Chapter 64: Early Warning

(A/N): I'm back!

I just wanted to give a quick update before we get into the chapter. In what little free time I have I am working on the season 3 finale. Some events have been changed from the show so don't expect things to play out the exact same way.

This chapter is the last one before the start of the final season 3 arc. Stick with me and I'll try to have it up some time next week. (I'm really looking forward to it)

Thanks again and I appreciate every bit of feedback.

———————————————————————————

3rd Person POV:

"You will never be able to keep her safe."

"My legacy is a string of death and torture."

"Your friends will burn in an inescapable hell!"

"You'll all fall before the master!"

Fire burned everywhere as (Y/n) scrambled to find an exit. He stumbled over body after body of his fellow agents. He couldn't bring himself to look at their faces.

Hoopster: "I always knew you were too weak to save us. Where were you when we needed you?"

Garzia: "You're a pathetic excuse for an agent."

Sutton: "We never should've trusted you."

(Y/n) spun around to see the faces of his dead teammates. Before he could force himself to speak a bright flame consumed their bodies and left him alone.

"Wow, you really think you're a professional? If you had been, maybe I would still be alive. Maybe I could hold Artemis and grow old with my friends and family. You aren't a hero, you're a loose cannon and a cold blooded killer. If you're not careful, you'll get Zatanna killed."

(Y/n) spun around and froze with fear. He was face to face with Wally. The speedster looked slightly older than (Y/n) remembered and looked mentally exhausted.

(Y/n): "Wally... I'm so sorry. I-I tried to save you..."

Wally: "But you didn't! You let me die just like your team died. The next team you get close to is going to suffer the same fate! You're not a hero, you're a plague! YOU'LL GET EVERYONE KILLED!"

Wally lunged forwards and grabbed (Y/n)'s neck, tackling the agent to the ground and pinning him down. Everything went black as the agent fought for each breath he drew in.

————————————————————————

(Y/n) screamed as he shot up in his hospital bed. He was drenched in sweat and could feel his heart pounding against his chest.

The agent surveyed the empty room and sighed as he heard footsteps rushing towards the door. Kandel crashed through the door followed closely by Traci and Titan.

Kandel: "(Y/n)!"

Traci: "Are you alright?!"

Titan rushed forward and stopped at the side of the agent's bed. The German Shepherd jumped up so his front two paws were on the edge of the bed and he started licking the agent's face.

(Y/n): "It's good to see you, buddy."

Titan continued wagging his tail as Traci made sure the room was empty.

Kandel: "(Y/n), are you alright?"

(Y/n): "Yeah... yeah I'm fine, just another nightmare. Where's Zee?"

Kandel: "She's out for dinner with Artemis and M'gann.

The agent groaned and leaned back into his bed, he hated staying in the hospital. Kandel had forced him to remain under her watch as she knew he'd disobey her orders the first chance he got.

(Y/n): "Why does she get to leave the hospital?"

Kandel: "Because I know she'll come back. You'll head for the hills the first chance you get."

(Y/n): "Can you blame me, it's been two weeks and I'm still stuck in here."

Kandel: "It's only for two more weeks at most."

(Y/n): "My ribs are almost fully healed, just light brushing on a few."

Kandel: "And if you hurt yourself doing anything at all, you may never heal properly. Not to mention I want to survey every bit of your recovery given your enhanced healing."

(Y/n): "I'm fine, this is all a massive overreaction."

Kandel: "If you pass the physical fitness test tomorrow then I'll let you spend the rest of your medical leave at your home. Until then, try and get some sleep."

The agent groaned in annoyance and rolled over, attempting to fall back asleep. Kandel and Traci left the room with Titan remaining by the agent's side.

(Y/n) tossed and turned for what seemed like hours, eventually passing out and hoping his nightmares would stay away.

————————————————————————

Artemis: "Well, you're looking better. How's (Y/n) feeling?"

Zatanna: "Like he's stuck in a prison. He hates being kept in the hospital."

M'gann: "Well at least it's only for two more weeks."

Zatanna: "Yeah no kidding, Kande won't even let me sleep with him. She has this stupid "hands off" policy and won't let me do anything with him."

Artemis choked on her drink and started laughing. M'gann couldn't help but join in the laughter and Zatanna's cheeks turned red.

The girls were sitting in a nice restaurant a few blocks from the hospital. Each had several drinks and just enough food to help absorb the alcohol.

M'gann: "Aww you poor thing."

Artemis: "I'm sure there'll be plenty of time for you to have some fun with (Y/n) later. These two weeks will be over before you know it."

Zatanna groaned and took another sip of her wine. She hated being stuck in the hospital almost as much as (Y/n). The beds were uncomfortable and small, the food was terrible and she could never sleep. The only positive, in her opinion, was that (Y/n) couldn't get hurt doing something stupid or leave to go on some mission while he was still recovering.

Zatanna: "Have you two gotten an update on New York?"

M'gann: "The League and the Outsiders went in to help. They've put out the fire and have distributed the cure for the virus to everyone in need of it. The JTF has removed the blockade and its units have finished establishing control over the entire city. They wiped out the Cleaners and Rikers before taking the Dark Zone apart bit by bit."

Artemis: "The last Division agents withdrew earlier in the week. They've all returned to the Hub and are assessing their losses."

As Artemis and M'gann continued to bring Zatanna up to speed on the casualties and food rationing in New York, the mistress of magic glanced over to a television. She saw Godfrey ranting about the Justice League and the Division, blaming both for the mass destruction in New York.

Zatanna: "How bad is the PR damage? I mean, that Godfrey segment has been running since we got here a few hours ago and he hasn't stopped ranting about the League and the Division."

M'gann: "Most people know that the League was helpless to stop this or help in any way... but the Division, they're getting raked across the coals to say the least.

Artemis: "Apparently a large number of agents have gone rogue. They abandoned their post when it seemed like the Division was about to collapse and simply disappeared. That's what Godfrey's ranting about. I wouldn't expect it to go anywhere though, most people in the refugee camps have been spreading the word of the Division's heroics."

Zatanna sighed and slipped her hand into her jacket, running her thumb across her pocket watch.

M'gann: "I'm sorry to hear about your ring being taken... it's not right..."

Zatanna: "(Y/n) said they're just trying to get in our heads, to hurt us personally so we don't think about what they're planning and just focus on ourselves...."

Artemis and M'gann stayed quiet as Zatanna pulled her pocket watch out and held it in her hands. Carefully examining it as the small clock continued to click by with every passing second.

Zatanna: "It makes sense... but it hurts. She had no reason to take it other than to hurt me. She wanted to keep it as some kind of trophy, a prize to brag about. I... I just want it back."

Zatanna fought off tears as she gripped the pocket watch. M'gann and Artemis jumped up and quickly walked around the table, they pulled Zatanna out of her chair and hugged her.

Artemis: "Let's pay for dinner and get back to the hospital. You look like you need a hug from your fiancé."

Zatanna hummed in agreement and softly smiled as the girls paid for their dinner and started walking back to the hospital.

————————————————————————

(Y/n) took in a deep breath and easily pushed the barbell up. The weight wasn't anywhere near his max as Kandel wished to study his movement and any possible pain in his ribs during his fitness test.

(Y/n): "Happy?"

Kandel: "Get on the treadmill."

(Y/n): "You've got to be kidding me."

Kandel: "With the oxygen mask."

(Y/n): "Seriously?!"

(Y/n) groaned in annoyance and walked over to the treadmill. Kandel's patience was running thin with the pouting agent and Kelso's laughter from across the room set her off.

Kandel: "KELSO, YOU RAISED A FUCKING CHILD! THIS AGENT ACTS LIKE A TODDLER!"

Kelso: "Easy there, girl. He just-"

Kandel: "DON'T STAR KELSO! YOU'RE BOTH BENCHED UNTIL I SAY OTHERWISE!"

Kelso: "Right, well you can bench (Y/n), he's still injured. But-"

Kandel: "You are too. Mental exhaustion as a result from traumatic loss, the stress of combat and the stress of knowing I was kidnapped by the Hunters."

Kandel put her hands on her hips and smiled at Kelso. The doctor pointing to a nearby bench and Kelso reluctantly sulked over to it and plopped down.

Kandel: "Good girl. Now I'll get your paperwork filled out and you can join us at (Y/n) and Zatanna's place."

(Y/n): "Wait, what?"

Kandel: "Oh you didn't think I was letting you off the hook for the rest of your recovery, did you? I know that the second I discharge you from the hospital you'll do something stupid and endanger your recovery, so I'm dragging all of you back to your mansion where I can baby sit all of you like the overgrown children you are."

(Y/n) groaned again as he put on the oxygen mask. Kandel opened the air tank and the young agent started running on the treadmill.

————————————————————————

*Small Time Skip*

Zatanna stumbled back into (Y/n)'s hospital room, hoping that Kandel or any of the nurses didn't see her enter. She carefully shut the door and held her breath, only letting out a sigh of relief when she was certain nobody saw her sneak in.

Zatanna heard the shower turn off and took the time to get settled in. She quickly took off her winter jacket and tossed it onto the only chair in the room.

The magician adjusted her light sweater and made sure her hair was fixed so it looked good. She took in a deep breath and turned to face (Y/n) as he opened the bathroom door and stepped out into his room with only a towel around his waist.

Zatanna's words died in her throat. Her face heated up as her eyes were drawn to the agent's damp chest. She didn't even bother pretending to look at his eyes, she made her choice and was solely focused on his muscles.

She had originally planned to downplay the number of drinks she had with dinner but completely forgot what she was doing and with the alcohol clouding her thoughts, she was left frozen in place.

(Y/n): "Hey Zee, how was dinner?"

Zatanna: "Mhmmm yeah... yeah it was uhhh..."

(Y/n) laughed and took a step closer to Zatanna. She felt her face heat up as her eyes stayed glued to her agent's chest.

Zatanna stumbled closer to (Y/n) but managed to catch herself before she face planted onto the ground. She reached out towards (Y/n)'s damp chest and was about to touch it when the agent backed up.

For the first time since she entered the room, Zatanna's eyes were drawn up to (Y/n)'s (e/c) ones and she found a teasing smile across his face.

(Y/n): "Remember, you can look but Kandel says no touching."

Zatanna suddenly focused as her mind cleared. She snapped out of her drunken state and glared back at her fiancé.

Zatanna: "Fuck that! I've waited long enough! Kcol eht rood!"

The lock on the door suddenly snapped shut and (Y/n)'s face went white as Zatanna stared him down. She took a step closer and then broke into a sprint, covering the short distance in an instance.

Zatanna threw herself into (Y/n) who caught her with open arms, their lips connecting in an instant. The agent briefly stumbled back until he hit the wall. Zatanna took full control as (Y/n) was still in shock.

Zatanna: "Mhmmm... two fucking weeks.... Mhmmmm, two weeks you've been teasing me non-stop... mhmmm."

The mistress of magic continued to cut off any response (Y/n) could muster with a passionate kiss.

(Y/n) brought his hands to Zatanna's back and snaked them under her sweater. She shivered in his embrace as she felt his hands run along her bare back.

Zatanna: "Mhmmm fuck... I've missed these lips."

(Y/n): "Zee, we really shouldn't be doing this. Kandel said we could go home tomorrow-mhmmm!"

Zatanna silenced the agent with her lips as her hands ran across his muscular back. She moaned loudly into his mouth as he picked her up and carried her to the small hospital bed.

(Y/n): "Ah, fuck it."

Zatanna giggled and cast a spell that turned off the lights as (Y/n) placed her into bed and climbed in beside her.

The pair were under the covers in a split second and disobeying Kandel's orders the next.

Several hours later, when they finally passed out. (Y/n) had the best sleep he'd had in months and not a single nightmare terrorized him in the night.

————————————————————————

(Y/n) woke up early the following morning. Zatanna was sound asleep on his bare chest and softly purring away as she slept. The agent couldn't help but smile and stayed as still as possible so Zatanna could sleep.

(Y/n) looked up and over the small railing on the hospital bed the best he could and noticed that Zatanna's discarded clothes were still scattered across the room. His heart rate picked up at the thought of the nurses coming around for their morning check at any minute.

(Y/n) quickly reached over to the table beside his bed and grabbed his phone. He sent a text to Kelso asking where she was and if she was with Kandel. She responded almost instantly.

(Over text)

"Hey, Kelso. Are you with Kandel and where are you?"

"On our way up, we just passed the lobby. We brought coffee and figured we could get breakfast on our way to your place."

"Stall Kandel."

"What, why?"

"Just do it!"

"Oh my god tell me you didn't. You two literally had to make it one more day for us to get out of this place."

"Just stall her before we get permanently benched in this place."

(Y/n) tossed his phone on the table and the thump caused Zatanna to wake up. She groaned as she pushed herself up and blushed when she realized she was on top of (Y/n) and naked.

Zatanna: "Morning... oh no... tell me we didn't."

(Y/n): "Oh trust me, it was your idea and I didn't have much of a say in the matter."

Zatanna: "Oh shit. How's your chest? I didn't hurt you, did I?"

(Y/n): "I'm fine Zee. How much did you have to drink last night?"

Zatanna: "Artemis, M'gann and I finished a bottle of wine...."

(Y/n): "Well, coffee's on the way, but Kandel's bringing it. So get dressed and pretend like you slept in the chair or we'll both be stuck here indefinitely."

The magician groaned and sat up, taking the blanket with her and exposing the large number of hickeys on (Y/n)'s upper body. Zatanna bit her bottom lip and smiled as she looked down at her agents bare body.

(Y/n): "Stop taking in your handy work and get dressed."

Zatanna blushed and started climbing out of bed. Before her feet hit the floor they heard the lock on the door turn. (Y/n) reacted in an instant and grabbed Zatanna, pulling her back onto him and wrapping them both in the blanket.

Kandel: "Morning (Y/n).... seriously?"

(Y/n): "Hey, it's not what it looks like."

Kandel walked into the room and stood in the center of Zatanna's clothes and (Y/n)'s towel just as Kelso shut the door with a stupid smile across her face.

Kandel: "Oh please continue. I'm eager to hear what bull shit you could possibly come up with to explain this."

Kelso was biting her tongue and desperately holding in laughter as (Y/n) scrambled for an answer and Zatanna pretended to be asleep on his chest.

(Y/n): "Uhh yeah I've got nothing."

Kandel: "Zatanna, I know you're awake."

Zatanna: "Oh.... Good morning doctor."

Kandel: "I get you two have... needs, but if his ribs don't heal properly then you'll be in a whole world of pain. So please follow my orders and refrain from anything that may put stress on his body."

Kelso: "Looks like he was relieving some stress doc."

(Y/n): "Kelso, so not helping."

Kandel: "Just get dressed so we can have coffee."

Kelso and Kandel left the room and returned a few minutes later. Zatanna was already fully dressed and stuffing her dirty clothes into a backpack as (Y/n) was putting on a t-shirt.

Kelso started laughing when she saw (Y/n)'s chest covered in hickeys and Kandel couldn't help but let out an amused chuckle.

Kelso: "Well, at least we know who was in charge last night. And here I was thinking Zatanna was a pillow princess."

(Y/n): "She normally is."

Zatanna: "I am not!"

(Y/n) simply laughed and hugged Zatanna as she pouted and crossed her arms.

Kelso: "Coffee's on the table, pack up your stuff and let's get out of here. We'll grab Mary from her room and head out for breakfast."

(Y/n): "It's about damn time."

————————————————————————

Several hours later the group had arrived at the secluded mansion to find it completely decorated for Christmas.

Christmas lights were strung across the many pine trees around the mansion as well as being placed on the roof and shrubbery. Traci opened the front door and welcomed everyone in after they spent a few minutes marveling at the beautiful lights.

Zatanna: "Traci... it's beautiful. Did you do this all by yourself?"

Traci: "I had a little help from Jaime. I wanted it to look perfect for you guys. And with Christmas being only a few days away I knew you wouldn't have time to decorate or do anything, so I took the liberty and grabbed some gifts for everyone."

(Y/n): "Thank you, Traci. But you didn't have to do that."

Traci: "I know... but I kinda used the money from your emergency bag in the armory. So it's kinda like you bought the gifts for everyone."

Traci smiled and (Y/n) twitched. Thinking of the various passports for everyone he had made so they could flee and disappear with little notice.

Traci: "So why did you have $40,000 and fake passports for everyone stashed in a bag down in your little armoury?"

(Y/n): "What were you doing in my armory?"

Traci: "Looking for Christmas Lights. Now answer the question."

(Y/n) groaned and stepped further into the mansion, the group of girls following behind Titan who was right on (Y/n)'s heels.

(Y/n): "If we ever need to disappear for a bit, that bag will help us stay hidden."

Mary: "Paranoid much?"

(Y/n): "Half the people here were just held hostage, so no."

Zatanna: "Let me see my fake passport."

Traci handed over Zatanna's fake passport to the magician and closed the door behind the group, trapping the warm air inside and locking the front door.

Zatanna: "You picked this photo?"

(Y/n): "It's the same one that's on your real passport."

Zatanna: "No it isn't, my hair is all disheveled. I look terrible!"

(Y/n): "It's a fake passport, Zee. You don't have to look good on it."

Zatanna refused to drop the conversation as the group hung up their winter coats in the large closet by the front door. She continued to pester her agent about selecting a terrible photo and demanded he make a new one.

Traci: "(Y/n), what's that on your neck?"

The agent's face went white as Kelso started snickering. Traci looked carefully at the agent's neck and (Y/n) quickly pulled his sweater up to shield the majority of his neck.

Kelso: "It's either a hickey or a lipstick stain from your mentor."

Zatanna's face flushed red and suddenly the passport photo was the least important thing in the world to her.

Traci and Mary giggled at their mentor's embarrassment before turning their attention to the lights coming from the kitchen.

Traci led the group down the hall and into the large living room, where a massive Christmas tree was set up and fully decorated in the corner of the room.

Though every light was off in the living room, the Christmas tree lights were more than enough to illuminate the room with a warm glow.

Zatanna: "Oh Traci, you've really outdone yourself."

Traci: "I wanted this place to look special when you came back to it. The grifts are all wrapped up and under the tree so don't you worry about getting stuff for each other."

(Y/n): "Thank you, Traci. You've saved Christmas."

Traci: "Well I can't let your lives be stuffed full of darkness and depression."

Zatanna smiled and hugged Traci as the others took in the beautiful Christmas tree.

A few minutes later the group split up, everyone heading to their various rooms to unpack and relax for a few hours before dinner.

(Y/n) didn't bother unpacking his small bag from the hospital. He simply dropped it by his dresser and collapsed onto his bed.

The agent slowly looked over to Zatanna's side of the bed when he heard cute giggling.

Zatanna was strong down at him with a beautiful smile on her face. He couldn't keep his own smile away and looked up at her, instantly getting lost in her blue eyes.

Zatanna: "If you fall asleep now, you'll be up all night."

(Y/n): "Trust me, I'm not going to have a problem falling asleep in this bed."

The magician climbed into bed beside her agent and quickly snuggled into his side. (Y/n) wrapped his arm around Zatanna and held her as close as he could.

(Y/n): "After sleeping on the ground for months in New York and then in that tiny hospital bed for another two weeks, I'll be sleeping like a baby."

Zatanna: "Well... that hospital bed wasn't all that bad."

(Y/n) smiled as he pulled Zatanna up on top of him and moved his hands down to her waist. Zatanna brought her hands up to (Y/n)'s face and gently cupped his cheeks as she leaned down, capturing his lips in a loving kiss.

Zatanna: "You know, I think I'm going to sleep like a baby too."

Kelso: "Or maybe make one."

The magician's eyes widened as her face turned bright red.

(Y/n): "Really? I had the door closed over for a reason, you could've knocked."

Kelso: "Where's the fun in that? Anyway, dinner is almost ready."

Zatanna rolled off (Y/n) and sat quietly on the bed while the agents bickered about privacy. She couldn't care less about their conversation, her mind was sent wandering from Kelso's words. She desperately wanted to be a mother but wasn't sure when the time would be right to try and have a baby.

(Y/n) had told her about his trip to Limbo during their time in the hospital, and though she was horrified by the fact that (Y/n) technically died a second time; she found the fact that his mind created several scenarios where they had a child very sweet to say the least.

Kelso: "Whatever, lock the door if you really want privacy."

(Y/n): "Grow up."

Kelso groaned and walked away, leaving an annoyed (Y/n) in her wake. Zatanna was still daydreaming when (Y/n) picked her up bridal style. She yelped and blushed hard as she felt his muscles press against her body.

(Y/n): "I'm carrying you to dinner."

The agent didn't even wait for his magician to respond. He simply started walking towards the stairs with her in his arms.

(Y/n) took his sweet time walking to the kitchen. They finally arrived and instantly earned the attention of everyone else.

Before anyone had a chance to comment, (Y/n) gently placed Zatanna down in her seat at the kitchen table. The magician sat there, incredibly flustered in front of her students, Kelso and Kandel, while (Y/n) grabbed them both plates full of food.

(Y/n): "This looks good, guys."

Traci: "Thanks. I just hope I made enough."

Mary: "I think we'll have plenty for everyone."

(Y/n) had his back to the group as he grabbed a glass of water for himself and Zatanna. He noticed the absence of Titan from his usual resting spot on the living room carpet and immediately knew where his furry partner was.

(Y/n): "Mary, stop feeding Titan."

Mary: "W-what?! I'm not... I'd never."

Mary quickly pushed Titan away before (Y/n) turned around. The German Shepherd simply walked around the table to Zatanna's side and rested his head on her lap.

The magician fought the urge to look down, fully knowing that if she made eye contact with the begging canine she'd give in and slip him some food.

(Y/n) returned to the table and sat down, finding Zatanna's concentration amusing and wanting to see how long she'd last before she inevitably gave into Titans pleading gaze.

It wasn't long.

(Y/n) casually looked away and smiled when he heard Titan chewing a piece of meat from Zatanna's plate.

(Y/n): "I can't tell Mary to not feed him food from her plate and then let you feed him some a minute later."

Zatanna: "How am I supposed to look at those eyes and not give him food?"

The agent shifted his gaze over to his dog as Titan moved to his side and started begging with his puppy dog eyes.

(Y/n): "Well played."

*Small Time Skip*

The group was cleaning up from dinner when Mary felt her phone buzz. She quickly checked the notification and jumped up from the couch.

Mary: "I've got to go. Beast Boy just sent out an alert to the Outsiders, we're meeting at the Tower in ten minutes."

Zatanna: "Alright. Stay safe and don't do anything you don't think you can handle."

(Y/n): "Don't hesitate to call us if you need help. And call us to check in the second you've finished the fight!"

Mary: "Yeah yeah, I got it!"

Mary raced off towards the zeta tube in the mansion's garage, using her magic to increase her speed.

Several minutes later the group was spread out in the living room, watching television as the fireplace roared.

Zatanna was snuggled up in (Y/n)'s lap as the two shared a love seat. Kelso and Kandel were sprawled out on the couch while Traci was petting Titan and sitting in a chair close to the Christmas tree.

Traci: "I have to go."

Traci suddenly jumped up after checking her phone and immediately made her way towards the kitchen.

Zatanna: "Is everything alright?"

Traci: "No... Joan Garrick... Bart's great grandma... she just passed away. I'm going to meet up with Bart and Jaime before the funeral tomorrow."

(Y/n): "Alright, tell Bart we're sorry for his loss."

Traci: "I will and I'll see everyone tomorrow night."

Traci rushed off towards the garage, leaving the agents, a doctor and magician to enjoy the night. The silence would be broken a few minutes later, as ISAC's robotic voice rang out and filled the room.

ISAC: "Priority transmission received."

Kandel: "I thought I told you to disable your alerts and forward everything to Kelso while you're on medical leave."

(Y/n): "Hey, I did!"

Kandel: "Well obviously not..."

Zatanna: "No, he did. That was from my pocket watch."

Zatanna carefully fished her pocket watch out of her sweater pocket and examined the now glowing face of the watch.

She gently turned the face clockwise and the watch started projecting the holographic message.

An orange holographic Kaldur and M'gann appeared in the middle of the living room, projected by Zatanna's watch.

Kaldur: "I apologize for using the emergency channel, but we didn't receive a response from your cell phone."

M'gann: "We need to ask you a few magical related questions for a mission, just to make sure we have all the important details down."

Zatanna: "Alright. (Y/n) and I are on our way."

The second the transmission ended Zatanna jumped up. She was quickly followed by her agent but the two were stopped in their tracks by Kandel clearing her throat.

(Y/n): "Oh come on, it's not a combat op. They just want some advice."

Kandel: "I'm not stopping you from going."

Zatanna: "Oh good, because for a second there-"

Kandel: "But..."

(Y/n): "Oh boy, here we go."

The doctor rolled her eyes before continuing as (Y/n) braced for another lecture about how he's careless with his own physical safety.

Kandel: "Under no circumstances are either of you allowed on a combat mission."

(Y/n): "Copy that, thanks doc."

(Y/n) quickly grabbed Zatanna's hand and led her out of the living room before anyone could stop them.

As the pair raced to the garage, Zatanna changed their clothes with a quick spell. A puff of smoke overtook both the agent and the magician. When they emerged, Zatanna was in her magician's uniform and (Y/n) his combat gear.

The zeta tube powered up and the pair of lovers stepped into the blinding light.

*Gotham City*

Snow gently drifted down onto a horse track just outside of Gotham City limits, creating a thin blanket of snow all across the track.

The horse track was closed down for the winter, the main building locked up and the small gates on the dirt road leading to the track closed off.

Despite the horse track being completely abandoned and well off the beaten path, three teenagers with nothing better to do broke into the building.

The group brought a large amount of alcohol and a small amount of drugs, planning on spending the afternoon drinking and getting high in the indoor observation deck of the race track.

The teenagers easily broke through an old wooden service door and made their way to the observation deck.

They quickly settled in and were relaxing, listening to music as the light snowfall continued outside.

Suddenly the sound of power tools being used echoed through the empty building.

The group instantly froze, fearing they'd be spotted by any potential construction worker led them to quickly pick up their drugs and alcohol.

"Hang on. Let's just see what's making that noise before we run out of here."

The "leader" of the group stopped his two friends before they could flee towards the exit. The group listened carefully and heard the sound once more but it was far quieter than before.

"We've gone through all the effort to get here, so let's just check out that noise. Think about it, if it was really a construction crew working on something we would've seen their trucks parked outside. It's probably just the generator or heater turning on."

"I-I don't know man... I've got a bad feeling about this."

The group's ringleader shrugged off his friend's concerns and started heading towards the stairs. The teenager quickly made his way down the stairs and to the basement.

Moving through the various small twists and turns of the basement, the teenager found himself stumbling across a large power cable running across the floor.

With his curiosity getting the better of him, the teenager decided to follow the cable from the portable generator to wherever it led him.

Before the teenager could figure out where the power cable led, he heard footsteps behind him.

The teenager spun around and was face to face with Red Hood.

The Watchtower

Zatanna and (Y/n) arrived through the zeta tube, the pair were greeted by Aquaman and Miss Martian.

Aquaman: "It is good to see you two out of the hospital."

(Y/n): "Yeah no kidding, any longer in there and I was going to go crazy."

Zatanna: "Going to? Oh please, you went crazy."

(Y/n): "I went crazy? You're the one who snapped first, remember our last night in the hospital? Who was it that started-"

Zatanna: "Alright! You made your point, now shut up."

(Y/n) laughed and tried to continue his story, only to be elbowed in the arm by Zatanna who glared into the agent's (e/c) eyes.

The agent froze, Zatanna's glare causing him to rethink everything and his words to die in his throat.

Miss Martian couldn't help but giggle at (Y/n)'s sudden change in attitude and Aquaman smiled at his friend's misery.

Zatanna: "So, Kaldur, M'gann, what do you need my help with?"

Aquaman sighed before turning to the holographic keyboard behind him and pulling up a map of Cuba on the Watchtower's computer.

Miss Martian: "It's Klarion. He's running a meta-teen smuggling ring out of Cuba. We need your help to identify a weakness our team can use."

Zatanna: "What team? Who do we have to work with?"

Miss Martian: "The Outsiders, or in any case, those not attending the funeral, are enroute to Cuba."

Zatanna: "Gar's group?! Alone, seriously?"

Miss Martian: "They can handle this."

Aquaman: "And they were our only option. The mission is potentially too public for the Team, and neither Cuba or the U.N would allow the Justice League to intervene."

Zatanna: "Are you forgetting who they're up against?!"

Zatanna crossed her arms and glared at the co-chair of the Justice League and leader of the Team. Both Miss Martian and Aquaman sighed in defeat as (Y/n) pressed them for more information.

(Y/n): "Have you tried Dr.Fate? He doesn't exactly care about the law or the League's charter, he'd go there the second you mention Klarion."

Aquaman: "We have tried to reach out to him, but he has not responded to our calls."

Zatanna: "Kaldur, if you can't find Fate, I have to go."

Aquaman: "Zatanna, you are a Leaguer. We dare not risk an international incident."

(Y/n): "I'll go with her and we'll stay under the radar."

Miss Martian: "You work for the Division, an American intelligence apparatus. You going with her would just make things worse if you get caught."

Zatanna: "Not to mention you still have several bruised ribs. You're staying here."

(Y/n): "I'm going with you or I'm ratting you out to Kandel the second I get home."

Zatanna: "You wouldn't dare."

(Y/n): "Try me."

(Y/n) moved to stand between his angry fiancée and the zeta tubes, crossing his arms and glaring back into her blue eyes. Zatanna placed her hands on her hips as the stare down intensified, Aquaman and Miss Martian waiting to see who would break first.

The magician broke the stare down. She stepped forward and poked (Y/n)'s chest as she spoke.

Zatanna: "Fine, but you follow my lead and you let me handle Klarion. Got it?"

(Y/n): "You're the boss."

Zatanna smiled as the zeta tube activated and she turned to face their friends one last time before heading to Cuba.

Zatanna: "We'll be back before you know it and don't say a thing to Kandel."

*Santiago De Cuba*

*Two Hours Later*

Zatanna and (Y/n) were flying through the air, heading towards a remote car depot on the coast of the island nation.

The agent was hating every minute of the flight. Though the pair of lovers were under the protection of Zatanna's glamor spell and thus couldn't be seen, (Y/n) hated it when Zatanna flew him around with her magic.

Though he had gotten better at trusting Zatanna's spells, he had a recurring fear that something would go terribly wrong and they'd end up hurling to the ground hundreds of feet below.

Zatanna: "I don't get it, you can jump out of aircraft without a problem and charge head first into some of the most dangerous battles we've ever seen... all while being calm, collected and without a hint of fear. But the second I lift you an inch off the ground with my magic, you're terrified."

(Y/n): "Just get us down!"

Zatanna: "Do you trust me?"

(Y/n): "Of course I do Zee! Just please get us down or at least make a magical platform for us to stand on!"

Zatanna: "I could do that, but I like watching you squirm."

The magician laughed as she spun (Y/n) around with her magic and the agent fought off a scream. He suddenly reached over and grabbed Zatanna's arm.

With an alarming amount of force, the agent pulled Zatanna into him and wrapped his arms around her in a tight embrace. The magician blushed hard and giggled, she soon wrapped her arms around (Y/n)'s bulky combat gear and gently kissed his cheek.

Zatanna: "We're here."

Dark red storm clouds had gathered overhead of the building as red lightning flashed in the sky. Zatanna carefully lowered herself and (Y/n) through a large hole in the roof.

The second the pair touched down the Outsiders rushed to their position.

Static: "Yeah! Zatanna and Vanguard are in the house!"

Zatanna: "No, no we're not in the house."

Sergeant Marvel: "Oh great, so now you don't trust us to do our job?"

(Y/n): "This isn't about that. Klarion is way out of your league. We're here to help."

Beast Boy: "I thought Leaguers weren't allowed in Cuba."

Zatanna: "Which is why we aren't in the house. We're just here to help stop Klarion. My glamor spell hides us from any non Outsider."

Klarion: "Or any non-Chaos Lords. We see you, YOU LITTLE WITCH!"

Klarion's voice echoed throughout the building as the Chaos Lord's eyes turned blood red.

(Y/n) and Zatanna were horrified at the sudden appearance of a giant flesh monster behind Klarion. The massive creature had eyes all across its body with sharp claws, sharper teeth in its mouth and spikes poking out from its arms.

Zatanna: "Distract Klarion while I deal with... that thing."

Beast Boy turned into an elephant and charged. Static, Sergeant Marvel and Vanguard advanced beside him. The Chaos Lord shot blasts of red lightning at each of the heroes, forcing them to dive for cover.

Beast Boy wasn't able to dodge the attack and a massive puff of red smoke erupted from where he stood a moment ago.

Static: "Beast Boy!"

Static froze in shock at the sudden disappearance of his team leader.

(Y/n) held Sergeant Marvel down as the lightning shot overhead. She easily pushed him off and started to get up but was grabbed once again by (Y/n) and pulled down as another blast of lightning sailed overhead.

Sergeant Marvel: "Don't you trust me?! I thought you two believed in me!"

(Y/n): "I do Mary! But trust goes both ways! And I trust you to let us help when your team needs it. Klarion is a god and Zee has some experience dealing with gods."

Mary sighed and slumped down against the half crushed car they were pressed against. She nudged (Y/n) with her elbow and prompted him to get up so they could join the fight.

Sergeant Marvel: "Beast Boy has him distracted, cover me while I get close to him."

(Y/n): "You got it, kid."

The agent pushed himself up and saw that Klarion was flailing around, waving his arms like he was fighting off a swarm of bees.

(Y/n) figured that Beast Boy must be in the form of an insect and repeatedly stinging the Lord of Chaos. He didn't have to do anything and soon Mary yelled for Beast Boy to clear the way.

Sergeant Marvel: "Beast Boy, out of the way! POWER OF ZEUS!"

Beast Boy transformed into a falcon and quickly flew away from Klarion. By the time the Chaos Lord realized what was happening it was too late. Sergeant Marvel punched Klarion across the face with her magic, her fist supercharged by her magic.

The powerful magic punch sent Klarion flying across the room and smashing into a pile of scrap metal.

(Y/n) couldn't help but smile as he watched Sergeant Marvel retreat to his position and get ready to face Klarion again, once the Chaos Lord picked himself up.

Across the open warehouse, Zatnna was levitating several feet off the ground and had a soft white aura glowing around her entire body.

She cracked her knuckles and extended her hands towards the giant flesh monster.

With power surging through her body and the words coming to her without any effort, Zatanna increased her altitude to match the head of the giant creature and cast her spell.

The creature immediately started glowing bright white as Zatanna's magic split it apart from the inside. A half second later and a bright blinding white light overtook the entire warehouse.

The light disappeared as the creature roared out one last time before it was destroyed, freeing the captive children from inside.

The children all fell to the ground with several loud thumps.

Zatanna landed gracefully and rushed to the children who lay scattered about on the floor. She made sure that (Y/n) and the others were doing alright holding off Klarion before casting another quick spell that freed the children from Klarion's control.

The magician sighed as she looked at the barely conscious children, each had a visible mutation that ranged from a full body mutation to smaller ones restricted to a single limb.

Zatanna: "Wonder Girl, check the children for physical injuries. I need to get the witch boy out of here, this spell isn't going to be easy."

The magician narrowed her gaze as she stepped towards Klarion, the white aura returning to her body as she prepared herself to cast her final spell.

Zatanna: "Beast Boy, Sergeant Marvel, get clear! Vanguard, to me. NOW!"

The three heroes followed their orders in a heartbeat. Beast Boy and Sergeant Marvel dashed out of the way as (Y/n) jumped up and started sprinting towards Zatanna.

The agent stopped himself right beside Zatanna and turned to face the Chaos Lord, raising his rifle and trying to find the witch boy's familiar incase he needed to end Klarion's time on the mortal plain.

(Y/n): "Tell me you have a plan, because my rifle isn't going to touch him."

Zatanna didn't answer. She simply stepped forward as her hands began to glow an all too familiar golden light.

Zatanna: "Rehtaf, ediug ym yenruoj hguorht S'etaf Yloh Hkna!"

The glowing cross of Dr. Fate suddenly emerged in the center of the warehouse, casting a bright golden glow across the entire open room.

Klarion: "No fair! That doesn't belong to you!"

Before anyone had a chance to react, the golden cross came crashing down, encompassing Zatanna, (Y/n), Klarion and his familiar, Teekl.

When the golden light faded away, Zatanna collapsed to her knees as (Y/n) knelt down beside her. He quickly realized that the floor was different.

The agent looked up and found that Zatanna's spell had taken them all to the Tower of Fate.

(Y/n)'s eyes were drawn back down to Zatanna when he heard her panting and desperately gasping for air. Teleporting them to the tower, which was technically its own dimension, had completely drained her of energy.

The agent's heart skipped a beat when he heard Klarion's laughter.

Klarion: "Look at you two, you're pathetic."

Teekl meowed at Klarion but the witch boy ignored his familiar and stepped towards Zatanna and (Y/n).

The agent quickly jumped up and stood in front of Zatanna, desperate to protect her from Klarion no matter what.

Klarion: "You've got no magic and your little witch is a stage magician at best. I am a Chaos Lord. You'll both suffer for interfering with my plans!"

Before (Y/n) could come up with a plan, Teekl meowed again. This time Klarion snapped his head back to look at his familiar and annoyingly asked what was wrong.

Klarion: "Look around? At what?"

As Klarion had his back turned to the agent, (Y/n) took his only chance to escape. He quickly grabbed Zatanna and picked her up bridal style before dashing towards a set of stairs leading down to another platform.

Klarion: "No way! No way can we let Nabu catch us here!"

Teekl meowed again and Klarion turned around just as (Y/n) made it to the next platform.

Klarion: "Oh no you don't! You brought us here so you can send us back!"

(Y/n) could hear the lightning leaving Klarion's fingertips and knew he had no possible way of dodging it. The agent braced for impact while telling Zatanna he was sorry. He noticed the fear in her eyes the moment before the lightning hit them.

The lovers collapsed onto the stone floor, screaming in pain as Klarion's red lightning sent powerful surges of electricity through their bodies.

Zatanna reached over and grabbed (Y/n)'s hand, she squeezed it as tight as she could, using all of her remaining strength to look over at her lover.

As Klarion's footsteps approached, Zatanna could only watch in horror as (Y/n) struggled to push himself up. He barely got to his knees when Klarion's lightning intensified.

Zatanna: "(Y-Y/n)! AHHH!"

(Y/n): "Z-Zee! Hang on!"

The magician fought to stay conscious but with her body drained of energy she knew it was hopeless. The last thing she heard before blacking out was (Y/n)'s voice telling her to stay with him.
