Chapter 31
They continued to watch the Christmas themed movie. Cuddled up underneath the covers on the couch. Another sip was taken from the hot cocoa. She was sitting comfortably, head rested against his shoulder. Suddenly there was a knock at the door that startled both of them. "I'll get it" she said placing her mug on the side table and standing up. Her footsteps were light against the ground as she opened the front door. Immediately a burst of cold wind hit her sending chills down her spine.
A man stood there, dark skin, short dark hair greying at the sides, and dark brown eyes. He wore a tuxedo along with a long black coat. For a moment she stood there staring at the man. A hand rested on her shoulder slightly tugging her back. "Father" Kaldur answered from behind her. It felt as if her heart had dropped to her stomach. A creeping feeling crawling up her back. The man looked normal; he even looked as if he were filthy rich. But something made her feel off set about him.
"Its been awhile Kaldur'ahm" the man said, his voice deep and stern as he spoke.
"Yes it has" Kaldur answered just as stern.
"Well can I come in?" the man asked as Kaldur reluctantly nodded.
He stepped inside taking the coat off and hanging it on the hangar. The atmosphere immediately changed throughout the entire house. The door was closed as she stood there feeling numb. "And what might your name be? I heard my son had a wife but he never mentioned a name" the man said taking her hand. She gulped staring into his cold brown eyes. "Roquette" she said swallowing the lump in her throat.
"What may I call you?" she asked curiously.
"You my dear can call me David" he said before kissing her hand.
They went into the living room and took a seat on the sofa. By now both of their mugs were cold. David looked around glancing at the picture frame on the side table. "Roquette this is my father, I have been meaning for the two of you to formally meet" Kaldur said in a calm tone. Roquette barely managed to nod. All she could feel at the moment was discomfort. "My son I came to talk business. Care for a private meeting?" David asked. Roquette glanced over at Kaldur. His face had a stoic expression on it.
"Let me just escort Roquette upstairs" he said as she growled.
The two of them walked upstairs to their room. Only then when the door was closed was when she exploded. "Escort me upstairs? Kaldur what the hell is wrong with you!" she yelled slapping him across the face. After all she was really feisty. He groaned rubbing the side of his face in pain. "I will explain everything later but for now trust me" he said, all of his emotion lying on the word 'trust'. For once she took a deep breath.
All she needed to do was calm down and trust him. After all their relationship was built upon trust since day one. "Okay I trust you" she said as he nodded with a small smile on his face. Leaning down and quickly kissing her forehead. Roquette took a seat on their bed as she watched him leave the room. Closing the door behind him. Something began to stir in her stomach making her discomfort become more apparent. Something was up and she wasn't going to like it when she found out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone had left the next morning and Wally and Artemis had already packed. Unfortunately as forgetful as Wally was he left his cellphone at home. Which was kind of stressful because he didn't know what was going on. He also didn't get to wish his best friend a Merry Christmas. Instead of hearing to Happy Harbor they went to Central City. This year Christmas was being held at his Aunt and Uncle's house.
The plane landed awhile ago and for the past hour they've been sitting in a taxi. Artemis had never seen this much snow in her entire life. Her eyes were glued to the scenery outside. Everything was covered in a blanket of fluffy white snow. "Have you gotten a call from anyone of your family?" she asked curiously. She peeled her eyes away from the scenery to turn and face the red head. "Not in awhile but if they've called recently I wouldn't know" he said with a sheepish smile.
Artemis rolled her eyes at his forgetfulness. Sometimes it was rather quite amusing. It was another ten minutes until they finally arrived at Iris and Barry's house. He paid the taxi driver before grabbing their bags. The cold was bitter as the wind whipped her long blonde hair around. Before he could knock on the door it swung open. His Aunt Iris stood there with a small smile on her face. "Come in, come in" she said ushering the two inside.
When they walked in the house was oddly quiet. It was like no one was there. "Aunt Iris this is my girlfriend Artemis" he said as she smiled.
"Wally I already knew that silly" she said as he raised an eyebrow.
The two of them hung their coats on the rack before being lead into the living room. His mother was staring out the window, she looked like she had seen a ghost. "Hey Mom" he said trying to keep his voice levelled. She slowly turned to face him before engulfing him in a hug. It was actually quite unexpected but he hugged her back. "Mom what's wrong?" he asked as she shook her head.
"Its Bart. Since you left things have been rough" she said as he gulped.
"Where is he?" he asked in a worried tone.
Sure Bart may have gotten on his nerves when he lived in Happy Harbor but he was still family. The closest thing he had to a little brother. "Upstairs-" Artemis cut her off.
"I'm going to check on him" Artemis said abruptly.
His mother went to say something but Wally just shook his head. Bart actually took a liking to Artemis. He trusted her more than Wally at times. The blonde headed upstairs feeling her stomach turn. A chill ran up her spine as she approached the door. It was open just a crack as the light streaked out into the hallway. Gently she pushed the door open and walked in. The teen was lying on the bed facing away from her. "Bart?" her voice echoed around the room.
It was silent as he didnt move. Sighing she walked over approaching the bed slowly. The closer she got the more she could see of him. "Bart" she said as he sniffled trying to hide away from her. Reaching out she gently grabbed his shoulder turning him to face her. Reluctantly he sat up as her face fell into a look of despair. A dark bruise formed around his right eyes and both of his arms had bandages on them. "What happened?" she asked taking a seat on the bed next to him.
At first he just stared at her blankly before tears formed in his eyes. Looking down as they fell and hit his lap. Gently she pulled him into a hug, rubbing his back in a comforting manner. "There's this girl at school; Sophia Park. She's Linda Park's younger sister. She-she sends her boyfriend out always to beat me up when Jaime and Cassie aren't around. It hurts and they call me such mean names" he cried out as she closed her eyes nodding.
"It got so bad so then I started hurting myself. I don't want them hurting me anymore" he cried out as she hugged him tighter.
That's why the bandages were wrapped around his arms. It was quiet as she just let him cry it out. Sometimes it was better to let out your feelings then to keep them buried inside of you. "What about Jaime? Didn't he know?" she asked as he shook his head.
"N-No. I didn't want him to worry about me because he's always having to protect me. But then he found the scars and then told Rudy and Mary" he sobbed out.
Artemis sat there comforting him for the next hour. If anything she wanted to make sure that he felt better. The bruise around his eye looked bad. It was dark and purple around the edges. "Why aren't you downstairs?" she asked watching him wipe his tears away. "I don't want anyone staring at me and Wally will be so disa-" before he could finish his sentence she stopped him.
"If anything Wally would be happy that you're okay" she said with her hands on his shoulders.
She glanced at the bruise around his eye before getting an idea. Sometimes she hated all of these makeup tips that Megan, Roquette, and Zatanna gave her back in High School. But right now they were going to come in handy. "Give me five minutes" she said before standing up and scurrying out of the room. Of course her cover up wouldn't work because she was a different skin tone but Iris was sure to have some. Hurrying down the stairs she quickly walked into the kitchen.
Everyone was milling around in there including Wally. He was trying to steal a Christmas cookie. "Hey Iris?" she asked walking over. The woman turned around to face her. A smile plastered to her face as she did so. "Yes?" she asked as Artemis pulled her out of the kitchen.
"Can I borrow some cover up?" Artemis asked curiously.
For a moment Iris gave her a puzzled look. Artemis' eyes darted over to the staircase and back to her. She got the idea and nodded. "Yeah come with me" she said as the two walked upstairs. The two walked into the master bedroom and into the shared washroom. Iris rummaged around in her makeup bag before finding what Artemis had requested to borrow. "Thanks Iris. Bart and I will be down soon" she said as the red head nodded and left.
Artemis made her way back to the room Bart was in. He was still sitting in the same spot she left him. "Okay now sit still" she said as he looked up at her. She fixed up his face, it looked as if nothing ever happened now. "Stand up and look in the mirror" she said handing him her compact mirror. Artemis smiled to see the small smile appear against his lips. He reached up to touch around the area where the bruise would be.
"Thank you" he said as she smiled and ruffled his auburn hair.
Quickly she did a few more minor fixes for him. Flattening down his shirt and fixing his hair. "Now you look fantastic" she said as he gave her a sheepish smile. Artemis made sure he came downstairs. After all spending Christmas alone was never happy. Especially if he was planning on locking himself up in that room all day. "We're here everyone" she announced as they walked into the living room. Bart hid behind her nervously peeking out to look at everyone.
Wally walked over with a smile on his face. Engulfing the two of them in a tight hug. "Wally" Artemis whined as he smirked kissing her forehead. Bart hugged back with a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Can we have cookies now?" he asked as Iris sighed. Even Barry was eagerly nodding along with the idea. "Fine" Iris said with a defeated sigh. Barry and Wally raced off with Bart being dragged along with them. The women all laughed. This was quite comical.
The three of them sat on the couch. Apparently Wally's father; Rudolph was out getting something from whatever store was open. "I haven't seen him smile like that in months. Artemis whatever you did I'm really grateful for it" Mary said hugging the blonde. Artemis accepted the hug, if anything she didn't want Bart to be upset. Especially in the state he was currently in. "Don't worry the next time I see that bitch Linda I'll have a talk with her about her sister" she grit through her teeth.
If anything Linda was going to get what was coming to her, and her little sister too.
A/N: Sorry for the lack of updates! I hadn't been really inspired to write anything but I have a few ideas now. I would rather give all of you something that I enjoyed writing to read then something that's boring. What I feel is shown through my writing and being forced to write something would show. Anyways I'm back and I hope you enjoyed this chapter!!!!!!
