Chapter 61

A/N: The people have spoken, I will do longer chapter's now! Oh and Bluepulse has been added to the update roster, I mean who doesn't like Bart and Jaime???

They were sitting in class, why wouldn't they be? It was a monday and everyone hated monday's. Their teacher was a little annoyed that they were all falling asleep where they sat. His chin rested in the palm of his hand as he fought to keep his eyes open. He spent all of last night working on a project that he had to present fourth period. His eyes darted across the classroom. Jaime looked tired as well.

There was a sudden loud noise as they all jumped in their seats. Their teacher had just dropped a pile of textbooks on the floor. The sound of it hitting the tile floor reverberated off of the classroom walls. "Wake up!" their teacher Mr. Andrews yelled. Both classes dragged by until it was lunch. It seemed as if the clock had been moving slower than the rest of the world.

Just as the auburn haired teen closed his locker someone grabbed him from behind. Their arms wrapping around his waist pulling him back into the person. "Good morning Bart" they said as Bart giggled in response. He turned around in their arms and looked up at them. "Jaime we're in school" he whined as the dark haired teen smiled down at him.

His heart was hammering in his chest and his face was a brilliant shade of red. A couple of the girls that walked past giggled. Other's just rolled their eyes in response. "Okay you two the cafeteria is waiting" a voice said as Bart craned his neck to look behind Jaime. Cassie stood there with a hand on her hip and a smile on her face. The three of them walked into the cafeteria and took their seat at their table.

Garfield and Raven were already there waiting for them. It looked like Garfield had done something wrong yet again. "What did you do now?" Bart asked taking a seat. The blonde haired boy ran his hands down his face frustratingly. "All I did was ask her about her family, why is that so bad?" he said as they all groaned in response. Sometimes Garfield could be pretty thick headed.

Although he did mean well he just never got what he wanted to say across properly. Raven sat there with her arms crossed. "Hey Raven I need some help in the washroom can you come with me?" Cassie asked as the girl gave a small nod and stood up. Once the two girls left Jaime spoke up. "Just take a hint, family is a sore subject for all of us" he said as the teen nodded.

Bart turned to face his boyfriend, a smile plastered to his face. He wasn't feeling as tired now. After eating he always felt somewhat energized. "Hey so do you want to come work on that project after school?" Jaime asked raising an eyebrow at him. The boy next to him cocked his head to the side out of confusion. "What project?" he asked.

A hand suddenly landed on both of their shoulders. Cassie stood between them with a playful smile on her face. "Bart that's code for 'come over so we can hang', just to let you know" she said with a wink before patting both of their shoulders. She walked back to the other side and took a seat across from them. Bart couldn't help but blush as he pressed his face into Jaime's shoulder.

"By the way did you get the forms for the trip to Gotham?" Cassie asked while taking a bite from her sandwich.

"No" they all said simultaneously.

"Well go get them from your homeroom teacher before they're all gone" she said with a grin as she folded her form and put it in her school bag.

Megan and Peggy had become quick friends. The girl was like her but a year younger with darker hair. She also had a vintage style and Megan absolutely adored it. Today she was invited over to her dorm room. The halls were quiet, most people were in classes at the moment. Her next class wasn't for another hour or two. She stood in front of the door and gently knocked on it. "Peggy I'm here" she said before the door opened.

The dark haired young woman greeted her with a smile. Music was playing in the background. It sounded like it was from the forties. Slipping her shoes off she trailed through the dorm. Peggy had the dorm all to herself. "Is that a record player?" Megan asked, her eyes immediately drawn to the source of the music. Peggy nodded with a small smile. The red head dashed over and kneeled down in front of it.

She watched the record spin around in circles, it was entrancing. The music felt oddly relaxing. Its tune flowing through the room like water through a tap. "I have a whole bunch of old records from my nana" she said as Megan nodded, her eyes still glued to the record player. These were becoming quite hard to come by. Most people used their phones nowadays for sources of music.

Peggy's whole entire dorm gave off a really vintage vibe and she loved it. "Want anything to drink?" Peggy asked as Megan nodded snapping out of her daze. The two of them ended up sitting on the sofa. Both of them holding glass mugs of hot chocolate. They were chatting away about books, food, life in general. It felt quite refreshing to talk about all of this.

She raised the mug to her lips and took a sip from it. The small marshmallows floating inside tickled her lips as they brushed against them. "What song is this?" Megan asked curiously as she looked over at the record player. Peggy shrugged and placed her mug on the coffee table. The red head watched her new friend get up and walk over to the record player.

She picked up the record sleeve and held it out. Peggy looked back over to her friend before turning the sleeve so Megan could see. "A String of Pearls by Glenn Miller. A classic really, my nana's favourite" Peggy said with a smile now gracing her lips. It was almost like she was reliving a memory, Megan could tell with the way she saw her smile. Taking one last sip she placed her mug on the side table next to her.

The record sleeve fell to the floor when Megan grabbed both of her hands. "Come on dance, we can do the jitterbug or the rumba" Megan said as the girl sighed and finally gave into the songs peculiar tune. Time seemed to slow as they both danced around. They felt like they had been taken back to the forties. What a wonderful feeling it was to not care and just have fun.

The only thing to be heard from her dorm room was the vintage tune of a classic song and the sound of sweet laughter.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The day was new but that didn't mean it was better. She had class in an hour, luckily Wally and her were in the same class. After climbing out of bed she walked into the washroom. Leaning down and twisting the handle on the bathtub. The water came pouring out, falling into the porcelain white tub underneath. After putting the plug in she turned around and walked to the cabinet.
Her eyes scanned over the different soaps she could pour into the water. Eventually she narrowed it down to the cherry blossom scented one. It was early, Wally was probably still asleep. The light from the sun outside screamed into the washroom. A sigh escaped her lips as she lowered herself into the bubble filled tub. The hot water made her cold skin crawl with goosebumps.
There were footsteps that creaked through the apartment. With her eyes closed she leaned her head back on the edge of the tub. The only thing she could hear was the satisfying crinkling sound of the bubbles. Her grey eyes snapped open when the sink turned on. It wasn't a surprise to see her boyfriend standing at the sink splashing water onto his face. "G'morning" he mumbled now turning to face her.
He leaned back against the sink and eyed her. It was fairly normal for the both of them to walk in on each other in the washroom. He walked over and sat on the stool next to the tub. After being seated he reached down and grabbed the book off of the floor. Sometimes when Artemis was waiting for the bathtub to fill she would read. She rolled over in the tub and rested her head against the edge.
The feeling of the cool porcelain against her warm skin sent shivers through her body. The red head opened the book and began to read aloud. "But I don't want to go amoung mad people, said Alice. Oh but you can't help that, said the cat. We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad" Wally read as her eyes flickered up to his face.
He was getting quite scruffy, he needed a shave. Wally was reading her favourite book. She always had a copy of Alice in Wonderland on her. The story held such sentimental value to her as well as her sister. It got her through harsh times when she was a child. If asked to she could recite the entire story off by heart. "How do you know I'm mad? Asked Alice. Y-" he was cut off.
"-you must be, said the cat. Or you wouldn't have come" she finished for him.
They sat there like that for another twenty minutes. Her lounging in the tub while he read a peculiar story to her. They were nearing the end of the chapter when he realized the time. "Shit we're going to be late" he said hopping off of the stool. The young woman practically jumped out of the bathtub. The two of them stared at each other for a moment. "You get me clothes and I'll dry off" she said as he nodded.
"You dry off while I'll get you clothes" he said back before running out of the washroom.
The two of them were scrambling around the apartment to collect their stuff. Brucely couldn't help but jump for joy. The dog didn't know why his owners were being so energetic. "Babe come on" Wally said as he opened the front door. She stumbled over and hopped when attempting to put her boot on. "Okay let's go" she said as he grabbed her hand leading her out the doorway.
They were going to be late, its not like any of them could run as fast as the speed of light. Although they did both wish they could. Getting around would be so much easier. They barely made it into the lecture hall on time. They took their seats at the top and sunk into their chairs. "Man that was close" Wally said trying to catch his breath. Artemis let out a sarcastic laugh as she took out her notebook and pencil.
"Even if you could run at the speed of light you would still be late" she said as he rolled his eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The girl was practically jumping for joy when she was told that her mother had the day off. Of course she would have to go to work later that night for her other job but at least she had the day off. "Where are we going?" the young girl asked while jumping up and down. Her mother drearily walked through the small apartment and over to the kitchen. Some of the appliances barely functioned but they made do with what they had.

A yawn escaped the woman's lips as she stretched her arms out. Since her mother was off today she didn't have to go to school. This was such a rare occasion to be able to spend time with her. Melody followed her mother around the apartment until they got to the couch. "Sit. Let mommy do your hair" Harley said as Melody smiled and nodded as she sat on the floor in front of her. "It's rainin' sweetie, how about we stay in and relax. We can do each other's hair and have fun!" Harley announced as the girl smiled and nodded.

It didn't matter what the two of them did. Melody cared more about hanging out with her mother. "Did you go to College like Mar'i and Damian's parent's?" Melody asked curiously. Her two friend's had such wondeful lives. Of course she couldn't complain because she at least had a roof over her head and food on the table. "No sweetie, your motha' was young and stupid. Your fatha' manipulated me and made me do such horrible things" Harley said as she trailed off.

That's when a memory flashed in her head. It was the one time she woke up in a prison cell. She couldn't remember how she got there or even what she did to deserve to be put in there. Those few days of her life were horrible. Before now her life was a mess and she hated it. She still remembered feeling so lost.

The look of confusion on her face when she asked the guard why she was there. Melody snapped her out of her dark thoughts. "Can Ivy come over and have fun with us?" Melody asked batting her bright green eyes up at her mother. By now her hair was in two neat braids. Her mother still looked a little dazed. Melody had seen that look on her face before. It happened whenever she recalled something dark from her past.

"Yeah sure sweetie" she said as she stood up and walked across the room.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The time it took to figure out what was wrong with her was too long. Kaldur had finally convinced her to go see a doctor. It was quite unnerving just sitting there in the room. The doctor had left quite some time ago. She sat on the examination table, legs hanging off the edge as she twidled her fingers. Kaldur didn't know she was here right now.
She told him she was headed out to meet a few friends. When the door opened and the doctor walked in she jumped to her feet. The woman had a smile on her face as she looked at the results. "Congratulations on the pregnancy, now are you a new mother or-" the doctor stopped speaking when she saw the look on her face.
Roquette took a seat back down on the examination table. She swallowed the lump in her throat and stared down at her hands. "This can't be happening, I can't be, not right now" she whispered combing her fingers through her dark hair. Roquette didn't know what to do. She was still in shock upon hearing that. How did she not figure that out herself? Maybe it was the denial. In the back of her head she wouldn't believe that she truly was.
But now upon hearing the news, the fact that this was the truth, she was scared. What would Kaldur say about this? What if he didn't want the child? There were so many scenarios going through her mind at once. The doctor placed a comforting hand on her shoulder as Roquette looked up. "Its not too early to go to an abortion cli-" the doctor began to say.
"No!" Roquette shouted as she jumped to her feet.
"This is my baby and I'll deal with it myself" she finished before racing out of the room.
All she needed was air, all she wanted was air. The whole world seemed to be working against her. As soon as she ran outside she took a deep breath. She backed up against the wall, her hands braced on her knees as she stared down at the pavement. People passed by not even sparing her a glance. Everyone in this city had their own problems to worry about. "What am I going to tell Kal?" she whispered to herself before sucking in another breath.
After a minute or two she straightened herself out and reached for her cellphone. The way she dialed the number was so clumsy. "Hello?" she heard her friend's voice.
"Megan I need your help" her voice broke as she tried to choke back a sob.
"Where are you?" Megan asked in a worried tone.
"In front of the doctor's office on seventh street" she said, her voice trembling.
"Stay where you are I'll be there soon"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another nightmare scared her awake. Her fingers curled into the fabric of her shirt as she frantically looked around. It took a minute to realize where she was. Even after everything that has happened John still affected her. The nightmares she had were absolutely horrible. Looking to her left she saw that the bed beside her was empty. The sun outside had barely risen over the tops of the buildings.

The alarm clock on the bedside table read that it was barely past six-thirty. Her heart was still racing and she was still trying to get rid of all of these new horrible thoughts. "Dick?" she called out, her voice reverberating off of the bedroom walls. The door to the washroom opened as he poked his head out.

(I know its Misha but he's adorable)

At first he was bewildered as to why she was awake. But the terrified look on her face said it all. He was in the middle of getting ready for work at the moment. In fact he had just stepped out of the shower ten minutes before. Luckily when he opened the door he had pants on. "Zee is everything all right?" he asked as she nodded slowly. It was a relief to know that he was there.

Zatanna didn't want to be near John ever again, she didn't even want to hear that man's name. He did horrendous thing's to her, beat her, shot her, and left her for dead next to a river. She owed her life to Harley and her daughter for finding her and helping her. If it weren't for them she wouldn't be here. Slowly she got out of the bed, tears burning in her eyes as she faced him.

She reached up, sleeves pulled over her hands as she wiped at her eyes. Dick walked over before engulfing her in a hug.

All she wanted to do was cry, crying helped the pain lessen. It hurt so bad some day's. Dick sometimes forgot that she was indeed broken. Zatanna was as broken as they came. But then again so was he. A couple of damaged, fragmented souls could always stitch each other back together. These two were so broken that some of the missing pieces have long disappeared.

That was okay, at least they had each other. They had Mar'i, their friend's, family. Dick knew how she was feeling. After all he felt as bad as she did once before. It was after his parent's died and after he lost her. "I won't let him hurt you, not again not ever" he whispered as she nodded into his shoulder. Zatanna could hold onto him forever if he allowed it. "I love you" he whispered before pulling away slightly and kissing her softly.

It wasn't long until she fell back asleep in his arms. Dick was worried sick for her. The way she would wake up so scared for her life terrified him. He didn't know what happened when John had kidnapped her, maybe he never would. Zatanna was gently placed back in bed as he pulled the covers over her sleeping form. Then he leaned down and pressed a fleeting kiss to the side of her head. "Everything is going to be alright Zee I promise" he whispered against her skin before reluctantly going back to getting ready for work.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why did everyone expect so much from him? Tim was tired of everyone always relying on him to get something done. Whenever he had projects to do his partner's never helped. Bruce always had him doing stupid tasks as well. The teen hardly had any time to himself anymore. At the moment he was still swamped with homework. He hadn't even had a wink of sleep yet.
The whole entire night he had been doing homework. He believed that all of his teacher's enjoyed watching him suffer. Any moment now he would probably pass out from sleep deprivation. He was currently running on two hours sleep for the past three days. Another answer was written down onto the page. The entire room was pitch black, he had the curtains closed and all of the lights off.
All of the light's were off with the exception of his table lamp. Tim fought to keep his eyes open. He sure wished Cassie was here right now. She would help him with his homework undoubtedly. Within a second his eyes suddenly fell closed as his head hit the table. Now he was definitely lights out.
The homework he was working on was geography. The entire desk was covered in different kinds of maps. Anyone who would see him now would probably laugh. A couple hours later the ringing from his cellphone woke him up. The teen was so shocked from the sudden noise that the chair teetered over and he ended up on the cold hard floor.
He scrambled to his feet while almost slipping on the paper that had now fallen to the floor. His eyes were wide as he felt around the table before grabbing his cellphone. "Hello?" he said in a groggy voice. The teens heart was still beating through his chest. The quick paced rhythm being like horse's running a chariot race. "Good morning Timothy Drake this is your wonderful girlfriend calling" he heard her bubbly voice over the phone.
A yawn escaped his lips as he walked over to the window to draw the curtains. The view was stunning but the light from outside nearly blinded him. Tim walked over and took a seat on his bed as he stared out of the window in front of him. "So, how are you?" she asked, he could already tell that something was wrong. Cassie was always so happy but he knew what it sounded like when she tried to fake it.
One of her faults was always trying to make people happy even if she wasn't. He knew how nasty the girl's could be towards her. "Cass what's wrong?" he asked, his eyes glazing over with concern. Long distance relationships were always meant to be difficult. Tim longed for the next time he got to feel her lips on his and to hold her tight. "I'm fine I just miss you" she said, her voice low as she spoke.
Just hearing her voice so quiet and so sad made him frown. "I'm coming to Gotham soon, as a field trip though" she said to try and lighten the mood. Even with how tired he currently was he still jumped up upon hearing that. If she was coming to Gotham then that meant he got to see her. "When?" he asked, a grin now stuck to his face.
"Next month" she said, he could hear the smile in her voice.
"Well then next month I'm going to love you like the world was ending" he said, joy was practically radiating off of him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The both of them were surprised to see their relationship lasting so long. Wendy thought that they just had a fling and that was going to be it. But she was wrong, being wrong was a good thing sometimes. She enjoyed his company just as much as he enjoyed hers. It was never awkward between them and there was always laughter. Most of the time it was her cracking the jokes.

Conner had fun telling stories about life on the farm and what happened during high school. Wendy would tell him stories of her life in the big city. They came from two different environments yet they worked so well together. Their relationship wasn't perfect, what good relationship ever was? The two of them were sitting in her apartment. They had just gotten back from bowling, Wendy won both games.

The two were curled up by the television. Wendy was working on some homework on her tablet while he watched a movie. It was a comfortable silence. His arm was wrapped around her making sure that she was near. Wendy couldn't help but lean into him, head resting against his shoulder now. The glow of the tablet lit up her face as she swiped her finger across the screen.

Conner looked down at her when he felt her shift around. A soft smile was framing his face as he looked at Wendy. His eyes were then drawn back to the television with the same smile still playing against his lips.

A part of his heart and mind was occupied by Megan still. Conner did enjoy Wendy's company, she was a nice girl. But him and Megan were together for years. Sometimes he couldn't help it if his mind drifted back to her. "Enjoying your movie?" she asked glancing up at him for a quick moment before returning her gaze to her work. "Well it's not stupid" he said as she chuckled.

"Of course it isn't" she said trying to stop the light laughter from escaping her lips.

Sometimes Conner was just, well Conner.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sometimes before her father would have to go to work he would drop her off at Damian's house. She was surprised by how early everyone in the manor was awake. Stephanie, the blonde one, loved having Mar'i around. "You have such pretty dark hair, let's go braid it" Stephanie said all excited as the young girl was dragged over to her bed.
Damian was nowhere to be found, perhaps he was still asleep. The girl wouldn't be surprised if he was. It was awfully early in the morning. Not to mention that today was a P.A day which meant school was not in session. "Is Damian still asleep?" she asked watching Stephanie dig through her vanity drawer for her brushes. "The brat is down in the gym, he's been there since four-thirty. He's pissed over god knows what again" she said with a roll of her eyes.
The boy wasn't exactly the most likeable person in the world. Mar'i frowned and stood up leaving the room. Stephanie didn't even notice she left until she turned back around only to see the girl now gone. The manor was large and confusing to navigate around. It took awhile but she finally came upon the gym. The door was heavy as she pulled it open and walked inside.
She found him by the punching bag, the poor piece of equipment has definitely seen better day's. Her eyes travelled across the room until she saw the blood on his hands. With her eyebrows furrowing upon the sight she frowned. "Damian you're hurting yourself" she said stepping close and grabbing his hands. The girl had complete disregard for his personal space.
Her hands were so soft compared to his. However she noticed that Damian didn't seem to have a care in the world. Her thumb brushed over his knuckles smearing the blood. "You disrupted my excersize routine" he said duly as she frowned, her peculiar eyes flickering to meet his gaze. The girl couldn't fathom why he would want to hurt himself like this.
Without words she guided him out of the room by simply pulling him along with her. "You are quite destructive" she said quietly as she let go of his hands. She pulled a stool over and climbed on top to grab the first aid kit on top of the refrigerator. He clicked his tongue in annoyance, "Why not go back to playing a perfect game of house with fat girl?" he asked as she crouched down and sat on the stool.
She reached forward and took his hand bringing it towards her. The boy fidgeted when she began to wipe the blood away with antiseptic. "I should become a doctor" she said with a soft smile, her gaze still focused on his hand. Damian raised an eyebrow at her future job decision. "Why a doctor? They work horrid hours and deal with unreasonable people, some that don't even deserve to be saved" he commented as she looked up at him.
"Damian I am always covering you in band aids because you can't seem to stay out of trouble" she said before flicking him in the forehead.
"What was that for?" he asked narrowing his cold green eyes at her.
"You are one of my only friend's Damian and I don't want you getting hurt" she said as she wrapped the white bandages around his hands.
After that she put everything back and pushed the stool back to where it originally was. The girl hummed to herself as she walked out of the room and towards the grand staircase. "Mar'i would you want to learn some moves? Self defense of course because you clearly aren't capable of taking care of yourself when I'm not there" Damian said from behind her.
As she turned around she narrowed her green eyes at him. "Do not think for a second I am not capable of defending myself. I don't believe in violence, people can be cruel but I do not wish to be as cruel as they are" she said as he rolled his eyes.
"Do you want to or not?" he snapped at her.
"Yes please" she said with a smile as she hopped down the stairs and ran after him.
A/N: Sorry updates are taking so long but its worth it since I'm updating everyone in one chapter. This is already over 5000 words so I'll leave it as it is.
