Chapter 2
(A/N): Hey guys, thanks for reading. Let me know what you think so far and any questions or feedback. Thanks.
(Y/n) POV:
Robin: "Artemis."
Artemis: "Robin uhh hey."
Robin: "How random that you're in Gotham City, instead of Star City, where your uncle Green Arrow lives."
Wow Dick can really be well... a dick, at times.
Artemis: "I'm uh, here to see my cousin. She was in the state spelling bee. Here in Gotham City."
I was desperately holding back laughter. Oh I felt so bad for Artemis and I half expected Robin to let her off the hook based on our previous conversation but he clearly had other ideas.
Robin: "C-O-O-L. Did she W-I-N?"
Artemis frowned, she was clearly still on edge and wasn't finding this as funny as I was. Artemis shot me an angry glare as I let out a small laugh before stifling it and forcing myself to put on a straight face.
Artemis: "N-O."
Robin: "D-R-A-G."
(Y/n): "Ok. Let's just go to the Cave."
Robin: "Ladies first."
Artemis: "It's your town, you go."
Robin shrugged and stepped into the phone booth. He disappeared into the blinding light and then Artemis stepped in, avoiding eye contact with me the entire time.
I stepped into the phone booth after Artemis and waited as the computer read aloud my name and then the blinding light overtook me.
I opened my eyes once I arrived in the cave and was pleasantly surprised to see a massive wall of fire crashing down at me. My day was going so good until now.
Robin: "Vanguard, move NOW!"
I barely dodged a firewall that was crashing in my direction. Quickly surveying the main area of the cave I can clearly see that it is in ruins. Smoke is everywhere and I can't see our attackers.
Artemis: "What's going on!? Who are we fighting!?"
I drew my pistol and fired several shots in the direction the fireballs were coming from but it likely did absolutely nothing.
Robin: "No idea!"
(Y/n): "If we stay here we are going to die! We need to move now!"
Robin: "Head to the exit!"
Together we sprinted towards the exit on our right. Making it into the hallway heading for the exit.
As soon as we entered the hallway we were cut off by a massive wave of water crashing down towards us.
Robin: "Or not."
The water swept us away and slammed us into the far wall at the end of the hallway. We quickly collected ourselves and ran into the gym. I turn around to see a fire tornado chasing after us.
(Y/n): "ISAC ready me a seeker."
ISAC: "Confirmed... seeker mine ready for deployment."
As soon as the orange ring lit up on the seeker mine I spun around and threw it into the fiery tornado that was a short distance behind and closing fast.
The following explosion propelled the three of us into the gym and we fell to the floor. The explosion dispersed the tornado of fire and gave us a moment to catch our breath. Hopefully we could come up with a plan before another one showed up.
As we collected ourselves up off the gym floor we ran into the showers in an attempt to flee from the fire tornado which had reformed after being briefly dispersed by the explosion.
(Y/n): "ISAC broadcast a distress call on all frequencies to the justice league, SHD or anyone listening!"
ISAC: "All localized communications blocked by unknown interference."
(Y/n): "Try and override it!"
ISAC: "Override failed. Transmissions jammed, proximity coverage only."
Robin: "Robin to Team, Aqualad are you there?!"
(Y/n): "Psychic link is down as well, we're completely cut off."
Artemis: "WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO!"
Robin: "Robin to Batcave. Override RG4. Cave calling Justice League HOJ/Watchtower. B-0-1 priority red!"
Artemis: "Please tell me that did something!"
Robin: "No, all communications are down. At least the water's helping."
As we backed up into the center of the room the pipes all around us started groaning and squeaking.
(Y/n): "I really don't like the sound of that."
Right on queue all the pipes burst open. The shower floor was quickly covered in water but the water wasn't draining out the door or down through the drains. We briefly panicked as the water swiftly rose, completely filling the room in mere seconds. Robin was forced to blow a whole in the wall big enough for us to escape through and let the water drain out, finally allowing us to breathe again.
Robin: "C'mon guys get up we gotta go like now!"
As we ran from the growing sound of footsteps we arrived in the kitchen and quickly began searching for a way out.
Robin managed to get us into the ventilation system. As we crawled away and turned a corner in the vents, a blast of fire almost caught Robin.
As Artemis and I collapsed beside each other, gasping for air, I finally took in how ruined my clothes were. Even if I dried the suit out completely, it'd be all wrinkly.
(Y/n): "Another suit ruined, what a great day. How are you guys on equipment?"
Artemis: "Running low on arrows."
Robin: "Getting low but not out yet, how about you?"
(Y/n): "I only have my pistol on me and a few small seeker mines. The rest of my gear is in my room at the other side of the cave."
We continued our crawl after a short minute of rest that I would've liked to last much longer than it did.
Artemis' voice had a tone of fear which led me to believe she was starting to panic. I would be lying if I said I wasn't incredibly nervous. Being attacked by an unknown enemy while having basically nothing to defend myself with kinda does that. Robin on the other hand was as calm as ever. Most likely a result of him training with the Batman but remarkable nonetheless.
We made our way out of the vents and into the boiler room of the cave. As soon as we made it down the stairs one of our attackers jumped down from the vent we exited moments before.
(Y/n): "RUN!"
I fired several shots at the figure engulfed in flames only for it to blast a stream of fire directly towards me. Robin led us to a service tunnel. I dropped an explosive to cover our entrance into it and after Robin deactivated the cave's heat and motion trackers so we could finally take a much longer moment to catch our breath.
Robin: "Caves heat and motion trackers are now offline, they can't track us."
Artemis: "I ask again, WHO ARE THEY?!"
Robin: "Shall we find out."
Robin pulled up the security recordings showing our friends getting attacked by waves of water and fire. One by one the cameras went dark, never revealing the identity or even a glimpse of the attackers, as if they knew the cameras were there and to avoid them.
Robin: "All four are dead."
Artemis stares at Robin with a terrified look on her face. Robin quickly realized what she thought.
Robin: "The cameras! I-I meant the cameras, I'm sure the others are fine."
Artemis: "Yeah, of course they're fine, they have superpowers. They can handle anything."
(Y/n): "It's going to be alright, we'll get them out of here."
Artemis: "How can you be so sure?"
(Y/n): "Facing terrible odds comes with the job, I'm just used to being ready for a fight."
Artemis got a small smile of relief from my words but it was soon dashed as Robin ordered us to continue moving.
We dropped out into the library and proceeded to look for a secret entrance that was hidden behind a bookshelf. As ironic as it was, it's a good hiding spot for a secret entrance.
Robin: "There's a secret passage behind one of these bookcases."
Artemis: "Seriously? Cliché much?"
While we quickly walked together through the library we heard the main door handle click as it was opened. We rushed to hide behind a bookshelf and got ready to attack. I tightened the grip on my pistol and noticed that Artemis was incredibly nervous as well.
The loud thumps of someone walking towards us grew louder and louder until they were within a few feet of the bookshelf we hid behind.
???: "Robin? Artemis? Vanguard? Are you there?"
The robotic voice sounded like Red Tornado and my first thoughts were that it was Red Tornado, that he had discovered we were under attack and came to help us. But then it clicked, Tornado never called me Vanguard. I told him to just call me (Y/n) moments after I met him and he has done that since my first day. I knew this couldn't be Tornado. Robin had figured this out as well but Artemis's excitement got the better of her.
Artemis: "It's Red Tornado!"
Artemis shot herself out into the hall full of hope that quickly vanished when she realized this wasn't our friend. I cursed and threw myself out after Artemis, pushing her clear of the robot which made an attempt to grab her. While she got clear my jacket was grabbed by the robot. I quickly slipped out of it and continued running without looking back.
Robin: "Yes on the red, no on the tornado!"
Another robot appeared behind the first. The first resembled a male and controlled the water that was attacking us while the one with a feminine figure controlled the fire.
(Y/n): "Run!"
Artemis: "Who?! What are they?!"
We slipped into the secret tunnel hidden in a bookshelf and closed the door just in time to cover our escape. Together we booked it down the maze of tunnels Artemis and I followed Robin as he had the map.
Artemis: "Did you know Tornado had.... siblings?!"
Robin: "No I didn't."
Artemis grabbed Robin's arms and we stopped running.
Artemis: "What are we going to do, Tornado is one of the powerhouses of the league! How are we supposed to defeat two of them?!"
(Y/n): "An EMP, if we ca-"
Artemis: "WHERE ARE WE GOING TO GET AN EMP!! I know I don't have one in my quiver and I don't think you have one in your pocket."
(Y/n): "Calm down, we are going to be fine. If I get to my room I can get my ISAC brick, then I can charge up an EMP blast large enough to disable Tornado's siblings and every other piece of technology in the Cave."
Robin: "Ok that's our best shot, this way."
Robin began to lead us down the tunnels that would take us to the team's sleeping quarters when one of the robots spoke over the caves intercom.
Robot: "Attention Robin, Artemis and Vanguard. You have ten minutes to surrender before the lives of your teammates are extinguished."
(Y/n): "Double time let's go!"
Robin and I were somewhat unphased by this. I had been expecting the attackers to use our friends as leverage earlier if I'm completely honest. Artemis, on the other hand, was terrified by this.
We dropped down into my room from the vents. I still had boxes everywhere as I have yet to unpack and set up my room. I quickly made my way to my work bench and grabbed my bulletproof vest that had the ISAC brick attached to it. I put it on and Robin motioned for me to get to the door with him. I left all my other gear behind, it wouldn't help me against these robots.
I slid a fresh mag into my pistol and Robin opened the door.
Robin and Artemis went back into the vents to cause a distraction for me. I would need a few seconds to charge up the pulse in order for it to be strong enough to fry the robots. I'm also going to have to get close to these robots in case they have some sort of failsafe built in.
I made my way to the door of the platform the robots were on. I could hear fighting on the other side as Robin and Artemis fought the robots. I switched on the ISAC brick and began charging the pulse.
As I watched Artemis and Robin fight for survival the seconds the pulse takes to charge dragged into minutes. I know it only takes about 30 seconds to fully charge but that still seemed like an eternity when I was watching my friends struggle to stay alive.
The second pulse was fully charged the ring on my watch lit up. I rushed through the door and dove at the robots feet. Before they could react I hit the button on my watch triggering the pulse.
The two robots immediately shut down and crashed into the floor, almost crushing me.
I laid down, soaking wet on the cave floor just trying to catch my breath. I could hear the water draining out, returning to its natural levels as I sat up.
I started lightly laughing as I stood up and walked to the edge of the platform to check on Miss Martian and Aqualad.
I didn't even get to ask if she was alright before Superboy started yelling at me.
Superboy: "(Y/n)! How's M'gann?! Is she alright?!"
(Y/n): "Oh I'm great, thanks for asking. I just threw myself at two killer robots but yeah I'm good."
Nobody seemed to like my sarcasm as the hangar was dead silent as I knelt down to check on M'gann and Kaldur.
After ensuring they were both alright I stood back up, still dripping wet from the countless times I was submerged in water.
(Y/n): "She's alright, they're both alright."
I could hear Conner's sigh of relief from the platform and I'd be lying if I said it didn't cause a smile to form on my face.
*Small time skip.*
Artemis was working to cut Kid Flash and Superboy free of the substance the robots trapped them in. Miss Martian and Aqualad stood nearby, Miss Martian was still too weak to stand on her own and was using Aqualad as a crutch. Robin and I watched the motionless bodies of the two robots, wondering how they found the Cave or more accurately, who sent them?
Kid Flash: "Would you stop playing around and cut us loose already?!"
Artemis: "EMP shuts down all electronics, genius!"
(Y/n): "How do you think they got in?"
Robin: "Batman said the Cave was the old headquarters for the justice league before its location was compromised. Maybe these guys got that information...somehow."
My conversation with Robin was interrupted by the familiar sound of Red Tornado flying into the cave from the hanger entrance.
Red Tornado: "What has occurred?"
Robin: "Had a little visit from your family."
Artemis: "Your extremely nasty family."
Red Tornado: "I wasn't aware I had any relations."
Red Tornado moved closer to the disabled robots to inspect them. I turned my attention towards the team and moved to look at the laser that Artemis still couldn't get working.
(Y/n): "Alright let me see the laser, maybe ISAC can kickstart it or something."
Artemis: "Be my guest, but as I said EMP shuts down all electronics."
Artemis glared at Kid Flash as she finished the sentence. I reached out to take the laser cutter but before I could it sprung to life in Artemis's hands.
Artemis: "THE PULSE WORE OFF!"
I turned to see Red Tornado touching one of the disabled robots on the head.
(Y/n): "TORNADO GET AWAY FROM THEM!"
Red Tornado quickly spun around encircling us with tornadoes. As the team began to black out one by one due to lack of oxygen, I remembered I had a rebreather that had a little bit of air left in it. Putting that on I rushed Tornado hoping to stop his attack before we all black out. I jumped at him and attempted to stab him with my knife but he caught me mid air, knocking the knife out of my hand. Tornado ripped the rebreather out of my mouth and held me by my neck as we levitated a few feet above the cave floor.
I desperately sent several kicks into his side hoping to break his hold on my neck but it failed. Tornado's grip on my neck held firm and I blacked out.
*Small Time Skip*
???: "(Y/n), (Y/n) can you hear me."
I gasped as I awoke and felt a sharp pain in my chest. Superman knelt down beside me to help me up. My head was spinning and as my vision cleared I noticed I was in the Caves medical bay. My neck was still incredibly sore from Tornado's grip.
Superman: "The others told us what happened. Are you alright?"
(Y/n): "My neck is killing me but other than that I'm fine."
Batman: "Go get some rest with the team. We will fix the Cave and then I want a full report on everything that happened."
(Y/n): "You got it, sir."
I left to go find the team. They had gathered in the library, one of the few areas in the cave without much damage done to it. When I arrived most of the seats were taken so I crawled on top of one of the many tables in the room and lied down.
No one spoke a word. The team sat in silence, soaking in the betrayal. After a short while I fell asleep on the table completely exhausted.
*Time Skip*
3rd person POV:
The following week was a blur. The Team was sent to India but (Y/n) was forced to stay behind due to his injured neck. He regretted sitting that mission out as Conner brought a giant wolf home that he quickly named 'Wolf'. (Y/n) thought the name was absolutely hilarious but the joke was lost on Conner.
The League provided the Team with absolutely no information of their hunt for Red Tornado and every time someone pressed the subject they got the same response, "The League is searching for Red Tornado and the other androids, the Team is not to pursue this."
Zatara was the 'den mother' of the team this week and (Y/n) had spent a lot of time getting close to this league member. When (Y/n) was younger one of the only memories he has with his biological parents was going to a magic show that Zatara put on. Zatara had grown fond of the agent as well. Polite and well mannered he always assisted every member of the Justice League without question.
Dick and Kaldur fought on the training grounds with the computer marking their errors as the fight played out.
(Y/n) stood in his usual suit off to the side smiling as he and Zatara talked about everything. Captain Marvel ate chocolate and watched the fight with great interest.
M'gann and Connor walked in from the side as Wolf followed close behind.
Dick and Kaldur made their way over to (Y/n) and Zatara. Both of them carefully watching the couple and their giant wolf.
Dick: (whispering) "You know they're dating now right."
Kaldur: "I believe I knew before they did."
(Y/n): "I mean it was kinda obvious."
Zatara: (lightly laughing) "I'll leave you gentlemen to your gossip for now."
(Y/n): "Goodbye Zatara.... should we tell them."
(Y/n) gestured over to Artemis and Wally who walked into the main area from the opposite side.
Kaldur: "It is not our place."
(Y/n): "Oh but you're fine with Zatara knowing, I mean you walked right up to us and started this conversation."
Dick: "I'm sure he won't tell besides you can just ask him not to, seems like you're picking favourites in the league."
(Y/n): "Hey I help all of the league's members, it's my job."
Dick: "Sure, sure but you have taken a liking to him. Any reason in particular?"
(Y/n): "None that I'm willing to share."
Dick frowned at the agent and was about to pressure him on the subject when the zeta tube activated. Batman emerged from the teleportation device and stormed to the center of the room just in time to bail (Y/n) out of the uncomfortable conversation he was in.
Batman: "Computer, national news."
The computer displayed news coverage from GBS reporter Cat Grant in a helicopter as a massive plant creature sprouted up in the city below. All over the world in major cities, giant plant creatures were sprouting from the ground, destroying buildings and decimating cities.
The broadcast was interrupted by the 'Injustice League' who claimed responsibility for the attack after giving a small speech. (Y/n) didn't care to listen to it. He connected his earpiece to the Division network and listened to the chatter explode as agents called in new locations of plant attacks.
Dick: "Count Vertigo, Joker, Poison Ivy, Ultrahumanite, Atomic Skull, Black Adam and Wotan. Seven heavy hitters, probably behind everyone and everything we've faced."
Wally: "There's your secret society."
Artemis: "Not so secret anymore."
(Y/n): "If they've stayed hidden all this time, why reveal themselves now?"
Kaldur: "Perhaps after our mission in India they figured out we would deduce the truth and saw no point to hide any longer."
(Y/n): "It's not like we had any suspects. Only suspicions that supervillains were working together. It doesn't add up."
Wally: "Doesn't matter, let's go kick some plant creature butt.
Batman: "The Justice League will deal with the plant creatures, I have a different mission for the Team. With the plants attacking so many locations simultaneously there must be a control system. Your mission is to find the control center and destroy it."
Zatara: "You realize what you are really asking them to do..."
Batman: "They're ready."
Wally: "Huh?"
Artemis slapped Wally in the back of the head for the fight time since the mission briefing started, (Y/n) quickly caught onto that and a smile found its way to his face. The speedster flinched and lurched forward, rubbing his red hair and angrily glaring at the archer.
Wally: "Would you quit it!
Artemis: "Hello Wally, if the big guys are fighting the plants, who do you think we'll be fighting?"
Wally: "I don't know that's why I asked?!"
Artemis groaned at Wally and pointed to the holographic display of the Injustice League.
Wally: "Oh..."
(Y/n) let out a small laugh of amusement as the gravity of the situation crashed down on Wally.
(Y/n): "I don't suppose you know where they are?"
Batman: "I don't, but I'm hoping Zatara can locate them for you."
Zatara: "I can, Wotan's involvement suggests a large degree of sorcery. Robin, the holomap if you please."
Robin quickly pulled up a holographic map of the Earth and Zatara stepped forward. Zatara cast a spell that located the Injustice League in the Louisiana swamps. (Y/n) was amazed at how simple it was for Zatara to find the Injustice League. If he was to try and locate them it would take a massive team of agents and take them months to get a hint at possible locations. Zatara found it like it wasn't any trouble at all.
The team rushed out of the training area to get their gear and board the bio-ship.
Kaldur: "Five minutes. Get ready."
Almost everyone split up and went into their respective rooms to change into their gear. Superboy and Miss Martian simply went straight to the bio-ship.
(Y/n) POV:
I finished attaching my basic combat kit, grabbed a parachute and a small oxygen tank with a mask attached to the end of a small tube.
(Y/n): "ISAC broadcast these coordinates to Maxwell and tell him to get a gunship on station. I'll mark the target with smoke and IR lasers once I'm on site."
ISAC: "Confirmed."
After I used my laptop to confirmed that the coordinates were properly sent through, I raced to the hangar.
I rushed into the bio-ship at the same time as Robin and Artemis. Being the three without superpowers we took a little longer to get ready then everyone else.
Robin: "We're all ready."
Aqualad: "Then let's get going."
We flew through the sky on our way to Louisiana. The team sat in silence all thinking about the fight ahead. The silence spoke volumes. Everyone knows that this will be our hardest fight yet. The supervillains we're about to face are threats that the Justice League usually coordinates against. The only thing we have going for us is the element of surprise, and maybe we can double down on that.
(Y/n): "Alright I have a plan."
Kid Flash: "Since when does he get to make the plans, I never get to make them."
Artemis: "Maybe if you think a little bit, you'll get an idea worth listening too."
Kid Flash: "Hey I always thi-"
Aqualad: "(Y/n), what's your plan?"
(Y/n): "Well I'm pretty much useless in a straight up fight against these guys. I have a MK18 rifle and shooting at someone like Black Adam will get me killed. So get me to 30,000 feet, I'll parachute in and take out the antenna they are using to control the plants while you guys hold their attention outside the main compound. They won't see it coming."
The team sat in silence taking in my plan.
(Y/n): "Hey I have good ideas once in a while."
I lightly laughed at my own joke in an attempt to lift everyone's spirits ahead of the battle but the Team remained dead silent, the danger I would be jumping into alone was probably dawning on them. Robin and Artemis looked like they wanted to protest my idea but couldn't come up with anything better.
Aqualad: "Okay, we will hold the attention of the Injustice League while you disable the antenna."
Robin: "They will most likely be expecting a stealth incursion, if we go in loud it will raise suspicion. We should attempt to sneak in as well."
Aqualad: "Agreed."
(Y/n): "I'm gearing up, let me know when we reach the drop zone."
I went to the cargo hold of the bio-ship and began attaching the oxygen tank to my vest. After a brief moment of silence where I stood just thinking about all the ways this could go terribly wrong, Artemis and Kid Flash walked into the cargo bay. Both had a nervous look and were clearly worrying about my safety. To be completely honest, so was I, but I'd never admit that.
Kid Flash: "You ready? We're almost there."
(Y/n): "Ya I'm good, spot check the parachute real quick would ya?"
Kid Flash: "Ya sure."
As Kid Flash was checking my parachute on my back and the reserve on my chest I couldn't help but notice Artemis, she looked like she wanted to say something and took a few moments to build up the courage to speak.
Artemis: "Nervous?"
(Y/n): "Are you kidding? I've got the easy job, I'm worried about you guys."
Kid Flash: "We will be fine, just don't take too long. The sooner the antenna is offline the sooner the league comes to bail us out."
(Y/n): "You got it. Don't break your arm reaching for a souvenir."
Artemis: "I'll watch out for him, you don't have to worry."
Artemis put her hand on Kid Flash's shoulder as I put the mask on and opened the oxygen tank.
Artemis: "M'gann we are ready, open the hatch."
The back hatch opened up. I stepped back onto the edge before giving a quick two finger salute to Artemis and Kid Flash before I stepped out the back and into the cold air of the night.
The entire drop took just over two minutes before I needed to pull my parachute. The air got warmer the closer I got to the ground, the massive complex looked like a giant greenhouse. There's a giant plant serving as the antenna shooting up from the center of the building.
I was about to land on the roof of the Injustice League's facility when I saw several of the Injustice Leagues members race off into the swamp. Miss Martian had established a telepathic link with the team and I but the connection was severed. I imagine they are captured or she was knocked unconscious I don't really know but regardless I need to be fast.
I crashed into the roof and immediately slipped out of my parachute. I unhooked the oxygen tank and tossed it with the parachute. I only have a few minutes to get this done, I don't know how long the team can hold out against the Injustice League.
(Y/n): "ISAC patch me into the gunship's radio channel."
ISAC: "Connection established, ready to transmit."
(Y/n): "This is Vanguard to gunship do you copy?"
Pilot: "Roger Vanguard we hear you."
(Y/n): "Target building will be marked with red smoke and an IR flare. Reduce it to rubble."
Pilot: "Copy, we're on station in three."
(Y/n): "I'll radio the second I'm clear. If we lose radio contact, look for an orange flare to signal the all clear."
Pilot: "Copy that, good luck agent."
I began placing smoke grenades all around the base of the plant antenna. Once I had completed the circle I spotted the team being transported in a cage created by Wotan.
(Y/n): "Great, looks like I don't have any time left."
I made my way down off the roof of the facility and hid in the swamp. Soon the team would be flying right overtop of me and I would have a chance to free them.
I unhooked a small grenade launcher from my belt. It folded up nice and small so it didn't take up too much room. It wasn't rotary and needed to be reloaded after every shot, hopefully I'll only need one shot.
Trudging through the maze of trees and knee high water isn't exactly helping me get in a good position to attack. I'll have to make due with the main path to the facility, the gunship will be in range any second and I can't let the team be taken inside. I can see the glowing magic of Wotan slowly getting closer to me, they'll be in range any second now.
I took aim at Wotan and fired. The grenade wouldn't kill him, he was far too powerful for that. I only need it to break his concentration.
The following explosion sent Wotan crashing to the ground. The team fell out and landed in the swamp all around me.
I pulled out the flare gun and fired the flare into the air. The orange light illuminated everything as the flare burned in the night sky.
Vertigo: "What? Who is this?"
Before anyone could answer the sound of 105 rounds hitting the massive plant rung out. The explosions sent the antenna crashing down onto the Injustice League's building.
Poison Ivy: "My baby!"
I wasted no time reloading the grenade launcher and aimed it at Vertigo.
Vertigo: "Who... Who are you?!"
(Y/n): "I'm the guy who just crippled your entire operation."
Vertigo: "You-you will pay for this....Adam!"
Black Adam landed in front of Vertigo. Crushing the ground and leaving a small crater and sending a small cloud of dust and dirt up into the air.
I really don't know what to call Black Adam, I've read his file and seen him go toe to toe with Superman on television, the word god is really all I can use to describe him. He's a few feet taller than me and looks like he weighs a lot more than me. The god started menacingly walking towards me and in the face of a brutal death the only thing I could muster was a sarcastic comment.
(Y/n): "Oh, great."
I fired the grenade at Adam and attempted to jump out of the way but the impact didn't phase him at all. He flew up to me and with a swift backhand sent me flying into the bushes of the swamp.
I rolled onto my stomach and attempted to push myself up despite the fact that my body was aching like crazy.
When I finally picked myself up and climbed out of the bushes I saw Robin fighting the Joker. The clown was swinging a large knife around like a maniac but his moves were exaggerated and easily predicted, allowing Robin to dodge with little effort.
I rushed towards him and threw my shoulder into the Joker who hadn't seen me charging at him until the last moment. I took out a pair of handcuffs and attempted to put them on the clown prince of crime but a blast from Wotan sent Robin and I straight to the ground as we reeled in pain.
The agonizing pain swept through our bodies as the Injustice League triumphantly stood over us. I wanted to reach for my gun or an explosive but I couldn't move despite how hard I tried.
The blast and pain suddenly stopped as a blinding yellowish golden light illuminated the entire swamp.
Dr. Fate: "Wotan, you are mine."
I'd never seen Dr. Fate before, Wally told me of their little adventure in the Lord of Order's tower but he glossed over a lot of the details.
Dr. Fate instantly attacked Wotan and just like that the battle resumed. The Joker pulled out an even bigger knife and stepped closer to Robin who was still recovering on the ground.
Joker: "Wonderboy, you are mine."
The Joker started laughing as he swung repeatedly at Robin with knives in both his hands. The knee high water we are fighting in isn't doing Robin any favours and Joker soon managed to cut a small gash across Robin's chest.
As I pushed myself back to my feet I grabbed my rifle. Thanks to the sling keeping it close to me I didn't have to feel around in the water to find it.
I took aim at Joker and fired one bullet the moment I had a clear shot knocking one of his knives straight out of his hand.
(Y/n): "Drop the knife clown. It's over."
Joker: "Oh I don't thin-"
Batman: "He's right."
Batman threw a batarang disarming Joker. The Entire Justice League arrived. Surrounding the Injustice League and allowing me to let out a massive sigh of relief.
The members of the Injustice League threw their hands up in defeat as the Team arrived beside Robin and I.
Vertigo: "There will be another day."
Joker was furious, the clown raised his hands like he was controlling a puppet and started laughing. His laughter sent chills down my spine as everyone got ready to attack the insane clown.
Joker: "Another day! Another day! There won't be another day for an-!"
I shot Joker with a taser and he collapsed to the ground as the electricity ran through his body. I'd be lying if I said the sight of Joker rolling in pain on the muddy ground didn't bring a smile to my face.
(Y/n): "Gotcha."
Robin smiled at me as the League began to deal with the defeated Injustice League. As we made our way to Dr. Fate's side, Wally snapped. He angrily glared at M'gann and started yelling.
Kid Flash: "What were you thinking?! How could you let him put on the helmet? Fate will never let him go, Kaldur will be trapped in that helmet forever."
A brief moment of silence washed over everyone as we stared at Dr.Fate. I couldn't help but notice that he was staring directly at me. I wasn't the only one to notice this, both Batman and Zatara took note but refrained from saying anything. Fate slowly levitated down to the ground and without saying a word he took off the helmet, freeing Aqualad.
Kid Flash: "What? Nabu let you go?!"
Aqualad: "He almost did not. Your friend Kent Nelson was most helpful. He says hello."
Batman: "We're done here. The supervillain secret society has been neutralized. As for your performance....it was satisfactory."
Robin (through telepathic link): "That's as close as he gets to saying great job."
I turned to face the Team and we all smiled at one another.
I noticed Wally's arm had made a makeshift sling out of a torn piece of fabric and tried to hold back my laughter.
(Y/n): "Ha ha, I told you not to break your arm getting a souvenir."
Kid Flash: "You think this is funny? Well you can take the first shift helping me do everything."
I continued laughing as I stepped closer to Wally and gently placed my hand on his shoulder, careful not to hurt his arm more than it already was.
(Y/n): "Fat chance, you still have one arm."
I leaned in and whispered to him the second everyone was out of earshot, well everyone but Superboy but I trust he'll keep this quiet.
(Y/n): "Plus you can ask Artemis, she'll be happy to help."
Kid Flash: "What?!"
(Y/n): "Oh don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about."
Superboy looked back at me and I smiled before nodding to him. Wally and I walked up to the rest of the Team as Superman stepped up to congratulate the group.
Superman: "Let's get you guys home, you've earned some rest."
