Chapter 26

That mysterious note still boggled her mind even after class. She had a lot of homework to do. She would also have to text Artemis soon about the project they had to do. That entire newspaper wasn't going to write itself. Currently she was on her way to the hospital. Mar'i was getting discharged later tonight. For the past couple of days she had been doing her homework there. She checked in and got her visitor's pass before going up the elevator.

When the doors open she stepped out into the hallway. It was white from ths floor to the ceilings. She never understood why they were white and probably would never know. Walking into the room a small smile came to her face. Mar'i and Damian were curled up next to each other fast asleep. If Dick saw this he would've been fuming. Stephanie noticed her as she waved hello. "Hey Zee" she whispered as Zatanna took her seat next to the blond. The room was quite silent.

"Hey Stephanie. How was she today?" Zatanna asked in a low whisper.

"Still not talking and even the little brat tried to cheer her up" Stephanie said as she sighed.

"Not even Damian could get her to talk?" she asked as Stephanie frowned and nodded.

Zatanna was really beginning to worry for her. Then again her and Dick were well experienced with traumas such as the Mar'i had endured. Dick watched his parents fall to their deaths in front of him and she found her father dead. It wasn't long until the girls eyes fluttered open. "Hey Mar'i" Zatanna said in a soothing voice. Her hand resting on the girls as she squeezed it comfortingly. "I'm just going to run to the washroom quickly" Stephanie said standing up and leaving. Damian's eyes immediately opened as he sat up. Short dark hair sticking up every which way.

A yawn escaped his lips as he stretched his arms out. "Shouldn't you be getting home Damian?" Zatanna asked as he rolled his eyes.

"Tt. Father could care less about my whereabouts" he spat as Mar'i frowned.

This kid was quite bitter and had zero social skills. Then again Zatanna nor Dick knew a lot about him. She noticed a look in Mar'i's eyes. Something inside of her made a smile crack onto her lips. They had such an adorable kid romance and it was so cute. "Can-can you tell us a story?" Mar'i's voice was small as she spoke. Gaze returned to her lap as she picked at the tape on her wrist that held the IV down. At first this took Zatanna by surprise.

"Okay then um-oh I got one! Once upon a time there was a Princess who went to school. Now this Princess was quite intelligent as she got to skip a grade. One day a boy with dark hair and the bluest of blue eyes approached her. At first she was quite nervous for he was a Prince from another kingdom" she said as Mar'i's eyes lit up.

"They would talk from time to time for they only had that one class together. About a week later the Prince approached her again. He had invited her to eat lunch with her which she gladly accepted the offer. The Princess made plenty of new friends with people she thought she would never speak to. Slowly their attraction grew for each other and he finally asked her to attend a film with him-" Zatanna then got cut off.

"This story makes no sense. What is so special about a Prince and a Princess?" Damian asked with his arms crossed.

Mar'i frowned before punching him in the shoulder and glaring hard at him. Zatanna continued the story until it got to a rocky part. There was a scared look on both Damian and Mar'i's faces.

"The Princess ran inside of the palace which was home to the Prince. Tears were in her eyes as she ran over to him. For the Prince had been injured while trying to protect his dear friends. This scared the Princess as she cried and cried. Occasionally slapping him in the face as well-" it was Mar'i's turn to cut her off.

"I don't like this story anymore Mommy" she said leaning against Damian.

"Soon the doctors came to pick up the Prince. As the Princess waited she felt quite devastated. It wasn't until she was beckoned by one of the royal doctors. Alas, her Prince was fine and she sealed their love with true loves kiss" Zatanna said feeling her soul shatter a little.

Was it bad to tell a story about her and Dick when they were dating? That's when the door opened and Dick walked in still in his uniform. "Who's ready to go home?" he asked with a warm smile. She would have to talk to him later about her mysterious note.

The snow silently fell as it crunched underneath his black combat boots. Conner wasn't one for change so he almost always wore the same outfit. He had heard about what had happened to Megan. Even though they weren't together anymore doesn't mean he out right hated her. Usually if he was walking around the farm it would be pitch black. But in Gotham it was always bright. That was part of why this City irritated him. Luckily he was taking a train back to Happy Harbor for the Holiday's.

At first he struggled with Clark's disownment of him. But eventually he learned to accept Conner. The two actually got along really well now. Stopping he stared up at the Hotel. The bright lights flashing in his sky blue eyes. Walking inside the warm heat hit his exposed skin. The burning feeling attacking his fingerstips, nose, and ears. If it wasn't for Garfield texting him randomly he would've never known she was here. It was quite weird that the kid still had his number.

The front desk clerk looked up breifly as Conner walked passed him. Stepping into the elevator he stood next to a young lady and her three children. One of the little boy's was staring up at him in awe. At first Conner was quite confused. "Are you Superman?" the little boy asked batting his dark eyes up at him. Looking down Conner noticed that he was wearing his t-shirt that had the Superman symbol on it. He wasn't into reading comics but everyone knew who Superman was.

"I'm so sorry about him" the boy's mother apologized.

"No, its okay" Conner said winking at the boy.

Immediately all of her kids' eyes lit up. The doors opened as Conner stepped out into the hallway. A small smile playing against his lips. He knocked against the door before waiting. There were some voices as the door opened. He raised an eyebrow to see Raven standing there. Wasn't she supposed to be wherever she moved to? That was so long ago when she moved away. He remembered all of the girls being down in the dumps.

"What?" she asked duly, a book in her hand as she narrowed her eyes at him.

"I'm here to check on Megan. I uh heard what happened and just wanted to see if she was okay" he said scratching the back of his neck.

Suddenly Garfield stuck his head in between Raven and the door. A cheeky smile on his face. "He can come in Rae" he said winking at her as she flicked him in the forehead. Conner walked inside of the large room. He heard a surprised yet tired voice say his name. Looking over to the couch he saw Megan lying there. She looked like she had just been to hell and back. Her skin was deathly pale, dark bags under her eyes, she was quite thin, and her cheery smile was gone. It was quite a sore sight to see.

"Hey Megan. I came to check on you" he said sitting on the edge of the couch.

"Oh" was all she managed to say.

"Just because we're not together doesn't mean I don't still care for you" he said in a soft voice.

"Well then Conner you can join our poem telling. Raven was reading some out to us, you can stay if you want but if you have somewhere to go that's fine" she said fiddling with her fingers.

A small smile appearing on his face as he nodded.

The day was coming to a close as she followed the doctor around. Her hand was cramping after all of the notes she had been taking. The Hospital was quite huge. Brushing a strand of hair behind her ear she sighed. She was in a small group along with some other felow classmates. The pure white lab coat swishing behind her as she walked. When they got here everyone was given one. The pockets were quite handy to hold her phone, writing utensils, etc.

They walked down a long windowed corridor. Glancing to the side she saw a beautiful orange and pink streaked sky. It was quite a breathtaking landscape with the City and everything in front. "This concludes the tour. Your teacher expects a report on what you've learned while being here on his desk in two days" the doctor said before walking off. Everyone groaned out of irritation. She quickly put her notebook in her bag and made her way through the hospital.

While walking she saw two familiar ebony's. Smiling she walked over to them. "I thought I saw someone familiar, how's it going?" she asked talking to Dick and Zatanna along with their entourage. Mar'i was being carried in Dick's arms as she buried her face in the crook of his neck. Roquette's face fell as she saw all of the bandages and stitching. "Is she okay?" she asked in a concerned voice.

"Physically yes, mentally no" Dick said glumly.

They all chatted about Mar'i and what had happened. It was still quite shcoking to hear what happened to the poor child. In the end they had to leave which left her alone again. The streets were lit up as she walked towards the train station. Phone buzzing as she pulled it out looking down. Kaldur had just responded to her text from earlier. That's when she accidentally bumped into someone. He was scruffy looking, cigarette in between his lips, and his blond hair falling in front of his eyes. "I am so sorry" she quickly said as he grunted in response.

Something about him made her feel uneasy. She had seen him somewhere before but she couldn't put her finger on it. He glared holes into her head as she gulped. "What's your name?" he asked as she smirked.

"Tell me yours first" she said.

"Constantine" he grit through his teeth.

That name seemed awfully familiar to her and she didn't know why. Roquette had met a lot of people when her and Kal moved to Gotham. "Mine is Raquel" she said using her old name. She never liked that name because of her past and because of it she changed it. In case he was some creepy stalker she would say that. Nothing came up about her under that name since it was legally changed to Roquette.

"Well then Raquel watch where you're going" he growled before walking off.

The trench coat he was wearing swishing behind him. A shiver ran down her spine as she quickly made her way to the train station. She waited on the platform for ten minutes as the train pulled up. Its wheels screeching on the tracks as it stopped. Since it was so late it was close to empty. For the times being she sat in her seat reading a book. Her mind was too occupied to obtain any information from it however. That man, his name was so familiar to her. Why couldn't she figure out why?

Closing her back she thought back really hard. Where had she heard that name before? That's when it hit her like a brick to the face. Back at her wedding when Zatanna attended she said something about a new boyfriend. His name was-was John Constantine! She knew she had heard his name before! The ride wasn't long as the train stopped again at the station. But what was he doing lurking around the hospital? All of those thoughts were pushed aside when she saw Kaldur.

His frosty breaths being pulled away with the wind. She stepped out and scurried over giving him a kiss. A smirk playing against her lips. She got to pick which movie they were to see at the cinema. "Hello my love" he said as they pulled away from the kiss. A light blush apparent on his cheeks. He intertwined their fingers as they left the train station. The car was still warm when they got in. She knew that he must have just got here. The drive to the cinema was quite interesting. Roquette had continued to yell at the horrible drivers and she wasn't even the one driving.

When they arrived he sighed waiting for her to choose a movie. It wasn't like there was a lot to choose from anyways. In the end she decided on an adventure movie. They sat cuddled together in the theater. A couple other people in there as well. She munched on the popcorn as the film started. They both found it quite interesting as she kept stealing kisses from him throughout the entire movie. People filed out when the credits began to roll. The lights slowly coming on as they stood up.

She stretched her arms out, a yawn escaping her lips. At the moment she felt like cuddling up in bed with him. The television on as he held her tightly. Yeah that sounded like a great idea. "Come on Kal we've got a warm bed that's calling our name" she said taking his hand and leading him out of the theater. She still had that report to do but she would do it tomorrow.
