Musical Theatre At Gotham Academy

-I finally did this part! It's kind of an AU, cause Artemis realizes Robin's ID, which isn't in any of my 'timelines'. CAUTION: I'm a huge theatre rat-

Damian Hubbard---------------------------------------------------------Richard Grayson

Dick read and reread the words, excitement and concern growing in his chest. He hadn't thought far enough ahead to actually getting the part. He turned away from the notice board, trying to think straight- which was hard.

"Fucks sake!" A voice cut off his train of thought. The tall blonde was glaring at the cast list, her mouth agape. The girl Barbra dared to audition.

Karen Smith-------------------------------------------------------------------Artemis Crock

"Hey, I guess we're in the same boat, huh, Karen?" Dick commented, reading her role off the sheet.

"This won't last. -hey! how'd you know I was cast as Karen? You don't even know my name!"

"Only someone cast as Karen would respond like that." He chuckled, ducking out of the hall and towards the auditorium for read through.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Where are they?" Wally groaned, the other two human team members usually arrived to hang shortly after school three days a week. It was five, where were they?

Finally the computer announced Robin's arrival, then Artemis', only seconds later.

"Whoa, Arty, you're late!" The bird snorted.

"Where were you two? It's been forever!" Wally exclaimed.

"Club meeting at school." The blonde answered.

"Uh, Same!" The other agreed. Artemis shot him a confused look.

Black Canary entered, as she had repeatedly over the past hour. "There you are. You have a mission tonight. Artemis, will you lead warm up?"

"Sure." She sighed, still tired from the read through. "Guys! On the floor, this will be follow the leader. Can someone put on some music?"

"Sure!" Robin grinned, running to the computer and putting on the Mean Girls Broadway soundtrack. Artemis shot him a confused, terrified look. How did he know? Did he know?

She began the warmup, it was just the warmup her Dance teacher at school did at the start if every lesson. Robin was following along, very well, like he knew the exact order of the warm up. The next part of the warm up was deep lunge on the right side, out of curiosity, she did the deep lunge on the left. She wasn't surprised when Robin instinctively lunged to the right.

So, Robin went to her school, and took dance class, he was no older than thirteen, knew her ID, and knew she was cast in the show. That freshman, the one cast as Damian, he looked a bit like Robin, AND he knew her name. Wasn't Robin late, that freshman had been with her at the read through.

What was his name again? He was Barbra's friend...? Dick. Dick Grayson.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Forth rehersal, Dick was chatting with Barbra, who had volunteered to do tech for the show.

"Hey, you're the one who's 'too gay to function'! Oh, Hey Arty!" The redheaded girl waved her over. "What's up?"

"Oh, nothing much... just vibing the Aster." She glanced at the freshmen. His eyes filled with terror. Even Barbra looked scared, he must have told her his secret too.

"Hold on!" He grabbed the blonde girl and hurried her out, into the single stall bathroom.

"What, Robbie?" She ruffled his hair.

"What?" He panted.

"Oh come on, you were hinting so hard, of course I'd realize."

He grabbed her shoulders, shaking her. "You can't tell ANYONE!"

"I know! So.. I giuess your dad is Bats?"

"As I said, you can't tell anyone!" He left the restroom, storming off for his costume fitting.

"Oh my god," She called, "Robin is Damian! ROBIN IS 'TOO GAY TO FUNCTION'!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wally was just trying to exist, strolling to the kitchen when something caught his ear.

"-cause now you're all over a pornsite called amature tweens!"

He peaked around the corner. Artemis was playing a backing track from her phone, next to her stood Dick. He watched silently until the verse ended and Dick took over. The redhead noticed they were both holding scripts.

"Whoa.... nice... vocals?" He leaned through the doorway. both of them yelped, Artemis threw her script and Dick scrambled to pause the track.

"Wally, jusus christ!" He exclaimed.

"Yeah- oh, baywatch! Development! i know lil' robbie's ID."

"OH." He turned to Dick Quizzically.

"She figured it out." He stated.

"It wasn't hard."

Wally glanced at the disguarded script, reading the top. "So... Mean Girls the Musical, Gotham Academy Drama Club Fall Musical."

"Oh shut up!" She yanked her script back.

"And you're in it too, huh?" He grinned at Dick.

"Wally, we arent talking about this. EVER. We don't tell the league, and we DON'T tel the team."

Wally told the team.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Try 'em on!" Artemis gave him the hot pink jazz shoes She'd taken from the costume closet.

"They're heels!" He insisted.

"Pussy."

Dick put on the heels, they're a little too big, but the heel wasn't too bad. "Why do you need heels? You're already super tall!"

Mr. Mac, the drama teacher called out. "Richard, girls, on stage please, we're going to Run 'Stop'."

Artemis got up and flonced into the wings, playing on her phone. She was getting pretty good at playing Karen, she sometimes found herself wearing vests or dressing like mannequins at Justice or Claire's. Dick had barely taken off his fadora all month. It was about a week away from the opening night.

Mr. Mac cut the music. "How many times do I half to say it? CHEAT OUT, PROJECT, AND LEARN.YOUR.QUEUES!"

"Mr M..." Dick said timidly.

"Yeah, Damian?" He referred to them via character name.

"I'm wearing Karen's Jazz heels, can I go change into my tap shoes."

He sighed because it was TECH WEEK. "Guys, if it's not your prop, or costume, Don't touch it! Go ahead, Damian."

"Thanks." Dick kicked off the heels and ran off to go find his shoes. He'd told Bruce he had Debate and Math meetups, but he didn't know how he'd get away with the upcoming evening rehersals without spilling the tea. He could tell Bruce the truth, but then he'd have to explain why he kept it secret for so long...

"Damian, ON STAGE. And Leah, can you fix those easels?"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey Bruce?"

"Hey..." His father was distracted, but leant an ear.

"So, I'm going to be busy this week... actually, the next few weeks. At night." He  pulled out a ad for the school show and held it out shakily. "Sorry I didn't tell you, I wasn't sure I'd get a callback, then I wasn't sure myt callback was good, and I just kept pushing it back..."

"Oh, I know." Bruce stated, taking the postcard. "They sent out an email about it. Also, you weren't subtle."

"Oh, okay. Well, you don't have to come or anything, I just have to miss patrol..."

"Artemis Crock is in it too, right?"

"Yeah, and Babs is doing lighting." Dick agreed. "But, you know, we're already selling tickets to our classmates..."

"How much are tickets?"

"Uhm, five in advance, ten at the door."

"How many opening night tickets do you have?"
