Chapter 60
A/N: I forgot who asked so please don't kill me if it was you but they wanted to know how Tim and Cassie were doing so I'll do an update on that. I think I'll make this a long chapter, I'm at home sick after all so what better do I have to do? Would you all want really long chapter's like this?
Ever sinced they moved back to Gotham he was lonely. Most of his friends were back in Happy Harbour. He only saw Jaime and Bart for a week but they too had to go back. Tim missed Cassie especially. They spoke on the phone or on Skype or facetime almost all of the time. The view from his bedroom was spectacular. After all in order to get to Wayne Manor you had to drive to a small island.
The place was rather secluded. Walking from the manor to Gotham was always relaxing. The road was lined with trees and beach. It was quite beautiful. Today was one of those days. He had his headphones in and was talking to Cassie over facetime. "How's the ocean?" she asked in a teasing voice. Gotham's water's weren't exactly the nicest. After all it was coming straight from the Atlantic ocean.
Not to mention all of the pollution mixed into the water. In the summertime the beaches were bare. No one would go there, it was disgusting. "The view is nice but the water, not so much" he said flipping the camera and doing a pan. Outside was bitter cold still, he was happy he was inside. "Oh wow, way to show off" she said as he let out a light laugh. Walking over he sat on his bed and fell back.
Body sinking into the mattress. The two of them began to get silly. Cassie began cracking jokes faster than he could speak. To everyone else who didn't know he was on the phone he would sound insane. The amount of laughter coming from him was unnatural. "How's school?" Cassie asked in a serious tone. She was still wiping the tears from her eyes from laughing so hard. It felt good to laugh.
During times like these it was always good to laugh. Tim had to think for a moment. School wasn't horrible, most people treated him great. The teen wasn't mean to anyone and had friends in almost every group. He was smart, charismatic, not to mention good looking. There were always girls flirting with him. No one believed him when he said he had a girlfriend. "I mean it's not bad, a little lonely without you" he said as she frowned.
"I know how you feel. The girls still call me Man Hands" she said as he let out an annoyed sigh.
School wasn't as easy for her as it was for him. Her older sister; Diana wasn't exactly a billionaire like Tim's father was. "I'm sorry I can't do anything about that" he said, eyes now focused on the blankets below him. He began to pick at the comforter with his other hand. There was yelling in the background on her end. He looked up and watched her sit up.
Cassie must've muted it because all he could see were her lips moving. She looked back, blonde locks flowing down her back. Tim loved her hair, it was as bright as the sunshine. Soon she faced him in the camera once again. "Sorry Tim I have to go for dinner, I'll call you tomorrow" she said as he smiled and nodded.
"Don't die okay?" he said with a chuckle.
"Okay" she breathed out with a smile on her face.
The facetime ended as he turned off his phone. Tossing it to the side as the device landed near his pillows. There was a knock at the door. It opened as Alfred stepped inside. "Girl troubles?" a voice asked with a light laugh. He sat up and looked behind him to see Stephanie. "You have no idea" he said as she shook her head with a small smile.
"Anyways Alf says its time for dinner so come on before Damian sabotages your plate" she said as he smiled and nodded.

Lately she had been ill. Her husband had been urging her to go to the doctors but she refused. There was no time to be waiting in the doctor's office for hours. She was convinced that it was just a bug. Luckily her professors uploaded all of the presentations to the class sharing website. She looked over all of the presentations and did her homework at home.
Some of her friends would even record some of the sessions for her and e-mail the videos to her later. They were quite kind to her and she loved it. Whenever she would puke it would be in the morning. Kaldur was always at her side. He walked in the front door, it was late. She gave him a list and he ran out to get a few things. "Roquette I'm home" he said walking into the kitchen.
He set the grocery bags down onto the counter. In the background he could hear the television on in the living room. Slipping his jacket off he hung it on the chair. When he walked into the living room he saw her asleep on the couch. Papers and her laptop lay on top of the coffee table. A small smile graced his lips as he walked over. Sitting on the edge of the couch he brushed her bangs from her eyes.
Upon feeling his touch her eyes opened. It took a moment for everything to clear. A yawn escaped her lips as she looked up at him. "Hey Kal" she said rolling over to lay on her back.
"Would you like dinner?" he asked as she pushed herself up onto her elbows.
"Some pasta would be lovely" she said as he nodded and kissed her forehead.
She rested on the couch for another ten minutes. Her eyes trained on the wall, she was in a trance. It took a moment for her to remember what she was doing. She dragged her feet across the floor and into the kitchen. Humming to herself she stood beside him and leaned back against the counter. The pasta he was making made her mouth water. "Your hair is getting dark again" she said looking at the top of his head.
Kaldur wasn't a natural blonde. He told her an elaborate story when they started dating as to why he dyed it blonde. He hummed in response to that. "I like it dark, keep it for awhile. Its better than the blonde" she said as he looked over at her.
"I thought the Queen liked her King blonde" he said amused.
"As Queen I rule that you keep your natural hair colour for awhile" she said with a grin.
"Whatever the Queen wants the Queen gets" he said before leaning over and kissing her.
"You're damn right" she mumbled against his lips.

Class was boring, when wasn't it? Especially the lectures, these professors couldn't make anything exciting. He sat back in his chair spinning a pencil between his fingers. A couple of people who had their laptops out weren't even taking notes. They were either watching movies or playing video games. His cellphone suddenly buzzed in his pocket. Sliding it out he looked down at the text.
Artemis was actually outside of her class. It was writer's class, they were working on a newspaper article. The one who received the highest grade would get their article published in the Gotham Gazette. She hoped to work there once she graduated. Unfortunately she didn't have a topic picked yet. Everyone else had one already except her. The air was still bitter cold and sent shivers down her spine every time the wind blew.
She had just sent Wally a text saying that she finished class. He wouldn't be out for another hour so she might as well head back to the apartment. After that she slid her phone back into her pocket and began to walk. "Hey pretty lady" a voice said as she growled. A young man came walking up alongside her. It was Cameron. She thought he had learned his lesson by now. Clearly not. "Not now Frost Bite" she said as he rolled his eyes.
This guy thought he could get any girl he wanted on campus. He was the so called bad boy. She already had a bad boy herself. Cameron earned the name Frost Bite from screwing up on a lab that involved liquid nitrogen. Suddenly she was grabbed and spun around. The grip he had around on her room. Usually this would hurt but she's felt real pain before and this was nothing like it. He narrowed his eyes at her in a deadly glare.
Artemis didn't react, instead staring right back at him. There was a mix of confusion and anger in his eye's. "What, aren't you scared?" he taunted with a smirk. Raising her other fist she punched him to the ground. He growled holding his nose as blood dripped down. The young woman stood over him holding her fist in her other hand. The last time she had to hit someone that hard was a long time ago.
Her knuckles were split and bleeding. It stung but the pain wasn't anything she couldn't bare. "Trust me darling I've seen scary and you don't have his temper" she said before turning around and walking away. Artemis had seen true evil before, her father. That seemed like so long ago, only a couple years in fact. Even if the man was indeed dead he still haunted her.

The girl sat on the floor hunched over doing her homework. Her mother wasn't home, she wouldn't be for another hour or so. After all her mother did work two jobs. The work was seemingly easy. Her mind was just as brilliant as her mother's. A yawn escaped her lips as she sat up and stretched her arms out. Just as she finished the last question she heard the front door open.
Scrambling to her feet she quickly grabbed the gun that was in the side table drawer. Holding it up she pointed it towards the entrance of the living room. They didn't exactly live in the nicest part of Gotham. But at least they had a home to go to everyday. A red headed woman walked inside holding a potted plant in her hands. The young girls eyes lit up as she quickly put the gun away.
The woman set the potted plant down onto the rickety coffee table. Her green eyes darted over to the girl. "You've grown so much my flower" she said picking up the girl in her arms. Melody didn't hesitate to wrap her arms around her. The last time she saw her felt like forever ago. For awhile its just been her and her mother. The woman's name was Pamela Isley, everyone stuck to calling her Ivy.
Ivy hugged the girl back as she smiled to herself. She had definitely missed the little girl. With her psycho father around no one could get close. "What are you doing there?" she asked looking at the books and paper strewn about on the floor. Melody pulled away from the hug and looked down. "My homework" she said as Ivy nodded putting the girl down. Melody watched as the woman walked around eyeing everything.
The place wasn't nice but it was something. She gathered her homework up and put it inside of her school bag. "When's your mother back?" Ivy asked walking back into the room. It looked like she had finished surveying the place. "At work, she will be home soon" she answered before a smile appeared on her face.
"Until she comes home can you tell me about the pretty flowers you grow?" Melody asked as the woman smiled and nodded as they sat down on the couch.

A few days past and it was finally Friday, Mar'i had never felt happier in her life. The final bell rang alerting everyone that school was indeed over. She tried to stand up so fast that she hit her leg on the desk. Falling back into her seat she groaned looking at her leg. The girls behind her snickered at that. "Mar'i can you stay back a few minutes?" the teacher asked as she nodded sitting down.
The girl waited patiently as everyone else left the class. Soon it was only hed and the teacher. Damian used to sit next to her but the teacher moved the seating arrangement. "You can come up here sweetie" her teacher Mrs. Eloise was a kind old woman, she looked to be in her early sixties. Mar'i grabbed her backpack and walked to the teacher's desk. "That boy Damian, is he hurting you?" the teacher asked as Mar'i gave her a confused look.
Mrs. Eloise looked genuinely concerned for the girl. Damian would be the last person to hurt her. "Some of the girls have been telling me that he picks on you, is that true?" she asked as Mar'i shook her head.
"Damian is my best friend why would he hurt me? He's the one who protects me from everyone else" Mar'i said fiddling with her fingers.
"If you're not telling me something I need to know then I'll have to call your parent's" Mrs. Eloise said.
Mar'i cocked her head to the side out of confusion. She had complained to the teacher many times about everyone else picking on her. But why was she asking her about Damian? "Then call them" Mar'i said before turning around and walking towards the door. There was an anger bubbling inside of her. How could the teacher think that? Damian was difficult sometimes but he would never hurt her.
She walked down the hallway towards the front doors. As she opened the heavy door she saw Damian standing outside. It was cold and raining. This weather was the worst. He held an umbrella as she walked over to stand under it. "You're ten minutes late" he said as she nodded looking down at her shoes. The two walked down the sidewalk quietly. He found it odd that she wasn't speaking.
Finally he stopped and turned to face her. "What's wrong?" he asked reluctantly. She frowned and looked up before hugging him. "The girls have been saying that you've been the one picking on me" she said, face pressed into his shoulder.
"You're strong, yes?" he asked as she pulled away from the hug.
"No" she said in a small voice.
His gaze hardened. "You're strong, yes?" he asked as she sighed.
"Yes" she mumbled.
"Speak up" he said.
"Yes I am strong" she said loudly.
She didn't know why he was asking her this. Mar'i didn't believe she was strong. Bullying was a horrible thing and she didn't know why people insisted upon doing it. "Don't let anyone undermine you, otherwise we can't be friend's" he said as he quickly said the end part. She nodded and put on a small smile. "Now start talking and be happy. Although your presence is annoying at times this silence is becoming uncomfortable" he said as she giggled and began to walk ahead.
The rain pelted down soaking her to the bone. It was hard not to splash in the puddles like she did. "Why don't you come jump with me?" she asked as he stared at her confused. They were by a park, it was just down the street from her home. The umbrella fell out of his hand when she grabbed his hand pulling him towards her. The rain was cold and sent shivers through his body. "Come on have fun" she said taking both his hands in hers.
A bright smile was plastered to her face as she jumped up and down. He watched her jump up and down in front of him. "I don't see how this is enjoyable" he said as she smiled and shook her head.
"You're supposed to jump up and down silly" she said as he rolled his eyes at her.
"We can have hot chocolate and cookies when we get to my house" she bribed as he glared at her.
"You had me at hot chocolate" he said as she let out a triumphant cry.

The rain was relentless and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Wendy ran along the sidewalk holding a newspaper over her head. The water splashed up soaking the ankles of her dress pants. Turning the corner she took refuge in an antique store. The bell that hung over the door rung, the ringing echoing around the store.
Wendy was an artsy and most eccentric person. Why had she not seen this place before? There were old paintings, tea sets, and so much more. She folded up the damp newspaper and tucked it under her armpit before walking around. Wendy walked down one of the aisles, eyeing all of the old furniture and knick nacks.
Some of this stuff would really add a spark to her apartment. A china doll sitting against the wall caught her eye. It had long dark hair and a blue dress. The embroidery on the dresses skirt was astounding. "That, that was my wife's" a withering voice said causing her to jump. She didn't know anyone else was in here. Whirling around she faced an old man. His hair was grey and gelled back, dark brown eyes, and the warmest smile she's ever seen.
Both hands rested on his cane as he leaned his body weight onto it. Wendy gave him a small smile. "Really? Its such a lovely doll. I haven't seen any this well kept before" she said as he nodded walking towards her. Reaching forward with shaking hands he picked up the doll. "Oh Mary loved this thing" he said brushing the dolls hair back.
Wendy smiled, the old man seemed to have such admiration for his wife. Perhaps she was in the back of the store or at home? "Do you have any children?" she asked as he snapped out of his daze to look over at her.
"Yes, two boy's. Well they're young men now and they do me proud even if they don't know it" he said before putting the doll back down.
The young woman was quite intrigued by this. Shouldn't every kid know that their parent's were proud of them? The old man gave her a half smile before walking back to the front of the antique store. Wendy continued to browse for awhile. Mostly trying to stall for time to see if the rain would stop or at least slow down. There were a couple things that she picked up.
Finally she arrived at the front table. Even the cash register looked to be from the nineteen hundreds. On the walls behind the register were pictures. They looked to be family photos, there was one of a blonde woman and two little boy's. "Is that all?" the older man asked as she nodded. Wendy had decided to get an old necklace, it was brass and had a star symbol.
The old man smiled to himself when she handed it to him. All of the stuff in here wasn't usually found in a regular antique shop. "What about that doll?" she asked looking back to see the china doll still sitting on the shelf.
"She's for sale too" he said as Wendy quickly went over to grab the doll.
All of this stuff was quite interesting, she loved things like this. "Are those your kids?" she asked pointing to the pictures on the walls. He looked back and gave a small nod. He told her the total as she quickly dished out the money. "Thank you," she trailed off.
"John" he said as she smiled.
"Why thank you John" she said taking the bag.
The rain didn't look to be as bad now. Once again the bell jingled when she opened the door and stepped outside. Taking the newspaper out she covered her head. It was so quiet in the antique store. Outside all she could hear was the sounds of car horns. Everyone in this city was so impatient. Looking down at the bag she smiled.
Maybe she would give Conner the necklace, it looked pretty cool. Before she walked away she looked at the name of the antique store. "Winchester's huh?" she said amused before turning back and running out into the rain.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She must've been sitting there for four hours now. Curled up on the corner of the couch. A throw blanket encasing her body. There was a textbook in one hand and a pencil in the other. The notebook rested on the arm of the couch as she scribbled down various notes. Today she called in back-up. Dick was at work so she called Kori.
The woman didn't seem to be busy and graciously accepted the offer. There was a knock at the front door. "Its open!" she yelled before hearing it open. After that she shut her mouth and continued to take down notes. Tomorrow she had a test in her social's class. So far she had the highest grades in all of her courses. Zatanna really didn't want to screw this up.
After all Dick was the one paying for her to go to University. He was the one who got her accepted so late into the semester. So she wanted to do him proud. She wanted to make everyone proud. There was shuffling coming from the front foyer. Kori stumbled into the room almost falling over from tripping over her own boots. "Mar'i should be coming home soon" Zatanna said, her eyes glued to the text book.
"Oh that is most joyous!" she exclaimed with a bright smile on her face.
Kori had always been different, so light hearted and happy. Zatanna could see that she was a truly kind soul. Maybe that's where Mar'i got all of her kindness from? The red head towered over her, Kori was even taller than Dick. Only by an inch though. "What are you doing?" Kori asked curiously as she walked over. The weight on the couch shifted as she took a seat next to Zatanna.
The woman peered over her shoulder to look at the textbook. Her green eyes scanned over the page. Most of it was stuff she didn't understand. Clearly Zatanna understood it, the woman had ten pages of notes already. The front door opened as Kori perked up. Standing up with her hands clasped behind her back. "Mom I'm home and I brought Damian over, can he stay for dinner?" Mar'i yelled from the front foyer.
"That should be fine!" Zatanna called back to the young girl.
Mar'i walked into the living room soaking wet. Damian following close behind her. It looked like the two of them had jumped into the ocean. "Hello my little bumgorf" Kori said with a bright smile. The girls eyes widened before she dashed over. However she stopped herself from hugging the red head. "I'm going to put new clothes on and then I'll give you a hug mama" she said as Kori smiled and nodded.
"Come on Damian, I probably have some clothes that fit you" the girl said grabbing his hand and taking her with him.
"As long as its not girly" Damian said as he reluctantly followed her.
Kori turned around to look at Zatanna. The young woman's eyes were still stuck to the textbook. Every once and awhile she would look over at her notebook. "Who is that boy, Damian is it?" Kori asked cocking her head to the side in confusion.
"Yeah that's her little bodyguard" she answered with a smirk.
Zatanna found Damian and Mar'i's friendship quite adorable. However Dick hated it. He didn't like that his little girl hung around him. Apparently the boy was a 'bad influence'. Kori lingered in the living room for a few more minutes before the kid's reappeared. "Mama can we have hot chocolate and cookies?" Mar'i asked looking up at the red head.
By now the girl had two different names for both of her mother's. Mom was for Zatanna and mama was for Kori. Just so the two women wouldn't get confused when she was calling for one of them. "Yes, come on" Kori said as the two followed her to the kitchen. Hours past quite quickly, quicker than she would have liked. It was around the time that Dick should have been getting home. The kids and Kori disappeared into Mar'i's room long ago.
It was silent, good for her to study, when the front door opened. Heavy footsteps reverberated off of the wall's. A figure entered the room and came up behind her. In one swift woman a pair of arm's went around her and a kiss was pressed to her cheek. "Holy shit!" she screamed as the textbook fell from her hands. At this point her heart was racing. Someone chuckled in response to her reaction. "Honey I'm home" Dick said through his laughter.
She blushed and crossed her arms, a pout now displayed on her face. Dick found it absolutely adorable. Hopping over the back of the couch he fell onto it next to her. Picking up the textbook and looking over it. "Give it back" she said reaching for it as he held it over her head. "Ah the wonders of the human mind" he said as she pushed him down onto the couch.
He laid back still holding the book back from her. Zatanna climbed on top of him trying to reach it. "Give it back I need to study" she said in a serious tone.
"I find it hard to hear the seriousness in your voice" he said as she looked down at him.
Sitting up she crossed her arms glaring down at him. Closing the textbook he placed it gently on the coffee table. It looked like she hadn't moved from the couch all day. He sat up, her sitting in his lap as he smirked. "One kiss" he said as she shook her head. As he leaned in she turned her head so his lips landed on her cheek. "Come on Zee one kiss" he whined as she sighed.
Turning her head she gave him a quick kiss. She could feel him smiling against her lips. "Ew gross!" a voice yelled as they quickly pulled away. Zatanna's face was a bright shade of red. Mar'i stood behind the couch with a grossed out look on her face. "Yes sunshine?" Dick asked as the girl squirmed where she stood. It was probably gross to walk in and see them like that. Dick remembered being like that when he saw his parents kiss when he was a kid.
Mar'i stood there before walking around the couch. They both turned their heads to look at the girl. Her hair was in two French braids. The two of them thought she looked absolutely adorable. "Who did your hair? Was it Kori?" Zatanna asked reaching out to touch one of the braids.
"Damian did my hair, he's really good at it. He's doing mama's now" she said as they raised an eyebrow.
"So what did you need sunshine?" Dick asked cutting into the conversation.
His arms were loosely wrapped around Zatanna's waist. His head resting on her chest as he looked over at his daughter. "Can Dami sleep over, please, please, please!" the girl asked clasping her hands together and jumping up and down. Before Dick could protest Zatanna covered his mouth with her hand. The boy had slept over plenty of times before, what was the harm in it? "As long as you two go to bed at a reasonable time" Zatanna said as the girl's eyes lit up.
"Thank you!" she yelled as she gave her parent's a hug before running off.
Dick mumbled something against her hand. She let out a laugh as he rolled his blue as at her. The next thing she knew he had licked her. "You're gross" she said wiping her hand off on his shoulder.
"No I'm just resourceful" he shot back with a smirk.
After that he stole another kiss from her, maybe a few more after that too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sky was gloomy and the rain was relentless. Which was probably why she was so miserable. As of late she had been feeling awfully alone. A sense of isolation washing over her. It was only getting worse. No one really spoke to her but maybe that was for the best. Gotham University had an astounding academic reputation but everything after that was not so good.
There were the catcallers, the bullies, and of course the people who thought they were better than everyone else. It was just like high school again. Except now she had no one, Conner was gone. She wouldn't blame him after all she only caused him trouble. Her uncle and her brother still lived in Happy Harbour. With everything going on she hadn't been able to call in awhile.
Megan dashed through the rain and ran as fast as she could to the dormitory. It was getting late, the sun had already set. No one could really see it anyways, all of the clouds were blocking its wondrous glow. By the time she got to her room she had the shivers. Clothes sticking to her body and hair as slimy as ever. As soon as she got inside she changed her clothing.
Now she had on some shorts and a black long sleeve sweater. When she flipped the light switch the room flooded with a warm orange light. Next she opened the drawer and pulled her hair dryer out. It didn't take long until her hair was back to normal. There was a sudden knock at her door. Megan hadn't been expecting anyone so this was quite a surprise. Cautiously she walked over to the door and opened it ever so carefully.
Peeking out to see the person who bothered her at such hours of the night. Instead she was greeted with a young woman, she looked to be a year younger than her. She had the darkest hair and chocolate brown eyes. "Can I help you?" Megan asked as the girl nodded unfolding a map. It was evident that she was new to the campus. Megan didn't know that they were letting students in this late in the semester.
The young woman turned and showed Megan the map. It was the map of the dormitory. Perhaps she couldn't find her room? "I'm looking for room three-two-five" the girl said as Megan nodded. Her eyes carefully looking over the map. It didn't take long for her to find the room on there. "It should be the next floor at the end of the hall, you shouldn't miss it" Megan said pointing to the location on the map.
"I'm Peggy by the way and you are," Peggy trailed off.
"Megan Morse, pleaded to meet you" she said shaking the young woman's hand.
"Well Megan I hope to be seeing you around then, until then goodnight. Oh and I like your sweater" Peggy said with a smile before waving goodbye and walking back down the hallway.
For once Megan couldn't help but smile.
A/N: Should I do long chapter's like this so every single person is up to date in one chapter?
