Episode/Chapter 6 - Newby

"So, how does this work again?" Kara asked as she inspected the box Conner gave her.

"It's a phone. You can use it to call me, Superman, or anyone on the team. You just need to get their number." Conner explained. Kara tapped the box like the number pads on a phone. Conner stared at her (A/N: LOL), "uh, you have to take it out of the box first."

"Oh! Right! Of course!" Kara chuckled as she opened the box. She shook the box over her hand and the phone fell into it. She inspected it and turned it on.

"Here, let me give you my number." Conner said and he took her phone and typed in his number and the numbers of other people on the team.

"Why need a phone? You could hear me miles away!" Kara said.

"How about the rest of the team?"

"...Yeah, point taken. Besides, I hear these things are really cool!" Kara said as she took her phone back.

"I also added the rest of the team's numbers, including a few of the Justice League's numbers...which are only for emergencies." Conner warned.

"Okay. Thanks." Kara smiled, then looked down, "will I fit in here on Earth?"

"Of course you will! I know you'll make a perfect teen here on Earth...you just need practice at it." Conner replied.

"Thanks!" Kara thanked, took her phone, hugged him, then flew out the door, leaving Conner in her room by himself, a little bit stunned and surprised. He sighed and walked back out to the living room, which was just down the hallway.

"So, Ms. Harjavti's 'peace speech' was taken over by a large massacre of an explosion, which started a burning building, then she fainted onstage along with her two bodyguards," Conner heard Gordon Godfrey say on the GBS News in the living room, where he saw M'gann sitting on the couch watching the broadcast, "Don't tell Ol' G. Gordon that that was a coincidence! Because this entire thing seemed entirely planned! This must've been some sort of SHAM! But that's not even the craziest part! Take a good look at this, folks." Then he showed a clip of a blonde girl: Kara, but the quality of the video was so bad, no one could recognize her face, but they did recognize the "S" on the front of her Supergirl outfit. They showed her flying down the alley going after Psimon, then it froze.

"You all saw that, right? So I'm not going crazy? There's a Super GIRL?! Well, how does she relate to the Superman or the Superboy? Are they siblings? Cousins? Married? We don't know, but the point is that I'm referring back to the dilemma from two years ago, and apparently the issue has resurfaced! The dilemma of having a large and unneeded influx of aliens on Planet Earth. The Reach was a good example of why us earthlings shouldn't trust any alien invaders. The Martians should remain on Mars, the Kryptonians should remain on Krypton. It's simple. They're called Martians and Kryptonians for a reason! They're not Earthlings like us!" G. Gordon said.

"That's it." M'gann said and turned the tv off. She dropped the remote on the coffee table and got up from the couch.

"Whoa there, where are you going?" Conner asked her as he stood in front of her.

"To give 'Ol G. Gordon' a piece of my mind. Literally." M'gann growled.

"But you can't!" Conner said.

"Why not? Conner! He's talking about me! Uncle J'onn, Superman, Kara...YOU!"

"I know, and I want to tear him limb from limb too, but it'll destroy our rep! They'll see us good guys as the bad guys." Conner said. M'gann calmed down.

"I guess you're right. We wouldn't want to make ourselves look worse than we already do...guess there's nothing we can do about it." M'gann said and sat down on the couch with her head in her hands. Conner sat next to her and put his arm around her.

"But you could prove him wrong and you could make a difference in the world. And I know you can." Conner smiled. She smiled back as she wrapped her arms around him and kissed him. Then they heard Kara yelp from behind them, and turned to see her covering her mouth holding her phone at an arm's length.

"What happened?" Conner asked.

"I-it made a s-sound!" Kara gasped as she showed him her phone. Conner looked at the phone, turned to M'gann, and back to Kara.

"Um, Kara? That sound means you got a text." Conner explained. Then he took out his phone and sent a text to Kara, making her phone ding.

"Oh! That makes sense!" Kara chuckled. Suddenly her phone started ringing and she shrieked, "w-what's that?!"

"That means you're getting a call," M'gann said, "press the green button to answer it, or the red button to ignore it. Only ignore people you don't know."

"So, who is it?" Conner asked. Kara read the caller ID

"It's Aqualad."

"Answer it!" M'gann said.

"Hello?" Kara answered.

"Kara, since you answered this call, I take it you learned how to use the phone we got you?" Aqualad asked.

"I did! Thanks a lot!" Kara thanked, a smile spread on her face as she turned to M'gann and Conner, who nodded and smiled at her.

"No problem. We wanted to make sure you had a way of communicating with the rest of the team." Aqualad continued, "anyways, I originally called to ask if you've settled in all right."

"Yep! I'm all good here!" Kara replied.

"Good. Well, have a good weekend." Aqualad said and they both hung up.

"That was a pretty good first call." Conner said as he and M'gann walked over to her.

"You've accomplished the first step to being an Earth teen! Next up, blowing all your boyfriend's money on shopping!" M'gann beamed as she grabbed Conner's wallet.

"Hey! M'gann! Please don't!" Conner pleaded.

"Oh! I know who to call for some help with that!" Kara said and speed-dialed someone else from the team.

"They're not Earthlings like us..." Gordon said on tv just fifteen minutes earlier.

"This is ridiculous." Dick grumbled.

"What is it?" Artemis asked as she walked up to the living room from the kitchen. She leaned on at the doorway as Dick whipped around immediately.

"Oh, hey. It's nothing." Dick said and he reached for the remote and turned the tv off.

"Babe, whatever you call 'ridiculous' is never 'nothing'." Artemis said as she sat on the couch next to him. Dick looked at her and sighed.

"Gordon Godfrey is ranting about aliens again. Is it just me, or are you feeling a little deja vu, because I feel like we've been through this already."

"I mean, we have. But don't let that stop you from going out and showing him that he shouldn't care about that stuff anymore." Artemis said as she put her hand on his thigh and rubbed it.

"That sounds like a great idea." Dick said and put his hand on top of hers and they smiled at each other. Then Artemis' phone went off. She checked the caller ID.

"Hey Kara! What's up?" Artemis answered Kara's call.

"Hey Artemis! I was wondering if you wanted to come with Miss Martian and I to the mall! She said that this is the part where we get to blow all your boyfriend's money on shopping!" Kara giggled. Artemis smiled mischievously and turned to Dick, who looked at her with confusion.

"I'd love to join you! It's not like I have any other plans!" Artemis smiled, making Dick gape.

"Great! See you in five!" Kara said and they both hung up.

"'Don't have any other plans'?! Babe, what happened to me?!" Dick asked.

"Why, Dick? Did you have a make-out session planned?" Artemis asked seductively as she straddled him and moved her hands on his chest. She smirked as she held her face on his ready to kiss him.

"W-well yeah..." Dick stuttered. But before he could kiss her, she snatched his wallet from behind him and got up before he could grab her, "What the... Artemis!" Dick called as she walked to the door.

"Going shopping with Kara and M'gann! It's 'blow our boyfriend's money day'! See you in an hour or two! Love you too Babe!" Artemis called and left.

"NO!" Dick called after her and ran to the door. Then he growled and stomped off to the kitchen.
