Chapter 10

They went to a tiny cafe. Jace ordered French vanilla coffee, while Kasey elected to drink frozen hot chocolate. They sat at a small table in the corner.

"So, you're in Hamilton?" Jace asked.

"I'm in the ensemble, yes," Kasey said.

"That's amazing. And you're British, which makes it so much cooler!" Jace exclaimed. "How do you learn all the raps and stuff?"

"It takes practice, but it's really just like learning any other role," Kasey told him. "I'd learn the songs how you'd learn yours. Practice, and practice, and rehearsal, and such."

"That makes sense," Jace said.

"And you're in Tangled," Kasey commented.

"Yes, I play Flynn Rider. I've been doing it for about a year now," Jace said.

"What's that been like?"

"Well, we were nominated for several Tonys but didn't win anything, but the show might go on tour soon, depending on how the next couple years go," Jace explained. "I've had a lot of fun, and considering this is my first Broadway show, I'm still shocked that I get to be Flynn Rider."

"That would be a dream come true," Kasey agreed. "Disney is such a wonderful place."

"That's true."

"Where did you go to school for theatre?" Kasey asked.

"I went to Point Park," Jace said. "Where did you go?"

"I went to Juilliard," Kasey said.

"That's amazing," Jace said. "What did you do before that? What was your life like before college?"

"I didn't have much of a life," Kasey laughed. "I moved her from England, of course, and at first I actually wanted to be a vet."

Jace raised his eyebrows. "A vet?"

"Yeah."

"So why aren't I speaking to Kasey, dog doctor?" Jace asked.

"Well, I'm allergic to cats, and guinea pigs, and hamsters, and so I figured that probably wasn't a good idea," Kasey told him.

"I mean, that makes sense. When I was little, I wanted to be the first man on Mars," Jace said. Kasey took a sip of her frozen hot chocolate.

"That's ambitious," Kasey commented.

"Yeah, and then I realized that I hate even roller coaster drops, so being an astronaut and hurling myself into space wouldn't go over all that well," Jace said, laughing.

Kasey got a text from Lin.

Lin: This afternoon: rehearsal of 'Yorktown', 'Alexander Hamilton', 'Wait for It', 'Your Obedient Servant' and 'Hurricane'.

Kasey sighed and put her phone away. All of those songs were ensemble songs, and it was probably so that the ensemblists could get used to their brand-new costumes. They'd finally come in that morning. At least they had them for that night's show.

"Is everything alright?" Jace asked.

"Oh, yeah, everything's fine. I just got the rehearsal list for this afternoon," Kasey explained. Jace groaned sympathetically.

"Oh, the rehearsal list," Jace laughed. "I have rehearsal this afternoon, too."

"What songs?"

"The Finale, and some songs with Araella, who's Rapunzel," Jace said. "I think they're also running some songs I'm not in, probably the Pursuit and some of Pascal's songs."

"Pascal has songs?" Kasey asked doubtfully.

"Oh, yes! They're so entertaining, too. They wrote them for the show specifically," Jace told her.

"How do they do that, then?"

"Well, the actress who plays Pascal also ribbon dances, so she uses a pink ribbon as his tongue, and then she ballet dances and sings as Pascal," Jace said. "Her name's Kaitlyn Knox. She's amazing."

"That sounds so amazing! I wish I could see it," Kasey exclaimed.

"You probably could get tickets. Tangled isn't as enormously popular as Hamilton," Jace laughed.

"That is probably true. We're practically sold out until next year," Kasey said. "I have to go get ready for rehearsal. It was nice getting to know you."

"Yeah, you, too. I'll see you around, Kasey," Jace said. She paid for her hot chocolate and left.
