Waiting Up For The League

-I get immense joy from imagining that Bang Energy is Conner's drink of choice. I don't know why I find that funny, I just do-

"What happened?"

The team was passed out around the mountain, to the point that the the team mentors were afraid there'd been a break in. The lights were out, except for the emergy lights, and whatever radiated off the DVD screen-saver thing. There was a shattered glass in the trash, Robin have fallen off the couch, except Wally was hugging him so tight, Artemis had about six braids in her hair, and Kaldur passed out sitting on the edge on the sofa.

After assuring that their children had pulses and were, in fact, only asleep, someone propsed checking the security cameras.

Dianah wound the camera's back to just about the time the league was called off on a mission.

-

The team of teenagers was lolling about in the living room, sulking about the results of their mission. Wally was tossing a softball into the air, which kept hitting Artemis in the head, and Kaldur was helping Robin patch up some of the scrapes the younger had gotten.

"Batman's going to yell at us for tonight..." Robin muttered, trying to sit still as Kaldur stuck a band aid on his skinned knee. "so who's going in first?"

M'gann shifted a little. "We'll all go in together, at the same time!"

"The doorway isnt big enough!"

"I vote that we all go in, right behind Kaldur." Conner suggested.

"Kaldur is too essential." Wally reasoned, shaking his head  "How about Artemis? she can be the casualty." He tossed up the softball.

Artemis snatched the ball out of the air. "You know what? Fuck it! We're all going!" She grabbed Wally and started towards the door.

"Hey! That's mine!" The redhead whined.

"No, it's mine. I lent it to you last week!" She flipped the ball around to show it was initialled. "Now come, we might as well face the music." but just as the team tried to leave, they practically ran into Batman and Black Canary.

Kaldur put up his hands, wanting to protect his teammates from getting scolded. "I understand, we made a mistake on the mission, but if you'll just let us explain..."

"We need to go, there's been an emergency on the east coast." The man turned to them.

"I'm coming!" Robin hurried after him, trying not to limp so visibly.

"No, you're not, you're injured!"

"-but-"

"Robin, sit down." He turned to the team. "I highly recommended you all go home and rest, you will reconvene for debriefing as soon as we return."

"Come on, we can wait up for you!" Wally exclaimed.

"Yeah, we're not kids, besides, it's already twelve!" Artemis agreed.

The leaguers discussed briefly, Black Canary turned to the team. "You can do as you wish, we'll notify you when we're on our way back."

"Unless your mentors or parents say otherwise." Batman said, making Robin pout at the floor. "Robin, I want you to return home shortly. And sleep."

"Whatever." The boy scowled.

-

"Uh huh, Bats is crazy over enforcing a thirteen-year-old's bedtime!" Oliver Queen reached over and fast forwarded until the league members left, and the kids were alone. "What else is new?"

-

Now, Artemis and Robin were sitting on the couch, practicing cross-harmonies.

"Damn, you're high!" Artemis observed.

Robin stuttered a little. "Not actually."

"I mean your voice, idiot!"

"Oh yeah, Robbie is -like- a high soprano." Wally joked. "Then again, your voice is still developing, you might become a mezzo soprano, or maybe even an alto!"

Robin swatted at him, blushing. He was kind of insecure about his under-developed body and voice. "Get lost, KF."

"Okay, bud, -hey, I remember why I'm here; M'gann wants to know if you're hungery."

"Oh, for sure." Robin chuckled. "It's nearly one am, we had a rough mission, and I haven't eaten since five pm!"

-

Batman did not seem to approve of this at all.

-

"Yes, I think we all agree that there's no debate over us being hungry," Artemis began. "But it's late night hungry, the hungry that makes you binge-eat a whole bag of shredded cheese or something."

"Except KF does that at all hours!"

"Well do you want anything?" The redhead asked.

"Dunno, I'll come see what there is." Robin slowly stood up, minding his worse injuries.

"Get my some chips or crackers or something, kay?" Artemis called after then as they exited.

-

BC switched cameras to see the kitchen, where everyone, except Artemis (obviously) were assembled.

-

"So what are we going to tell them?" Conner demanded. "That it was an accident that we lit a school bus on fire?"

"It... was." M'gann looked concerned.

"Perhaps it would be better to mention that the bus was empty. But We needn't worry about that at the moment, we should focus on resting and recoving."

"I'm practically recovered already!" Robin limped in behind Wally.

"Robin, aren't you supposed to have gone home?" The team leader asked.

The youngest teen blushed a little. "I'm fine, its not like it's 'past my bedtime' of something." He tried to laugh it off as a joke, but it actually WAS past his very real bedtime.

"So long as you're alright..." Kaldur assured.

"Fine. So, M'gann, what do we have?"

"There's not much in here, I haven't been shopping yet... there's a Bang energy, I dunno where that came from."

"Oh, that's mine." Conner cracked the top of the can and started drinking it.

"Hey uh, can I have some?" Robin asked meekly.

"Nope!" Wally shoved the boy back. "you're not having bang energy at one am on an empty stomach, -or at all!"

"Here." M'gann took out some supplies. "I'm making early-morning quesadillas. How many should I make?"

-

They fast forwarded again, switching back to the living room, about half an hour after what they'd just witnessed.

-

Artemis was 'sitting' upside-down on the couch, singing to herself (whichnwas more like lazily humming with her mouth open). The team had reassembled there, presumably watching something  on tv, but the television itself was out of the camera's peripheral.

The youngest teammate crept in as subtly as he could, too subtly, something was up.

"What do you have?" Artemis hurried over to the boy, trying to see him, but the  kid doubled over, as if hiding himself from her.

"...nothing..."

"Show me what you have!" She tried to force open his body, shouting like you would at a dog with something in its mouth.

Eventually, the boy broke away from the tussle, dropping to floor. Artemis stood ofver him, clutching her spoils of war: an empty bang energy can.

"ROBIN!" Kuldur hurried up, and took the can, noticing that the boy had drained whatever the remaining contents were.

"Dude, you're not supposed to!" Wally pulled him off the floor. "How much did you drink?"

"Dunno? a tablespoon?" The boy answered shyly. "I'm sorry, I'll buy you another one!" He turned to Conner, who shrugged.

"I was going to buy one anyways."

Wally was pacing frantically.

"What, mr. Conscience?" Artemis ordered.

"Robin can not be given caffeine, or sugar, let alone BOTH!" Wally was clutching at his hair furiously. "And you know 'never Feed a gremlin after midnight'? That referrs to him!" He hurried over and pointed at Robin.

"I'm fine!" Robin complained, but he was vibrating slightly.

-

"that is not good..."

They continued to fast forward every few minutes, dreading what they might see.

-

Now, the team was sitting on the couches, they were tired as hell, but said they were going to wait up for the league, sonthey were going to. Robin wasn't sitting, he stood, balancing on the back of one of the sofas. His balance was worse than usual, but it was as if someone had turned his noise and drama up to full saturation.

"I'm gonna start a fire." He smiled, pretending that he didn't want approval on this idea.

"Don't start a fire!" Artemis shouted. "I swear to fuck, Robin."

"I'm gonna do it!" He wasn't, probably. He was just contradicting for the sake of contradicting.

"Hey." Wally grabbed Robin's foot, trying to stop him from tumbling off the back of the Couch. "Now sit down and be good until the league gets back."

The younger whined. "But I'm cramped sitting still!"

Artemis groaned, sitting up. "You can put another braid in my hair."

A smile flitted over his mouth. "Really? Thanks!" He hurried over and began braiding her hair.

"Just-OW! Be careful this time." The blonde growled.

"Mkay!"

M'gann yawned, her and her boyfriend were ciddled on the sofa, burnt out. "Mmm, sorry, Kaldur, did we push you off the couch?"

"No, it's alright." The team leader replied. "I want to wait up and make sure that everything" He clearly meant Robin. "Ends up okay."

M'gann nodded to the boy in question. "Hey Robin."

"Hey." He was hyperfocused on braiding.

"Wow, that looks really pretty! Where did you learn to braid?"

"My friend at school." He replied, distracted.

"Very cool." Reassured about Robin, she nuzzled back into her boyfriend's neck.

This serenity lasted maybe two minutes until Robin finished braiding, and got distracted again. Wally was chasing him down, making a grab for the boy. "Come here!" He grunted.

"No!" He giggled, being annoying just for the sake of it. He made a grab at the kitchen counter, he missed a little  grabbing a glass on the counter.

SMASH

Wally held Robin against the floor, desperatly begging Kaldur and Artemis to pick up the glass while he restrained Robin.

"You, birdie," he grunted, holding Robin around the middle, carrying him to the couch where their mentors would later find them. "Are going to sit still, take a nap, and like it!"

-

Nothing of note happened for the rest of the night's tape, Wally held a struggling Robin still, tickling him when he tried to escape, and shortly, the two passed out.

"Well, at least Dick was restrained because of caffine, and nothing else."

"What did you assume?" The boy's, metor asked.

"I dunno," Oliver shrugged. "cocaine of something, at least. Then again, caffine is coke to him."

It was nearly five am. "I'm tired," Barry sighed. "Let's play a round of 'collect your kid' and seperate."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robin tried to slink into the mountain, hood up.

"Hey, Robin!" He hurries up, but Artemis was persevering. "Sleep well?"

"Shut up." He could remember the previous night too well, and was cringing, hard.

"The braids were great, by the way. My hair was hardly tangled this morning!"

The younger teen hurried away, but ran into Wally.

"Hey, man." The redhead blushed, Barry had woken him up to bring him home the precious night, and the league had seen his cuddling Robin to his chest protectively. At least Barry had woken him up, Batman had picked his kid up and carried him out in his sleep.

"Morning." Dick nodded, awkwardly. "So... sorry I was weird last night."

The redhead smiled. "Ehh, I'm used to it by now."
