Chapter 51: A Sentinel of Order

3rd Person POV:

Zatanna stepped into the tower of Fate, determined to put an end to whatever games Fate was playing with their destinies.

Dr. Fate immediately appeared in a bright flash, blinding Zatanna before lowering himself to the ground.

Dr. Fate: "Child of magic, why are you here?! I have not summoned you, you are not ready!"

Zatanna: "I'm through with your goddamn games! You are going to get everyone together and we are going to rescue (Y/n)!"

Dr. Fate: "You know little of what is transpiring here, your agent is worth sacrificing to Circe for some time if it means order prevails throughout the world."

Zatanna: "NO! He's not worth sacrificing! I'm more than ready to beat Circe and if you told me what I'd be going up against in the first place I would've been ready! She's been in my head for months!Tormenting me every night I'm alone, away from (Y/n)!"

Dr. Fate flinched at the mention of Zatanna's nightmares, specifically how they went away when she spent nights without (Y/n). The Lord of Order retreated away towards the giant bell in the center of the tower and opened a portal for Zatanna to walk through.

Dr. Fate: "This conversation is over, you are not ready."

Zatanna: "This pocket watch says otherwise. Elbmessa enoyreve ew deen ot taeb Ecric!"

Dr. Fate froze in midair, a split second later the god had opened several portals around Zatanna. Wonder Girl, Blue Beetle, Traci, Mary and Khalid entered the Tower with a look of confusion across their faces.

Dr. Fate crashed down to the ground as the portals snapped shut and a white aura formed around Zatanna's body. She started levitating a few feet above the ground as Fate fell to his knees.

Zatanna: "We are going to stop Circe and rescue (Y/n), and we are going now!"

Dr. Fate slowly stood up as the effects of Zatanna's spell wore off. Zatanna found herself holding her breath as she awaited Fate's reaction.

Dr. Fate: "You need to know, when the time comes, you will be alone against Circe. If we are to save Vanguard and prevent Circe from breaking the spell containing her, we must divide our forces. I can repair the spell and ensure it will never weaken again, but to do so I must be here, in the tower. Wonder Girl, Blue Beetle and Khalid will be needed to distract Circe's army and lead it away from the castle. That will leave you, Traci and Mary to deal with Circe, (Y/n) and Constantine."

Zatanna: "How do I free him?"

Dr. Fate: "You must break Circe's hold over him, you have everything you need to bring your agent home."

Zatanna: "Let's get going."

Fate opened a portal and the group rushed through, arriving in a field. The group could see Circe's castle in the distance. In the foreground before the castle, the group saw a large army marching towards them, burning the forest as they advanced.

Smoke already filled the air as ashes started to land all around the heroes.

————————————————————————

In the main courtyard of Circe's castle, (Y/n) was dressed in a medieval chainmail armour with a white chest plate. The agent has a bow and arrow over his shoulder and a sword attached to his belt. His now purple eyes shone brightly as Circe stepped up to his side. The pair were watching Circe's army prepare defences of the castle for the inevitable attack.

Circe: "I can feel that Nabu is starting to strengthen the spell keeping me bound to this horrible place. If he finishes it I won't be able to project magic beyond the beaches of this island. We must deal with the magical children he's unleashed against us before capturing Zatanna and breaking the spell."

(Y/n): "As you wish."

Circe: "How will your friends attack us?"

(Y/n): "They will most likely attempt to draw the main army away from the castle and isolate us."

Circe: "And how would you beat them?"

(Y/n): "Let them think their plan is working. Allow the main army to be drawn out of the castle and into whatever battle the heroes wish to fight. We should keep Constantine and a small force inside the castle and use them to separate and kill the heroes that attempt to attack us here."

Circe: "When the time comes, I want you to kill Zatanna. As she's dying I should be able to get enough of her power to break the spell."

(Y/n): "I promise you, mistress. I will not hesitate."

Circe: "Good, I know you won't."

————————————————————————

Zatanna, Mary, and Traci carefully maneuvered through the forest. The group could hear the battle in the distance and see the occasional fireball get launched high above the trees by the large catapults used by Circe's army.

Traci: "D-do you think Blue and Wonder Girl will be okay?"

Mary: "Didn't you kiss him for good luck?"

Traci: "How is that relevant?"

Mary: "It isn't, I'm just pointing it out."

Zatanna: "They will be fine, but let's ensure they don't have to fight for long."

Mary: "Do you know where (Y/n) will be in the castle?"

Zatanna: "My best guess is right beside Circe. She wants me to surrender my magic to her, so she'll keep (Y/n) close, forcing me to face her."

Traci: "So we find Circe, we find (Y/n). It shouldn't be that hard to get him and run away."

Zatanna: "We can't just run. Circe will keep chipping away at the spell until she's free. So I'm going to end this, once and for all."

Mary: "How?"

Zatanna: "Circe wants to take my power, we'll I'm going to take hers."

Traci: "W-wait... isn't Circe a goddess? A-are you sure you can absorb that much power?"

Zatanna: "I should be able to hold it long enough to free (Y/n) and deal a devastating blow to Circe. Come on, we've got a lot of ground to cover."

Zatanna stepped forward, leading the group through the thick forest. No clear path presented itself so the group was forced to weave their way through the trees and shrubbery as the nearby battle raged on with unmatched fury.

Zatanna: "Stay close to me and stay down. Using your magic will only help Circe locate us."

Traci: "What are we going to do, we have no hope of fighting a goddess, not to mention this Constantine guy and (Y/n)."

*Flashback*

(During Season 1)

Zatanna and (Y/n) were atop Mt. Justice, admiring the view of Happy Harbour and the surrounding countryside. Both the agent and the magician were in hiking gear and completely exhausted.

Zatanna wiped the sweat off her brow as a strand of hair slipped out of her ponytail and fell down, dangling beside her face as her eyes ran all over the agent's body without him noticing.

(Y/n) stood up and stretched attempting to hide his excitement. He'd offered to take everyone hiking on the small hiking trip and only Zatanna accepted, which is exactly what he wanted.

Zatanna: "How do you do this regularly? I mean even for training it's excessive."

(Y/n): "You never know what it will take to finish a mission, this way I'll be prepared."

Zatanna: "You really think you'll need to have this much stamina to finish a mission."

(Y/n): "Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts."

Zatanna: "Winston Churchill? You're full of surprises."

(Y/n): "He's not wrong, no matter success or failure you've got to keep going. You may think you did terrible hiking today, but you kept going and you eventually made it. That's what counts."

Zatanna: "I'm not looking forward to walking down the mountain."

(Y/n): "Well, it's all part of the journey."

Zatanna smiled and the agent froze when he noticed it. He was foreign to being gripped by fear this way but the look of fear on his face only emboldened Zatanna.

(Y/n): "NO! No, don't even think about it! Zatanna NO!"

Zatanna: "Etativel (N/y) dna I!"

(Y/n): "ZATANNA PUT ME DOWN!"

*End of Flashback*

Zatanna: "Failure isn't fatal. It's the courage to continue that counts. We may not succeed right away, but we're going to keep fighting until we do."

Mary: "I know (Y/n) told you that quote and I know you're just trying to keep our hopes up, but we really need a plan."

Zatanna: "I'll explain everything on the way, just keep going."

After an hour-long journey the three magic users arrived at the base of Circe's castle, the battle still raging on in the distance and growing ever closer.

Traci: "Please don't tell me we have to climb this massive wall."

Zatanna: "Alright, I won't tell you."

Mary: "All this just to spring a trap we know is laying in wait for us?"

Zatanna: "Alright listen up, this is the plan. I'm going to fly up and over the wall to face Circe in the courtyard. I'll drop you two off through a window on the way up. You'll need to sneak around and find (Y/n) so we can free him from Circe's mind control."

Mary: "Ok, but what if Circe has him standing next to her. She has to know he is her best weapon against us, she could be waiting to use him as a human shield against you."

Zatanna: "If she is using him as a shield then I'll hold out until you two figure out a way to separate them. Remember, Circe knows I'm coming, she has no idea you two are here."

Mary: "We'll figure it out, let's get moving."

Back in the forest, the battle between the heroes and Circe's army was raging with an intensity the young heroes have never seen. Blue Beetle and Wonder Girl were constantly fleeing further into the forest in an attempt to draw the army away from their heavy weapons and the open field. Doing so would force the army to break its large square formation and pursue them on foot where the heroes could easily isolate and destroy small groups.

Wonder Girl: "Khalid, are you alright?!"

Khalid: "I'm fine! But we have a serious problem with those catapults!"

Wonder Girl: "I'm working on it!"

Blue Beetle: "Well work faster! Fall back, we can't let them surround us."

Suddenly the archers of the army each shot an arrow, the massive amount of arrows blocked out the moon in the night sky as the heroes grouped together around Khalid.

The young magic user quickly bent several large trees overtop of the group, shielding them from the onslaught of arrows that landed all around them.

Khalid: "We can't keep this up for long, we're running out of forest to retreat into!"

Blue Beetle: "Yeah, even I'm starting to get tired. Let's hope they've at least located (Y/n), we just need to keep stalling."

————————————————————————

Artemis arrived back at her shared house with Will Harper. Will was in the middle of putting Lian to bed when Artemis walked through the front door.

Artemis quickly cleaned up the kitchen, putting away the few dishes left out to dry and sipping down the counter before sitting down at the dinner table to catch her breath.

Will: "I can heat you up some of the leftovers in the fridge if you'd like."

Artemis: "No thanks, I'm not in the mood for eating."

Will: "I take it you couldn't get a hold of our friendly detective."

Artemis: "I can't find Dick, I can't find Zatanna or any of her students. Nobody has heard from Fate and on top of that I couldn't even find Kelso. It's like they all vanished."

Will: "Let's try again tomorrow, we have to do something with her. What about the other one?"

Artemis: "The Prince is staying with M'gann and Conner. Conner is trying to help him manage his anger problems but as you know it's not something that happens overnight."

Will: "What about the other agent, Kelso. I know you texted her when (Y/n) was captured."

Artemis: "Kaldur said she made one hell of an entrance on the Watchtower but left after a brief exchange of words with the League. I tried calling her and I went to her house in Hawaii, but she wasn't home."

Will: "I'm sure she's just busy with work, they've been running all over the world doing the Leagues job after the U.N restrictions passed."

Artemis: "Yeah... I don't know, something just seems off, I'm not sure what though."

————————————————————————

*Mexico City, Mexico*

Kelso walked through the crowded streets of Mexico City in the late afternoon. Dressed in casual clothes to blend in with the city's inhabitants, the agent weaved her way through the crowd just like every other agent in the surrounding area.

Kelso, Sutton, Ann along with several supporting agents are attempting to arrest a Black Tusk representative, meeting with a high ranking official in the Mexican government. The only problem is they have no idea who the Black Tusk representative is, they are operating on partial communications that were intercepted and decrypted.

Ann: "I don't see the government official in the restaurant, the patio is also clear."

Kelso checked over her shoulder to find absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. The agents mind has been running on overdrive since "escaping" Ortega and Coswald. She's been trying to handle the problems with the Division on her own but she needs help and has no idea who to trust.

Outside of (Y/n) she's not sure she can trust anyone. The only problem is she can't bring herself to involve (Y/n). He's got to many friends and family that they could hurt to get to him. She won't be responsible for him losing a loved one.

Kelso: "Just keep looking. They have to be here."

Kelso turned her attention to a nearby street corner as a SUV and large delivery truck turned the corner. The laundry truck stopped as the SUV sped up and rolled down its windows. Kelso's eyes widened as she saw the barrel of a gun poke out from the inside of the car.

Kelso: "GET DOWN!"

Gunshots rang out, cutting down civilians indiscriminately. The other agents acted swiftly, taking cover to avoid the onslaught of bullets and the stampede of fleeing civilians.

As Kelso hid behind a row of street vendors she noticed masked men jumping out of the delivery truck.

Kelso: "Contacts in the street, Sutton, what's your status?"

ISAC: "Error, communication malfunction detected."

Kelso: "FUCK!"

Seconds later the street was engulfed in a massive firefight. Agents were separated into small groups, fighting for cover wherever they could find it.

The masked shooters far outnumbered the agents and enjoyed a superiority in weapons. The agents in their civilian clothes could only bring handguns with a few extra magazines of ammunition.

Automatic gunfire quickly chewed through the agents' cover, forcing them to fall back and flee their attackers.

Kelso: "SUTTON! SUTTON FALL BACK!"

Kelso struggled to be heard from her hiding spot across the street. She quickly realized that with no clear way to communicate to the rest of the agents, they were on their own. It was every agent for themselves.

Kelso ducked back down behind the street vendors' carts as three gunmen with automatic rifles slowly walked up to her position, firing the entire way.

Kelso slid out, firing at her attackers and dropping the first two with several shots from her handgun. The third scrambled behind a parked car as Kelso returned to her hiding spot to reload. Explosions rang out from the other side of the street as the battle intensified.

Sutton grabbed a large knife from inside the restaurant and rushed a group of four gunmen with his handgun in his other hand.

By the time the gunmen saw Sutton he was already on top of the group. Sutton lunged forward and stabbed the closest man in the neck before shooting him twice in the gut. Spinning around a half second later, Sutton slammed three more rounds into another gunman's chest before throwing the large knife farthest hostile.

Sutton finished his rampage by grabbing a submachine gun off the pavement and riddling the final gunman with bullets.

A short time later the agents had regrouped in a small hotel just outside of the city. Kelso assessed the disaster while Ann and a few other surviving agents quickly packed up everything in the hotel room.

Ann: "Once you finish that case throw it in the truck and help me start prepping the room."

Agent: "On it."

Kelso slumped down into a chair in the corner of the room. Letting out a frustrated sigh before opening her eyes.

Kelso: "How many did we lose?"

Sutton: "Edwards and David are still MIA, they could turn up at the safe house. We have confirmation that Tyler, Michele and John were killed in the ambush."

Kelso: "Fucking hell."

Sutton: "It's not your fault. We were obviously set up."

Kelso: "That's exactly what makes it my fault."

————————————————————————

Zatanna flew overtop of the castle wall, eyes glowing white and a soft white aura encasing her body.

Zatanna's first attack sent lightning strikes down all around the courtyard, destroying the small garrison Circe placed defending the castle.

Circe's laughter echoed all around Zatanna as the goddess emerged from a large door leading into the castle.

Circe: "So, you've finally shown up to save your precious agent."

Zatanna: "Where is he?!"

Circe: "I must say, I can understand why you like him. He's very... skilled."

Zatanna snapped. Her eyes shone a brighter white as she used her magic to throw everything that wasn't nailed down at Circe.

The goddess swiftly retaliated by flying up, clear of Zatanna's initial attack and launching a blast of purple magic at Zatanna.

Zatanna: "Dleihs! Sdrol fo Redro, evig em ruoy rewop!"

A giant white shield emerged, blocking Circe's attack and allowing Zatanna a small moment to charge up her next attack. A split second later Zatanna launched a giant blast of white magic at Circe, who raised her own shield to defend herself.

Circe was swiftly overpowered and the purple shield soon started to crack, Zatanna's magic digging in and ripping the goddess's shield to shreds. When the shield broke Circe was sent flying back and temporarily blinded.

By the time the goddess recovered she opened her eyes to see Zatanna flying straight for her. Zatanna punched Circe across the face the second she was close enough. Circe rolled with the first punch and tried to bring her hands up to defend herself, only to be met with another punch from Zatanna.

Zatanna continued to punch Circe over and over again, until the goddess blasted Zatanna with a powerful shot of purple fire. Zatanna crashed down to the courtyard below and landed in a wagon full of hay.

Circe landed by the large door and swiftly limped back inside of the castle, sending a large group of her soldiers and Constantine to stall Zatanna.

Zatanna pushed herself out of the wagon and brushed her disheveled hair out of her face. For a brief moment her eyes returned to their normal beautiful blue but snapped back to glowing white when she saw Constantine.

Constantine: "Hello, love. Come to die have you?"

Zatanna: "I'm going to make this hurt."

Constantine smiled as he summoned flames in both his hands while slowly walking towards Zatanna. The magician snapped her fingers and the ground all around her ignited in a bright white flames.

Zatanna: "Nrub eseht sretsnom ot hsa!"

———————————————————————-

Mary and Traci were weaving their way through the castle, desperate to find anything that would hint at (Y/n)'s location.

Traci: "What are we even looking for?"

Mary: "I don't know. I guess we'll find out when we see it."

Traci: "Every hallway in this place looks the same, are you sure we aren't walking in circles?"

The girls were suddenly forced to hide beside a small statue of a dragon as two knights marched through the hallway intersection a few feet before them. The girls let out a sigh of relief when the knights passed without noticing them.

Mary: "Well, we haven't seen any soldiers until now, so let's see what they're guarding."

The pair krept up to the corner and watched the knights round another corner about 30 feet away. The second the hallway was clear, the pair turned and swiftly ran down the opposite direction, arriving at a large wooden door leading to Circe's throne room.

Mary forced the door open and Traci stepped in after her. The room was completely dark and the doors snapped shut while glowing with purple magic. Suddenly every torch in the room lit up, completely illuminating the entire throne room.

Circe: "Hello, girls. A pleasure to meet you."

Mary and Traci turned back around to face the throne and saw Circe sitting in her throne with (Y/n) standing by her side.

Circe: "I must admit I thought Zatara's daughter would send someone with a better chance at success to free the agent here. She no must have told you that this amulet, when properly charged, lets me restrict every bit of magic in the surrounding area but my own."

As Circe was screwing the gem stone into its position in the amulet, Traci stepped forward and shot a blast of her own magic towards Circe. The second Traci's bad luck magic hit, the gem shattered into hundreds of small pieces and Circe froze.

Circe: "You'll regret that. (Y/n), kill them both."

(Y/n): "As you wish."

The agent drew his sword and charged. Circe followed close behind, purple fire engulfing both her hands.

Traci: "RUN!"

Mary: "Power of Zeus!"

Mary charged Circe and attempted to punch the goddess. (Y/n) lunged at Mary and slammed into her, pushing her away from Circe as she attacked Traci. Traci dropped to the ground instantly as the blast of purple fire soared overhead, crashing into the large door and blowing it clean off its hinges.

Traci pushed herself up and shot a blast of bad luck magic at Circe. The goddess quickly deflected the attack and the magic impacted the floor, causing it to cave in that very second. Mary and Circe fell through, landing in the library below as a cloud of dust slowly filled the entire room.

(Y/n) stood up and drew his bow and arrow, taking aim at Traci. The agent fired one arrow and the shot grazed Traci's cheek, forcing her to flee before (Y/n) could fire again.

Traci ran back down the hall with (Y/n) in close pursuit, steadily gaining ground on the terrified girl.

A floor below, Mary hid beside a bookshelf in the dark library. She could hear Circe's footsteps echoing all around her. Mary held her breath for fear of being discovered as she watched a shadow move by.

Circe: "Come here brat. Let's get this over with, I promise I'll make it quick."

Mary was desperately looking for a door when she shifted her weight to look to her right and accidentally knocked a book off a shelf. The second the large book hit the ground, Circe launched an attack in her direction. The blast sent Mary flying and crashing into a larger bookshelf.

The purple fire died out almost instantly with the exception of the small amount held in Circe's hand. Mary scrambled back until her back was pressed against the wall. She was trapped, cornered as Circe approached.

Mary: "Shaza-MHRRR!"

Circe smiled and grabbed Mary's head, covering her mouth and pinning her against the wall. The terrified girl thrashed about while using her last bit of breath to mutter out one last cry.

Circe: "The wizard can't hear you girl. You're all alone, and now, you will watch your mentor die."

Mary's eyes teared up as the fire in Circe's hand intensified the closer she moved it to Mary's face.

————————————————————————

Constantine crashed through the large wooden doors to the castle, his jacket on fire and large cuts all across his body. Close behind him, Zatanna calmly walked into the castle, the entire courtyard burning behind her.

A blast of lightning left Zatanna's fingertips and impacted the ground beneath Constantine, sending him hurling through the air and crashing down onto the stone floor.

Zatanna: "Where is he?!"

Constantine: "Mistress Circe will never let him go! You'll be forced to kill him, as you will with me!"

Zatanna: "WRONG ANSWER!"

A split second later, Zatanna had ignited the entire room in bright white magic. Constantine ran forward, shooting blasts of purple magic at Zatanna only to have her deflect them with little effort.

Zatanna retaliated with a single attack that wrapped around Constantine and forced him to his knees. The enslaved man thrashed about and suddenly stopped as Zatanna placed her hand on his forehead.

Zatanna: "I esnaelc uoy fo lla lanretxe lortnoc revo ruoy snoitca!"

The glowing purple in Constantine's eyes intensified before slowly fading out and being replaced with a soft white aura matching Zatanna's. When Zatanna removed her hand Constantine fell forward and struggled to catch his breath.

Constantine: "Th-thank you... it's been months since I've been able to control my own body."

Zatanna: "Do you know what Circe's plan is, where is she keeping (Y/n)?"

Constantine: "She plans to make you-HRK!"

Constantine suddenly coughed up an alarming amount of blood. Zatanna jumped back in shock as his blood splattered across her chest. Her eyes travelled down and saw a spear poking out of Constantine's chest. Suddenly Circe's laughter filled the room as Constantine fell on his side.

A second layer and Constantine's entire body was on fire. A crack in the stones opened up and skeleton-like hands reached up, pulling Constantine down into the underworld while his body burned.

Circe: "Well, that was to be expected. He sold his soul to every devil imaginable."

Zatanna spun around, finding Circe in her red dress holding a spear encased in purple magic.

Zatanna: "Last chance, give me (Y/n) and we will all walk away, you can spend the rest of eternity ruling over this island completely undisturbed."

Circe: "I'm going to make (Y/n) kill you the second I've absorbed your power, when he screams in horror I'll drive a sword through his chest and you can both die together."

Zatanna got into her fighting stance as the white aura returned to her body. She felt the power from the pocket watch surge into her body at a remarkable rate.

Circe flew forward, swinging the spear at Zatanna who caught it and kicked Circe in the ribs, taking the spear for herself. Zatanna used her magic to snap the spear in two and toss it away.

Circe retaliated by launching several blasts of purple fire at Zatanna, forcing her to summon a shield to protect herself from the onslaught of fireballs. Zatanna continued to stagger back until she felt her back press against the wall. Circe continued the assault, cracking Zatanna's shield before forming several purple daggers with her magic and launching them at the shield.

The daggers all stuck into Zatanna's shield and ripped it apart. Sending an explosive blast that knocked both the girls down. Circe was the first to pick herself up and laughed as she walked towards Zatanna who was struggling to pull herself out of her dazed state.

Circe: "Your powers are impressive, I'll give you that. But did you honestly think you could come here and beat me? I'm a god, nothing can keep me contained. You're all alone, surrender your power to me and I'll let your pathetic students walk free. If you refuse, your boyfriend will kill them on the spot. (Y/n), bring in the garbage."

Zatanna turned her attention to the large door leading deeper into the castle. It violently swung open and (Y/n) walked through, dragging an unconscious Traci and Mary who were tied up in chains.

(Y/n) dragged the two unconscious girls to the center of the room and dropped the chains before slowly walking to Circe's side.

Circe: "Well, what will it be?"

Zatanna: "I will never let you off this island!"

Circe: "(Y/n), kill them."

The agent drew his bow and readied an arrow, taking aim at Mary before hesitating. His struggle was now visible as Circe grew annoyed. Despite (Y/n)'s internal struggle, he couldn't overcome the influence of Circe's magic. The purple glow returned to his eyes as Circe screamed out her order for a second time.

Circe: "Shoot them! NOW!"

Zatanna: "I'm so sorry."

Zatanna formed a white fireball and launched it at (Y/n), hitting the agent in the back and sending him crashing across the room. Circe spun back around just in time to receive another fireball to the face. She crashed to the ground as Zatanna shot lightning at her.

Zatanna started levitating a few feet off the ground, putting all her energy into the lightning strikes which breezed through Circe's defenses.

Circe's body flew across the room, eventually coming to rest in the corner of the large room.

Zatanna raced to (Y/n)'s side and pushed him onto his back. Before she could see if he was alright his eyes shot open, shining a bright purple. Zatanna attempted to cast another spell but (Y/n) grabbed her throat with one hand and covered her mouth with the other.

Zatanna screamed and tried to push (Y/n) off of her but it was too late. She was pinned on the ground and saw Circe walking towards them out of the corner of her eye.

In a desperate attempt to save herself, Zatanna fished the pocket watch out of her jacket and pressed it against (Y/n)'s neck. The white aura that surrounds the watch spidered out across (Y/n)'s skin and caused the agent to roll off Zatanna while screaming in pain.

Circe fought to maintain her control over (Y/n) as Zatanna slipped the pocket watch back into her jacket.

Circe: "So, you've figured out what makes you two so special. It doesn't matter."

Zatanna: "I knew there was something special about us. Every night we spent together you couldn't get into my head, he's a conduit and amplifier for my power."

Circe: "Only because you believe him to be! (Y/n), kill Zatanna!"

(Y/n) drew an arrow and took aim at Zatanna as Circe moved to his side. The agent was desperately fighting Circe's control and he was losing, the white magic left by the pocket watch rapidly disappearing the closer Circe got.

Zatanna: "I love you more than anything! Please just fight it a little longer! Hang on for me!"

(Y/n) squeezed his eyes shut as the purple magic started to fade from his eyes. Circe became increasingly enraged at the agents' resistance and stepped forward ready to attack Zatanna once again.

Circe: "Fine, I'll just beat you myself and kill your boyfriend, he's of no further use to me! You will suffer in ways you didn't know were possible!"

That second, (Y/n) let the arrow fly. It soared through the room and impacted Circe's shoulder a second later. Circe screamed in pain and attacked (Y/n). The agent brought his arms up to defend himself but Circe's attack still sent him crashing into the wall.

Zatanna stepped forward, with her strength returned she was ready to end the battle for good.

Zatanna: "Lla ythgim sdog, tnarg em ruoy rewop ot nosirpmi eht sserecros Ecric ni eht dlrowrednu!"

Circe froze as her body was surrounded by Zatanna's white magic, the aura trapping her as Zatanna levitated in the center of the room, eyes glowing bright white and hair flowing like she was standing in a hurricane.

Zatanna: "Ecric! I hsinab uoy ot eht dlrowrednu rof ruoy semirc tsniaga eht sdog dna tsniaga siht dlrow!"

Circe: "NO! NO THIS ISN'T POSSIBLE!"

The ground opened up, revealing the burning hell of the underworld. Victims of the underworld, rotting, flesh melting hands reached up in an attempt to grab Circe.

Circe: "I AM A GOD! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!"

Zatanna: "I ecnetnes uoy ot na ytinrete ni eht dlrowrednu!"

Circe was suddenly thrown down into the underworld, rotting hands of the damned grabbing and pulling her down as the crack slowly returned to normal. The last thing heard was Circe swearing revenge before the crack shut and an eerie silence overtook the room.

The second Zatanna was certain Circe was gone she rushed to (Y/n)'s side. The agent was on his knees and catching his breath. Before he could say anything Zatanna had clamped a hand down onto his forehead and placed another on his shoulder.

Zatanna: "Htiw eht rewop detsevni ni em yb eht sdog I esnaelc uoy fo lla lanretxe lortnoc revo ruoy snoitca!"

(Y/n)'s eyes flashed a bright white before returning to their normal (e/c) colour. Sweat ran down his face as the agent looked up at his magician.

As (Y/n) stood up he struggled to speak, before he could form a word Zatanna pulled him into her and smashed her lips against his. (Y/n) moaned back into Zatanna's mouth as his arms snaked around her body and pulled her in as close as he could.

Zatanna refused to break the kiss, keeping her lips locked to (Y/n)'s as she devoured him like they'd been separated for months.

One of Zatanna's legs wrapped around (Y/n)'s as the two sank further into their moment. Zatanna's hands found their way to the agent's neck and kept his head in place until they were both out of breath.

Zatanna: "I missed you so much, and I'm so sorry you got left behind."

(Y/n): "I-it's okay, Zee. I knew you'd come back for me."

Zatanna: "I-I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry, (Y/n). What Circe... what she did to you."

(Y/n): "Hey, hey, she didn't do anything. She was just trying to get into your head. She knew that if she could keep you off balance and get in your head, she could win."

Zatanna buried her head into (Y/n)'s neck and sobbed as he gently ran his hand through her hair.

Just as Zatanna and (Y/n) started releasing Mary and Traci from the chains, Wonder Girl, Blue Beetle and Khalid ran through the door from the scorched remains of the courtyard.

Blue Beetle: "Traci!"

Blue raced to Traci's side and pulled her into a hug when she was free from the chains.

Traci: "I-I'm good, Jaime."

Mary: "I'm alright as well, thanks for asking."

Wonder Girl: "(Y/n), are you alright?"

(Y/n): "Yeah, yeah I'm good. Thanks guys."

Zatanna: "I take it Circe's army has been dealt with?"

Khalid: "Yeah. The zombie-like people in the armor just suddenly turned to dust."

Zatanna: "Circe's magic must've been the only thing holding them together."

Wonder Girl: "How did you beat Circe?"

Zatanna: "I used the power of the gods to banish her to the underworld."

Wonder Girl: "I didn't know you could summon that much power, or wield it with any degree of accuracy."

Zatanna: "I wasn't sure I could do it. But that's a story for another time. I'm completely exhausted and I want to go home."

(Y/n): "I also would like to go home, and maybe change out of this armor into something a little more... modern."

(Y/n)'s POV:

Zatanna and I arrived back home late in the evening. I have no idea what time or day it is and to be honest I couldn't care less. I just need sleep more than anything.

By the time Zatanna forced me to eat something and us cleaning up after, I was on the verge of passing out. I got undressed and had a shower before cleaning the many cuts across my chest and back the best I could.

When I finished cleaning one of the longer gashes long my chest I noticed Zatanna watching me from the doorway, her eyes were filled with tears waiting to run down her cheek.

Zatanna: "W-what did she do to you?"

(Y/n): "Her own twisted form of training. She made me fight off endless waves of her army just to see how much I could take. Don't worry, the cuts will heal in a few days."

Zatanna cautiously stepped closer to me and placed both her hands on my chest, running them down and gently feeling all the small cuts. Strangely enough I didn't flinch. I felt relaxed and not a single shot of pain came from Zatanna feeling my injuries.

Zatanna: "P-please be careful... I-I know you heal fast and it's not your fault that you got hurt but please promise me you'll mhmmm!"

I pulled her into a kiss and backed her up until her back was pressed against the bathroom wall. The second Zatanna was pinned against the wall she caved into my kiss and moaned into my mouth. I kept one hand on her neck and the other on her hips as she kept her arms wrapped around my neck.

Once we broke the kiss, Zatanna caught her breath and started sobbing against my neck.

(Y/n): "Hey, hey, it's alright. You brought me home. It's over. Circe will never hurt you again."

Zatanna: "Y-yeah... yeah I know."

I carried Zatanna to our bed, laying her down and pulling the covers over her. As she snuggled into bed I turned off the lights and climbed in beside her.

A few seconds later she was snuggled into my side, head resting on my chest and listening to my breathing as she drifted to sleep.

I attempted to get some sleep but my mind wouldn't let me. Even after I managed to push any thought of Circe returning away I was drawn back to the problem I abandoned in Markovia.

Artemis brought me up to speed when we called her to tell her that I'm alright and the magical crisis was over. Dick has just dumped these kids and Dr. Jace off on his "teammates". Even though it was just supposed to be a one time thing, just a quick mission. They are still his responsibility.

I'd like to take care of them but I'm most likely going to be thrown back in with my JTF strike team the second I'm cleared for combat.

Dick is going to have to step up and be a leader, no matter what he wants.

I turned my head and looked out at the Gotham City skyline. A thunderstorm has been dumping rain on the city since we got home, and it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon.

A flash of lightning filled our apartment with light for a split second and I felt Zatanna squeeze my body tighter. I slowly ran my hand over her back and she drifted back to sleep. I finally let myself drift to sleep, listening to Zatanna's breathing and the rain crashing against our window.
