the others. No one objects, and I grin. "Welcome to the Team, Quentin."
****************************************
We're back in the wagon, but this time, Quentin's with us.
"So, I never asked your names." Quentin laughed.
"I'm Jason, that's Sky, Ty, Mitch, and Jerome." Jason pointed to each of us.
They went back to their conversation, and I started thinking about who needed to be in the army. Who were the greatest warriors I knew?
I realized exactly who we needed.
Red.
"Guys! We're going to Red's house!" I yelled.
"Yay! I missed her!" Ty cheered, and everyone laughed.
A few hours later, I stopped the wagon next to our old campsite. I shuddered as I remembered the zombies. The evil zombies who took my mother's life.
I see the torch in the distance, and climb out of the wagon. "I'll be back, guys!" I shouted to them, and they all nodded.
My feet hit the grass, and I ran toward the torch. That single torch that she pointed out the night she left.
*****************************************
It's not long until I reach the torch, and I begin to walk along a path of torches that I am sure lead to Red's house.
When I come to the last torch, I am at the base of a huge tree, at least ten times my size. I feel like an ant standing next to it.
One line of vines sprout up the side of the tree, and I grab onto the first vine and starting climbing.
I get halfway up the tree, when I hear voices.
"Shh, someone's down there!" Someone whispers, and I grin. That was definitely Red.
I stay completely still, slightly nervous about what she will do.
She said that she takes care of her little brother and sister, and knowing Red, she'll go to extreme measures to keep them safe.
I see a dark figure lean out of a window, with something in her hands.
Not a second later, an arrow zips past me, only missing me by a centimeter.
"Red!" I call out, before she kills me. "It's me, Sky."
The figure ducks back inside, and I continue to climb.
Suddenly, a ladder drops down beside me, scaring me so much that I almost let go of the vines and fall to my death.
I reach out and grasp onto one of the rungs of the ladder and continue to climb, which is an easier job with the ladder.
I pull myself into the tree house, and the first thing I see is Red, and I smile.
"Oh my Notch, Sky. I didn't hit you with that arrow, did I?"
"No." I answer. "You missed me by a centimeter."
"Guess I have to practice if I want to keep out the real intruders." She smirked, but then her face drained of color.
"Where's Ty? And Jerome? And Mitch? And Jason?" She asked worriedly.
I grinned. She hadn't changed one bit.
"They're waiting at the wagon."
"What wagon? Where? What's going on?"
"I'll explain in a bit. First let me stand up." I smiled, and she returned it.
"Lily! Josh! It's ok!" She called, and I saw two faces peek out from behind a door.
They couldn't have been more than Ty's age, but there was no doubt that they were Red's little brother and sister.
The little boy, Josh, had her brown hair that was sticking up every which way, and her pale skin, but he had bright blue eyes that had the mischievous glint in them that I had seen in Mitch and Jerome.
The little girl, Lily, had Red's pale skin, just like her brother, and hazel eyes that sparkled with curiosity. Unlike her two siblings, however, Lily had bright blond hair that hung in waves slightly past her shoulders.
I looked at Red, and she looked different when these two slowly walked in. She smiled brighter, and her eyes shone.
"Lily, Josh, this is my friend Sky. Sky, these are the twins, Lily and Josh."
I waved at the twins, and they waved back enthusiastically.
"Is it true that you know a bacca?" Josh asked excitedly.
"Jerome? Yeah, he's a bacca."
Josh's mouth opened, and I had to bite back a laugh.
"Hi. I'm Lily." Lily said softly. "Hi, Lily." I smiled at her.
It made me feel horrible for asking them to come with us. I didn't want them to have to see war, but it was necessary.
I turned to Red. "Ok, here's the story."
*****************************************
Red's mouth was wide open, Lily was shaking, and Josh looked excited by the time the story was over.
"So, what you're telling me is the squids are evil?" She asked, and I nodded.
"We're making an army to beat them, while we go to the Butter Kingdom."
I thought I saw doubt on her face, so I said, "Red, I wouldn't lie to you."
"Yeah, I know. I believe you. And I'd love to go. But what about them?"
She pointed towards the twins. "I can't just leave them."
"They can come with us. They don't have to fight, if you don't want them to, but we can you a place to stay with them in the Army Base." I suggested.
"Well.." She trailed off.
Josh stood on his tiptoes and looked up Red. "Please can we go, Macey?" He looked up with pleading eyes.
I snorted a laugh. "Macey?" I asked.
"Shut up. It's my real name." Her eyes shot daggers at me, and I shut my mouth.
"Can we go, Macey?" Lily asked quietly.
"Pleeeeeeeeeeease?" Lily and Josh pleaded at the same time, and I had to admire them. These kids knew how to ask for stuff.
Macey looked from Lily to Josh, then back again, and sighed. "Oh, fine. I guess we're going."
"Yay!" The twins yelled, and I smiled.
"Go pack your stuff, ok?" Macey smiled, and Lily and Josh ran off.
We sat in silence for a while.
"You really love them, huh, Macey?" I smirked.
"Tell anyone else my real name, and you'll wish you were never born, Butter Boy." She muttered.
"Gee, love you too, Red." I joked, and earned a smile.
