Deaged (Part One)
-Unrelated, but, if you're reading this, please be cautious of "Operation Pridefall" This pride month. Love, Your Bisexual author-
When the team has been supposeddly poisoned, they are required to stay at the mountain while tests were conducted.
"You'll stay here, we'll have people come and check on you every half-hour"
"And you have cameras, We know." Robin groaned, the team was still on thin ice from the After Party. "We're not prisoners."
Artemis pulled her frizzy hair out of its ponytail and brushed it through with her fingers. They'd all showered and were in comfort clothes now, sweats, thin t-shirts and shorts that clung to still-damp skin. It was nearly two am and they were exhausted.
"Don't worry about us, We don't have the energy to do anything." Wally fought just to be coherent.
"And that's coming from the human battery pack." Artemis added.
"I think I'm a dead battery today, Arty."
And with that the team was left alone. The first ten minute were pretty chill, they surfed through channels trying to stay awake, but cable tv is pretty lame, so they desided to watch some shit on youtube. By now, Dick was fighting for consciousness.
"Are you guys this tired too?" He asked, finally breaking character.
"Yes." Conner admitted.
"I am." Kaldur nodded.
M'gann yawned, nuzzling into a pillow. "Same."
"I'm exhaust-" Wally abandoned the sentence. Too hard.
Artemis moaned and curled up on the carpet, her and Robin both had a habit of sleeping in weird, flexible positions.
Robin was tired and in mild discomfort. He raised a hand to his comm. "I don't think I'll be awake when you get here. I might just be tired, but incase it's part of the poison... you know. Also, my wrists and stuff hurt." He turnedto the others. "Is that just me?"
Artemis perked up slightly. "I thought I was imagining it." She gasped.
"I feel irritated in the flesh around my arteries." Wally confirmed.
"It feels like Burning." Kaldur answered.
Robin pressed his comm again. "I checked with the team, the area around our arteries feels really hot, I think we should check that out-" his words drooped off as sleep overtook them.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was easily ten minutes before Batman could hear the concerning message his ward had left. He'd had a moniter of the main camera view up in the corner of his peripheral. He turned to see it properly, something wasn't right.
"The poison is setting in. We need to check on them." He stated, more like ordered, standing and moving swiftly towards the Zetabeam.
Something really wasn't right. The team hadn't moved off the couch, but they weren't there... not really
The oldest child stirred, Kaldur, he looked about seven or eight. His eyes blinked open, almost as if he'd sensed them.
"I'm sorry, my king..." He managed, forcefully sitting up and using the heel of his palm to rub dust from his eye. "I don't-" He realized something wasn't right, eyes lingering from furniture, to the league, to his own forearm. The proportions didn't check out. "What?"
"We don't know." Arther replied, still taken aback by the scene before them. "We just arrived, you were like this."
A sudden concern consumed the boy. "The others-"
"They're here, but asleep."
Kaldur, or the child he'd become, looked around the team, as did the league. Conner and M'gann were on the main couch, tangled around each other, Artemis was sleeping, contorted on the carpet, and Wally was half-on half-off the side couch. All was as it should be, except that the team looked easily ten years younger. The childen looked like... children; wearing their normal-sized clothing, sleeping on the normal-sized furniture.
As if on queue Conner sat bolt upright, eyes wide. It was no secret he had odd sleeping habits, but this seeemed very similer to Kaldur's reaction.
"What?" He stated, knowing something was wrong. He looked around and observed the surrounding area, intaking information. Of course, he literally did not have a childhood, this felt unnatural.
Instantly M'gann let out a shrieking gasp and sat up, as though waking from a nightmare, though she showed no other signs of dreaming. It must have been something telekenetic she'd picked up on. She grabbed Conner's arm. "It's wrong! Something wrong!" She panted. Unlike the others, her clothes had shunk to fit her.
Two more children started awake, one blonde, one redheaded; they looked about five or six. Wally looked around, blinked hard, and seemingly convinced himself it was a dream.
Artemis tried to get up, but she'd been sitting on her long hair, causing her head to jerk back and bang off the floor. Unsurprisingly, her first reaction was to pull the locks out from behind her, sit up, and exclaim; "WHY IS IT SO LONG?" She noticed that her hair length isn't the only thing wrong here. "What the..." She managed to stand, her tank top was now long enough to fall down to her knees. "...heck. Why's everything so big?"
Finally, the jarringness of the situation stopped blinding the league. These were clearly they're sidekicks, but they were so young!
"Artemis?"
"Hmm?" She squinted up at her mentor. "Ollie!" She called, gladly regonising him, and hurrying forwards. "What happened?" She threw herself against the man's legs.
"I-" Oliver was beyond taken aback. "I don't know."
Wally desided this wasn't a dream, he clambered to his feet curiously. "Uncle B?" He called, starting to get worried. The last thing he remembered was a burning in his veins and now... everything was wrong. "The thing!" He clutched at his left wrist as though expecting it to be glowing red.
Barry actually adapted to the situation quicker than the others. He'd actually known Wally as a child. "Does it still hurt?" He got down to the boy's level and gestured for him to put out his arm for inspection, like he would when Wally would get a scrape on the playground .
"No. Not now." He confessed. "But it did!"
"What did it feel like?"
"Warm." The young boy said, disgusted.
This was about the time the youngest was noticed, buried in M'gann's Target thow pillows. He was barely visble under the overr-sized glasses, but his face was contorting as he was unpleasently woken up.
"Robin."
He struggled into sight, a toddler, no older than three. His glasses were falling completely off the little boys face. "Br..."
Instantly, the infant was swept off the sofa and into his adopted father's arms. Bruce was taking Richard away until he was sure the boy was okay.
"Rob!" Wally whined, disappointed to see him leave. Then he saw Robin. "He's small." The redhead stated what everyone thought. "What happened to us?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It took the children several hours to get used to their new bodies; Conner was furious that he was no longer 6'1 and 184 lbs. his rage and disproportionate strength, combined with the self control of a six year old did not mix well; it took three people to restrain him properly. He was NOT happy that one of these people was Superman.
Artemis had practically burst into tears when she saw her bow, explaining in a Panicked voice that it was now too big for her to shoot.
M'gann had her mind set on trying to shapeshift back to her teenage body, but frustratingly, it wasn't working.
Wally was a 40 lbs ball of energy; not as fast as normal, but he still proudly showed off to the adults that he was faster that a race car.
Kaldur used all of his Comprehension skills to mingle around the league, he was old enough to enjoy talking to the adults more than the younger kids.
And then there was Robin. It was desided that the whole team should remain in the mountain while they reserched a cure. That way they were easier to keep track of. So, Bats had brought him back, identies concealed again. Dick almost wished he wasn't there, everytime he Approached the big kids, Bruce would Swoop him up and pull him back across the room. Like he was going to be hurt by being with his friends. He was getting claustrophobic of Bruce and the others hovering over him.
It was easily four or five am, the adults were exhausted, some of them had work in a couple hours, and those who didn't dis not have the energy to keep up with even one kid.
"I'm here." Roy stumbled through the zetatube in sweatpants with a starbucks drink and hastily packed backpack. "Why'd you tell me to bring... caffeine..." He took it the scene through the eyes of an eighteen year old woken up at four-thirty am. The only way his brain could process was to burst out in confused laughter. He doubled over, spilling his coffee a bit, and nearly cried of laughter. After about thirty straight seconds of this, he stood up and looked around.
Oliver glared at him."Are you done?"
"Jesus, What Happened Here?"
